        The parasitic copepod. Caligus chanos parasitized on labridae fish around MunSum. Cheju Island, have been basically studied form Sep.. 1996 to Aug.. 1997. Parasitic pattern and water temperatures have a close relationship. which is high in June and low form Feb. to Apr.. Fishes of main hosts were Pseudolabrus japonicus and Pteragogus Ragellifer. Parasitic copepods prefer the body and tail of the host to the head, and prefer adult host to juveniles or older one.

        췌장의 고형 가유두상 종양의 수술 후 추적 기간 중 발생한 주위림프절 및 다발성 간전이 1예

        Solid pseudo-papillary neoplasm (SPN) of pancreas is a rare epithelial neoplasm of pancreas with a low malignant potential, occurs most commonly in young females. Here, we report a rare case of woman who has severe hepatomegaly due to multiple hepatic metastases of SPN of pancreas. At the time of diagnosis, a SPN was detected at only pancreas and there was no evidence of metastasis. So, she received subtotal pancreatectomy and total splenectomy. After 2 years of follow up, multiple small hepatic metastases were presented. In spite of three times of radiofrequency ablation, the burden of hepatic metastasis has increased continuously and multiple intra-abdominal lymph nodes metastases were detected, and ascites and peripheral edema occurred. However, because of benign feature of SPN and extremely rare incidence of recurrence and metastasis, there is no specific treatment guideline for metastatic SPN. Through multidisciplinary care service, we planned to do radiotherapy followed by a transarterial chemoembolization (TACE). But the patient could not have a scheduled radiation therapy due to deterioration of liver function. So changing the strategy of treatment, followed by TACEs were done alone. Although the size of SPN is not reduced, the extent of SPN and complication of SPN (ascites, peripheral edema, abdominal pain and so on) are being controlled. (J Liver Cancer 2018;18:168-174)

      • Enhanced functions of hepatocytes derived from human pluripotent stem cells using size-controlled 3D culture system

        Hepatocyte-like cells (HLCs) derived from human pluripotent stem cells have received extensive attention in the development of drug screening and toxicity testing. However, it has been reported that stem cell-derived HLCs showed hepatic functions that were too limited to be of use in drug screening and toxicity testing, possibly due to the lack of sufficient intercellular communication under conventional two-dimensional (2D) culture conditions. Therefore, a 3D differentiation system may overcome the in vitro limitation of 2D culture to produce stem cell-derived hepatocytes with mature metabolic functions. In this study, the feasibility of using a silicone-based spherofilm, specifically designed to produce spherical cell clusters, to generate uniformly sized 3D hepatic spheroids from hESCs was investigated. Hepatic spheroids generated on the spherofilm showed more homogenous size and shape than those generated in conventional low-attachment suspension culture dishes. Results of immunohistochemical analysis showed that expression of the mature hepatic marker albumin (ALB) increased over time during the hepatic maturation process. Furthermore, the 3D culture system mimicked the in vivo 3D microenvironment. Laminin, which is an important component of hepatic ECM, was expressed in hepatic spheroids. The results of immunohistochemical analysis indicated that the 3D culture environment is capable of generating an in vivo-like microenvironment. In addition, quantitative PCR analysis showed that the mature hepatic marker ALB and cytochrome P450 (CYP) enzymes CYP3A4 and CYP3A7 were expressed at higher levels in 3D culture than in 2D culture. This indicates that the 3D culture system is suitable for hepatic maturation and that our size-controlled 3D culture conditions might accelerate hepatic function. These results suggest that 3D hepatic spheroids significantly enhance metabolic maturation of hepatocytes derived from hESCs

      • 급성 구강감염부위에서 Staphylococcus lugunensis 의 특성

        Staphylococcus lugdunensis (S. lugdunensis) is a newly identified pathogenic species of coagulase negative staphylococci and an occasional but not rare cause of severe infections, such as infective endocarditis after dental extraction, bacteremia, osteomyelitis, peritonitis, and soft tissue infections. As antibiotic use increased, resistance rapidly developed. Some strains have plasmids related to antibiotic resistance. To characterize S. lugdunensis in acute oral infection, S. lugdunensis was isolated from the patients with acute oral abscess, osteomyelitis, and normal persons. Antibiotic resistance, in vitro cellular toxicity, in vivo virulence, δ-like hemolysin activity, and synergistic hemolysis on sheep blood agar plates were investigated. The dot blot analysis and Southern blot analysis of staphylococcal DNA was performed with δ-hemolysin gene probe of Staphylococcus aureus. (S. aureus) Staphylococcal DNA was cloned, nucleotide sequence was analysed, and homology was compared with other sequence in Gene Bank. S. aureus, S. lugdunensis, Staphylococcus cohnii (S. cohnii), and other coagulase negative staphylococci (CNS) were isolated from the patients with acute oral infection. The isolation ratio of S. lugdunensis in the patients with infection was higher than that of healthy persons, but the isolation ratio of S. aureus in the patients with infection was similar to that of healthy persons. S. lugdunensis from the patients with acute oral infection showed the resistance to penicillin, methicillin, cephalothin, and clindamycin. S. lugdunensis in the patients had cellular toxicity in vitro and virulence in vivo. All strains of S. lugdunensis had δ-like hemolysin activity against rabbit erythrocytes. Four of the six strains of S. lugdunensis gave synergistic hemolysis with S. aureus on sheep blood agar plates. In dot blot analysis, all strains of S. lugdunensis showed the positive reaction with the probe of δ-hemolysin gene in S. aureus, but a 7.3 kb HindⅢ fragment was observed in the DNA of S. lugdunensis that gave synergistic hemolysis in a Southern blot analysis. The molecular size of partially purified δ-hemolysin was about 50 kd. The cloned fragments from the chromosomal DNA of S. lugdunensis showed the partial homology with the insulin receptor-related and dopamine receptor of humans. These results suggest that S. lugdunensis might be an important pathogen in acute oral infection and show some homology with eukaryotes.

        영아 및 부모 특성과 12개월 영아의 발달적 특성 관계 연구

        본 연구에서는 12개월 영아의 의사소통, 문제해결, 사회적 기술 등 영아발달의 일반적인 경향과 관련 변인을 밝히고자 ASQ로 영아의 발달을 측정하고, 영아의 기질, 어머니의 양육신념, 아버지의 양육분담 등을 조사하였다. 연구결과 첫째, 전반적으로 만 12개월 영아는 다른 영역에 비해 문제해결 영역에서 가장 높은 점수를 보였으며, 문항별 수행은 대체로 ASQ에서 제시한 난이도 순서를 따르고 있었으나 몇몇 문항에서 예외가 발견되었다. 둘째, ASQ의 몇몇 문항에서 성차가 나타났으며, 발달 영역 간에는 비교적 높은 상관이 있었으나 남아의 경우 문제해결과 사회적 기술 간에는 유의한 상관이 나타나지 않았다. 셋째, 영아의 발달과 관련된 변인은 발달영역별로 차이가 있었으나 영아의 성별과 기질, 어머니의 학력과 아버지의 양육분담 등이 주요 변인으로 발견되었다. The purpose of this study was to investigate infants-communication, problem-solving and social skills at the age of 12 month. One hundred ten infants of 12 month old participated in the study. The results were as follows. First, the infants obtained much higher score on problem-solving area than on communication area or on social skill area. Second, there were relatively high correlation between developmental areas except a boy`s problem solving and social development area. Third, an infant`s sex and temperament, mother`s education and father`s participation of child-rearing were significantly related with communication, problem-solving and social development.

        Immunomodulatory activity of biosilica water on mouse dendritic cells

        Biosilica is a material extracted from the shell (cell wall) of Melosira nummuloides, a type of sea diatom, and is one of the widely distributed biominerals. Recently, some studies have revealed that biosilica has a characteristic bio-modulatory activity compared to synthetic silica. However, there has been little research on the effects and action mechanisms of biosilica in immune cells. In this study, we investigated the effect of biosilica water on mouse dendritic cells (DCs), the most potent antigen-presenting cells in immunity, and whether it may alter the function of DCs. Biosilica water decreased the metabolic activity of DCs at 20% concentration (v/v) and the production of IL-1 beta in a concentration-dependent manner. And also, more cells with fragmented nuclei were observed in the DCs treated with 20% biosilica water compared to other treatment groups. The mixed leukocyte response experiment showed the biosilica water-treated DCs significantly modulated the metabolic activity and proliferation of allogeneic spleen cells compared to control DCs. This result suggests that biosilica water may modulate the antigen-presenting capability of DCs. Taken together, this study shows the immunomodulatory activity of biosilica on DCs and may affect immune responses. Further research is needed to investigate the immunological activity of biosilica water.

        한국인 폐경 후 여성에서 골관절염과 비타민 D 수용체의 다형성과의 연관관계의 부족

        Objective: To determine whether polymorphisms of the Vitamin D receptor (VDR) gene, known to be associated with osteoporosis and/or osteoarthritis (OA) in Caucasians, might also relate to the risk of OA and osteoporosis in Korean postmenopausal women Methods: A population of 130 postmenopausal women, including 76 healthy controls and 54 knee OA patients, were studied using anteroposterior radiographs of the knee, which were graded for OA according to the Kellgren classification system. The VDR genotype was determined by using polymerase chain reaction and by digestion with the three restriction enzymes Taq I, Bsm I, and Apa I. Femoral neck bone mineral density (BMD) was assessed in all participants by dual energy X-ray absorptiometry. Results: VDR genotype frequency distributions in Koreans were much different from Caucasian`s both in the OA group and the control group. Especially, tt, BB and AA genotype were very rare, prominently differentiating from Caucasians. But within Koreans, no significant differences in VDR genotype frequencies were observed between OA cases and controls. VDR genotype was not significantly associated with the radiographic grades of OA. And there were no significant relationships of VDR genotype with BMD scores in each group. Conclusion: In Korean postmenoposal women, the VDR gene polymorphisms do not significantly contribute to an increased prevalence of knee OA or to differences in BMD. VDR genotype analysis would not be helpful for assessing the risk of knee OA in Koreans because: (1) there is no correlation of VDR genotypes with the radiographic severity of OA; and (2) there is a more skewed distribution of VDR genotypes in Korean population compared to the Caucasian`s.
