Field investigation of the reinforcement and support mechanism for a tunnel in layered soft rock mass

Yulong Chen,Zhe Li,Tianyu Cui 대한토목학회 2023 KSCE Journal of Civil Engineering Vol.27 No.10

A crucial deformation phenomenon is observed in shale and silty clay sections in a tunnel. To analyse the reinforcement and support mechanism and behaviour of the tunnel support structure in layered soft rocks, field tests for the axial force of the cartridge rock bolt, surrounding rock pressure, stress of a steel I-beam and lattice girder were performed. Based on the field deformation analysis data, the reinforcement behaviours of the cartridge rock bolt and steel floral pipe, and support behaviours of lattice girder and steel I-beam in the layered rock mass and silty clay were analysed.

Experimental study of Kaiser effect under cyclic compression and tension tests

        Chen, Yulong,Irfan, Muhammad Techno-Press 2018 Geomechanics & engineering Vol.14 No.2

Reliable estimation of compressive as well as tensile in-situ stresses is critical in the design and analysis of underground structures and openings in rocks. Kaiser effect technique, which uses acoustic emission from rock specimens under cyclic load, is well established for the estimation of in-situ compressive stresses. This paper investigates the Kaiser effect on marble specimens under cyclic uniaxial compressive as well as cyclic uniaxial tensile conditions. The tensile behavior was studied by means of Brazilian tests. Each specimen was tested by applying the load in four loading cycles having magnitudes of 40%, 60%, 80% and 100% of the peak stress. The experimental results confirm the presence of Kaiser effect in marble specimens under both compressive and tensile loading conditions. Kaiser effect was found to be more dominant in the first two loading cycles and started disappearing as the applied stress approached the peak stress, where felicity effect became dominant instead. This behavior was observed to be consistent under both compressive and tensile loading conditions and can be applied for the estimation of in-situ rock stresses as a function of peak rock stress. At a micromechanical level, Kaiser effect is evident when the pre-existing stress is smaller than the crack damage stress and ambiguous when pre-existing stress exceeds the crack damage stress. Upon reaching the crack damage stress, the cracks begin to propagate and coalesce in an unstable manner. Hence acoustic emission observations through Kaiser effect analysis can help to estimate the crack damage stresses reliably thereby improving the efficiency of design parameters.

Dehydration reaction of bio-ethanol to ethylene over modified SAPO catalysts

        Yu Chen,Ling Tao,Bin Dai,Mingde Yang,Zhen Chen,Xiaoyan Zhu,Yulong Wu 한국공업화학회 2010 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.16 No.5

Mnmodified SAPO-11 (Mn-SAPO-11), Zn-SAPO-11, Mn-SAPO-34 and Zn-SAPO-34 were first synthesized with hydrothermal method in the laboratory. Dehydration of ethanol to ethylene over SAPO-11, SAPO-34and four materials above as catalysts was carried out and Mn-SAPO-34 exhibited the best conversion and selectivity (99.35% and 98.44%, respectively) at 340 8C. The introduction of Mn2+ or Zn2+ into the SAPO channel generated in Mn-SAPO or Zn-SAPO samples was proved by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and nitrogen adsorption. NH3-TPD study revealed that modification of Mn2+or Zn2+ in the SAPO framework led to increase the weak acid strength and give rise to weak acid sites. The effects of operation parameters, such as loading amount, modification methods, reaction time, reaction temperature, mass space velocity and concentration of ethanol have also been investigated experimentally. 2010 The Korean Society of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry. Catabolite Control Protein A of Streptococcus suis Type 2 Contributes to Sugar Metabolism and Virulence

        Yulong Tang,Wei Wu,Xiaoyan Zhang,Zhongyan Lu,Jianshun Chen,Weihuan Fang 한국미생물학회 2012 The journal of microbiology Vol.50 No.6

Catabolite control protein A (CcpA) is the major transcriptional regulator in carbon catabolite repression in several Gram-positive bacteria. We attempted to characterize the role of a CcpA homologue of Streptococcus suis type 2 in sugar metabolism and virulence. Addition of glucose or sucrose to the defined medium significantly reduced the activity of raffinose-inducible α-galactosidase, cellobiose-inducible β-glucosidase, and maltose-inducible α-glucosidase of the wildtype strain by about 9, 4, and 2-3 fold, respectively. Deletion of ccpA substantially derepressed the effects of repressing sugars on α-galactosidase or β-glucosidase activity. The ccpA deletion mutant showed reduced expression of virulence genes sly and eno (P<0.05), decreased adhesion to and invasion into endothelial cells (P<0.05), and attenuated virulence to mice with significant reduction of death rate and bacterial burden in organs, as compared to the wild-type strain. Both the in vitro and in vivo defect phenotypes were reversible by ccpA complementation. Thus, this study shows that CcpA of S. suis type 2 plays an important role in carbon catabolite repression and virulence.

Reliability-based Event Driven Backstepping Positioning Control for a Turret-moored FPSO Vessel with Unknown Slow Time-varying Disturbances

        Yulong Tuo,ShashaWang,Chen Guo,Haomiao Yu,Zhipeng Shen 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2022 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.20 No.2

In this paper, an event driven backstepping positioning controller based on the structural reliability is developed for a turret-moored floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel with unknown slow timevarying disturbances. The mathematical model of the FPSO vessel is given at first. Secondly, to make full use of the positioning capability of mooring system while ensuring the safety of mooring lines, a continuous backstepping positioning controller is designed based on the structural reliability of the mooring system; in the meanwhile, a disturbance observer is designed to handle the unknown disturbances. Then, the proposed event driven positioning controller is achieved based on the designed continuous controller by designing suitable event driven conditions, which can determine the updated time instants of the event driven positioning controller. The proposed positioning controller can not only guarantee the uniform ultimate boundness of the errors for structural reliability and heading but also ensure that no Zeno behavior occurs. Finally, the simulations demonstrate that the proposed event driven positioning controller’s performance while reducing the execution times of FPSO vessel’s actuators.

Decreased Insulin Resistance by Myo-Inositol Is Associated with Suppressed Interleukin 6/Phospho-STAT3 Signaling in a Rat Polycystic Ovary Syndrome Model

        Yulong Zhang,Changzhong Li,Wenhui Zhang,Xiangqin Zheng,Xiujuan Chen 한국식품영양과학회 2020 Journal of medicinal food Vol.23 No.4

Myo-inositol supplementation may reduce insulin resistance (IR) with few serious side effects in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). To explore the mechanism of this action in an animal model, a PCOS-IR rat model was generated. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was used to assess changes in ovulation function during treatment with a myo-inositol supplement, and Western blotting, real-time polymerase chain reaction, and immunohistochemistry were performed to investigate the underlying molecular mechanisms. The results showed that the myo-inositol supplement decreased the homeostatic model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) index and significantly decreased the serum levels of luteinizing hormone (LH), LH/follicle-stimulating hormone ratio, and testosterone, while increasing the serum level of estradiol. Upregulation of interleukin 6 (IL-6), phospho-STAT3 (p-STAT3), Mir-21, and Mir-155 and significant downregulation of PPAR-γ and GLUT4 were detected in the untreated PCOS-IR rat model. However, downregulation of IL-6, p-STAT3, miR-21, and miR-155 and significant upregulation of PPAR-γ and GLUT4 were detected with myo-inositol supplementation. Thus, myo-inositol supplementation may reduce Mir-21 and Mir-155 levels by downregulating IL-6 and p-STAT3 and, subsequently, reverse the expression of PPAR-γ and GLUT4, leading to a decreased HOMA-IR index. In conclusion, the identification of an IL-6/p-STAT3/Mir-155/Mir-21/PPAR-γ/GLUT4 system in the PCOS-IR rat model provides insight into the pathogenesis of PCOS and may indicate a possible therapeutic strategy. Amelioration of the basal serum glucose levels and of the HOMA/HOMA-IR index may be achieved by the reversal of the expression of PPAR-γ and GLUT4 through the downregulation of IL-6, p-STAT3, miR-21, and miR-155 with myo-inositol supplementation.

Finite-time extended state observer-based area keeping and heading control for turret-moored vessels with uncertainties and unavailable velocities

Tuo Yulong,Wang Shasha,Guo Chen 대한조선학회 2022 International Journal of Naval Architecture and Oc Vol.14 No.1

This paper investigates the finite-time extended state observer-based Dynamic Positioning (DP) control of turret-moored vessels with unavailable velocities and uncertainties. The control objective is to assist the mooring system of vessel in achieving area keeping and heading control. Firstly, unavailable velocities and uncertainties are estimated simultaneously by the designed finite-time Extended State Observer (ESO), where finite-time convergence and high accuracy of estimated values are guaranteed. Then, a reliability index is introduced to quantify the breakage probability of mooring lines. Based on estimated values and reliability index, a finite-time DP controller is proposed for area keeping and heading control of turret-moored vessels. The proposed controller can improve utilization efficiency of mooring system and guarantee finite-time convergence of all signals in closed-loop control system. Meanwhile, a saturation function is integrated into the controller to decrease the thrusters’ energy consumption. Finally, simulations and comparisons demonstrate the performance of finite-time ESO and DP controller.

Robust output feedback control for dynamic positioning of turret-moored vessels based on bio-inspired state observer and online constructive fuzzy system

Tuo Yulong,Wang Shasha,Guo Chen,Gao Shuang 대한조선학회 2022 International Journal of Naval Architecture and Oc Vol.14 No.1

This paper investigates the dynamic positioning control of turret-moored vessels with uncertainties, unknown disturbances and velocities. Firstly, a bio-inspired state observer is proposed based on the bioinspired neural dynamics model to estimate unknown velocities without vessel dynamics model. Meanwhile, an online constructive fuzzy approximator is designed to approximate uncertainties and unknown disturbances. To ensure fuzzy rules adequate and parsimonious, an online constructive scheme is proposed to adjust the fuzzy system structure without any prior knowledge. Based on the designed state observer and fuzzy approximator, a reliability-based robust output-feedback controller is proposed to make the reliability and heading converge to desired values. A reliability-based matrix is applied into the adaptive fuzzy parameter update law to simplify the stability analysis of closed-loop control system. The convergence of reliability can ensure full utilization of mooring system to maintain the vessel within allowable region. Finally, simulations and comparisons show the performance of proposed methods.
