We investigated whether an aqueous extract of Chong-Myung-Tang inhibits secretion of tumor necrosis factor-a (TNF-α) from primary cultures of mouse astrocytes. Chong-Myung-Tang dosedependently inhibited the TNF-α secretion by astrocytes stimulated with substance P (SP) and lipopolysaccharide (LPS). Interleukin-1 (IL-1) has been shown to elevate TNF-α secretion from LPS-stimulated astrocytes while having no effect on astrocytes in the absence of LPS. We therefore investigated whether IL-1 mediated inhibition of TNF-α secretion from astrocytes by Chong-Myung-Tang. Treatment of Chong-Myung-Tang to astrocytes stimulated with both LPS and SP decreased IL-1 secretion. Moreover, incubation of astrocytes with IL-1 amtobody abolished the synergistic cooperative effect of LPS and SP. These results suggest that Chong-Myung-Tang may inhibits TNF-α secretion by inhibiting IL-1 secretion and that Chong-Myung-Tang has a antiinflammatory activity in the central nervous system.

<P>Atomically thin binary two-dimensional (2D) semiconductors exhibit diverse physical properties depending on their composition, structure, and thickness. By adding another element in these materials, which will lead to formation of ternary 2D materials, the property and structure would greatly change and significantly expanded applications could be explored. In this work, we report structural and optical properties of atomically thin chromium thiophosphate (CrPS4), a ternary antiferromagnetic semiconductor. Its structural details were revealed by X-ray and electron diffraction. Transmission electron microscopy showed that preferentially cleaved edges are parallel to diagonal Cr atom rows, which readily identified their crystallographic orientations. Strong in-plane optical anisotropy induced birefringence that also enabled efficient determination of crystallographic orientation using polarized microscopy. The lattice vibrations were probed by Raman spectroscopy and exhibited significant dependence on thickness of crystals exfoliated down to a single layer. Optical absorption determined by reflectance contrast was dominated by d–d-type transitions localized at Cr3+ ions, which was also responsible for the major photoluminescence peak at 1.31 eV. The spectral features in the absorption and emission spectra exhibited noticeable thickness dependence and hinted at a high photochemical activity for single-layer CrPS4. The current structural and optical investigation will provide a firm basis for future study and application of this kind of atomically thin magnetic semiconductors.</P><P><B>Graphic Abstract</B> <IMG SRC='http://pubs.acs.org/appl/literatum/publisher/achs/journals/content/ancac3/2017/ancac3.2017.11.issue-11/acsnano.7b04679/production/images/medium/nn-2017-04679m_0006.gif'></P><P><A href='http://pubs.acs.org/doi/suppl/10.1021/nn7b04679'>ACS Electronic Supporting Info</A></P>

Objectives : We attempt to find out the present situation of a study regarding psychotherapy in Korean medicine through research journals in the JON (The Journal of Oriental Neuropsychiatry). Methods : We searched and read every JON from 1990 to 2012 and selected articles relating to Psychotherapy. We then analyzed the data and divided them into 3 categories: literature study, case studies and clinical trials. Results : 1) We found 16 literature articles, in which 6 compared Korean psychotherapy with that of the Western, 4 reinterpreted it focusing on traditional cases in Korean psychotherapy, 3 articles were on Qigong, 1 article was on Buddhism and another on Tao, and 1 article was with regards to dreams. 2) There were a total of 26 case reports about Korean psychotherapy. Among them, JiUnGoRoen had the most at 12; somatoform disorder was the most target disease in 9. 3) There were a total of 13 clinical trials on Korean psychotherapy. There were 4 trials on meditation, 6 on Qigong, each 1 of each for EFT, suggestion and autogenic relaxation. Conclusions : In spite of many resources in Korean psychotherapy, it was limited because it was not able to systematize clinically. Hence, we need to hand down and systematize Korean psychotherapy further.

A 21-year-young man had an episode of myalgia and chilling 3 days prior to hospital admission. He had consumed common doses of acetaminophen for one day, and was presented in the sauna room for an hour. On the next morning, he complained of dyspnea and was admitted. He presented in rhabdo-myolysis and acute renal failure with increased up-take in the proximal muscles by (99m)Tc-MPD bone scan. He was treated by hemodialysis and discharged on the twenty-eighth hospital day. Rhabdomyolysis has the variable causes. The causes of this case are two, the first cause is common doses of acetaminophen. But, there is no reports for rhabdomyolysis by common doses of acetaminophen only. However, we should consider that acetaminophen is a contributing factor in this case. The second cause is viral infection. Our patient had myalgia and chilling prior to hospital admission. Heat- stroke is well known cause of rhabdomyolysis. The mechnisms for rhabdomyolysis in this disease are hypovolemia, total body potassium deficit, and increased variable cytokines. Sauna, the last cause of our rhabdomyolysis case may have the same mechanisms with heatstroke. Our case had two causative factors, common doses of acetaminophen and sauna. These factors might be cooperated in our case of rhabdomyolysis and acute renal failure.

Two cases are herein reported involving patients with ectopic gallstones which were discharged into the stomach and duodenum through a cholecystoduodenal fistula and successfully removed by endoscopic therapy. In the first case, a 75-year-old man was admitted with epigastric pain. Simple abdomen film demonstrated a round laminated calcification and air biliarygram in the RUQ. Endoscopic examination revealed a fistula on the posterior wall of the duodenal bulb and a brown stone (about 5 cm in diameter) was found in the second portion of the duodenum, It was demolished through endoscopic electrohydraulic lithotripsy (EEH1) and discharged with the stool. In the second case, a 55-year-old man was admitted with epigastric pain. A CT scan revealed an ovoid laminated calcification in the dependent portion of the stomach. Endoscopic examination revealed a fistula on the anterior wa11 of' the duodenal bulb and a black pigmented stone (about 2.5 cm in diameter) was found in the stomach. This stone was removed orally by an endoscopic snare. These patients were discharged and remained asymptomatic.

The improving efficacies of Hericium Gold® containing fermented extract of Hericium erinaceum on an alcoholic fatty liver investigated using alcohol plus a high-fat diet-induced steatosis model. Male Sprague-Dawley rats were orally administered with 6 ㎖/㎏ (15 ㎖/㎏ as 40% in water) of ethanol for 4 weeks, under simultaneous feeding of a high-fat diet containing 3% corn oil, 0.5% cholesterol and 0.1% cholic acid. Hericium Gold® (33, 100 or 300 ㎎/㎏) or its vehicle (water, 1 ㎖/㎏) was orally treated 30 min prior to ethanol administration everyday. The combinational treatment of ethanol and a high-fat diet slightly reduced feed consumption, leading to lowered body weight gain, and enhanced blood cholesterol and low-density lipoproteins (LDL) levels. Ethanol plus a high-fat diet induced hepatic congestion and steatosis, resulting in the increases in blood alanine transaminase (ALT) activity and hepatic lesions. Although a high dose (300 ㎎/㎏) of Hericium Gold® further suppressed feed consumption and body weight gain of Ethanol plus a high-fat diet-treated rats, it attenuated not only the increases in blood cholesterol, LDL, ALT and aspartate transaminase (AST) levels, but also hepatic congestion and hepatic lesions including lipid deposition. Taken together, the results suggest that Hericium Gold® possesses hepatoprotective activity against exposure to alcohol and dietary fats, and that could be a candidate for the improvement of alcoholic liver disorders.
