Enzyme-linked Immuno sorbent Assay (ELISA) for the serological diagnosis oi Bruceiia abortus was developed and compared with plate aggluhnation test Cell wall antigen was extracted from Brucella abortus 1119-3 by sonicabon and with a sodium deoxychlate solution Optimum protein concentra tion of coating antigen 0.4㎍/100㎕ protein on each microtiter plate well. Horse radish peroxidase(HRP) labled protein-G was used as a tracer of reacted antibodies ELISA confirmed the agreeable results of 40 rases out of 43 cases by plate aggulutination test ELISA diagnosed positive cases (10 out of 12) and negatiw cases (1 out of 12) with dubious sera by plate agglutination test From this results EL ISA could be used for the early diagnostic tools of Brucellosis in cattle.

There are many advantages and disadvantages under the limited bachelor's admission system. To diminish the demerits and to increase the merits of this system, the authors posed questions to the faculties and students of the Department of Medicine. Chosun University College of Medicine and other colleges in Korea. The questionnaire was made according to trends and feelings in this system. We received a lot of information and suggestions as to how to improve the system, in the following paper we discuss and report the prospective aspects of the bachelor's admission system.
마우스 Myeloma Cell P3-X63-Ag8.653 및 T Cell Hybridome DO11.10에서의 Programmed Cell Death 유발 특성 비교

This study was aimed to prove that the death of HGPRT myeloma V653 by aminopterin treatment is due to PCD. This PCD was also compared with a relatively well-defined dexamethasone-induced PCD of T-cell hybridoma DO11.10. And these PCD systems were further characterized by inhibiting protein synthesis with cycloheximide, inhibiting mRNA synthesis with actinomycin-D, increasing intracellular calcium with calcium ionophore A23187. Induction of c-myc, an universal apoptosis gene, was also compared between these 2 systems. Viability of V653 cell was decreased by aminopterin-treatment in a dose-dependent manner. After treatment of aminopterin, this decrease of viability began in 6 hours and was accelerated in 12-18 hours. DNA fragmentation of V653 was detectable at 3 hours of incubation and peaked in 12-18 hours. Patterns of decrease in cell viability and increase in DNA fragmentation of dexamethasone-treated DO11.10 cells was similar to that of aminopterin-treated V653 cell, but the progress was much slower. The decrease in cell viability and increase in DNA fragmentation of aminopterin-treated V653 cells were inhibited by protein synthesis inhibitor cycloheximide, and RNA synthesis inhibitor actinomycin-D. In contrast the decrease in cell viability and increase in DNA fragmentation of dexamethasone-treated DO11.10 cell were accelerated by cycloheximide and actinomycin-D additions. Ca^2+ ionophore A23187 addition to aminopterin-treated V653 cells and dexamethasone-treated DO11.10 accelerated the decrease in cell viability and the increase in DNA fragmentation of both cells. In northern blot analysis, induction of c-myc gene was observed in aminopterin-treated V653 cell reached peak at 2hours and thern decreased drastically. Induction of c-myc gene in dexamethasone-treated DO11.10 cells was much slower and the fold of gene induction was much lower than that of aminopterin-treated V653 cell. Ultrastructural changes during the death process were observed by using electron microscope. Dilatation of rough endoplasmic reticulum(RER) and detachment of ribosomes were the earliest ultrastructural changes, which were observed in 30 minutes after death induction. The results of this study suggest that aminopterin-induced selective elimination of fusion partner V653 myeloma cell is due to PCD, and that this process requires de novo protein and RNA synthesis in which a Ca^2+ -mediated signal transduction pathway is involved.
Strut-and-Tie Model을 利用한 鐵筋콘크리트 部材의 剪斷解析

Recently, Strut-and-Tie Model(STM) is proposed as a rational and consistent basis for analysis and design of any part of cracked reinforced and prestressed concrete structures which include so called disturbed or discontinuity regions, subject to bending, shear and torsion. In this paper, first, theoritical backgrounds of STM as well as modelling and analyzing methods are introduced. Then, the funtion of STM is confirmed by applying STM to some examples of other reseacher's experiments on reinforced concrete deep beams and comparing with test results and ACI Code provisions.
전립선 비대증 진단에 있어서 전립선 이행대 용적 지수의 유용성

Purpose : Prostate volume has been poorly correlated to various parameters used to assess benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), including symptom score, peak urine flow and detrusor pressure at peak urine flow. The purpose of this study was 2-fold: 1) to determine if transrectal ultrasound measurement of the transition zone of the prostate served as a better proxy for determining prostate size and correlated better with IPSS, peak urine flow and detrusor pressure and 2) if the parameter transition zone index (the ratio between transition zone volume and prostate volume) was useful in evaluating clinical prostatism. Materials and Methods: We prospectively evaluated 30 men with symptomatic BPH (mean age 65.4 years) according to symptom sore, peak urine flow, pressure/flow study, transrectal ultrasound volume of the entire prostate and the transition zone and calculation of the transition zone index. Results : There was a week correlation between prostate volume and symptom score, peak urine flow and detrusor pressure at peak urine flow: a stronger correlation between volume of transition zone and symptom score (r=0.679 p=0.03), and peak urine flow (r=-0.672 p=0.05) and a significant correlation (p=0.001) between transition zone index and symptom score (r=0.868), and peak urine flow(r=-0.870). Conclusion : Transition zone index is a parameter that correlates siginificantly with parameters of BPH and may serve as a useful proxy for evaluating worsening obstruction. Studies are underway to determine whether transtion zone index can be used prospectively to predict and correlate response with therapies designed to ablate prostatic tissue medically or surgically.

This paper presents a reliability-based topology optimization (RBTO) using bi-directional evolutionary structural optimization (BESO). An actual design involves uncertain conditions such as material property, operational load and dimensional variation. Deterministic topology optimization (DTO) is obtained without considering of uncertainties related to the uncertainty parameters. However, the RBTO can consider the uncertainty variables because it has the probabilistic constraints. In this paper, the reliability index approach (RIA) is adopted to evaluate the probabilistic constraint. RBTO based on BESO starting from various design domains produces a similar optimal topology each other. Numerical examples are presented to compare the DTO with the RBTO.

Toxic oxygen free radicals have been implicated as important pathologic mediators in many clinical disordesrs. Enhandng the intracellular content of antioxidant enzymes can provide means of limiting biological damage caused by oxygen free radicals. Many investigations have examined the potential of various oxyradical scavengers to modulate oxyradical injury. The oxygen free radicals play a role in the pathogenesis of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. To investigate the pulmonary oxyradical injury and the protective role of antioxidant enzymes, author measured the amount of thiobarbituric acid reactants, the activiteies of antioxidant enzymes (superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase, and catalase) and the sulfhydryl groups in serum and red blood cells from the chronic obstructive pulmonary disease groups and the normal controls. The thiobarbituric acid reactant in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease groups was increased than the controls in both serum and red blood cells, and the superoxide dismutase activity in red blood cells was no statistically difference in both groups. But, the glutathione peroxidase and catalase activities were lowered in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease groups than the controls. The sulfhydryl groups in serum and red blood cells were no statistically difference in both groups. These results suggest that the increased thiobarbituric acid reactant in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease groups mean oxygen radical toxicity, and the decreased glutathione peroxidase and catalase activities may play a role in cellular injury.
