Perception of marriage and marriage preparation - Consumers’ age-related behavior differences -
Seongmi Cho,Jihun Yu 복식문화학회 2019 服飾文化硏究 Vol.27 No.5
As the concept of “marriage age” gradually disappears, the consumption class of the wedding market includes not only X and Y generations but also Z generations, and each generation has its own characteristics as it is already known, and there are differences in the consumption. So this research analyzed age-related behavior differences in both awareness of and preparation for marriage. Three hundred sixteen unmarried Korean males and females comprised the study population and data was collected from March 5, 2019, to April 3, 2019. The SPSS Statistics 23.0 Package was used for analysis, specifically the functions of frequency, cross tabulation, factor analysis, chi-squared test, Cronbach’s alpha, Duncans’s new multiple range test (MRT), and analysis of variance (ANOVA). Marriage motivation was analyzed by three factors, and there were significant differences in two types. Marital involvement was analyzed by two factors, and both factors showed significant age-related differences. Concerns relating to marriage preparation were analyzed by four factors, and two varied according to respondent age. Regarding marriage preparation behaviors, the analysis revealed that the marriage preparation method appreciably differed between age groups. Our analysis also found significant age-related differences in “the main media usually used to acquire information” and “the paths preferred for acquiring information in preparing for marriage”. We expect that study results will be useful for identifying new research directions, understanding the dimensions of the wedding industry, and developing related marketing strategies.

Background: To investigate the use of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitors as an initial drug treatment for knee osteoarthritis (OA) patients. Methods: From 2013 to 2015, patients with knee OA were identified from the Korean nationwide claims database. Among them, we extracted incident cases of knee OA to identify the initial drug treatment. Trends in the use of non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) including COX-2 inhibitors were analyzed during the first year after their diagnosis. Associated factors for COX-2 inhibitor use were examined using a multivariate logistic regression model. Results: We identified 2,857,999 incident knee OA patients (955,259 in 2013, 981,314 in 2014, and 921,426 in 2015). The mean ± standard deviation age of patients was 64.2 ± 9.8 years. The frequency of COX-2 inhibitor use as initial treatment increased from 3.5% in 2013 to 7.2% in 2015 (P < 0.01). In patients taking the medication regularly for one year after diagnosis (medication possession ratio ≥ 50%), COX-2 inhibitor use also rapidly increased from 5.5% in 2013 to 11.1% in 2015 (P < 0.01). However, the frequencies of non-selective NSAID and analgesic use did not decrease remarkably. Factors associated with patients using COX-2 inhibitors on initial drug treatment were older age (odds ratio [OR], 1.08), female (OR, 1.24), and comorbidity (OR, 1.03). Type of institution, physician speciality, and insurance type of patients were also associated. Conclusion: In Korea, COX-2 inhibitors have rapidly increased as an initial treatment for knee OA patients, but it has not appeared to reduce the use of non-selective NSAIDs and analgesics.

Familial Parkinson’s disease (PD) has been linked to point mutations and duplication of the α-synuclein (α-syn) gene. Mutant α-syn expression increases the vulnerability of neurons to exogenous insults. In this study, we developed a new PD model in the transgenic mice expressing mutant hemizygous (hemi) or homozygous (homo) A53T α-synuclein (α-syn Tg) and their wildtype (WT) littermates by treatment with sub-toxic (10 mg/kg, i.p., daily for 5 days) or toxic (30 mg/kg, i.p., daily for 5 days) dose of 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP). Tyrosine hydroxylase and Bcl-2 levels were reduced in the α-syn Tg but not WT mice by sub-toxic MPTP injection. In the adhesive removal test, time to remove paper was significantly increased only in the homo α-syn Tg mice. In the challenging beam test, the hemi and homo α-syn Tg mice spent significantly longer time to traverse as compared to that of WT group. In order to find out responsible proteins related with vulnerability of mutant α-syn expressed neurons, DJ-1 and ubiquitin enzyme expressions were examined. In the SN, DJ-1 and ubiquitin conjugating enzyme, UBE2N, levels were significantly decreased in the α-syn Tg mice. Moreover, A53T α-syn overexpression decreased DJ-1 expression in SH-SY5Y cells. These findings suggest that the vulnerability to oxidative injury such as MPTP of A53T α-syn mice can be explained by downregulation of DJ-1.

Objective. To evaluate the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID)-sparing effect of symptomatic slow-acting drugs for osteoarthritis (SYSADOA) in knee osteoarthritis (OA) patients. Methods. A retrospective study was conducted on a cohort of knee OA patients who visited a single academic referral hospital from 2013 to 2014. Among all patients, NSAID users in their first visit were extracted and divided into SYSADOA users and SYSADOA non-users. All patients were observed from their first visit with knee OA to their last visit, NSAID discontinuation, or the date of data collection, July 2017 (mean observational periods: 369.1 days). To evaluate the NSAID-sparing effect of SYSADOA, Cox regression analysis was performed after adjusting for confounding factors. Results. Patients for this study (n=212) were divided into SYSADOA users (n=57) and SYSADOA non-users (n=155). The mean age (68.8 vs. 66.6 years old, p=0.31) and the number of comorbidities (p=0.73) were comparable between the two groups. The SYSADOA users showed higher Kellgren-Lawrence (KL) grade (66.7% of patients with more than KL grade 3) than SYSADOA non-users (42.6% of patients with more than KL grade 3) (p=0.02). In treatment, the frequency of intra-articular injection was higher in the SYSADOA user group than the SYSADOA non-user group (33.3% vs. 9.0%, p<0.01). In Cox regression analysis, SYSADOA use contributed to NSAID discontinuation in knee OA patients (hazard ratio 2.97, 95% confidential interval 1.42∼6.22). Conclusion. This real-world analysis demonstrated that SYSADOA use combined with NSAIDs had a significant effect on NSAID discontinuation in patients with knee OA. (J Rheum Dis 2019;26:179-185)

Voice-user interfaces (VUI) are becoming highlighted as an effective tool for intuitive user interactions. This study conducts a between-subject experiment in which variations in voice characteristics (i.e., voice gender and manner) of VUI are examined as key determinants of user perceptions. Based on the finding, it argues that the voice gender and manner (calm vs. exuberant) are likely to have significant effects on psychological and behavioral outcomes, such as credibility and trustworthiness of information delivered via VUI.
