Analyzing an infinite buffer batch arrival and batch service queue under batch-size-dependent service policy

        S. Pradhan,U.C. Gupta,S.K. Samanta 한국통계학회 2016 Journal of the Korean Statistical Society Vol.45 No.1

In this paper, we investigate an infinite-buffer queue with batch-arrival and batch-service wherein a single server operates under random serving capacity rule with service time dependent on the size of the batch under the service. First, we derive the probability generating function of state probabilities at service completion epoch, from which an entire spectrum regarding queue-length at various epochs is extracted. Using the departure epoch probabilities, we establish a stable relationship between departure and random epochs probabilities based on ‘rate in = rate out’ approach. Further, random epoch probabilities are used to obtain pre-arrival epoch probabilities. Finally, we illustrate our analytical results by means of numerical computation which includes the case of multiple roots.

Studying Thermochemical Conversion of Sm2O3 to SmCl3 using AlCl3 in LiCl-KCl Eutectic Melt

Samanta, Nibedita,Chandra, Manish,Maji, S.,Venkatesh, P.,Annapoorani, S.,Jain, Ashish The Korean Electrochemical Society 2022 Journal of electrochemical science and technology Vol.13 No.2

In this report the thermochemical conversion of Sm2O3 to SmCl3 using AlCl3 in LiCl-KCl melt at 773 K is discussed. The final product was a mixture of SmCl3, Al2O3, unreacted Sm2O3 and AlCl3 in the chloride melt. The electrochemical attributes of the mixture was analyzed with cyclic voltammetry (CV) and square wave voltammetry (SWV). The crystallographic phases of the mixture were studied with X-ray diffraction (XRD) technique. The major chemical conversion was optimized by varying the effective parameters, such as concentrations of AlCl3, duration of reaction and the amount of LiCl-KCl salt. The extent of conversion and qualitative assessment of efficiency of the present protocol were evaluated with fluorescence spectroscopy, UV-Vis spectrophotometry and inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES) studies of the mixture. Thus, a critical assessment of the thermochemical conversion efficiency was accomplished by analysing the amount of SmCl3 in LiCl-KCl melt. In the process, a conversion efficiency of 95% was achieved by doubling the stoichiometric requirement of AlCl3 in 50 g of LiCl-KCl salt. The conversion reaction was found to be very fast as the reaction reached equilibrium in 15 min.

Effect of Dietary Vitamin E Supplementation on Serum α-Tocopherol and Immune Status of Crossbred Calves

        Samanta, A.K.,Dass, R.S.,Rawat, Mayank,Mishra, S.C.,Mehra, U.R. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2006 Animal Bioscience Vol.19 No.4

An experiment was conducted with twenty crossbred male calves (7-15 days old) divided into 4 different experimental groups on the basis of body weights to study the effect of vitamin E supplementation on the serum ${\alpha}$-tocopherol concentration and immune response of the calves. All the calves were fed on milk and calf starter up to 13 weeks and afterwards, they were fed on concentrate mixture and oat hay up to 32 weeks of age. In addition, the calves in groups I, II, III and IV were supplemented with 0, 125, 250 and 500 IU feed grade DL-${\alpha}$-tocopheryl acetate, respectively. Blood samples were collected at 0 day and subsequently at 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 and 8 months of age to monitor the serum ${\alpha}$-tocopherol concentration in crossbred calves. After 24 weeks of experimental feeding, 4 animals from each group were intramuscularly inoculated with single dose (3 ml) of Haemorrhagic septiceaemia (Pasteurella multocida P52 strain) oil adjuvant vaccine. The cumulative group mean serum ${\alpha}$-tocopherol concentration (${\mu}g/100ml$) was 88.12, 210.11, 235.21 and 294.02 in-groups I, II, III and IV, respectively and differed significantly (p<0.001) among the four groups. Lymphocyte stimulation indices (LSI) did not differ among the groups significantly. The pooled mean ELISA antibody titer against Pasteurella multocida (P52 strain) was 788.02, 926.85, 1,214.00 and 1,109.51 for group I, II, III and IV, respectively, which indicated higher antibody titer in groups supplemented with vitamin E as compared to the control group. It may be concluded that vitamin E supplementation increased the ${\alpha}$-tocopherol concentration in serum and dietary supplementation of vitamin E at higher level has a humoral immune enhancing effect against killed bacterial antigen.

Effect of oxygen partial pressure and annealing on nanocrystalline p-type ZnO:Sb thin films

        K. Samanta,A.K. Arora,S. Hussain,S. Chakravarty,R.S. Katiyar 한국물리학회 2012 Current Applied Physics Vol.12 No.5

We have investigated the effect of oxygen partial pressure and annealing on nanocrystalline p-type Sb-doped ZnO thin films, grown by pulsed laser deposition, with hole concentration of 6.5 ×1018/cm3and mobility of 53 cm2/V-s. Uses of higher working pressure or annealing are found to reduce carrier concentration. A strong correlation is observed between carrier concentration and the violet (3.02 eV)emission related to free Zn-vacancy; stronger the violet emission, smaller the carrier concentration. In contrast to earlier suggestion of using higher oxygen pressure for obtaining p-type conductivity, the present results show a deterioration of the quality of film. Analysis of Polymeric Knitted Fabrics on Properties for Telecommunications Devices Application

        Marcos S. Aquino,Samanta M. Holanda,Thiago F. Santos,Moisés V. Melo,Nestor D. L. Junior,Idalmir S. Q. Júnior,Humberto D. Andrade 한국섬유공학회 2019 Fibers and polymers Vol.20 No.11

The growing development of telecommunications, especially mobile telecommunications, has intensified researchinto microfiber antennas in the last years, since these have unique properties as well as a wide range of applications. Theresearch in the field of wearable technology is impelled by the demand for increasingly light and flexible devices, whereelectronic components are entirely embedded in their textile structures. The knitted fabrics have the necessary elasticity tocreate adaptive and sporty pieces, allowing high mobility and comfort to its users. The concept of textile antennas is based onmalleability and, for this reason, they can have great utility in applications where the stiffness of traditional antennas isconsidered a limitation, especially in military or biomedical garments. This study aims to determine the properties of thenatural and synthetic fibers knitted fabric for use in microwave devices, presenting the materials and methods used in theresearch to the prototyping and simulation of a microstrip antenna. Four knitted fabrics with different structures (Jersey andSimple Piquet) and fiber compositions (Cotton and Cotton with Polyamide) were selected. The determination of the electricalproperties was performed through the coaxial probe method to obtain the permittivity and tangent loss properties, and thedetermination of the physical properties according to the technical standards, where the textile properties (weight, dimensional stability, yarn count and tensile strength) of the analyzed samples were determined. The results were analyzedaccording to the proposed application and the CO_Piquet presented the lower loss tangent and better dimensional stability, the microstrip antenna was dimensioned to a frequency of 2.45 GHz according to the transmission line and resonant cavitymethod, and simulated in the HFSS where loss return, radiation diagrams and current density parameters was obtained.

Sea Surface Temperature and Phytoplankton Abundance as Crucial Proxies for Green Noctiluca Bloom Monitoring in the Northeastern Arabian Sea: A Case Study

        Sarma Nittala S.,Baliarsingh Sanjiba Kumar,Lotliker Aneesh Anandrao,Pandi Sudarsana Rao,Samanta Alakes,Srichandan Suchismita 한국해양과학기술원 2023 Ocean science journal Vol.58 No.1

Green Noctiluca scintillans (NSG) is a mixotrophic dinofagellate that frequently forms intense blooms in the north Indian Ocean, especially in the northeastern Arabian Sea during winter. This study investigates the conducive conditions and drivers associated with NSG blooms and proposes signifcant models for estimating NSG based on in situ (time-series) study during the bloom cycles. Two critical factors with regard to the blooms, i.e., phytoplankton abundance and sea surface temperature (SST), were examined. The frst phase of heterotrophy dominance was when moderate blooms up to~ 2.26× 104 cells 1–1 occurred and, when NSG cells per unit chlorophyll-a (chl-a) increased, SST decreased up to~24.5 ºC. The bloom intensity was proportional to the feed (diatoms/phytoplankton) availability and the degree of cooling (by the winter convection, i.e., nutrient enrichment). In the second phase of autotrophy dominance, intense blooms up to 1.9× 105 cells l −1 occurred and NSG cells per unit chl-a fell, when the SST increased. During this period, bloom intensity was proportional to the degree of warming, i.e., nutrient and physiological stress. Phytoplankton are related to NSG by a single linear model through this SST cycle and is likely the NSG’s essential biotic precursor. Attention is then focused on developing a remote sensing refectance (Rrs) model for efcient synoptic monitoring of NSG using ocean color satellites. The Rrs band product ratio, a new metric, in combination with SST, notably modelled NSG abundance, which may be of potential routine application.

A MATHEMATICAL MODEL OF A PREY-PREDATOR TYPE FISHERY IN THE PRESENCE OF TOXICITY WITH FUZZY OPTIMAL HARVESTING

        PAL, D.,MAHAPATRA, G.S.,MAHATO, S.K.,SAMANTA, G.P. The Korean Society for Computational and Applied M 2020 Journal of applied mathematics & informatics Vol.38 No.1

In this paper, we have presented a multispecies prey-predator harvesting system based on Lotka-Voltera model with two competing species which are affected not only by harvesting but also by the presence of a predator, the third species. We also assume that the two competing fish species releases a toxic substance to each other. We derive the condition for global stability of the system using a suitable Lyapunov function. The possibility of existence of bionomic equilibrium is considered. The optimal harvest policy is studied and the solution is derived under imprecise inflation in fuzzy environment using Pontryagin's maximal principle. Finally some numerical examples are discussed to illustrate the model.
