We studied a family with Gorlin-Goltz syndrome. The novel mutations of our cases were located on the 21st exon of the PTCH1 gene (c.3450C>G). The father, who received a strategic 56-day vismodegib treatment for disease control, was the first patient with Gorlin syndrome treated with the hedgehog inhibitor in Taiwan. The lesions regressed gradually, with scar formation, and were subsequently removed via a wide excision. Further details are provided below. (Ann Dermatol 30(5) 597∼601, 2018)

This study combines and twists 75D polyester (PET) multi-filaments and polylactic acid (PLA) multi-filaments with twist coefficients of 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 to form 150D PET/PLA plied yarns. The 0.08-mm-diameter stainless steel (SS) fibers are made into SS braids with a 60-tooth braid gear and a take-up gear with 60, 70, 80, 90, or 100 teeth. PET/PLA plied yarn and SS braids are then combined and electrochemically treated with an electric current of 100, 200, 300, 400, or 500 mA at 60 ℃ for 24 hours, forming the PET/PLA/SS composite bone scaffolds. PET/PLA/SS composite bone scaffolds are observed by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and energy dispersive spectroscope (EDS), and tested for weight increase rate and biocompatibility. The experiment results show that the optimal twist coefficient for PET/PLA plied yarn is 4 and the optimal tooth number on the take-up gear for SS braids is 80. SEM observation result shows that hydroxyapatite (HA) deposits on the surface of PET/PLA/SS composite bone scaffolds and attaches to the PET/PLA plied yarns. Finally, regardless of electric currents, all PET/PLA/SS composite bone scaffolds possess good biocompatibility.
Development of Automatic Supplementary Lighting System for Greenhouses

To solve the agricultural damages caused by the climate change, this study is developed to build an automatic supplementary lighting platform for plant factories. The platform mainly uses aluminum as materials. The lighting strategy will depend on the DPI. During the day, platform parked at the original position and uses quantum sensor to accumulate the daylight. At night, it moved to the supplementary lighting area and provides lighting to plants. The platform is operated in cooperation with a PLC control system, and uses RFID and limit switch as a local positioning system at plant factories. In supplementary lighting area, lifting system detects the height of plants to adjust the level of lampshade accordingly. The study operated 10 times movement experiments, after first 5 times calibration, the success rate of last 5 times moving positioning is 93%, and the success rate of 10 times lifting experiments is 98%. The platform can provide an average of 354 μmol /㎡ /s light intensity within the distance of 10cm from the plants, and 3.27 μmol CO<sub>2</sub> / ㎡ / s if it is within the photosynthesis characteristic of lettuce. Based on the results of two-week experiment, it can be confirmed that supplementary lighting is able to provide sufficient lighting to plants during the night, and reach DPI standard of each supplementary lighting area.
Surface wettability and contact angle analysis by dissipative particle dynamics

A dissipative particle dynamics (DPD) simulation was presented to analyze surface wettability and contact angles of a droplet on a solid platform. The many-body DPD, capable of modeling vapor-liquid coexistence, was used to resolve the vapor-liquid interface of a droplet. We found a constant density inside a droplet with a transition along the droplet boundary where the density decreased rapidly. The contact angle of a droplet was extracted from the isosurfaces of the density generated by the marching cube and a spline interpolation of 2D cutting planes of the isosurfaces. A wide range of contact angles from $55^{\circ}$ to $165^{\circ}$ predicted by the normalized parameter ($|A_{SL}|/B_{SL}$) were reported. Droplet with the parameters $|A_{SL}|>5.84B{_{SL}}^{0.297}$ was found to be hydrophilic. If $|A_{SL}|$ was much smaller than $5.84B{_{SL}}^{0.297}$, the droplet was found to be superhydrophobic.

A bacterial strain designated GR5T, previously isolated from a freshwater culture pond in Taiwan while screening for bacteria for antimicrobial compounds, was characterized using a polyphasic taxonomic approach. Strain GR5T was found to be Gram-negative, aerobic, greenish-yellow colored, rod-shaped, and motile by means of a single polar flagellum. Growth occurred at 10-40oC (optimum, 35oC), pH 7.0-8.0 (optimum pH 8.0), and with 0-2.0% NaCl (optimum, 0.5-1.0%). The major fatty acids were C16:1ω7c (36.3%), C16:0 (16.6%), C12:0 3-OH (12.5%), and C18:1ω7c (9.1%). The major respiratory quinone was Q-8, and the DNA G+C content of the genomic DNA was 51.9 mol%. Phylogenetic analyses based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain GR5T belongs to the genus Rheinheimera, where its most closely related neighbors are Rheinheimera texasensis A62-14BT and Rheinheimera tangshanensis JA3-B52T with sequence similarities of 98.1% and 97.5%, respectively, and the sequence similarities to any other recognized species within Gammaproteobacteria are less than 96.5%. The mean level of DNA-DNA relatedness between strain GR5 T and R. texasensis A62-14BT, the strain most closely related to the isolate, was 26.5±7.6%. Therefore, based on the phylogenetic and phenotypic data, strain GR5T should be classified as a novel species, for which the name Rheinheimera aquatica sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is GR5T (=BCRC 80081T= LMG 25379T).

Objective: Pharmacotherapy including mood stabilizers and antipsychotics are frequently used in bipolar disorder (BD); however, the lack of consensus regarding the definition of polypharmacy hinders conducting comparative studies across different settings and countries. Research on Asian Prescription Pattern (REAP) is the largest and the longest lasting international collaborative research in psychiatry in Asia. The objective of REAP BD was to investigate the prescription patterns of psychotropic medications across Asian countries. The rates of polypharmacy and psychotropic drug load were also analyzed. Methods: The data collection was web-based. Prescription patterns were categorized as (1) mood stabilizer monotherapy: one mood stabilizer; (2) antipsychotic monotherapy: one antipsychotic; (3) simple polypharmacy: one mood stabilizer and one antipsychotic; and (4) complex polypharmacy: ≥ 2 mood stabilizers or/and antipsychotics. The psychotropic drug load in each patient was calculated using the defined daily dose method. Results: Among 2003 patients with BD (52.1% female, 42.4 years) from 12 countries, 1,619 (80.8%) patients received mood stabilizers, 1,644 (82.14%) received antipsychotics, and 424 (21.2%) received antidepressants, with 14.7% mood stabilizer monotherapy, 13.4% antipsychotic monotherapy, 48.9% simple polypharmacy, 20.3% complex polypharmacy, and 2.6% other therapy. The average psychotropic drug load was 2.05 ± 1.40. Results varied widely between countries. Conclusion: Over 70% of psychotropic regimens involved polypharmacy, which accords with the high prevalence of polypharmacy in BD under a permissive criterion (2 or more core psychotropic drugs) worldwide. Notably, ≥ 80% of our sample received antipsychotics, which may indicate an increasing trend in antipsychotic use for BD treatment.
Contour-Model-Guided Volumetric Deformation Method for Medical Image Registration

부위들 사이에 혹은 그룹별 가능하도록 하기 위하여 해부학의 표준화를 위한 한 부위의 MR 영상을 표준인 참조 MR 영상으로 바꾸는 자동화된 방법이 제시한다. 이 방법에서는 먼저 입력된 영상과 참조영상의 전체적으로 나란히 놓기 위하여 선형변환을 하고, 능동 윤곽선 추출 기법을 이용하여 입력영상의 윤곽선과 곡면을 다듬는다. 그리고, 이 과정을 통하여 얻어진 윤곽선과 곡면의 대응관계를 기초로, 제안된 가중 지역 참조 좌표계를 이용하여 입력영상을 변형하는 비선형 변환을 한다. 우리는 이방법을 MR 영상의 등록을 위하여 실제 영상에 적용해 보았다. An automated method is proposed for anatomic standardization that elastically map one subject's MR image to a standard reference MR image to enable inter-subject and cross-group studies. In this method, linear transformations are first applied to grossly align the input image to the reference image. Then, the candidate corresponding regions in the input image are identified based on the contour information from the pre-segmented reference image. Next, and active contour model is employed to refine the contour and surface description of the input image. Based on the contour and surface correspondence established in these previous steps, a non-linear transformation is determined using the proposed weighted local reference coordinates systems to warp the input image. We tested this algorithm on various real images for registration of MR images.
