The diazo reactive dye Navy blue HE2R (50 mg/L) was decolorized up to 91.2% within 48 h at static condition by the Exiguobacterium sp. isolated from the dyestuff contaminated soil, collected from the textile industrial area Solapur, India. It showed ability to decolorize seven different reactive textile dyes. Maximum decolorization was observed at 30℃ and pH 7. The presence and significant increase in the activity of enzymes lignin peroxidase, laccase, and azoreductase indicated prominent role of these enzymes in the decolorization of Navy blue HE2R. The degradation metabolites were analyzed by UV-Vis spectroscopy, TLC, HPLC, and FTIR spectroscopy. A possible pathway for biodegradation of this diazo reactive dye was proposed with the help of GC-MS analysis. The phytotoxicity studies confirmed the environmentally safe nature of degradation products.

Vanadium pentoxide (V2O5) mixed tungsten trioxide (WO3) thin films have been synthesized by a novel pulsed spray pyrolysis technique (PSPT) on glass and fluorine doped tin oxide (FTO) coated glass substrates at 400 C. Aqueous solutions of equimolar vanadium chloride and ammonium tungstate were mixed in volume proportions (5%, 10% and 15%) for the deposition of V2O5eWO3 thin films. The structural, morphological, optical and electrochemical properties of V2O5eWO3 thin films were investigated by FT-IR, XRD, SEM, cyclic voltammetry, chronoamperometry and chronocoulometry techniques. The results showed that the electrochemical properties of V2O5 were altered by mixing WO3. All the films exhibited cathodic electrochromism in lithium containing electrolyte (0.5 M LiClO4 þ propylene carbonate (PC)). Maximum coloration efficiency (CE) of about 49 cm2 C1 was observed for the V2O5 film mixed with 15% WO3. The electrochemical stability of the sample was examined and it was found to be stable up to 1000 cycles.

Bismuth strontium manganites (BSM) with variation in strontium content have been synthesized by simple solid state reaction method. X-ray diffraction data show that the samples have orthorhombic structure with crystallite size ~40 to 60 nm. SEM studies reveal morphology of micro-rods and micro-flakes. The dielectric constant (ε') and the dielectric loss (tan δ) decreases with the strontium content and the applied frequency which has been attributed to Maxwell-Wagner polarization. The microwave conductivity of samples decreases from 8.9 S/cm to 2.29 S/cm at 8.2 GHz as strontium increases. The penetration depth has also been reported at microwave frequencies from 8 - 18 GHz.
