        Performance Improvement in Single-Phase Electric Spring Control

        Two objectives can be pursued simultaneously with the ${\delta}$ control of a single-phase electric spring (ES). These objectives are the stabilization of the voltage across the critical load (CL) of a power system, and the achievement of a specific functionality similar to the pure compensation of reactive power or the correction of the power factor. However, existing control systems implementing the ${\delta}$ control do not cope with non-ideal operating conditions, such as line voltage distortions, and exhibit a somewhat sluggish regulation of the CL voltage. In an effort to improve both the steady-state and transient performances of an ES power system, this paper proposes implementing the ${\delta}$ control by means of a control system built up on the repetitive control and assisted by state feedback with pole assignment. This paper starts by analyzing the dynamics of an ES power system in terms of its poles and zeros. After that, a reduced second-order model of the dynamics is formulated to avoid a notch filter in the pole assignment. A repetitive control for an ES power system is then designed to meet the two above mentioned objectives. Experimental tests carried out on a laboratory setup demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed control system in significantly improving the ES power system performance, while reaching the two objectives. In particular, the tests outline the large mitigation of harmonics in the CL voltage under line voltage distortions and its fast stabilization action.

        Dual User Selection for Security Enhancement in Uplink Multiuser Systems

        <P>This letter proposes a novel dual user selection scheme for uplink transmission with multiple users, where a jamming user and a served user are jointly selected to improve the secrecy performance. Specifically, the jamming user transmits jamming signal with a certain rate, so that the base station (BS) can decode the jamming signal before detecting the secret information signal. By carefully selecting the jamming user and the served user, it makes the eavesdropper to decode the jamming signal with a low probability; meanwhile the BS can achieve a high receive signal-to-noise ratio. Therefore, the uplink transmission achieves the dual secrecy improvement by jamming and scheduling. It is shown that the proposed scheme can significantly improve the security of the uplink transmission.</P>

        Dynamic Spectrum Sharing for Hybrid Access in OFDMA-Based Cognitive Femtocell Networks

        <P>Cognitive femtocell has emerged as one of the promising ways to solve the indoor coverage and spectrum shortage problems in cellular networks. However, it is a challenge to motivate both macro base station ( <TEX>$\text{MBS}$</TEX>) and femtocell access points ( <TEX>$\text{FAPs}$</TEX>) to adopt this hybrid access policy. In this paper, we propose a systematic dynamic spectrum sharing framework for hybrid access in orthogonal frequency-division multiple-access-based cognitive macro-femtocell networks. In this framework, the <TEX>$\text{MBS}$</TEX> offloads some macro user equipments ( <TEX>$\text{MUEs}$</TEX>) to <TEX>$\text{FAP}$</TEX> to improve the transmission performance and save energy. In return, the MBS leases a portion of its spectrum to <TEX>$\text{FAP}$</TEX>. Then, the <TEX>$\text{FAP}$</TEX> can use a part of spectrum for its own transmission and use another part to serve <TEX>$\text{MUEs}$</TEX>. We design an auction-based approach where each <TEX>$\text{FAP}$</TEX> receives additional <TEX>$\text{MUE}$</TEX> as bidders, while MBS acts as auctioneer. We formulate the dynamic resource sharing as a sum utility maximization problem. Numerical results demonstrate that both the macro and femtocell could get benefit from our framework.</P>

        Prognostic value of preoperative neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio in histological variants of non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer

        Purpose: Many studies identified that the preoperative neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (PNLR) was associated with patient prognosis in non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC). We hypothesized that PNLR could be prognostic in patients with histological variants of NMIBC (VH-NMIBC). Materials and Methods: This retrospective study included patients with VH-NMIBC admitted at our center between January 2009 and May 2019. The best cut-off value of NLR was measured by the receiver operating characteristic curve and Youden index. The Kaplan-Meier method and Cox proportional hazard regression models were employed to evaluate the association between PNLR and disease prognosis, including recurrence-free survival (RFS), progression-free survival (PFS), cancer-specific survival (CSS), and overall survival (OS). Results: A total of 243 patients with VH-NMIBC were enrolled in our study. According to the Kaplan-Meier method results, patients with PNLR ≥2.2 were associated with poor RFS (p<0.001), PFS (p<0.001), CSS (p<0.001), and OS (p<0.001). Multivariable analyses indicated that PNLR ≥ 2.2 was an independent prognostic factor of RFS (hazard ratio [HR], 2.11; 95% confidence interval [CI, 1.57–1.83; p<0.001), PFS (HR, 2.34; 95% CI, 1.70–3.21; p<0.001), CCS (HR, 2.87; 95% CI, 1.96–4.18; p< 0.001), and OS (HR, 2.83; 95% CI, 1.96–4.07; p<0.001). Conclusions: This study identified that PNLR ≥2.2 was usually associated with a poor prognosis for patients with VH-NMIBC.

        ZNF552, a novel human KRAB/C2H2 zinc finger protein, inhibits AP-1- and SRE-mediated transcriptional activity

        In this study, we report the identification and characterization of a novel C2H2 zinc finger protein, ZNF552, from a human embryonic heart cDNA library. ZNF552 is composed of three exons and two introns and maps to chromosome 19q13.43. The cDNA of ZNF552 is 2.3 kb, encoding 407 amino acids with an amino-terminal KRAB domain and seven carboxyl-terminal C2H2 zinc finger motifs in the nucleus and cytoplasm. Northern blotting analysis indicated that a 2.3 kb transcript specific for ZNF552 was expressed in liver, lung, spleen, testis and kidney, especially with a higher level in the lung and testis in human adult tissues. Reporter gene assays showed that ZNF552 was a transcriptional repressor, and overexpression of ZNF552 in the COS-7 cells inhibited the transcriptional activities of AP-1 and SRE, which could be relieved through RNAi analysis. Deletion studies showed that the KRAB domain of ZNF552 may be involved in this inhibition. [BMB reports 2010; 43(3): 193-198]

        Nonlinear optical properties of silver colloidal solution by in situ synthesis technique

        The silver colloidal solutions were prepared by in situ synthesis technique in the presence of the Polymethyl Methacrylate, which was polymerized by reversible addition-fragmentation transfer. The UV–VIS spectra and transmission electron microscopy had shown the formation of sphere silver nanoparticles with average size of 10 nm. Nonlinear optical properties as a function of silver concentration were studied using Z-scan technique with 13 ns pulse duration at 532 nm. The optical nonlinearity enhancement was observed by increasing the concentration. The third-order nonlinear susceptibility v(3) was measured to 1.045 · 1011 esu when the concentration was 2.13 mg/ml. Besides, the sample was founded to exhibit a shift from saturable absorption to reverse saturable absorption at higher incident laser energy. The reverse saturable absorption was observed to be responsible for the optical limiting characteristics in our experiments. 2007 Published by Elsevier B.V.         Combined effect of Fe2O3 and Cr2O3 on the structure and properties of glass-ceramics prepared from Baotou steel blast furnace slag

        CaO-MgO-Al2O3-SiO2 glass-ceramics were successfully prepared using Baotou Steel BFS as the raw materials, choosing Fe2O3and Cr2O3 as nucleating agents. This paper focused on analyzing the combined effect of Fe2O3 and Cr2O3 on the structure andproperties of the glass-ceramics. Experimental results showed that the crystallization mechanism of glass-ceramics convertedsurface crystallization into bulk crystallization and the main crystalline phase of glass-ceramics changed gradually from augiteto diopside with the decrease of Fe2O3/Cr2O3 ratios. Therefore, an appropriate ratio of Fe2O3/Cr2O3 can act as nuclei forcrystallization of augite with integrated interlocking crystal structure and the physicochemical properties of glass-ceramic canbe improved. Consequently, the fracture mode of glass-ceramic was changed from intercrystalline to mixed transcrystalline/intercrystalline and therefore the average crack length can be shortened. Glass-ceramic with Fe2O3/Cr2O3 ratio of 1 had a highbending strength of 138.93 MPa, Vickers hardness of 7.51 GPa and acid resistance of 97.75%.
