        Photo-induced antifouling polyvinylidene fluoride ultrafiltration membrane driven by weak visible light

        To enhance the performance of ultrafiltration membranes, a polyvinylidenefluoride (PVDF) blendingmembrane with photo-induced antifouling performance was fabricated. La3+- and Yb3+-doped titaniumdioxide-reduced graphene oxide (TiO2-RGO) composites were initially prepared by adsorption-phasesynthesis coupled with solvothermal reduction. The doped TiO2-RGO composites were then blendedwith the PVDF materials. The results showed that adding well-distributed, doped, and hydrophilic TiO2-RGO improved the pore structures and surface polarity of the blending membranes, thus improving theirpermeation and antifouling performance. After addition of doped TiO2-RGO with photocatalytic activity,the antifouling performance of the resulting blending membranes increased under weak visible-lightirradiation. The agglomerated doped TiO2-RGO in the polymeric matrix reduced the hydrophilicity andporosity of the resulting membranes, thereby decreasing their water permeability and antifoulingperformance. Solvothermal reduction through ethylene glycol also improved the photocatalytic activityof Yb-doped TiO2-RGO and enhanced the affinity between doped TiO2-RGO and PVDF. These two effectssimultaneously increased the water permeability and photo-induced antifouling performance of theblending membranes. Theflux recovery rate of the blending membranes containing Yb-doped TiO2-RGOtreated by ethylene glycol exceeded 69% after illumination. In particular, theflux recovery rate ofmembranes reached about 96% after illumination coupling with washing.

        Effect of HPFRCC on Seismic Performance of Beam-Column-Slab Subassembly

        High performance fiber reinforced cementitious composites (HPFRCC) material exhibits strain-hardening and multiple cracking behaviors. Using HPFRCC in the reinforced concrete (RC) frame is considered to improve the seismic performance and damage mechanism of structure. Three beam-column-slab subassemblies were tested under cyclic loading, and eight frame models were simulation by ABAQUS. In this paper, the effect of substitution of concretewith HPFRCC on the seismic performance and damage mechanism of subassemblies was investigated. According to the test results, the lateral bearing capacity and deformability of beam-column-slab subassemblies increased by above 10% through using the HPFRCC material in the expected damage positions. The shear resistance of the joint zone with HPFRCC material increased by 1.6%, the shear deformation of the joint zone decreased by 7.9%. And the contribution of slab bars to the beam flexural bearing strength also decreased for that the yielding range and the strain amplitude of slab bars are limited through using HPFRCC material. Consequently, the subassemblies were prone to the “strong column - weak beam” damage mechanism to using HPFRCC material in the expected damage positions.

        Effects of different culture systems on the culture of buffalo (Bubalus bubalis) spermatogonia stem cell-like cells in vitro

        Currently, the systems for culturing buffalo spermatogonial stem cells (SSCs) in vitro are varied, and their effects are still inconclusive. In this study, we compared the effects of culture systems with undefined (foetal bovine serum) and defined (KnockOut Serum Replacement) materials on the in vitro culture of buffalo SSC-like cells. Significantly more DDX4- and UCHL1-positive cells (cultured for 2 days at passage 2) were observed in the defined materials culture system than in the undefined materials system (p < 0.01), and these cells were maintained for a longer period than those in the culture system with undefined materials (10 days vs. 6 days). Furthermore, NANOS2 (p < 0.05), DDX4 (p < 0.01) and UCHL1 (p < 0.05) were expressed at significantly higher levels in the culture system with defined materials than in that with undefined materials. Induction with retinoic acid was used to verify that the cultured cells maintained SSC characteristics, revealing an SCP3+ subset in the cells cultured in the defined materials system. The expression levels of Stra8 (p < 0.05) and Rec8 (p < 0.01) were significantly increased, and the expression levels of ZBTB16 (p < 0.01) and DDX4 (p < 0.05) were significantly decreased. These findings provided a clearer research platform for exploring the mechanism of buffalo SSCs in vitro.

        Elimination of Mother-to-Infant Transmission of Hepatitis B Virus: 35 Years of Experience

        Chronic hepatitis B viral (HBV) infection remains a major health threat, especially in high-prevalence areas. Most infants infected by mother-to-infant HBV transmission become chronic carriers. In Taiwan, many important preventive interventions have been implemented to block the perinatal transmission of HBV in the past 35 years. The first nationwide universal HBV vaccination program was launched in Taiwan in July 1984. The three-dose HBV vaccine completion rate reached 98.1% in 2018. The prevalence of Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) decreased from 9.8% in pre-vaccinated period in 1984 to 0.5% in the vaccinated cohort in 2014. The incidence of hepatocellular carcinoma in children aged 6-9 years significantly declined from 0.52 to 0.13 per 100,000 children born before and after 1984, respectively. Furthermore, we have performed a maternal HBV screening program during pregnancy since 1984, with the screening rate peaked at 93% in 2012. The HBsAg- and HBeAg-seropositive rate in pregnant women declined from 13.4% and 6.4% in 1984-1985 to 5.9% and 1.0% in 2016, respectively. To closely control perinatal HBV infection, we have administered hepatitis B immunoglobulin immediately after birth and checked the serum level of HBsAg and anti-HBs in high-risk babies born to HBsAg-seropositive mothers, irrespective of their HBeAg status, since July 2019. We have also adopted short-term antiviral treatments such as tenofovir 300 mg daily in the third trimester for highly viremic mothers and reduced the perinatal infection rates from 10.7 to 1.5%. Through all these efforts, we expect to meet the global goal of eliminating HBV infection by 2030.

        Photodynamic rechargeable nanofibrous membranes with high-efficient antibacterial/antiviral properties for medical protection

        Drug-resistant pathogens pose significant pressures and challenges for medical protective materials withhighly effective antibacterial/antiviral and rechargeable properties. In this study, a clean, rechargeablephotodynamic antibacterial/antiviral strategy was proposed after nanofibrous membranes were graftedby photosensitive 4,4, -terephthalic di-phthalic anhydride (TDPA) and natural polyphenol chlorogenicacid (CA) antibacterial agent. The resultant membrane released the maximumOH and H2O2 capacitiesof 6188.56 lg/g and 842.00 lg/g, respectively, exhibited the storage antibacterial stability even storedfor 30 days in the dark. After seven quenching, the charging capacity retained more than 70% of the original. The antibacterial efficiency of the membrane showed more than 99%. In addition, the antibacterialefficiency decreased by only 3% after water washing. Moreover, it demonstrated an excellent antiviralproperty whose antiviral activity against H3N2 achieved 3.6 PFU/mL. This daylight-driven rechargeablenanofibrous membrane can be used to develop reusable medical protective materials with rechargeableantibacterial and antiviral efficiency.

        Effect of Tea on Resistance to Type 2 Diabetes

        Insulinotropic hormone glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) degrades rapidly under the catalytic of dipeptidyl peptidase IV (DPP-IV). Consequently, DPP-IV which is widely expressed in small intestine takes a key role in the prevention and treatment of Type 2 Diabetes. To identify the capability of anti-type 2 diabetes by tea, the inhibition of different types of Chinese teas on DPP-IV was tested. The inhibitory ratio of Buddha Longjing is 31.74%, Tangji Gaoshan Tea is 62.08% (p < 0.01), Yunnan black tea is 66.29% (p < 0.01), Lapsang souchon is 76.40% (p <0.01), Dahongpao is 62.08% (p < 0.01), Tieguanyin is 66.85% (p < 0.01), Moganhuangya is 65.45% (p < 0.01),Huoshanhuangya is 50.56% (p < 0.05).

        The Influence of Rapid Thermal Annealing Processed Metal-Semiconductor Contact on Plasmonic Waveguide Under Electrical Pumping

        The influence of Au/Ni-based contact formed on a lightly-doped (7.3×1017cm-3, Zn-doped) InGaAsP layerfor electrical compensation of surface plasmon polariton (SPP) propagation under various rapid thermalannealing (RTA) conditions has been studied. The active control of SPP propagation is realized byelectrically pumping the InGaAsP multiple quantum wells (MQWs) beneath the metal planar waveguide. The metal planar film acts as the electric contact layer and SPP waveguide, simultaneously. The RTAprocess can lower the metal-semiconductor electric contact resistance. Nevertheless, it inevitably increasesthe contact interface morphological roughness, which is detrimental to SPP propagation. Based on thisdilemma, in this work we focus on studying the influence of RTA conditions on electrical control of SPPs. The experimental results indicate that there is obvious degradation of electrical pumping compensationfor SPP propagation loss in the devices annealed at 400oC compared to those with no annealing treatment. With increasing annealing duration time, more significant degradation of the active performance is observedeven under sufficient current injection. When the annealing temperature is set at 400oC and the durationtime approaches 60s, the SPP propagation is nearly no longer supported as the waveguide surfacemorphology is severely changed. It seems that eutectic mixture stemming from the RTA process significantlyincreases the metal film roughness and interferes with the SPP signal propagation.

        소비자의 모바일 커머스 관련 소비성향과 특성 인식에 따른 이용만족도 및 재이용의도

        There has been an increasing and widespread use of smartphones to make consumer purchases. Given the stark increases in the sales of business transactions using mobile phones, it is obvious that mobile phones have become major mediums for consumer purchases. Through mobile phones, people can make their purchases anytime, anywhere, which leads their impulse of consumption directly to actual actions of consumption. Consequently, mobile commerce has become widely spread and the competition of the market has intensified. The main findings and implications of this study are as follows. First, it is shown that, among the features of mobile commerce, elements of fun, usefulness, convenience, immediateness, and security affect mobile commerce user satisfaction. Second, among mobile commerce-related consumers’ propensity, innovative consumption tendency appears to impact mobile commerce user satisfaction and repurchase intention. Third, recognition of elements in regards to fun, usefulness, convenience, immediateness, and security among features of mobile commerce affect consumers’ intention to repurchase mobile commerce. Future recognition for mobile commerce has a direct impact on increasing consumers’ repurchase intentions. Last, a higher mobile commerce user satisfaction leads to the higher repurchase intentions.
