Regularity for Very Weak Solutions of A-Harmonic Equation with Weight

        Gao, Hong-Ya,Zhang, Yu,Chu, Yu-Ming Department of Mathematics 2009 Kyungpook mathematical journal Vol.49 No.2

This paper deals with very weak solutions of the A-harmonic equation $divA(x,{\nabla}u)$ = 0 (*) with the operator $A:{\Omega}{\times}R^n{\rightarrow}R^n$ satisfies some coercivity and controllable growth conditions with Muckenhoupt weight. By using the Hodge decomposition with weight, a regularity property is proved: There exists an integrable exponent $r_1=r_1({\lambda},n,p)$ < p, such that every very weak solution $u{\in}W_{loc}^{1,r}({\Omega},{\omega})$ with $r_1$ < r < p belongs to $W_{loc}^{1,p}({\Omega},{\omega})$. That is, u is a weak solution to (*) in the usual sense.

      • Damage detection of subway tunnel lining through statistical pattern recognition

        Yu, Hong,Zhu, Hong P.,Weng, Shun,Gao, Fei,Luo, Hui,Ai, De M. Techno-Press 2018 Structural monitoring and maintenance Vol.5 No.2

Subway tunnel structure has been rapidly developed in many cities for its strong transport capacity. The model-based damage detection of subway tunnel structure is usually difficult due to the complex modeling of soil-structure interaction, the indetermination of boundary and so on. This paper proposes a new data-based method for the damage detection of subway tunnel structure. The root mean square acceleration and cross correlation function are used to derive a statistical pattern recognition algorithm for damage detection. A damage sensitive feature is proposed based on the root mean square deviations of the cross correlation functions. X-bar control charts are utilized to monitor the variation of the damage sensitive features before and after damage. The proposed algorithm is validated by the experiment of a full-scale two-rings subway tunnel lining, and damages are simulated by loosening the connection bolts of the rings. The results verify that root mean square deviation is sensitive to bolt loosening in the tunnel lining and X-bar control charts are feasible to be used in damage detection. The proposed data-based damage detection method is applicable to the online structural health monitoring system of subway tunnel lining.

Structural transformation, spectroscopic characterization and magnetic properties of La1xGdxCoO3

        Yu Gao,Hong Chang,Qiang Wu,P. Suresh Kumar,Meiling Li,Fang Liu,Hongjing Zhu,Yanbo Pang,Yuehou Yun 한국물리학회 2016 Current Applied Physics Vol.16 No.8

La1xGdxCoO3 for x < 0.2 crystallize in the rhombohedral structure, and it is orthorhombic for x 0:2. The lattice volume systematically decreases as x increases. The analysis of the Co 2p3/2 xps spectra indicates that the Co ions are at both þ3 and þ8/3 valence states, and the calculated oxygen content is about 2.93 per formula unit. The bending vibration of the CoeO bond linearly shifts from 429 cm1 to 482 cm1 with the increasing x, and it is coincident with the increasing CoeOeCo angle. The shoulder peak at approximately 575 cm1 becomes obviously wide with the increasing doping Gd3þ content owing to the magnetic interactions of the Gd3þ ions with the surrounding CoO6 octahedra. The energy band gap slightly increases from about 2.40 eV to about 2.75 eV as the structure transforms from the rhombohedral to the orthorhombic structure. The magnetic properties are ferrimagnetic with x ¼ 0.05, 0.3 and 0.7. However, the calculated Curie-Weiss temperature and constant of La0.3Gd0.7CoO3 are not reasonable, it is probably due to a nonlocalized electronic state.

      • Tea Consumption, Alcohol Drinking and Physical Activity Associations with Breast Cancer Risk among Chinese Females: a Systematic Review and Meta-analysis

        Gao, Ying,Huang, Yu-Bei,Liu, Xue-Ou,Chen, Chuan,Dai, Hong-Ji,Song, Feng-Ju,Wang, Jing,Chen, Ke-Xin,Wang, Yao-Gang Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2013 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.14 No.12

Objective: To evaluate associations between tea consumption, alcohol drinking and physical activity and breast cancer risk among Chinese females. Methods: Three English databases (PubMed, ScienceDirect and Wiley) and three Chinese databases (CNKI, WanFang and VIP) were independently searched by 2 reviewers up to December 2012, complemented by manual searches. The quality of included studies was assessed with the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale items. Random-effects models were used to estimate the pooled odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Potential publication bias was estimated through Egger's and Begg's tests. Heterogeneity between studies was evaluated with $I^2$ statistics. Results: Thirty-nine studies involving 13,204 breast cancer cases and 87,248 controls were identified. Compared with non-drinkers, regular tea drinkers had decreased risk (OR=0.79, 95%CIs: 0.65-0.95; $I^2$=84.9%; N=16). An inverse association was also found between regular physical activity and breast cancer risk (OR=0.73, 95%CIs: 0.63-0.85; $I^2$=77.3%; N=15). However, there was no significant association between alcohol drinking and breast cancer risk (OR=0.85, 95%CIs: 0.72-1.02; $I^2$=63.8%; N=26). Most of the results from the subgroup analysis were consistent with the main results. Conclusion: Tea consumption and physical activity are significantly associated with a decreased risk of breast cancer in Chinese females. However, alcohol drinking may not be associated with any elevation of risk.

Transcriptional activation of insulin-like growth factor binding protein 6 by 17β-estradiol in SaOS-2 cells

        Yu-yan Zhao,Lei Guo,Xiao-juan Zhao,Hong Liu,Tian Lei,Dong-jie Ma,Xiao-yu Gao 생화학분자생물학회 2009 Experimental and molecular medicine Vol.41 No.7

Osteoblasts can synthesize the insulin-like growth factors (IGFs) and the IGF-binding proteins (IGFBPs), which may either enhance or attenuate IGF-stimulated bone cell proliferation. Since estrogen induced osteoblastic differentiation and proliferation through an estrogen- responsive gene in target cells, we investigated the effects of estrogen on IGFBP-6 expression in the human osteoblastic-like cell line SaOS-2. Expressions of IGFBP-6 protein and mRNA increased 2.8 and 2-fold, respectively, in the presence of 17-β-estradiol (E2) (0.01 to 1 μM) and estrogen receptor (ER) in SaOS-2 cells. On the other hand, E2 induced a 2-fold increase in SaOS-2 cell proliferation. To identify genomic sequences associated with estrogen responsiveness, the 5'-promoter region (-44 to +118) of the IGFBP-6 gene was cloned into a chloramphenicol acetyltransferase (CAT) reporter vector. E2 induced a 3-fold increase in CAT activity in SaOS-2 cells transiently transfected with this construct. Identification of the estrogen- responsive element (ERE) [5'-CCTTCA CCTG-3'] (-9 to +1) in this IGFBP-6 gene promoter region was confirmed using electromobility shift assays and deletion analysis. This functional ERE was important for E2-induced trans-activation of the IGFBP-6 gene. These results demonstrate that E2 exhibits a positive effect on IGFBP-6 gene transcription through estrogen- liganded ER binding to the functional ERE in the IGFBP-6 gene promoter in SaOS-2 cells. Effect of a Mangosteen Dietary Supplement on Human Immune Function: A Randomized, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Trial

        Yu-Ping Tang,Peng-Gao Li,Miwako Kondo,Hong-Ping Ji,Yan Kou,Boxin Ou 한국식품영양과학회 2009 Journal of medicinal food Vol.12 No.4

The effect of a mangosteen product containing multivitamins and essential minerals was tested on immune function and well-being in healthy adults. A randomized, double blinded, placebo-controlled study was conducted in 59 healthy human subjects (40–60 years old). Changes from baseline immune function were measured after a 30-day consumption of the mangosteen product and the placebo. The subjects' self-appraisal of their health status was also surveyed. A xanthone-rich mangosteen product intake increased mean values for peripheral T-helper cell frequency (P=.020) and reduced the serum C-reactive protein concentration (P=.014). Increases in peripheral CD4/CD8 double-positive (DP) T-cell frequency and serum complement C3, C4, and interleukin (IL)-1α concentrations were significantly higher in the experimental group than in the placebo group (DP, P=.038; C3, P=.017; C4, P=.031; IL-1α, P=.006). At the end of study, serum IL-1α and IL-1β concentrations in the study group were significantly higher than that in the placebo group (IL-1α, P=.033; IL-1β, P=.04). Furthermore, more participants in the experimental group reported greatly improved overall health status compared with participants receiving placebo (P=.001). The results indicated that the intake of an antioxidant-rich product significantly enhanced immune responses and improved the subject's self-appraisal on his or her overall health status.

      • Name and Maintain Topological Faces in Rotating and Scanning Features

        Gao Xue-Yao,Li Jia-Qi,Guo Hao,Gao Yun-Feng,Liu Yu-Hong 보안공학연구지원센터 2016 International Journal of Grid and Distributed Comp Vol.9 No.3

Features created in rotating and scanning operations are very complex. Naming and identifying their topological faces is an important problem in CAD fields. In this paper, a new method of coding topological faces in rotating and scanning features is proposed. Firstly, contour segments are numbered. Secondly, an angle between contour segment and rotating axis is computed. Thirdly, all topological faces are named based on contour segments’ numbers, rotating axis and other information. When a face splits and several subfaces merge, a method of processing their codes is given. The proposed method is applied to HUST-CAID feature modeling system. Experimental results show that it can name and identify topological faces effectively in operations.

The Cyclic Peptide Ecumicin Targeting ClpC1 Is Active against <i>Mycobacterium tuberculosis In Vivo</i>

        Gao, Wei,Kim, Jin-Yong,Anderson, Jeffrey R.,Akopian, Tatos,Hong, Seungpyo,Jin, Ying-Yu,Kandror, Olga,Kim, Jong-Woo,Lee, In-Ae,Lee, Sun-Young,McAlpine, James B.,Mulugeta, Surafel,Sunoqrot, Suhair,Wang, American Society for Microbiology 2015 Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy Vol.59 No.2

<P>Drug-resistant tuberculosis (TB) has lent urgency to finding new drug leads with novel modes of action. A high-throughput screening campaign of >65,000 actinomycete extracts for inhibition of <I>Mycobacterium tuberculosis</I> viability identified ecumicin, a macrocyclic tridecapeptide that exerts potent, selective bactericidal activity against <I>M. tuberculosis</I> <I>in vitro</I>, including nonreplicating cells. Ecumicin retains activity against isolated multiple-drug-resistant (MDR) and extensively drug-resistant (XDR) strains of <I>M. tuberculosis</I>. The subcutaneous administration to mice of ecumicin in a micellar formulation at 20 mg/kg body weight resulted in plasma and lung exposures exceeding the MIC. Complete inhibition of <I>M. tuberculosis</I> growth in the lungs of mice was achieved following 12 doses at 20 or 32 mg/kg. Genome mining of lab-generated, spontaneous ecumicin-resistant <I>M. tuberculosis</I> strains identified the ClpC1 ATPase complex as the putative target, and this was confirmed by a drug affinity response test. ClpC1 functions in protein breakdown with the ClpP1P2 protease complex. Ecumicin markedly enhanced the ATPase activity of wild-type (WT) ClpC1 but prevented activation of proteolysis by ClpC1. Less stimulation was observed with ClpC1 from ecumicin-resistant mutants. Thus, ClpC1 is a valid drug target against <I>M. tuberculosis</I>, and ecumicin may serve as a lead compound for anti-TB drug development.</P>
