      • Development of Bengali Alphabet Self-Learning Device for Hearing-impaired Children based on Teaching Method in India

        Speaking is an important step in learning because it is a basic ability to acquire social knowledge and express what you understand. However, children with hearing impairments suffer from various barriers to the development of language skills because they lack the ability to hear and express themselves. Especially in the case of children with hearing impairment in developing countries, economic problems and lack of special education specialists make it difficult to educate appropriate methods of speaking in school. In this study, we collaborated with NGOs in West Bengal, India to research the hearing-impaired children"s schools and teaching methods, and developed self-learning device for the children. We also conducted a usability test for one week. The test show that hearing-impaired children could review and self-learn the alphabet utterance with the device.

      • Personal Data Disclosure in Blockchain Networks

        Objective: This study investigates the properties of blockchain networks that can influence users’ intention to disclose personal data. Background: Blockchain technology gives rise to new ways of managing personal data. It enables individual-centric data management with such characteristics as safe data storage and easy data sharing. Nevertheless, individuals have to disclose their data to others in peer-to-peer networks in blockchain, and accordingly privacy concerns could occur. In other words, blockchain technology can be a double-edged sword by simultaneously providing the privacy concern of personal data disclosure with the benefit of delivering network participants with a new way to manage their data. From the perspective of blockchain network users, there is still a lack of research on the impact on personal data disclosureThis study investigated the properties of blockchain networks. Method: This study consists of two phases, literature survey and user studyA literature survey was conducted to find the properties of blockchain networks related to personal data disclosure. It considered not only blockchain types—public/private, permission/permissionless blockchain—but also technologies that complement the limitations of blockchain technology, such as off-chain or inter-chain. Twenty-two properties of blockchain networks were obtained as a result. It also conducted user research to select the blockchain network properties influencing personal data disclosure intentions. Sixteen participants who have experiences participated in the experiment individually. They received 22 cards displaying the properties. They selected and ranked the cards they considered appropriate by using the following criteria: a) encouraging to disclose personal data to others within the network or b) making reluctant to disclose personal data to others within the network. And then this study conducted an interview on how they thought each blockchain network property influences the intention to disclose personal data. Results: As a result of the user research, the participants responded that ten properties could encourage disclosure, and five properties could influence disclosure reluctance. The participants responded that the security status of their data disclosed on the blockchain network—how personal data is exposed to others, how it is managed or stored—or trust in the network affects the disclosure intention of personal data. Although the participants responded that the ’financial reward from data disclosure’ can induce the disclosure intention, its rank is low because they do not think they can receive a large amount of money as a reward by disclosing data. They also responded that the properties of the public blockchain network—‘everyone could read the data in the network’, ’know whom the personal data came from’, ’all users, including myself, own all data’—particularly influence in their reluctance to disclose data. Conclusion: This study investigated whether blockchain technology can be used for individual-centric data management systems from the point of view of network users. Blockchain network properties usually influence a positive effect on data disclosure intention. On the other hand, the properties that may make people reluctant to disclose personal data are the fundamental characteristic of the public blockchain. It is necessary to design individual-centric data management systems using blockchain technologies with private blockchain or other technologies that can overcome this limitations.

      • Design Strategies for Learnability in Voice User Interface: Literature Survey

        Human and machine can interact each other in spoken language through Voice User Interface. VUI, however, has challenges, such as technical challenge and audio inherent challenge. Audio inherent challenge, especially the invisible nature of VUI can challenge users’ ability to discover its capabilities and limitations. When discoverability is challenging, learnability can be compromised. This study conducted literature survey focusing on learnability issues in VUI. The survey showed several design strategies to improve learnability in VUI; a) Design graphic, b) Design output speech, c) Design universal interface, d) Design sound cues, and e) Design lifelike character. The definition of each design strategy, ways to deliver, and positive aspect of the strategies are described in this paper. This study can be used to enhance the learnability of the VUI.

      • MyData에 대한 가치 판단 기준

        Objective: The aim of this study is to analyze the value perception criteria of MyData from the perspective of data owners. Background: As the use of personal data increases, data owners begin to be concerned the value of MyData. Research is needed to estimate the fair value of MyData. Method: A literature survey was conducted to find the criteria estimating the value of MyData. Factors related to the value estimation criteria were derived from the literature, and similar elements were classified by the affinity diagram. Results: Seven criteria were derived to estimate the value of MyData from the perspective of the data owner. Conclusion: The results of this study can be used to set fair pricing criteria for data sales from the data owners’ perspective.

        Objective: The goal of this study is to propose a systematic process for creating ideas combining blockchain technology and user requirements together. Background: In order for blockchain technology to positive influence the user experience, the service ideas in which technology and user requirements are combined are important Few research has investigated the creation process, which makes it difficult in generating problem-solving ideas using blockchain technology. A thorough analysis of previous studies allowed us to develop structured ideas. The developed process used a card-based. Results: A five-step process was proposed to derive innovative ideas applying blockchain technology satisfying user requirements. Conclusion: The process will allow developers to understand blockchain technology and derive ideas satisfying user requirements. It is expected to derive new ideas with the proposed process and analyze the results to prove the efficiency and effectiveness of the process.

      • 청자의 감성 분석을 통한 음악 장르간 인터섹션 연구

        현대 한국인들 중 다수는 한국음악이 서양음악보다 고루하다고 생각하는 경향이 있다. 그래서 한국음악보다 친근한 서양음악을 이용하여 한국 음악을 이해할 수 있도록 청자의 감정을 이용한 음악 간 인터섹션을 연구하였다. 청자의 감정 연구를 위해 Thayer"s mood 모델을 참고하여 피험자들에게 서양음악 한국음악 총 60 곡을 들려주고 음악에서 느껴지는 감정에 대한 설문에 응답하게 하였다. 그 곡들의 음악적 특성을 템포, 조성, mfcc 로 나누고 청자의 감정과의 관련성을 분석한 결과 음악 간 비슷한 특성이 많아질 수록 감정과의 관련성도 높아지는 것을 알 수 있었다. 그리고 연구를 바탕으로 서양음악과 한국음악의 청자감정을 통한 인터페이스를 이용한 한국음악 추천 시스템을 제안하였다. Modern Korean people usually think Korean music is outdated than Western music. Therefore, we discover music intersection using listeners" emotion for understand Korean music. For study about listeners’ emotions, subjects listened 60 music and answered survey questions derived from Thayer"s model of mood. We classification music into 3 categories as bpm, key and mfcc and named music" characteristics. After that, we analyzed music by emotional relations. We found that the music have the more same characteristics, the more emotionally related each other. And we suggest a recommendation system using the Western and Korean music interface.

        This study aims to define IoT intelligence and its characteristics. Advances in the field of information and communication technology have allowed the devices to be connected to the network. It allows the users to monitor and control the devices anytime and anywhere. With the data collected by the IoT devices, it is possible to understand the behaviors and intention of the users. The devices can provide services suitable for the situation and the intention, which are called intelligent services or personalized services. Accordingly, intelligent IoT services are being developed and launched. But most are designed with a technology focus, so those are featureless and fail to provide a satisfying experience for users. To provide a better experience for the users, it is necessary to understand IoT intelligence with the user"s viewpoint. This study defined IoT intelligence as a system that senses/understands the behaviors of users and their context and provides assistive services with a certain degree of autonomy and rationality in an IoT environment. And we derived its characteristics from two perspectives; IoT intelligence service types and IoT intelligence maturity levels. The results of this study can be used to develop new IoT services in the future.

      • A Methodology for Generating Ideas to Solve Problems of the Mobility-Challenged

        The aim of this study is to conduct root cause analysis of problems of the mobility-challenged when they walk and generate ideas to solve the problems using idea generation techniques. Finding users’ problems is important to develop new products or services which give better user experience to users. Based on collected problems, identifying causes of them is also essential to develop effective and creative products and services. There are many techniques for cause analysis and idea generation. Different techniques should be chosen depending on target users, types of product and service. This study tried to make ideas to improve the experience of the mobility-challenged when they walk outside. We choose 5W1H and Why-Why diagram as cause analysis techniques. In idea generation step, How-How diagram and SCAMPER were used. As a result, 1,055 causes were derived from 23 problems, and 146 ideas were generated using idea generation techniques. Ideas can be classified into two types by their function: providing information and aiding communication. Providing information about obstacles, other people, and mobility-challenged is included in providing information type. Ideas about translating speech, notifying and sending request are included in aiding communication type. This results of the study can be utilized to develop real product or service to improve the experience of the mobility-challenged when they walk.
