Background and Purpose The aim of this study was to identify the clinical characteristics and potential mechanisms relevant to pathological proteins in Parkinson’s disease (PD) patients who experience fatigue. Methods PD patients (n=102) were evaluated using a fatigue severity scale and scales for motor and nonmotor symptoms. The levels of three pathological proteins—α-synuclein oligomer, β-amyloid (Aβ)1-42, and tau—were measured in 102 cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) samples from these PD patients. Linear regression analyses were performed between fatigue score and the CSF levels of the above-listed pathological proteins in PD patients. Results The frequency of fatigue in the PD patients was 62.75%. The fatigue group had worse motor symptoms and anxiety, depression, and autonomic dysfunction. The CSF level of α-synuclein oligomer was higher and that of Aβ1-42 was lower in the fatigue group than in the non-fatigue group. In multiple linear regression analyses, fatigue severity was significantly and positively correlated with the α-synuclein oligomer level in the CSF of PD patients, after adjusting for confounders. Conclusions PD patients experience a high frequency of fatigue. PD patients with fatigue have worse motor and part nonmotor symptoms. Fatigue in PD patients is associated with an increased α-synuclein oligomer level in the CSF

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>In the course of an investigation of human neutrophil elastase (HNE) associated with inflammation, the extract of the flower parts of <I>Hypericum ascyron</I> showed a significant influence to HNE. The responsible metabolites to HNE inhibition were found to be eight polyprenylated acylphloroglucinols, PPAPs (<B>1</B>–<B>8</B>) which showed IC50 ranges between 2.4 and 19.9 μM. This is the first report to demonstrate that PPAP skeleton exhibits potent HNE inhibition. The compounds <B>1</B>–<B>3</B> were characterized and newly named as ascyronone E (IC50 = 4.3 μM), ascyronone F (IC50 = 19.9 μM), ascyronone G (IC50 = 4.5 μM) based on 2D-NMR spectroscopic data. In the kinetic analysis of double reciprocal plots, all the compounds showed noncompetitive behaviors to HNE enzyme with the remaining of <I>K</I> m and the increase of <I>V</I> max. The binding affinity levels (<I>K</I> SV) by using fluorescence were sufficient to be able to prove that PPAPs (<B>1</B>–<B>8</B>) had compliant interaction with inhibitory potencies.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Eight human neutrophil elastase (HNE) inhibitors were isolated from the flowers of <I>Hypericum ascyron.</I> </LI> <LI> Ascyronones E-G were identified as new polycyclic polyprenylated acylphloroglucinols (PPAPs). </LI> <LI> The isolated acylphloroglucinols showed a significant HNE inhibition with noncompetitive behavior. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

BackgroundHuman immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-negative plasmablastic lymphoma (PBL) is a rare entity of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). The clinicopathological features of and optimal treatment for HIV-negative PBL remain largely unknown.MethodsTo gain insight into this distinct lymphoma, we summarized the clinicopathologic charac-teristics of 8 unpublished HIV-negative PBLs and performed a comprehensive review of 394 published cases.ResultsOf the 8 unpublished PBLs, the median patient age was 53.0 years. Four patients pre-sented with stage IV disease. All 8 patients showed a plasma cell-like immunophenotype. Of the six patients who received anthracycline-based chemotherapy, including two who received bortezomib, three patients achieved a continuous complete response, two pa-tients died due to disease progression, and one patient was lost to follow-up. The other two patients achieved continuous complete response after receiving chemotherapy com-bined with radiotherapy and surgery. Of the 402 patients, the majority were male, with a mean age of 58.0 years. EBV infection was detected in 55.7% of the patients. The median survival times of the patients who received CHOP or CHOP-like regimens and intensive regimens were not reached and 23.0 months, respectively, and the intensive regimen did not improve the survival outcome (P=0.981). Multivariate analysis showed that EBER remained the only independent factor affecting overall survival (OS).ConclusionHIV-negative PBL is a distinct entity with a predilection for elderly and immunosup-pressed individuals. Intensive chemotherapy had no apparent survival benefits over the CHOP regimen in terms of OS; the prognosis of this disease is poor with current chemo-therapy methods, and treatment remains a challenge.

Baihua Village is a typical mountainous village in the southwest part of Lujiang county, Longyang District, Baoshan City, Yunnan Province. Residents there made a living on the land, including growing sugarcane and planting maize, whose annual income was no more than 2000 yuan before 2006. Since then when a research institute has set it as one of the pilot villages for mango growing impetus with sci-tech. For the sake of “One village and One Product”, mango breeding and relevant techniques have been applied to daily work. Within years, the developed model of has been explored: simply “villages are the main carriers facilitated by the specialized cooperative for mango growing, back-up by science and technology. Technical trainings serve as the driving force for the leading growers, meanwhile, sellers work as the bridge link the producing-end and the markets”.
Moisture Sorption and Thermodynamic Properties of Vacuum-Dried Capsosiphon fulvescens Powder
Li Zuo,Jong-Whan Rhim,Jun Ho Lee 한국식품영양과학회 2015 Preventive Nutrition and Food Science Vol.20 No.3
The moisture sorption isotherms of vacuum-dried edible green alga (Capsosiphon fulvescens) powders were determined at 25, 35, and 45℃ and water activity (aw) in the range of 0.11∼0.94. An inversion effect of temperature was found at high water activity (>0.75). Various mathematical models were fitted to the experimental data, and Brunauer, Emmett, and Teller model was found to be the most suitable model describing the relationship between equilibrium moisture content and water activity (<0.45). Henderson model could also provide excellent agreement between the experimental and predicted values despite of the intersection point. Net isosteric heat of adsorption decreased from 15.77 to 9.08 kJ/mol with an increase in equilibrium moisture content from 0.055 to 0.090 kg H₂O/kg solids. The isokinetic temperature (Tβ) was 434.79 K, at which all the adsorption reactions took place at the same rate. The enthalpy-entropy compensation suggested that the mechanism of the adsorption process was shown to be enthalpy-driven.
