For Zn anodes of aqueous rechargeable zinc-ion batteries, the poor electrochemical performance causedby undesirable zinc dendritic formation and side reactions limit their practical application. Herein, a Zn2+redistributor is created to reduce dendrites growth by inserting a cellulose triacetate (CTA) film as aninterlayer between the zinc anode and the separator. The zinc dendritic formation and side reactionscan be suppressed by the CTA interlayer. Consequently, the Zn anode covered by CTA interlayer exhibitshighly reversible plating/stripping behavior with lifetime exceeding 2500 h and 600 h at current densitiesof 1 and 5 mA cm2, respectively. In particular, the electrochemical performance of the full cells is investigatedby using VO2 as the cathode and the CTA as interlayer. The Zn + CTA||VO2 full cells exhibit superiorperformance including high reversible capacity (490.2 mAh g1 at 0.2 A g1), excellent cycle performance(60.2% and 71.5% capacity retention after 5000 cycles at 5 A g1 and 10 A g1) and superior rate performance. This work demonstrates that designing a CTA interlayer is considered a cost-effective strategy tolight up the practical application of aqueous zinc-ion batteries.

Background and Purpose The aim of this study was to identify the clinical characteristics and potential mechanisms relevant to pathological proteins in Parkinson’s disease (PD) patients who experience fatigue. Methods PD patients (n=102) were evaluated using a fatigue severity scale and scales for motor and nonmotor symptoms. The levels of three pathological proteins—α-synuclein oligomer, β-amyloid (Aβ)1-42, and tau—were measured in 102 cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) samples from these PD patients. Linear regression analyses were performed between fatigue score and the CSF levels of the above-listed pathological proteins in PD patients. Results The frequency of fatigue in the PD patients was 62.75%. The fatigue group had worse motor symptoms and anxiety, depression, and autonomic dysfunction. The CSF level of α-synuclein oligomer was higher and that of Aβ1-42 was lower in the fatigue group than in the non-fatigue group. In multiple linear regression analyses, fatigue severity was significantly and positively correlated with the α-synuclein oligomer level in the CSF of PD patients, after adjusting for confounders. Conclusions PD patients experience a high frequency of fatigue. PD patients with fatigue have worse motor and part nonmotor symptoms. Fatigue in PD patients is associated with an increased α-synuclein oligomer level in the CSF

Aphelinus asychis (Walker) is an effective biological control agent for many species of aphids found on various crops. To provide strategies for releasing these parasitoids into a crop ecosystem, the effects of a short-duration starvation experiment on A. asychis were measured under laboratory conditions using Myzus persicae (Sulzer) as the host on cabbage and chili pepper plants. The survival rate of starved A. asychis female adults decreased sharply as the starving time increased, and the longevity of the starved parasitoids also decreased significantly. The number of aphids killed by the parasitoids decreased gradually with the extended duration of starvation. In addition, the number of aphids on chili peppers and cabbages killed by starved A. asychis females over their lifespan was significantly lower than that in the control group. Our results indicated that a short period of starvation might not cause significantly negative effects on the parasitoids and may be beneficial for the control of M. persicae at low densities after 1 day; however, starvation for>1 day seriously affected the performance of A. asychis females over their entire lifespan. The parasitoids performed similarly when aphids were fed chili pepper or cabbage plants.
Meta-analysis of Gene Expression Data Identifies Causal Genes for Prostate Cancer
Wang, Xiang-Yang,Hao, Jian-Wei,Zhou, Rui-Jin,Zhang, Xiang-Sheng,Yan, Tian-Zhong,Ding, De-Gang,Shan, Lei Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2013 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.14 No.1
Prostate cancer is a leading cause of death in male populations across the globe. With the advent of gene expression arrays, many microarray studies have been conducted in prostate cancer, but the results have varied across different studies. To better understand the genetic and biologic mechanisms of prostate cancer, we conducted a meta-analysis of two studies on prostate cancer. Eight key genes were identified to be differentially expressed with progression. After gene co-expression analysis based on data from the GEO database, we obtained a co-expressed gene list which included 725 genes. Gene Ontology analysis revealed that these genes are involved in actin filament-based processes, locomotion and cell morphogenesis. Further analysis of the gene list should provide important clues for developing new prognostic markers and therapeutic targets.

In this study, the cDNA library of Chang-liver cells was immunoscreened using common ADAMs antibody to obtain ADAM related genes. We found one positive clone that was confirmed as a new gene by Blast, which is an uncharacterized helical and coil protein and processes protease activity, and named protease-related protein 1 (ARP1). The submitted GenBank accession number is AY078070. Molecular characterizations of ARP1 were analyzed with appropriate bioinformatics software. To analyse its expression and function, ARP1 was subcloned into glutathione S-transferase fusion plasmid pGEX-2T and expressed by E. coli system. The in vitro expression product of ARP1 was recognized by common ADAMs antibody with western blot. Interestingly, ARP1 cleaves gelatine at pH9.5, which suggests it is an alkaline protease. Semi-quantitative RT-PCR result indicates that ARP1 mRNA is strongly transcribed in the liver and the treated Chang-liver cells. [BMB reports 2010; 43(5): 375-381]

The limitations in current technology for generating transgenic animals, such as the time and the expense, hampered its extensive use in recombinant protein production for therapeutic purpose. In this report, we present a simple and less expensive alternative by directly infusing a recombinant adenovirus vector carrying human lactoferrin cDNA into rabbit mammary glands. The milk serum was collected from the infected mammary gland 48 h post-infection and subjected to a 10% SDS-PAGE and Western blotting. An 80-kDa protein was visualized after viral vector infection. With this method, we obtained a high level of expressed human lactoferrin of up to 2.3 mg/ml in the milk. Taken together, the method is useful for the transient high-level expression recombinant proteins, and the approach established here is probably one of the most economical and efficient ways for large-scale production of recombinant proteins of biopharmaceutical interest.

SOS response is a conserved response to DNA damage in prokaryotes and is negatively regulated by LexA protein, which recognizes specifically an “SOS-box” motif present in the promoter region of SOS genes. Myxococcus xanthus DK1622 possesses a lexA gene, and while the deletion of lexA had no significant effect on either bacterial morphology, UV-C resistance, or sporulation, it did delay growth. UV-C radiation resulted in 651 upregulated genes in M. xanthus, including the typical SOS genes lexA, recA, uvrA, recN and so on, mostly enriched in the pathways of DNA replication and repair, secondary metabolism, and signal transduction. The UV-irradiated lexA mutant also showed the induced expression of SOS genes and these SOS genes enriched into a similar pathway profile to that of wild-type strain. Without irradiation treatment, the absence of LexA enhanced the expression of 122 genes that were not enriched in any pathway. Further analysis of the promoter sequence revealed that in the 122 genes, only the promoters of recA2, lexA and an operon composed of three genes (pafB, pafC and cyaA) had SOS box sequence to which the LexA protein is bound directly. These results update our current understanding of SOS response in M. xanthus and show that UV induces more genes involved in secondary metabolism and signal transduction in addition to DNA replication and repair; and while the canonical LexA-dependent regulation on SOS response has shrunk, only 5 SOS genes are directly repressed by LexA.
Collision avoidance and orientation planning for ball-end cutter
Xiangyu Guo,Rui Wang,Shi-Sheng Zhong 대한기계학회 2023 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.37 No.8
Propeller blades have freeform surfaces, and the overlap among the blades limits the adjustment range of cutter orientation, making it extremely difficult to generate the required cutter orientation. Therefore, to assist in quickly designing a safe and reasonable machining scheme, a projection-offset method is designed to calculate the feasible region of a ballend cutter and an XYZ-3RPS hybrid kinematic mechanism. Based on this, a reasonable and smooth cutter orientation can be generated using path-planning and trajectory-optimization algorithms. To this end, a method for obtaining point clouds was first developed. By arranging the point clouds of a blank in the cutter path order, the changes to the blank during the machining process can be reflected through point-cloud deletion. A hierarchical bounding box is established for the moving platform of the cutter, spindle, and mechanism, which can realize the quick screening and classification of collision-point clouds. Second, the collision points are projected onto the same plane, an envelope boundary of the projected point cloud was constructed using an alpha-shapes algorithm, and its cross boundary trimmed using the auxiliary boundary method to obtain the feasible region at the cutter contact point. Moreover, to reduce the computational load, an interpolation method, which reduces the number of calculations, is used. The basic rules for cutter-orientation generation were established using a planning function. Then, the cutter-orientation path was smoothed using the trajectory-optimization algorithm to prevent the cutter from swinging violently. Finally, the effectiveness of this method was verified through propeller experiments.
