        Responses of Soil Bacterial and Fungal Communities to Organic and Conventional Farming Systems in East China

        Organic farming is considered an effective form of sustainable agricultural management. However, understanding of soil microbial diversity and composition under long-term organic and conventional farming is still limited and controversial. In this study, the Illumina MiSeq platform was applied to investigate the responses of soil bacterial and fungal diversity and compositions to organic farming (OF) and improved conventional farming (CF, applied straw retention) in the rice-wheat rotation system. The results highlighted that the alpha diversity of microbial communities did not differ significantly, except for higher bacterial diversity under OF. However, there were significant differences in the compositions of the soil bacterial and fungal communities between organic and conventional farming. Under our experimental conditions, through the ecological functional analysis of significant different or unique bacterial and fungal taxonomic members at the phyla and genus level, OF enhanced nitrogen, sulfur, phosphorus and carbon dynamic cycling in soil with the presence of Nodosilinea, Nitrospira, LCP-6, HB118, Lyngbya, GOUTA19, Mesorhizobium, Sandaracinobacter, Syntrophobacter and Sphingosinicella, and has the potential to strengthen soil metabolic ability with Novosphingobium. On the other hand, CF increased the intensity of nitrogen cycling with Ardenscatena, KD1-23, Iamia, Nitrosovibrio and Devosia, but enriched several pathogen fungal members, including Coniochaeta, Corallomycetella, Cyclaneusma, Cystostereum, Fistulina, Curvularia and Dissoconium.

        A COST-EFFECTIVE MAGNETIC PHOTOCATALYST PALYGORSKITE – TiO 2 – Fe x O y WITH EXCELLENT PERFORMANCE FOR DYE PHOTODEGRADATION UNDER VISIBLE LIGHT

        Palygorskite (denoted as Pal) was used as an economical carrier of hybrid photocatalystTiO 2 – FexOy via an in situ depositing technique (marked as Pal – TiO 2 – FexOy). The samples werecharacterized by X-ray di®raction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), brunner-emmet-teller (BET) measurements, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and UV-Vis di®usere°ectance spectra measurements. Results showed that TiO 2 – FexOy composite particles withaverage size of about 10 nm were loaded onto the Pal ¯bers' surface. FexOy acted not only asmagnetic source but also took part in the formation of TiO 2 – FexOy heterojunction structure, which resulted in the obvious absorption in visible light region for the obtained Pal – TiO 2 – FexOy com-posite photocatalyst. The obtained Pal – TiO 2 – FexOy shows excellent photocatalytic activity to-ward photodegradation of Methyl orange (MO) under visible light irradiation and the degradationratio reached 94% within 180 min. Moreover, Pal – TiO 2 – FexOy could be readily recovered from thereaction solution by the magnet. Possible mechanism for the enhancement was also proposed.

        Acylation of salicylamide to 5-acetylsalicylamide using ionic liquids as dual catalyst and solvent

        The Lewis acidic ionic liquids, 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium chloroaluminate ([BMIM]Cl-nAlCl3) and Nbutylpyridinium chloroaluminate ([BPy]Cl-nAlCl3), were used as both catalyst and solvent in Friedel–Crafts acylation of salicylamide with acetyl chloride to 5-acetylsalicylamide. The Lewis acidic ionic liquids, substituting for the conventional carcinogenic nitrobenzene solvent and anhydrous AlCl3catalyst, showed excellent catalytic activity in the acylation of salicylamide to 5-acetylsalicylamide. When [BMIM]Cl-2AlCl3 was used as the catalyst, the yield of 5-acetylsalicylamide reached 81.3%. When [BPy]-2AlCl3 was used as the catalyst, the maximum yield of 5-acetylsalicylamide was 89.2%. The content of AlCl3 and the structure of the cations in the ionic liquids had synergistic effect on the acylation reaction. 2010 The Korean Society of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry.         EGFR-TKI Combined with Pemetrexed versus EGFR-TKI Monotherapy in Advanced EGFR-Mutated NSCLC: A Prospective, Randomized, Exploratory Study

        Purpose We aimed to evaluate whether the addition of pemetrexed is effective in improving progression-free survival (PFS) in epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR)–mutated patients with or without concomitant alterations. Materials and Methods This multicenter clinical trial was conducted in China from June 15, 2018, to May 31, 2019. A total of 92 non–small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients harboring EGFR-sensitive mutations were included and divided into concomitant and non-concomitant groups. Patients in each group were randomly treated with EGFR–tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) monotherapy or EGFR-TKI combined with pemetrexed in a ratio of 1:1. PFS was recorded as the primary endpoint. Results The overall median PFS of this cohort was 10.1 months. There were no significant differences in PFS between patients with and without concomitant and between patients received TKI monotherapy and TKI combined with pemetrexed (p=0.210 and p=0.085, respectively). Stratification analysis indicated that patients received TKI monotherapy had a significantly longer PFS in non-concomitant group than that in concomitant group (p=0.002). In concomitant group, patients received TKI combined with pemetrexed had a significantly longer PFS than patients received TKI monotherapy (p=0.013). Molecular dynamic analysis showed rapidly emerging EGFR T790M in patients received TKI monotherapy. EGFR mutation abundance decreased in patients received TKI combined chemotherapy, which supports better efficacy for a TKI combined chemotherapy as compared to TKI monotherapy. A good correlation between therapeutic efficacy and a change in circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) status was found in 66% of patients, supporting the guiding role of ctDNA minimal residual disease (MRD) in NSCLC treatment. Conclusion EGFR-TKI monotherapy is applicable to EGFR-sensitive patients without concomitant alterations, while a TKI combined chemotherapy is applicable to EGFR-sensitive patients with concomitant alterations. CtDNA MRD may be a potential biomarker for predicting therapeutic efficacy.

        Endophytic Fungus Trichothecium roseum LZ93 Antagonizing Pathogenic Fungi In Vitro and Its Secondary Metabolites

        The endophytic fungus Trichothecium roseum LZ93 from Maytenus hookeri was found to antagonize other pathogenic fungi in vitro. To identify which compound contributed substantially to the antagonism, we fermented the strain and purified its fermentation products. Eleven compounds were obtained, including two trichothecenes, five rosenonolactones, two cardiotonic cyclodepsipeptides, and two sterols. Compound 11β-hydroxyrosenonolactone (1) was assigned according to 1D and 2D-NMR data for the first time. At the same time, the 1H and 13C-NMR assignments for 6β-hydroxyrosenonolactone (2) were revised. Of all of them, only trichothecin (6) showed strong antifungal activity. Based on our observations of the antagonistic activity and the other experimental results, we suggest that the antifungal compound trichothecin was the main contributor to the antagonistic action of T. roseum LZ93.

        Up-regulation of miR-106a targets LIMK1 and contributes to cognitive impairment induced by isoflurane anesthesia in mice

        Background Postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD) had a great relationship with anesthesia during surgery, and miRNAs have been found involved in anesthesia-induced cognitive impairment. Objective To explore the role and potential mechanism of miR-106a in isoflurane anesthesia-induced cognitive impairment. Methods Adult male mice were treated with isoflurane anesthesia; Morris water maze tests and fear conditioning tests were performed; and expression levels of miR-106a and LIMK1 were determined by quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) and western blot. Dual luciferase reporter assay was used to determine the binding of miR-106a and 3’UTR of LIMK1. To verify the role of miR-106a, antagomir of miR-106a were intrahippocampally injected. Finally, expression of BCL2 apoptosis regulator (Bcl-2), LIM domain kinase 1 (LIMK1), BCL2-associated X, apoptosis regulator (Bax) and cleaved caspase3 was determined by western blot. Results In isoflurane anesthesia-treated group (IS), the percentage of target quadrant dwell time was significantly lower and the escape latency was significantly higher than in the control group (sham), and the freezing behavior of IS was significantly less in contextual fear conditioning tests. Expression levels of miR-106a were increased and those of LIMK1 were decreased in response to IS. Dual luciferase reporter assay showed that miR-106a could bind with the 3’UTR of LIMK1. Decreased expression levels of miR-106a improved the cognitive impairment of the mice treated with isoflurane. Intrahippocampally injected antagomir of miR-106a also increased LIMK1 and Bcl-2 levels, decreased the BAX and cleaved caspase3 expression levels in the mice treated with isoflurane. Conclusion Decrease of LIMK1 expression by miR-106a played an important role in isoflurane anesthesia-induced cognitive impairment.

        Oxidation of cyclopentene catalyzed by phosphotungstic quaternary ammonium salt catalysts

        A series of phosphotungstic quaternary ammonium salts, Q3 (PW12O40) and Q3(PW4O16) [Q = (C5H5)N+(C16H33), (C16H33)N+(CH3)3, (C4H9)4N+, and (CH3)4N+], were used as the catalysts in oxidation of cyclopentene. The catalysts [(C5H5)N(C16H33)]3(PW4O16) and [(C16H33)N(CH3)3]3(PW4O16) showed high catalytic activity in the selective oxidation of cyclopentene while using H2O2 (50%) as an oxidant and 2-propanol as a solvent. The oxidation products mainly consisted of glutaraldehyde, cis-1,2-cyclopentanediol and trans-1,2-cyclopentanediol. The above-mentioned two catalysts were dissolved completely in the reaction medium during the catalysis process and precipitated themselves from the reaction system after reaction, showing the characteristics of reaction-controlled phase-transfer catalysis. The types of quaternary ammonium cations and the phosphotungstic anions in phosphotungstic quaternary ammonium salts affected catalytic activity.

        Investigation of bipolar matrix based mixed host in highly efficient green delayed fluorescence organic light-emitting diodes

        The mixed cohosts of electron transport host (E-host): 4,40-bis(carbazol-9-yl)biphenyl (CBP) have been comparatively investigated for an efficient green fluorescent organic light emitting diode (OLED) doped with a thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) emitter (4s,6s)-2,4,5,6-tetra(9H-carbazol-9-yl)isophthalonitrile (4CzIPN). The E-host:CBP systems significantly enhance the electroluminescent (EL) properties. After doping Ehost, the lifetime of the emissive layer decreases and the surface becomes smoother, together with the impedance decreases for one magnitude and the hole-injection depresses. The charge balance and improved interface both contribute to the EL performance enhancement. Here we develop a universal mixed host system suitable to most of emitters.

        Theoretical Analysis of Laser-Locked Spectroscopy Employing a Confocal Fabry-Perot Cavity

        A theoretical analysis of laser-locked enhanced absorption spectroscopy employing a confocal Fary-Perot cavity (CFPC) is presented. The signal-to-noise ratio and the minimum detectable absorbance, which are limited by either the shot noise or the amplitude noise due to the loose laser lock loop, are also discussed in detail. The results show that the effective absorption path length of a CFPC configuration is the same as that of the conventional nonconfocal Fary-Perot cavity configuration, with the CFPC configuration being more convenient to align without deliberate mode matching. Thus, the CFPC configuration should greatly simplify the complications of conventional laser-locked spectroscopy.
