        Meteorological driven factors of population growth in brown planthopper, Nilaparvata lugens Stål (Hemiptera: Delphacidae), in rice paddies

        Growth of brown planthopper (BPH) (Nilaparvata lugens Stål) in rice paddies is mainly driven by meteorological factors under similar management practices. By analyzing field investigation and meteorological data collected from 2008 to 2013 in Nanchang, China, we show that BPH population densities and monthly growth rates (BGR) changed greatly from May to October, and these changes were closely associated with meteorological factors. Stepwise regression and path analysis indicated average speed of winds (AW) in June and lowest temperature (LT) in July were the first factors entering analysis, which interpreted 46.20% and 31.90% of their influences on BGR. While highest temperature (HT) in August and average temperature (AT) in September were the most important factors affecting BGR, but their direct path coefficients were all smaller than their corresponding indirect path coefficients. In October, relative humidity (RH), AW and number of raining days (RD) had significant effects on BGR. According to the sum of each meteorological factor entering stepwise regression analysis sequences, we found AW had the utmost effect on BPH growth, followed by AT and RH, but LT and RD least. The work demonstrate dynamic meteorological factors driving BPH growth and outbreak in rice paddies, which would facilitate the development of durable approaches for forecasting and controlling this destructive rice pest.

        Synergistic Effect of Bone Marrow-Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells and Platelet-Rich Plasma in Streptozotocin-Induced Diabetic Rats

        Background: Diabetic wounds are a major clinical challenge, because minor skin wounds can lead to chronic, unhealed ulcers and ultimately result in infection, gangrene, or even amputation. Studies on bone marrow derived mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) and a series of growth factors have revealed their many benefits for wound healing and regeneration. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) may improve the environment for BMSC development and differentiation. However, whether combined use of BMSCs and PRP may be more effective for accelerating diabetic ulcer healing remains unclear. Objective: We investigated the efficacy of BMSCs and PRP for the repair of refractory wound healing in a diabetic rat model. Methods: Forty-eight rats with diabetes mellitus induced by streptozotocin were divided into four groups: treatment with BMSCs plus PRP, BMSCs alone, PRP alone, phosphate buffered saline. The rate of wound closure was quantified. A histopathological study was conducted regarding wound depth and the skin edge at 7, 14, and 28 days after surgery. Results: Wound healing rates were significantly higher in the BMSC plus PRP group than in the other groups. The immunohistochemistry results showed that the expression of platelet/endothelial cell adhesion molecule 1, proliferating cell nuclear antigen, and transforming growth factor-β1 increased significantly in the BMSC plus PRP group compared to the other treatment groups. On day 7, CD68 expression increased significantly in the wounds of the BMSC plus PRP group, but decreased markedly at day 14 compared to the controls.         Patterns of Lymph Node Recurrence after Radical Surgery Impacting on Survival of Patients with pT1-3N0M0 Thoracic Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma

        The aim of this study was to investigate how patterns of lymph nodes recurrence after radical surgery impact on survival of patients with pT1-3N0M0 thoracic esophageal squamous cell carcinoma. One hundred eighty consecutive patients with thoracic esophageal squamous cell carcinoma underwent radical surgery, and the tumors were staged as pT1-3N0M0 by postoperative pathology. Lymph nodes recurrence was detected with computed tomography 3-120 months after the treatment. The patterns of lymph nodes recurrence including stations, fields and locations of recurrent lymph nodes, and impacts on patterns of survival were statistically analyzed. There was a decreasing trend of overall survival with increasing stations or fields of postoperative lymph nodes involved (all P<0.05). Univariate analysis showed that stations or fields of lymph nodes recurrence, and abdominal or cervical lymph nodes involved were prognostic factors for survival(all P<0.05). Cox analyses revealed that the field was an independent factor (P<0.05, odds ratio=2.73). Lymph nodes involved occurred predominantly in cervix and upper mediastinum (P<0.05). In conclusion, patterns of lymph node recurrence especially the fields of lymph nodes involved are significant prognostic factors for survival of patients with pT1-3N0M0 thoracic esophageal squamous cell carcinoma.

        Electrical heating behavior of flexible thermoplastic polyurethane/ Super-P nanoparticle composite films for advanced wearable heaters

        A rationally designedflexible electrothermalfilm is composed of Super-P (SP, nanoparticle),thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) and silica. The electric heating behavior of electrothermalfilmscan be facilely adjusted by SP contents and applied voltages. TPU/SP composite with 25 wt.% SP presentsrobust structural stability, fast response feature and superior electrothermal reproducibility. Theconductive network formed by SP nanoparticles not only could quickly convert the electric energy toheat, but also is stable under stepwise periodic and long-term electric heating–cooling conditions. Finally, a smart wrist band integrated electric heater and temperature indicator is verified the highpotential in multifunctional wearable device applications.

        The Dynamic Mechanical Properties for Recycled Aggregate Concrete under Tensile-Compressive States

        The experiments under biaxial tensile-compressive (T-C) complex stress were carried out for two kinds of substitution percentages of recycled coarse aggregate (RCA) on biaxial proportional loading (α = σ1:σ3 =1:0, 0: -1, 0.05: -1, 0.1: -1, 0.25: -1, 0.5: -1, 1: -1 and-1: -1) and four loading deformation rates of 10−5/s, 10−4/s , 10−3/s, and 10−2/s. The research was completed in the static-dynamic true triaxial machine. The experimental phenomena indicate the tensile failure appears in these specimens of recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) under biaxial T-C stress states. The dynamic mechanical behavior for RAC under biaxial T-C loadings was affected by the strain rates, stress ratios and its substitution percentages of RCA. Accompanied by the increase of strain rates, its strength of RAC is improved. As the tensile stress increases, its compressive strength decreases. The T-C strengths for RAC under biaxial T-C states are less than its corresponding uniaxial T-C strengths at a certain identical strain rates, respectively. Considering the effect of loading rates, a new tensile-compressive failure criterion is established under complex stress states.

        Species Classification and Quality Assessment of Chaihu (Radix Bupleuri) Based on High-Performance Liquid Chromatographic Fingerprint and Combined Chemometrics Methods

        A high-performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) method was established to analyze 36 Chaihu (Radix Bupleuri) samples collected from three species (Bupleurum chinense DC., B. scorzonerifolium Willd. and B. smithii Wolff.). Addition of trifluoroacetic acid into the mobile phase resulted in fingerprint chromatograms with stable baselines. There were thirty-two characteristic peaks in the standard fingerprint of B. chinense DC. Different recognition pattern methods, including similarity analysis (SA), hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA), principal component analysis (PCA) and partial least squares-discrimination analysis (PLS-DA) were utilized to analyze the 36 samples based on the contents of chemical constituents. Consistent results from SA, HCA and PCA analysis illustrated the rationalisation for why B. smithii Wolff. was not quoted in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia and classified samples were in agreement with their species. PLS-DA loading plots showed the chemical markers which had the most influences on the separation among different species. However, SA, HCA and PCA could not differentiate between wild and cultivated B. chinense DC. as well as between samples from different provinces. HPLC fingerprint in combination with chemometric techniques provided a very flexible and reliable method for homogeneity evaluation and quality assessment of traditional Chinese medicine.

        Bacterial and Fungal Diversity in the Starter Production Process of Fen Liquor, a Traditional Chinese Liquor

        Fermented foods and beverages are important parts of human diet. Fen liquor, a Chinese liquor is a fermented beverage that uses a traditional fermentation process. Starters are the main microbial source and also provide nutrients for microorganisms during fermentation. In this study, starters of Fen liquor were produced through a complex traditional fermentation process. To investigate the community structure and the composition of microorganisms in the starter production process, bacterial 16S rRNA and fungal internal transcribed spacer (ITS) regions were sequenced using clone libraries and pyrosequencing, respectively. There was much higher diversity among the bacteria than among the fungi in the starter production process. Bacteria on the surface of the starters belonged mostly to the Lactobacillaceae family,while members of the Bacillacae family were dominant in the interior of the samples that lacked access to air and water. In the fungi population, diversity was high only in the raw material. In all other samples, nearly all of the fungal sequences were from Pichia kudriavzevii, a member of the Saccharomycetaceae family. Nearly all samples showed similar fungal community structures, indicating that there was little change in the fungal community. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report to reveal the whole process of the starter production of Chinese traditional liquor. The findings obtained in this study provide new insights into understanding the composition of the microbial community during the traditional Chinese liquor starter production process and information about the production process control and monitoring.

        페르소나 기반 시나리오를 이용한 중국 전통 장례 시나리오 개발 - 중국 칭하이성 전통 장례를 중심으로 -

        연구배경 본 연구는 오늘날 중국 칭하이(靑海)성 전통장례 현황을 중심으로, 빠르게 발전하는 사회 속에서 전통 장례식과 현대인의 수요 간에 발생하는 갈등을 해결하는 방법을 모색하며, 나아가 현대인의 수요를 충족시키는 전통 장례의 미래 서비스 방향을 제시하고자 한다. 연구방법 연구의 목적을 달성하기 위해 칭하이성 전통장례에 관한 현장 조사와 관계자 인터뷰를 통해 현존하는 전통 장례서비스의 현황을 파악하였다. 서로 입장이 다른 이해관계자 중 핵심 2명의 페르소나를 설정하였고 정황시나리오 기반 두 가지 유형의 고객여정맵을 작성하여 전통적인 장례식에서 유무형 서비스의 문제점을 발견하였다. 연구결과 발견된 문제점들에 대해, 인터넷 보급률이 높고 실시간 방송이 급속히 발전하고 있는 오늘날의 추세에 따라 인터넷 장례 방송이라는 아이디어를 제시하였다. 온라인 장례식이라는 아이디어에 기반하여 주요 경로 시나리오를 제작하였다. 마지막으로 서비스청사진을 제작하여 실제 칭하이성 전통 장례 이해관계자들을 대상으로 인터뷰를 통하여 검증하였다. 결론 본 연구에서 제시된 장례식 서비스는 오늘날 중국의 전통 장례식의 상황을 개선할 것으로 기대된다. 장례의 상주와 참가자, 지방정부와 장의 산업 종사자 등 장례식 관련 이해관계자들 간의 원활한 소통뿐만 아니라 전통문화의 보존과 환경보호, 경제적인 측면 등 미래사회를 위한 지속가능성 등에 주안점을 둔 순환 경제 모형으로 자리 잡을 수 있을 것으로 기대된다. Background Based on the current state of traditional funerals in Qinghai Province, China today, this study sought ways to resolve the conflict between traditional funerals and the demands of modern people in a rapidly developing society, and further presented the direction of future services of traditional funerals that meet the needs of modern people. Methods In order to achieve the purpose of the research, the status of existing traditional funeral services was grasped through on-site investigation on traditional funeral in Qinghai Province and interviews with officials. Two key types of customer itinerary maps were set up among stakeholders of different positions and two types of customer itinerary maps based on context scenarios were created to identify problems with tangible and intangible services at traditional funerals. Result On the problems found, the idea of Internet funeral broadcasting was presented in consideration of today's trend of high Internet penetration and rapid development of real-time broadcasting. Based on the idea of an online funeral, a major path scenario was created. Finally, a service blueprint was produced and verified through interviews with actual Qinghai traditional funeral stakeholders. Conclusion Funeral services presented in this study are expected to improve the situation of traditional Chinese funerals today. It is expected that it will be able to become a circular economic model that focuses on the sustainability of future society, such as preservation of traditional culture, environmental protection, and economic aspects, as well as smooth communication between funeral owners, participants, local governments and funeral industry workers.
