Graphical Approaches for Planning ExperimentsHigh Resolution Linear Graphs for ThreeLevel Designs
Lee, Sang-Heon Military Operations Research Society of Korea 2003 한국국방경영분석학회지 Vol.29 No.2
The lack of consideration for statistical properties in Taguchi's threelevel linear graphs is rectified. We propose a new set of linear graphs for the threelevel orthogonal arrays according to the maximum resolution criterion. In the presence of twofactor interactions however, the serious bias of all the estimated effects as well as the estimated variance shows that these designs should not be employed. The various alternative designs are discussed.

The first ever demonstration of a cable‐type lithium ion battery architecture with outstanding omni‐directional flexibility is described by Je Young Kim, Heon‐Cheol Shin, and co‐workers on page 5192. The Front Cover image illustrates the unique battery architecture comprising a skeleton frame surrounding an empty space, that is, a hollow‐spiral anode with a multi‐helical structure. This design enables the battery to reliably power an LED screen or an MP3 player even under severe mechanical twisting and bending.

The technological effects of Makgeolli lees fiber (0, 0.5, 1.0, 2.0, and 4.0%) on chicken salt-soluble breast meat proteins in a model system on proximate composition, physicochemical properties, and textural properties were investigated. Makgeolli lees fiber was obtained from Makgeolli brew processing, and the by-products showed good dietary fiber. The moisture and ash contents, water holding capacity, redness, yellowness, hardness, and apparent viscosity of chicken salt-soluble meat protein heat-induced gel systems with Makgeolli lees fiber were all higher than the control without Makgeolli lees fiber. However, protein solubility and electrophoretic patterns did not differ among the control and treatments with Makgeolli lees fiber samples. The chicken salt-soluble protein heat-induced gel systems incorporating Makgeolli lees fiber had improved water holding capacity, textural properties, and viscosity due to Makgeolli lees fiber addition. These results suggest that the addition of 4.0% Makgeolli lees fiber to gel is helpful to improve the physical properties of heat-induced gels.

Methylene Blue Reported Electrochemical Aptasensor for Dopamine Detection
Sang-Heon Park,Jihye Lee,Jong-Souk Yeo 한국진공학회 2021 한국진공학회 학술발표회초록집 Vol.2021 No.2
Dopamine (DA) is a neurotransmitter molecule with functions in the neuronal signal transduction. We developed aptamer based electrochemical biosensing of methylene blue (MB) as redox labels. MB-anchored aptamer probe can be forced to dissociate from the interface after structure-switching of the aptamer by combining with DA. Moreover, the LTCC chip with screen printed gold electrodes showed a high stability and great resistance against gold degradation over cycles, enabling specific detection of DA with long-term reliability.

Background

Little is known about within-country variation in morbidity and mortality of cerebrovascular diseases (CVDs). Geographic differences in CVD morbidity and mortality have yet to be properly examined. This study examined geographic variation in morbidity and mortality of CVD, neighborhood factors for CVD morbidity and mortality, and the association between CVD morbidity and mortality across the 245 local districts in Korea during 2011-2015.

Methods

District-level health care utilization and mortality data were obtained to estimate age-standardized CVD morbidity and mortality. The bivariate Pearson correlation was used to examine the linear relationship between district-level CVD morbidity and mortality Z-scores. Simple linear regression and multivariate analyses were conducted to investigate the associations of area characteristics with CVD morbidity, mortality, and discrepancies between morbidity and mortality.

Results

Substantial variation was found in CVD morbidity and mortality across the country, with 1074.9 excess CVD inpatients and 73.8 excess CVD deaths per 100,000 between the districts with the lowest and highest CVD morbidity and mortality, respectively. Higher rates of CVD admissions and deaths were clustered in the noncapital regions. A moderate geographic correlation between CVD morbidity and mortality was found (Pearson correlation coefficient = .62 for both genders). Neighborhood level indicators for socioeconomic disadvantages, undersupply of health care resources, and unhealthy behaviors were positively associated with CVD morbidity and mortality and the relative standing of CVD mortality vis-à-vis morbidity.

Conclusions

Policy actions targeting life-course socioeconomic conditions, equitable distribution of health care resources, and behavioral risk factors may help reduce geographic differences in CVD morbidity and mortality in Korea.

An electrokinetic analysis of electrochemical CO2 reduction reactions provides information about the decoupled involvement of electron-proton transfer from the Tafel slope and reaction order analyses. Conventionally, a one-electron transfer to CO2 and a chemical proton transfer from HCO3− have been considered to be typical rate-limiting steps. These suggested reaction mechanisms are justified under several assumptions: (1) the bicarbonate ion is a major proton donor, (2) the gaseous CO2 is a carbon source, (3) the reaction mechanism is unaffected by the applied potentials outside the Tafel region, etc. However, recent electrokinetic studies combined with in situ and isotopic experiments raise a question that the above conventional assumptions may not always be valid. Furthermore, there are unresolved issues between the mechanisms suggested by electrokinetic studies. In this review, reported reaction mechanisms of the CO2 reduction reaction are summarized with CO and HCOO− formation as model reaction systems. The reaction pathways are also discussed with a theoretical consideration. A deep investigation into the mechanisms reveals the complex feature of reaction pathways and the difficulty in suggesting the mechanism solely from an electrokinetic analysis.
