        Development of Genetic Markers for Triploid Verification of the Pacific Oyster, Crassostrea gigas

        The triploid Pacific oyster, which is produced by mating tetraploid and diploid oysters, is favored by the aquaculture industry because of its better flavor and firmer texture, particularly during the summer. However, tetraploid oyster production is not feasible in all oysters; the development of tetraploid oysters is ongoing in some oyster species. Thus, a method for ploidy verification is necessary for this endeavor, in addition to ploidy verification in aquaculture farms and in the natural environment. In this study, a method for ploidy verification of triploid and diploid oysters was developed using multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR) panels containing primers for molecular microsatellite markers. Two microsatellite multiplex PCR panels consisting of three markers each were developed using previously developed microsatellite markers that were optimized for performance. Both panels were able to verify the ploidy levels of 30 triploid oysters with 100% accuracy, illustrating the utility of microsatellite markers as a tool for verifying the ploidy of individual oysters.

        초등학교 음악중심 융합교육 프로그램 개발을 위한 학습요소 분석

        본 연구는 초등학교에서 음악이 중심이 된 융합인재교육(STEAM)을 시행하고자 할 때 교사의 업무과중을 최소화 할 수 있도록 가능한 수업유형을 파악하고, 음악교과와 과학교과 간 융합이 가능한 학습요소를 도출해 내는 것을 연구 목적으로 하였다. 이를 위하여 2009 개정교육과정이 시행된 이후 국내 융합교육과 예술교육 대표적인 연구기관인 한국과학창의재단과 한국문화예술교육진흥원에서 발표된 ‘예술이 중심이 된 융합교육프로그램’들을 연구대상으로 수거하여 음악교과와 과학교과 간에 연계가 이루어진 학습요소들을 분석하였다. 그 결과, 음악교과는 학습요소로서 ‘음색’을 과학교과는 학습요소로서 ‘소리의 성질’, ‘물질과 물체’ ‘동물의 생활’, ‘날씨와 우리 생활’, ‘태양계와 별’등에 국한되어 개발되어 있는 것으로 나타났다. 수·과학 중심의 융합교육에 밀려 그동안 예술교육이 보조적인 역할에 그쳐 있는 상황에서 음악교육 전문가들의 융합인재교육을 위한 적극적인 관심과 다양한 학습주제의 개발을 촉구하는 바이다. The purpose of this research is to identify the learning types to implement the convergence training in the elementary school and to elicit the learning elements that can amalgamate the music and science curriculum. To analyze the trends of the convergent educational program focused on the arts, I reviewed all the arts-centered convergent program published from ‘the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity’ and ‘Korea Arts and Culture Education Service’ since the 2009 revised curriculum. The results showed that very limited number of music-centered convergent program have been published. The learning elements that amalgamate the music and the science subjects were ‘tone color’ in music and ‘the quality of sound’, 'materials and objects,' ‘animal life,' ’weather and our lives,' and ‘the solar system.’ In the development of the convergent education, music has played a merely supporting role for the science & mathematic-centered program. Now it is urged for the music and arts educators to participate in and develop the learning elements actively for the STEAM education.

        학문목적 한국어 학습자의 토론 수업 연구 - 학습자 간 유창성 평가를 중심으로-

        T+his study aims to examine learners' perceptions through fluency evaluations among learners in academic-purpose Korean debating classes. For that, the discussion of 31 advanced learners was conducted fluency evaluations by fellow learners, and the debaters' utterances were transcribed and analyzed. The analysis results are as follows. First, regression analysis of factors that determine a debater's fluency shows that the variable that most influences the debater's fluency judgment is the frequency of use of the argument, and the proportion of non-fluent utterances is somewhat less influential than the frequency of use of the argument. Second, fellow learners judged debaters with low rates of non-fluent utterances to be linguistically fluent. This is different from previous research results that native language speakers judge foreign learners' speaking fluency by their speaking speed. Third, the factor that influenced the debater's judgment of content fluency was the frequency of use of the argument. Learners tend to perceive debaters who use arguments highly as fluent debaters. Fluent discussion speaking requires training for learners' ability to construct arguments, as in conventional discussions, and also involves speaking practice to reduce non-fluent speech. This study is valuable as a learner-focused study in that debating classes are paramount, and is significant in that they have discussed learners' fluency in a different direction from the study of learners' fluency judgments from the native language speaker's perspective.         The Effects of Basic Psychological Need Satisfaction on Academic Performance in a Intensive Arabic Camp in Japan

        The purpose of this study is to investigate effects of the satisfaction of basic psychological needs (competence, autonomy, and relatedness) on academic performance during the Intensive Arabic Camp in Rurikei. The Camp activities ran for approximately one week in 2015 and again in 2016 in Rurikei, a suburb of Kyoto, Japan. One of the goals was to offer the participants basic psychological need satisfaction, as defined by the self-determination theory. Academic performance during the Camp was measured using the results of written and oral examinations, which were conducted before and after the Camp. The authors’ previous studies show that the participants’ need satisfaction generally increased due to the methods utilized in the Camp (Sumi & Sumi, 2019). Data were gathered from 95 participants in the Camp, who were mostly university students in Japan. The results showed that the written examination scores from after the Camp were positively affected by the satisfaction of autonomy and competence during the Camp. The oral examination scores from after the Camp were positively affected by the satisfaction of competence and relatedness during the Camp. These results suggest that the methods used within the Camp to increase need satisfaction also may enhance the participants’ motivation to learn Arabic, which in turn elevates the degree of their academic performance.

        Preemptive Strike on North Korea: Explaining the Sino-North Korean Mutual Aid and Cooperation Friendship Treaty

        The ROK-China conflicts due to the THAAD deployment in South Korea and the Trump administration’s preemptive strike doctrine toward the DPRK have put the security of the Korean Peninsula in a grave state. At the same time, positive expectations for ROK-DPRK-U.S. talks have been growing recently. However, since whether the United States will conduct a preemptive strike or not depends on the results of the U.S.-DPRK talks, the security of the Korean Peninsula is in a precarious state. This paper, therefore, attempts to analyze the Sino-North Korean Mutual Aid and Cooperation Friendship Treaty (hereafter referred to as the Sino-North Korean Friendship Treaty) that will allow for the reconsideration of China’s role in nullifying the uncertainty on the Korean Peninsula according to the treaty. The Automatic intervention, according to Article 2 of the Sino-North Korean Friendship Treaty, is an exercise of the right of self-defense that can be implemented when the requirements of necessity and proportionality of Customary International Law are met, and only until the UN Security council takes appropriate measures, according to Article 51 of the UN Charter. China’s intervention in the case of contingency on the Korean Peninsula, according to the Sino-North Korean Friendship Treaty, has limitations with regards to compliance with Articles 48 and 103 of the UN Charter. It is a special treaty based on the historical background between North Korea and China. Also, since China recently adopted “non-alignment” as a foreign policy, it is unlikely that the Sino-North Korean Friendship Treaty will continue after the regime transition.

        Effect of Amine Adlayer on Electrochemical Uric Acid Sensor Conducted on Electrochemically Reduced Graphene Oxide

        The electrochemical biosensing efficiency of uric acid (UA) detection on an electrochemically reduced graphene oxide (ERGO)-decorated electrode surface was studied by using various amine linkers used to immobilize ERGO. The amine linkers aminoethylphenyldiazonium, 2,2′-(ethylenedioxy)bis(ethylamine), 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane, and polyethyleneimine were coated on indium–tin–oxide electrode surfaces through chemical or electrochemical deposition methods. ERGO-decorated surfaces were prepared by the electrochemical reduction of graphene oxide (GO), which was immobilized on the amine-coated electrode surfaces through the electrostatic interaction between GO and the ammonium ion of the linker on the surface. We monitored the sensing results of electrochemical UA detection with differential pulse voltammetry. The ERGO-modified surface presented electrocatalytic oxidation of UA and ascorbic acid. Among the different amines tested, 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane provided the best biosensing performance in terms of sensitivity and reproducibility.
