The relationship between adolescent children and parents has a profound effect on not only the adolescents development into healthy adults but also the psychological welfare of the parent. A program focused to improve adolescents relationship with parents has not been developed until now. To achieve the educational goals enhancing mutual understanding, it is more effective to educate both the parents and adolescent childern. Thus, this study developed and carried out a program in which adolescent children and mothers, being fully in charge of raising children, participated. The study analyzed the program effects after implementing on 6 pairs of adolescent children and mothers. The results are as follows: 1) adolescent children and mothers placed high values on the fact that they can understand each other well, 2) both parties accepted each other by recognizing the inevitability of the generation gap, and 3) the program gave them a chance to admit that they should try to communicate openly. Most of all, adolescent children could find self-confidence while mothers could collect valuable data essential to raise children and build a new mother's role model adapting to social changes.
폐결핵치료 중인 환자에서 Rifampicin에 의해 유발된 위막성 대장염 2예

Pseudomembranous colitis (PMC) is a disease caused by Clostridium difficile proliferation. The causative drugs are clindamycin, third-generation cephalosporins, flouroquinolone and so on. Rifampicin has been reported as a cause of PMC in the 1980s, and the frequency of PMC is increasing because rifampicin is a first line drug for anti-tuberculosis therapy. Two patients were recently admitted to our hospital due to watery diarrhea for 1 month and they were diagnosed with PMC by sigmoidoscopy. Their onset age were 74, 72 years old and latent period of symptoms were 60, 129 days, respectively. In one case, the patient displayed coexisting hypertension and diabetes. The clinical symptoms improved after discontinuing the rifampicin and then administering oral metronidazole. We report here on two cases presumed to be rifampicin-induced PMC.

We reported the results of a study examining the relationship between knowledge and attitude and recognition of tobacco advertising in a group of primary school children. Data were collected from 1,075 primary school children in Seoul through an interview survey conducted from April 20 to May 10, 1992. The results were as follows; 1. The most recognized brands of tobacco advertising were Marlboro, with 90.6%, and Yvssaint Laurent 73.3%, Kent, 56.0%, Marlboro man, 53.7%, Salam, 39.7%, Mild Seven, 39.0%, Vantage, 37.9%, and Lucky Strike, 12.8% responded, respectively. 2. As to the questionnaire on the exposure places of tobacco advertising, 35.9% responded that they were exposed in the store, 25.5%, 12.2%, 9.0%, 4.4%, 3.6%, 3.4% responded vending machine, magazine, supermarket, home, street, and drug store, respectively. 3. On the level of recognition concerning tobacco advertising, among those at grade levels had higher recognition rates. 4. Students with higher recognition rate of tobacco advertising showed 1.2 times higher positive attitude towards smoking than those with lower level of recognition. Therefore, it will be necessary to reduce or prohibit tobacco advertising where frequent exposure to tobacco advertisements take place, such as the store, vending machine, and magazines, is to contributing to create a healthy environment for the children.

Purpose: Transglutaminase type 2 (TG2) is an extracellular matrix crosslinking enzyme with a pivotal role in kidney fibrosis. We tested whether quantification of urinary TG2 may represent a noninvasive method to estimate the severity of kidney allograft fibrosis. Methods: We prospectively collected urine specimens from 18 deceased donor kidney transplant recipients at 1-day, 7-day, 1-month, 3-month, and 6-month posttransplant. In addition, kidney allograft tissue specimens at 0-day and 6-month posttransplant were sampled to analyze the correlation of urinary TG2 and kidney allograft fibrosis. Results: Thirteen recipients had increased interstitial fibrosis and tubular atrophy (IFTA) scores at the 6-month protocol biopsy (IFTA group). The mean level of urinary TG2 in the IFTA group was higher compared to that of 5 other recipients without IFTA (no IFTA group). Conversely, the mean level of urinary syndecan-4 in the IFTA group was lower than levels in patients without IFTA. In the IFTA group, double immunofluorescent staining revealed that TG2 intensity was significantly upregulated and colocalizations of TG2/heparin sulfate proteoglycan and nuclear syndecan-4 were prominent, usually around tubular structures. Conclusion: Urinary TG2 in early posttransplant periods is a potent biomarker for kidney allograft inflammation or fibrosis.

Gastric carcinoid tumors are rare neoplasms that account less than 1% of all gastric cancer. They are classified as three types by pathogenesis. Type I gastric carcinoid tumors are arising from hyperplasia of enterochromaffin-like cells (ECLs) due to secondary hypergastrinema. Type I gastric carcinoid tumors can be associated with autoimmune disease for example type A chronic atrophic gastritis presenting antibodies to parietal cell or intrinsic factor. Some case reports has showed other autoimmune diseases such a sautoimmune thrombocytopenic purpura, autoimmune multi-glandular failure, type I diabetes mellitus, autoimmune hepatitis as well as autoimmune thyroiditis could be related to type Igastric carcinoid tumors. Especially, autoimmune thyroiditis combined with type I gastric carcinoid tumor has not yet been reported on except one case report in the world. We report rare case of autoimmune hypothyroidism due to Hashimoto`s thyroiditis combined with gastric carcinoid along with review of the related literature.
Binding Models of Flavonols to Human Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor Receptor 2

Human vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2 (hVEGFR2) is an important signaling protein involved in angiogenesis and attractive drug target in cancer therapy. It has been reported that flavonols, a class of flavonoids, have anti-angiogenic activity in various cancer cell lines. We performed receptor-oriented pharmacophore based in silico screening for identification of hVEGFR2 inhibitors from flavonol database. By comparing with three X-ray complex structures of hVEGFR2 and its inhibitors, we evaluated the specific interactions between inhibitors and receptors and determined a single pharmacophore map. This map consisted of four features, a hydrogen bonding acceptor (HBA) on Cys917, two hydrogen bonding donors on Glu917 (HBD1) and Glu883 (HBD2), and one hydrophobic interaction (Lipo) with Val846, Ala864, Val897, Val914 and Phe1045 of hVEGFR2. Using this map, we searched a flavonol database including 9 typical flavonols and proposed that five flavonols, kaempferol, quercetin, fisetin, morin, and rhamnetin can be potent inhibitors of hVEGFR2. 3-OH of C-ring and 4’-OH of B-ring of flavonols are the essential features for hVEGFR2 inhibition. This study will be helpful for understanding the mechanism of inhibition of hVEGFR2 by natural products.
c-Fos Expression in the Nucleus of the Solitary Tract in Response to Salt Stimulation in Rats

Salt signals in tongue are relayed to the nucleus of the solitary tract (NST). This signaling is very important to determine whether to swallow salt-related nutrition or not and suggests some implications in discrimination of salt concentration. Salt concentration-dependent electrical responses in the chorda tympani and the NST were well reported. But salt concentration-dependency and spatial distribution of c-Fos in the NST were not well established. In the present study, NaCl signaling in the NST was studied in urethane-anesthetized rats. The c-Fos immunoreactivity in the six different NST areas along the rostral-caudal axis and six subregions in each of bilateral NST were compared between applications of distilled water and different concentrations of NaCl to the tongue of experimental animals. From this study, salt stimulation with high concentration (1.0 M NaCl) induced significantly higher c-Fos expression in intermediate NST and dorsal-medial and dorsal-middle subregions of the NST compared to distilled water stimulation. The result represents the specific spatial distribution of salt taste perception in the NST.
Docking Study of Flavonols and Human c-Jun N-terminal Kinase 1

c-Jun N-terminal kinase 1 (JNK1) is involved in apoptosis, cell differentiation and proliferation. It has been reported that a flavonol, quercetin, induces cell apoptosis and JNK inhibition. In order to understand the interactions of quercetin and JNK1, we performed receptor-oriented pharmacophore based in silico screening and determined a binding model of human JNK1 and quercetin at the ATP binding site of JNK1. 5-OH of A-ring and carbonyl oxygen of C-ring of quercetin participated in hydrogen bonding interactions with backbone of E109 and M111. Additionally, 3'-OH of quercetin formed a hydrogen bond with backbone of I32. One hydrophobic interaction is related on the binding of quercetin to JNK1 with I32, N114, and V158. Based on this model, we conducted a docking study with other 8 flavonols to find possible flavonoids inhibitors of JNK1. We proposed that one flavonols, rhamnetin, can be a potent inhibitor of JNK and 5-OH of A-ring and 3'-OH of B-ring of flavonols are the essential features for JNK1 inhibition.

<P><I>Objectives:</I> Although hepatitis B virus (HBV) is endemic to Korea, no large-scale survey of HBV genotypes and serotypes based on sequence analysis has been performed. <I>Methods:</I> In the present study, we genotyped and serotyped HBV strains from 209 patients in two Korean regions, Seoul (107 patients) and Jeju (102 patients), an island off the southeastern Korean coast. Analyses were conducted using the direct sequencing method targeting the partial surface (S) gene (541 bp). <I>Results:</I> Phylogenetic analysis showed that all HBV strains from the 209 patients belonged to genotype C2 (100%). Of the 209 patients, 193 (92.3%), 12 (5.7%) and 1 (0.5%) were found to have the <I>adr</I>, <I>adw</I> and <I>ayr</I> serotypes, respectively. The other three strains (1.5%) showed unique serotype and were not typeable by sequence analysis. No HBV strains characteristic of Jeju island were observed. <I>Conclusions:</I> The extraordinary predominance of genotype C2 in chronic Korean patients, which is known to be associated with more severe liver disease than genotype B, suggests that the clinical manifestations of Korean HBV chronic patients are likely to differ from those found in other Asian countries, especially in Japan and Taiwan, where genotypes B and C coexist.</P><P>Copyright © 2007 S.
