U-phosphate biomineralization induced by Bacillus sp. dw-2 in the presence of organic acids

        Hong Tu,Guoyuan Yuan,Changsong Zhao,Jun Liu,Feize Li,Jijun Yang,Jiali Liao,Yuanyou Yang,Ning Liu 한국원자력학회 2019 Nuclear Engineering and Technology Vol.51 No.5

In this paper, we systematically investigated the influence of some selected ligands on the U-phosphateprecipitation induced by soil bacteria. These organics are widely ranging from acetate, lactate, salicylateand citrate to oxalate. The results revealed that uranium could be biomineralized on bacteria asUO2HPO4$4H2O or (UO2)3(PO4)2$4H2O. The influence of organic ligands on the biomineralization hadclear-cut correlations with its complexation abilities to uranyl. It was clearly found that the U-phosphatebiomineralization was affected noticeably by the strong ligands (oxalate and citrate). Further studydiscovered that when the organic ligands were uncompetitive with biotic PO4 3 for uranyl, the transformationof uranyl species from b-UO2(OH)2 colloidal particles to free UO2 2 þ-ligands ions could facilitatethe U-phosphate biomineralization. However, when the organic ligands competed with biotic PO4 3 foruranyl, the U-phosphate biomineralization were inhibited. Our results highlight the importance ofcomplex interactions of strong organic ligands with uranyl during the bacterial precipitation of UePcompounds and thus for the mobilization and immobilization of radio-nuclides in the nature.

Effects of quercetin and coated sodium butyrate dietary supplementation in diquat-challenged pullets

        Zhou Ning,Tian Yong,Liu Wenchao,Tu Bingjiang,Gu Tiantian,Xu Wenwu,Zou Kang,Lu Li Zhi 아세아·태평양축산학회 2022 Animal Bioscience Vol.35 No.9

Objective: This study was designed to investigate the hypothesis that dietary quercetin (QUE) and coated sodium butyrate (SB) supplementation alleviate oxidative stress in the small intestine of diquat (DIQ)-challenged pullets. Methods: A total of 200 13-week-old pullets were divided into four groups: the control group (CON), the DIQ group, the QUE group, and the coated SB group, and injected intraperitoneally with either saline (CON) or diquat (DIQ, QUE, and SB) to induce oxidative stress on day 0. Results: On the first day, the malondialdehyde and superoxide dismutase (SOD) concentrations in the SB group were significantly different from those in the DIQ and QUE groups (p<0.05), and dietary supplementation with SB increased serum glutathione peroxidase (GSH-PX) levels compared with the DIQ group (p<0.05). Quercetin and SB increased the levels of CLAUDIN-1 and zonula occludens-1 (ZO-1) in the jejunum. On the tenth day of treatment, QUE attenuated the decrease in GSH-PX levels compared to those of the CON group (p<0.05), while SB increased SOD, GSH-PX, and total antioxidant capacity levels compared to those of the DIQ group. Nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (NRF2) and heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) mRNA levels in the QUE and SB groups increased (p<0.05) and CLAUDIN-1 mRNA levels in the QUE and SB groups were upregulated compared to those in the DIQ group ileum tissue. Conclusion: Supplementation of QUE and SB demonstrated the ability to relieve oxidative stress in pullets post DIQ-injection with a time-dependent manner and QUE and SB may be potential antioxidant additives for relieving oxidative stress and protecting the intestinal barrier of pullets. Relationship between 18F-FDG PET/CT Semi-Quantitative Parameters and International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer, American Thoracic Society/European Respiratory Society Classification in Lung Adenocarcinomas

        Bu Lihong,Tu Ning,Wang Ke,Zhou Ying,Xie Xinli,Han Xingmin,Lin Huiqin,Feng Hongyan 대한영상의학회 2022 Korean Journal of Radiology Vol.23 No.1

Objective: To investigate the relationship between 18F-FDG PET/CT semi-quantitative parameters and the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer, American Thoracic Society/European Respiratory Society (IASLC/ATS/ERS) histopathologic classification, including histological subtypes, proliferation activity, and somatic mutations. Materials and Methods: This retrospective study included 419 patients (150 males, 269 females; median age, 59.0 years; age range, 23.0–84.0 years) who had undergone surgical removal of stage IA–IIIA lung adenocarcinoma and had preoperative PET/CT data of lung tumors. The maximum standardized uptake values (SUVmax), background-subtracted volume (BSV), and background-subtracted lesion activity (BSL) derived from PET/CT were measured. The IASLC/ATS/ERS subtypes, Ki67 score, and epidermal growth factor/anaplastic lymphoma kinase (EGFR/ALK) mutation status were evaluated. The PET/CT semiquantitative parameters were compared between the tumor subtypes using the Mann–Whitney U test or the Kruskal–Wallis test. The optimum cutoff values of the PET/CT semi-quantitative parameters for distinguishing the IASLC/ATS/ERS subtypes were calculated using receiver operating characteristic curve analysis. The correlation between the PET/CT semi-quantitative parameters and pathological parameters was analyzed using Spearman’s correlation. Statistical significance was set at p < 0.05. Results: SUVmax, BSV, and BSL values were significantly higher in invasive adenocarcinoma (IA) than in minimally IA (MIA), and the values were higher in MIA than in adenocarcinoma in situ (AIS) (all p < 0.05). Remarkably, an SUVmax of 0.90 and a BSL of 3.62 were shown to be the optimal cutoff values for differentiating MIA from AIS, manifesting as pure ground-glass nodules with 100% sensitivity and specificity. Metabolic-volumetric parameters (BSV and BSL) were better potential independent factors than metabolic parameters (SUVmax) in differentiating growth patterns. SUVmax and BSL, rather than BSV, were strongly or moderately correlated with Ki67 in most subtypes, except for the micropapillary and solid predominant groups. PET/CT parameters were not correlated with EGFR/ALK mutation status. Conclusion: As noninvasive surrogates, preoperative PET/CT semi-quantitative parameters could imply IASLC/ATS/ERS subtypes and Ki67 index and thus may contribute to improved management of precise surgery and postoperative adjuvant therapy.

Synthesis and application of zirconium phosphate mesoporous coordination polymer for effective removal of Co(II) from aqueous solutions

        Zeng Yang,Yuan Guoyuan,Lan Tu,Li Feize,Yang Jijun,Liao Jiali,Yang Yuanyou,Liu Ning 한국원자력학회 2022 Nuclear Engineering and Technology Vol.54 No.11

A kind of zirconium phosphate mesoporous coordination polymer Zr-EDTMPA was successfully synthesized and characterized using XRD, FTIR, TGA, EA, SEMeEDS, and N2 sorption-desorption measurements. The prepared Zr-EDTMPA was first employed for the removal of Co(II) from an aqueous solution, and the effects of pH, contact time, temperature, initial Co(II) concentration, reusability, and sorption mechanism were systematically investigated. The results showed that the Zr-EDTMPA is a zirconium phosphate complex formed by the coordination of EDTMPA to Zr in a molar ratio of 1:1. The sorption of Co(II) by Zr-EDTMPA was a pH-dependent, spontaneous and endothermic process, which was better fitted to the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and Langmuir isotherm model. The Zr-EDTMPA was demonstrated to have excellent reusability and presented a high sorption capacity of 73.0 mgg-1 for Co(II) at pH 8.0. The sorption mechanism was mainly attributed to the strong coordination between cobalt and the untapped hydroxyl functional groups on Zr-EDTMPA, which was confirmed by XPS spectra. Therefore, as a candidate sorbent with high sorption capacity and excellent reusability, ZrEDTMPA has a great potential for the removal of Co(II) from aqueous solutions.

Entangling gates for trapped-ion quantum computation and quantum simulation

        Cai Zhengyang,Luan Chun -Yang,Ou Lingfeng,Tu Hengchao,Yin Zihan,Zhang Jing -Ning,Kim Kihwan 한국물리학회 2023 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.82 No.9

The trapped-ion system has been a leading platform for practical quantum computation and quantum simulation since the frst scheme of a quantum gate was proposed by Cirac and Zoller (Phys Rev Lett 74:4091, 1995). Quantum gates with trapped ions have shown the highest fdelity among all physical platforms. Recently, sophisticated schemes of quantum gates such as amplitude, phase, frequency modulation, or multi-frequency application, have been developed to make the gates fast, robust to many types of imperfections, and applicable to multiple qubits. Here, we review the basic principle and recent development of quantum gates with trapped ions.

Electromigration Reliability of Flip-Chip Bonded Sn-3.5Ag-0.5Cu Solder Bumps

최재훈,전성우,정부양,오태성,King-Ning Tu,원혜진 한국물리학회 2005 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.47 No.3

Electromigration reliability of ip-chip bonded Sn-3.5Ag-0.5Cu solder bumps on 10-m-thick Cu UBM and 0.4-m Ni(V)/0.4-m Cu UBM was characterized by measuring mean-time-to-failure with current densities of 3 4 104 A/cm2 at 130 185 C. Microstructural analysis of the solder bumps clearly revealed that electromigration failure of the solder bumps occurred with UBM consumption and void formation at the cathode side of the solder bump. Activation energies for solder electromigration, evaluated with the calibrated test temperature which was obtained by adding the temperature increment by Joule heating to the apparent test temperature, were 0.9 eV/atom on 10-m-thick Cu UBM and 1.3 eV/atom on 0.4-m Ni(V)/0.4-m Cu UBM at current densities of 3 4 104 A/cm2.

Radiation stability and radiolysis mechanism of hydroxyurea in HNO3 solution: Alpha, beta, and gamma irradiations

        Qin Yilin,Liao Wei,Lan Tu,Li Fengzhen,Li Feize,Yang Jijun,Liao Jiali,Yang Yuanyou,Liu Ning 한국원자력학회 2022 Nuclear Engineering and Technology Vol.54 No.12

Hydroxyurea (HU) is a novel salt-free reductant used potentially for the separation of U/Pu in the advanced PUREX process. In this work, the radiation stability of HU were systematically investigated in solution by examining the effects of the type of rays (a, b, and g irradiations), the absorbed dose (10 e50 kGy), and the HNO3 concentration (0e3 mol L1 ). The influence degree on HU radiolysis rates followed the order of the absorbed dose > the ray type > the HNO3 concentration, but the latter two had moderate effects on HU radiolysis products where NH4 þ and NO2 were found to be the most abundant ones, suggesting that the differences of a, b, and g rays should be considered in the study of irradiation effects. The radiolysis mechanism was explored using density functional theory (DFT) calculations, and it proposed the dominant radiolysis paths of HU, indicating that the radiolysis of HU was mainly a free radical reaction among $H, eaq e , H2O, intermediates, and the radiolytic free radical fragments of HU. The results reported here provide valuable insights into the mechanistic understanding of HU radiolysis under a, b, and g irradiations and reliable data support for the application of HU in the reprocessing of spent fuel.

      • Fused Polypeptide with DEF Induces Apoptosis of Lung Adenocarcinoma Cells

        Liang, Ai-Ling,Zhang, Ting-Ting,Zhou, Ning,Huang, Di-Nan,Liu, Xin-Guang,Liu, Yong-Jun,Tu, Zhi-Guang Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2013 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.14 No.12

To analyze the effects of a new unknown peptide DEF on the growth of tumor cells, a fused polypeptide TAT-DV1-DEF was designed and synthesized. The lung adenocarcinoma cell line GLC-82 treated with TAT-DV1-DEF was analyzed with a cell counting kit 8, and the location of polypeptides in cells was observed under laser confocal microscopy. The efficiency of polypeptide transfection and changes in nuclear morphology were analyzed by flow cytometry and fluorescence microscopy, respectively. Finally, the mechanism of tumor cell growth inhibition was evaluated by Western blotting. We found that TAT-DV1-DEF could significantly inhibit the growth of the lung adenocarcinoma cell line GLC-82, but not the normal human embryonic kidney cell line HEK-293. Polypeptides were found to be mostly localized in the cytoplasm and some mitochondria. The efficiency of polypeptide transfection in the two cell types was approximately 99%. Apoptotic nuclei were observed under fluorescence microscopy upon treatment with polypeptides and DAPI staining. Western blot analyses indicated that the polypeptide inhibition of tumor cell growth was apoptosis dependent. In the present study, we demonstrated that fused polypeptides could induce apoptosis of the lung adenocarcinoma cell line GLC-82, indicating that the new unknown peptide DEF has antitumor effects.
