Associations of Plasma Glucagon Levels with Estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate, Albuminuria and Diabetic Kidney Disease in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

        Hua-Xing Huang,Liang-Lan Shen,Hai-Yan Huang,Li-Hua Zhao,Feng Xu,Dong-Mei Zhang,Xiu-Lin Zhang,Tong Chen,Xue-Qin Wang,Yan Xie,Jian-Bin Su 대한당뇨병학회 2021 Diabetes and Metabolism Journal Vol.45 No.6

Background: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is characterized by elevated fasting glucagon and impaired suppression of postprandial glucagon secretion, which may participate in diabetic complications. Therefore, we investigated the associations of plasma glucagon with estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), albuminuria and diabetic kidney disease (DKD) in T2DM patients. Methods: Fasting glucagon and postchallenge glucagon (assessed by area under the glucagon curve [AUCgla]) levels were determined during oral glucose tolerance tests. Patients with an eGFR <60 mL/min/1.73 m2 and/or a urinary albumin-to-creatinine ratio (UACR) ≥30 mg/g who presented with diabetic retinopathy were identified as having DKD.Results: Of the 2,436 recruited patients, fasting glucagon was correlated with eGFR and UACR (r=–0.112 and r=0.157, respectively; P<0.001), and AUCgla was also correlated with eGFR and UACR (r=–0.267 and r=0.234, respectively; P<0.001). Moreover, 31.7% (n=771) presented with DKD; the prevalence of DKD was 27.3%, 27.6%, 32.5%, and 39.2% in the first (Q1), second (Q2), third (Q3), and fourth quartile (Q4) of fasting glucagon, respectively; and the corresponding prevalence for AUCgla was 25.9%, 22.7%, 33.7%, and 44.4%, respectively. Furthermore, after adjusting for other clinical covariates, the adjusted odds ratios (ORs; 95% confidence intervals) for DKD in Q2, Q3, and Q4 versus Q1 of fasting glucagon were 0.946 (0.697 to 1.284), 1.209 (0.895 to 1.634), and 1.521 (1.129 to 2.049), respectively; the corresponding ORs of AUCgla were 0.825 (0.611 to 1.114), 1.323 (0.989 to 1.769), and 2.066 (1.546 to 2.760), respectively. Additionally, when we restricted our analysis in patients with glycosylated hemoglobin <7.0% (n=471), we found fasting glucagon and AUCgla were still independently associated with DKD.Conclusion: Both increased fasting and postchallenge glucagon levels were independently associated with DKD in T2DM patients.

Polydopamine/β-cyclodextrin/coal fly ash composite for the highly efficient extraction of uranium from water environment

        Yan Wang,Yong Zhang,Xiaolin Liu,Sen Sun,Shiyi Qin,Jiaqi Huang,Bowei Chen 한국공업화학회 2023 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.127 No.-

To obtain a green, low-cost and efficient adsorbent, polydopamine (PDA) and b-cyclodextrin (b-CD) wereadopted to modify coal fly ash (CFA) to prepare polydopamine/b-cyclodextrin/coal fly ash composite(PDA/b-CD/CFA). The successful introduction of PDA and b-CD was proved by FT-IR, XRD and XPS. Theuranium extraction efficiency on PDA/b-CD/CFA reached 95.6% (pH = 5.0, T = 298 K, C0 = 10 mg/L andm/V = 0.2 g/L) and the whole adsorption process was perfectly fitted by the Pseudo-second-order model(R2 = 0.999), illustrating that uranium was extracted via chemisorption. The correlation coefficient R2 ofLangmuir model was 0.999, which was higher than other models, meaning that uranium extractionbehavior on PDA/b-CD/CFA was uniform monolayer adsorption. The maximum extraction capacity of uraniumon PDA/b-CD/CFA calculated by Langmuir model was 537.6 mg/g, which was larger than most ofreported adsorbents, indicating that PDA/b-CD/CFA was a potential candidate for uranium extractionfrom water environment. Moreover, PDA/b-CD/CFA performed excellent uranium extraction propertieswith the existence of coexisting ions and the desorption efficiency of uranium by PDA/b-CD/CFA washigher to 95.8% at the fifth cycles, fully suggesting that PDA/b-CD/CFA possessed good selectivity andcycle stability. Characterization results demonstrated that uranium was immobilized on PDA/b-CD/CFAthrough chelation, complexing action, electrostatic interaction and hydrogen bonding.

Gastric Cancer Stem Cells: Mechanisms and Therapeutic Approaches

        Yan Fu,Peizhun Du,Jing Zhao,Cheng’en Hu,Yunyun Qin,Guangjian Huang 연세대학교의과대학 2018 Yonsei medical journal Vol.59 No.10

Gastric cancer (GC) is the third leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. GC stem-like cells (GCSCs), with unlimitedself-renewal, differentiation, and tumor-regenerating capacities, contribute significantly to the refractory features of GC and havegained increasing attention for their role in GC drug resistance, relapse, and metastasis. Therapies targeting GCSCs seem to beone of the most promising methods to improve the outcomes of GC patients. Extensive investigations have attempted to outlinethe regulatory mechanisms in GCSCs and to develop GCSCs-targeting therapies with which to diminish GC drug resistance, metastasisand relapse. To the best of our knowledge, there is a lack of reviews summarizing these studies. In this review, we systematicallyrecapitulated findings regarding the regulatory mechanisms of GCSCs, as well as therapies that target GCSCs, hoping tosupport the development of prognostic biomarkers and GCSCs-targeting anticancer therapies in GC.

Enhanced plasma mineralization of adsorbed toluene by optimization the hybrid support of Ag–Mn catalysts

        Caihong Qin,Wenwen Bai,Pin Liu,Jiayu Huang,Hui Guo,Xuemin Huang,Xiaoqing Dang,Dongjie Yan 한국공업화학회 2019 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.80 No.-

The removal of toluene using a cycling adsorption and plasma mineralization process was investigated ina packed reactor. The supports of catalysts were optimized in regards to mineralization rate (MR), CO2selectivity (SCO2), and the production of by-products. The hybrid support g-Al2O3-HY showed a muchbetter MR in comparison to that of HY alone. Using hybrid HY-g-Al2O3 as supports, loading Ag–Mn ononly HY or g-Al2O3 had a better MR than loading Ag–Mn on both HY and g-Al2O3. The stability studyshowed that intermediates accumulated on the surface of the catalyst lead to its deterioration.

Two-component zeolite-alumina system for toluene trapping with subsequent nonthermal plasma mineralization

        Caihong Qin,Mengke Guo,Yang Zheng,Rui Yu,Jiayu Huang,Xiaoqing Dang,Dongjie Yan 한국공업화학회 2021 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.95 No.-

Two-component zeolite-alumina packed dielectric barrier discharge plasma was developed to deeplymineralize toluene. Compared with packing ZSM-5 and g-Al2O3 separately in layers, uniform mixing ofZSM-5 and g-Al2O3 was more conducive to the mineralization of adsorbed toluene in nonthermal plasma. When the mixing ratio of ZSM-5 to g-Al2O3 was 1:2, the mineralization rate reached 80% afterdischarging for 120 min. Ag supported on the catalyst surface significantly improved the selectivity ofCO2. Increased relative humidity had little effect on the mineralization of adsorbed toluene, butsignificantly reduced the byproducts O3 and N2O. The adsorption and plasma mineralizationperformance of Ag/ZSM-5-g-Al2O3 duringfive cycles of toluene adsorption was stable with only thepeak concentration of CO showing a slight upward trend. GC–MS, TG, and XPS characterization of freshand used catalysts revealed deactivation of Ag/ZSM-5-g-Al2O3 in terms of CO oxidation due tointermediate organic residues and decreased amounts of Ag+ and lattice oxygen on the support ZSM-5instead of g-Al2O3.

Evolution Behavior of M23C6 Carbides Under Different Hot Deformation Conditions in Alloy 602 CA

        Xiaoyu Qin,Xiaojun Yan,Dawei Huang,Xiaoyong Zhang,Mingjing Qi,Stephen Yue 대한금속·재료학회 2019 METALS AND MATERIALS International Vol.25 No.6

Alloy 602 CA is a M23C6carbides strengthened Nickel-based superalloy. In this alloy, M23C6is different from that found inother superalloys because of its high volume fraction, wide size distribution and distinct precipitation locations. To investigateM23C6evolution behaviors during hot deformation in Alloy 602 CA, a series of tests are carried out in this study. Thetest temperature ranges from 900 to 1100 °C and strain rate ranges from 0.001 to 0.1 s−1, with a true strain of 0.7. It is foundthat hot deformation of the material decreases the distance between carbides which leads merging happening to changethe morphology of primary M23C6. Secondary carbides mainly come from the dissolution of large primary carbides andprecipitate along grain boundaries and twin boundaries which impede dynamic recrystallization (DRX) from happening. Volume fractions of M23C6decrease from 900 to 1100 °C. At 900 °C and 1100 °C, the precipitation equilibrium is reachedin the preheating period before hot deformation and deformation only change the size distribution of carbides. 1000 °C isa transition temperature where the volume fraction decreases as strain rate increases. The temperature rise initiated by adiabaticheating has a great influence on this precipitation behavior.

Effect of Strain Rate on the Microstructure and Texture Evolution of the ZK60 Alloy Sheets

        Hongge Yan,Qin Wu,Jihua Chen,Weijun Xia,Min Song,Bin Su,Biao Huang 대한금속·재료학회 2022 METALS AND MATERIALS International Vol.28 No.3

The dynamic recrystallization (DRX), precipitation and texture evolution of the ZK60 alloy sheets rolled at 300 °C withdifferent strain rates were studied, and the effects of texture on the plasticity were also clarified. The DRX grain sizes at fivestrain rates (5–25 s−1) are 1.4 μm, 1.2 μm, 1.8 μm, 2.4 μm and 2.8 μm, respectively, while the DRX volume fractions are35.8%, 75.0%, 82.0%, 88.0% and 93.0%, respectively. The maximum intensity values of the (0002) texture are 7.91, 8.22,7.64, 5.76 and 5.34 at five strain rates, respectively. The strongest (0002) texture is observed at the strain rate of 10 s−1,which is related to the relatively low DRX volume fraction and the precipitation density. The tensile strength (UTS) and yieldstrength (YS) increases firstly and then decreases, while the elongation (EL) gradually increases with increasing the strainrate, suggesting that the plasticity of the alloy sheet can be improved by decreasing the basal texture intensity and increasingthe dispersion degree of the basal texture. The optimal comprehensive mechanical properties are obtained at the strain rateof 10 s−1, with UTS of 358 MPa, YS of 291 MPa and EL of 21.5%.

Toluene abatement through adsorption and plasma oxidation using ZSM-5 mixed with γ-Al2O3, TiO2 or BaTiO3

        Caihong Qin,Hui Guo,Pin Liu,Wenwen Bai,Jiayu Huang,Xuemin Huang,Xiaoqing Dang,Dongjie Yan 한국공업화학회 2018 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.63 No.-

Toluene abatement through adsorption and then plasma oxidation using ZSM-5, ZSM-5-γ-Al2O3 (Z-Al), ZSM-5-TiO2 (Z-Ti), ZSM-5-BaTiO3 (Z-Ba), and AgMn/ZSM-5-BaTiO3 (AgMn/Z-Ba) as adsorbents/catalysts was investigated. The efficiency of toluene removal reached ∼100% for all the tested adsorbents/catalysts. ZSM-5 had the lowest mineralization rate (MR) of ∼43%, while Z-Ba had the highest MR (88%) with an SCO2 of ∼80%. After loading AgMn onto Z-Ba, both the breakthrough capacity of toluene and SCO2 was increased, while the production of byproduct O3 and MR was decreased. The mixed materials created a higher amount of active species capable of deeply oxidizing adsorbed toluene.

        Feng, Dan-Qin,Huang, Bo,Li, Jing,Liu, Jing,Chen, Xi-Min,Xu, Yan-Mei,Chen, Xin,Zhang, Hai-Bin,Hu, Long-Hua,Wang, Xiao-Zhong Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2013 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.14 No.12

Background: Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) is a myeloproliferative disorder of hematopoietic stem cell scarrying the Philadelphia (Ph) chromosome and an oncogenic BCR-ABL1 fusion gene. The tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) of BCR-ABL1 kinase is a treatment of choice for control of CML. Objective: Recent studies have demonstrated that miRNAs within exosomes from cancer cells play crucial roles in initiation and progression. This study was performed to assess miRNAs within exosomes of K562 cells. Methods: miRNA microarray analysis of K562 cells and K562 cell-derived exosomes was conducted with the 6th generation miRCURYTM LNA Array (v.16.0). Gene ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) analyses were also carried out. GO terms and signaling pathways were categorized into 66 classes (including homophilic cell adhesion, negative regulation of apoptotic process, cell adhesion) and 26 signaling pathways (such as Wnt). Results: In exosomes, 49 miRNAs were up regulated as compared to K562 cells, and two of them were further confirmed by quantitative real-time PCR. There are differentially expressed miRNAs between K562 cell derived-exosomes and K562 cells. Conclusion: Selectively expressed miRNAs in exosomes may promote the development of CML via effects on interactions (e.g. adhesion) of CML cells with their microenvironment.
