나이지리아는 70%의 국민이 농업에 종사하고 있는 농업 국가이다. 나지지리아의 주요 재배 작물은 사탕수수, 기장, 땅콩, 면화, 감자, 야자수, 쌀, 고무, 코코아 등을 주요 작물로 재배하고 있다. 총 경작지의 1%만이 관개작업이 되어있고 나머지 경작지에 대해서는 그리하지 못하다. 유리한 조건을 가지고 있음에도 불구하고 농업 기술의 부족 및 지원이 원활하게 이우루어지지 않아 식량부족현상이 일어나고 있다. 연간 비료 요구량은 높으나 그리하지 못한 상황이다. 그리하여 지속가능하고 비료 요구를 충족하기 위해서는 토양에서 분리한 미생물을 이용한 생물적 제어 및 생물 농약이 요구되는 실정이다. 그리하여 본 연구에서는 나이지리아 23곳의 경작지 토양을 수집하여 토양에 자생하고 있는 근권의 유용미생물을 탐색 발굴 하고자 실행하였다. 연구 결과 곰팡이는 31종을 분리하였으며, 세균의 경우 26종의 미생물을 분리하였다. 대부분 분리된 미생물은 우리나라와 토양에서 분리되는 일반 종 들이 분리 되었으며, 그중에서 곰팡이에서는 식물병원성 곰팡이로 알려져 있는 Fusarium spp.가 분리되었으며, 대부분은 일반 종으로 확인 되었다. 곰팡이에서 잠재력을 가지고 이용할 수 있는 Trichoderma spp. 7종을 분리하였으며, 분리된 균주를 이용하여 주요 작물에서 발생하는 식물병원성 미생물에 대한 생물적 방제 효과에 대하여 연구가 더 필요할 것으로 생각되어진다. 세균의 경우 생물학적 방제 효과가 있다고 알려진 B. subtilis, S.maltophilia가 분리되었으며, 생육촉진에 효과가 있다고 알려진 Methylobacterium sp.도 함께 분리 되었다. 세균 역시 나이지리아세 문제가 되고 있는 비료 수급 문제 도움이 될 것으로 생각되어지며, 위 균주에 대하여 길항 및 생육촉진 효과 실험이 진행될 예정이다. Nigeria is the agrarian country in which the majority of people are engaged in agriculture. The main crops of Nigeria are sorghum, millet, soybean, peanut, cotton, yam, palm trees, rice, rubber, cocoa etc. The economy of Nigeria is depending upon the agricultural sector. Only 1% of the total arable land is under irrigation in Nigeria. Instead of having favorable geographical conditions, export of agricultural product is reducing due to the lack of suitable agricultural technology. 70% of the total populations in Nigeria are engaged in agriculture. In addition annual fertilizer requirement is high to overcome the fertilizer requirement to farmers. As Nigeria has diversified climatic zones, different types of crop can be found in different agro-climatic zones. In 2008 Nigeria was the world’s number one yam exporting country. In 2008 Nigeria exported 492 million cocoa beans to the world. For the sustainable agriculture development and economic upliftment of Nigeria, some long term strategies should be done. Biological control could be one best option to fulfill the fertilizer requirement in Nigeria. Thus, this study was conducted to explore the microbial diversity and to find out the effective antagonistic microorganism and ultimately to make bio-fertilizer to distribute in Nigeria. In this study soil samples were collected from agricultural field soil from Nigeria. In total 23 soil samples were collected. Soil samples were isolated and microorganisms (fungi and bacteria) were identified from Macrogen. From the isolated soil, in total 31 different fungal species were found. Among them 3 species belongs to Penicillium veruculosum, were found more abundant. Bacterial isolates were also isolated from those soil samples. In total 26 species of bacterial isolates were isolated and identified.

<P>Differential cross sections of the reaction gamma d -> K+Sigma(-)(p) have been measured with the CLAS detector at Jefferson Lab using incident photons with energies between 1.1 and 3.6 GeV. This is the first complete set of strangeness photoproduction data on the neutron covering a broad angular range. At energies close to threshold and up to E-gamma similar to 1.8 GeV. the shape of the angular distribution is suggestive of the presence of s-channel production mechanisms. For E-gamma > 1.8 GeV, a clear forward peak appears and becomes more prominent as the photon energy increases, suggesting contributions from t-channel production mechanisms. <P>The f(1)(1285) meson withmass 1281.0 +/- 0.8MeV/c(2) and width 18.4 +/- 1.4MeV (full width at half maximum) was measured for the first time in photoproduction from a proton target using CLAS at Jefferson Lab. Differential cross sections were obtained via the eta pi(+)pi(-), K+(K) over bar (0) pi(-), and (K-K0)pi(+) decay channels from threshold up to a center-of-mass energy of 2.8 GeV. The mass, width, and an amplitude analysis of the eta pi(+)pi(-) final-state Dalitz distribution are consistent with the axial-vector J(P) = 1(+) f(1)(1285) identity, rather than the pseudoscalar 0(-) eta(1295). The production mechanism is more consistent with s-channel decay of a high-mass N* state and not with t-channel meson exchange. Decays to eta pi pi go dominantly via the intermediate a(0)(+/-) (980)pi(-/+) states, with the branching ratio Gamma [a(0)pi (no (K) over barK)]/Gamma[eta pi pi (all)] = 0.74 +/- 0.09. The branching ratios Gamma (K (K) over bar pi)/Gamma(eta pi pi) = 0.216 +/- 0.033 and Gamma (gamma rho(0))/Gamma(eta pi pi) = 0.047 +/- 0.018 were also obtained. The first is in agreement with previous data for the f(1)(1285), while the latter is lower than the world average.</P>

Moreover, we prove that there exists a homomorphism of monoids between (S d , ) to (N, +), where S d is a subset of S with an extra condition and N is the monoid of non negative integers under usual addition.

Understanding NaI(Tl) crystal background for dark matter searches

<P>We have developed ultra-low-background NaI(Tl) crystals to reproduce the DAMA results with the ultimate goal of achieving purity levels that are comparable to or better than those of the DAMA/LIBRA crystals. Even though the achieved background level does not approach that of DAMA/LIBRA, it is crucial to have a quantitative understanding of the backgrounds. We have studied background simulations toward a deeper understanding of the backgrounds and developed background models for a 9.16-kg NaI(Tl) crystal used in the test arrangement. In this paper we describe the contributions of background sources quantitatively by performing Geant4 Monte Carlo simulations that are fitted to the measured data to quantify the unknown fractions of the background compositions. In the fitted results, the overall simulated background spectrum well describes the measured data with a 9.16-kg NaI(Tl) crystal and shows that the background sources are dominated by surface Pb-210 and internal K-40 in the 2-6-keV energy interval, which produce 2.4 counts/day/keV/kg (dru) and 0.5 dru, respectively.</P>

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>We report the performance of an active veto system using a liquid scintillator with NaI(Tl) crystals for use in a dark matter search experiment. When a NaI(Tl) crystal is immersed in the prototype detector, the detector tags 48% of the internal <SUP>40</SUP>K background in the 0–10keV energy region. We also determined the tagging efficiency for events at 6–20keV as 26.5±1.7% of the total events, which corresponds to 0.76±0.04 events/keV/kg/day. According to a simulation, approximately 60% of the background events from U, Th, and K radioisotopes in photomultiplier tubes are tagged at energies of 0–10keV. Full shielding with a 40-cm-thick liquid scintillator can increase the tagging efficiency for both the internal <SUP>40</SUP>K and external background to approximately 80%.</P>
