        Effects of a High-Intensity Interval Physical Exercise Program on Cognition, Physical Performance, and Electroencephalogram Patterns in Korean Elderly People: A Pilot Study

        Background and Purpose: The effects of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) interventions on functional brain changes in older adults remain unclear. This preliminary study aimed to explore the effect of physical exercise intervention (PEI), including HIIT, on cognitive function, physical performance, and electroencephalogram patterns in Korean elderly people. Methods: We enrolled six non-dementia participants aged >65 years from a community health center. PEI was conducted at the community health center for 4 weeks, three times/week, and 50 min/day. PEI, including HIIT, involved aerobic exercise, resistance training (muscle strength), flexibility, and balance. Wilcoxon signed rank test was used for data analysis. Results: After the PEI, there was improvement in the 30-second sit-to-stand test result (16.2±7.0 times vs. 24.8±5.5 times, p=0.027), 2-minute stationary march result (98.3±27.2 times vs. 143.7±36.9 times, p=0.027), T-wall response time (104.2±55.8 seconds vs.71.0±19.4 seconds, p=0.028), memory score (89.6±21.6 vs. 111.0±19.1, p=0.028), executive function score (33.3±5.3 vs. 37.0±5.1, p=0.046), and total Literacy Independent Cognitive Assessment score (214.6±30.6 vs. 241.6±22.8, p=0.028). Electroencephalography demonstrated that the beta power in the frontal region was increased, while the theta power in the temporal region was decreased (all p<0.05). Conclusions: Our HIIT PEI program effectively improved cognitive function, physical fitness, and electroencephalographic markers in elderly individuals; thus, it could be beneficial for improving functional brain activity in this population.

        유 · 아동 영재교육의 동향

        This study has compared Korean early gifted education for the children with that of six countries which have implemented the gifted education for the children, such as America, Australia, Germany, Israel, Singapore and China. Based on the findings, the study examined the issues with the gifted education for children in Korea and find the systemized and effective model and directions for the gifted education. Korea lacks the educational facilities, the objective criteria, teachers’ training, for the gifted children. Also, Korea does not show diversity in the operating areas in the education for the gifted children. Thus, based on the issues, the tasks for the development of the policy on the education for the gifted young children in Korea can be proposed as follows. First, the educational facilities for the gifted children within the region for the young children in the lower grades in elementary school should be opened and run. Second, the criteria for distinguishing the gifted young children and the improvement in the system would be needed. Third, by strengthening the specialization of the teachers in charge of the education of the gifted children, the teachers who have the specialty in the education for the gifted infants and children should be fostered and the training of teachers and the certification system should be in place so that the benefits which fit the specialization and the efforts of the teachers can follow. Fourth, more diverse and high-quality education for the gifted children which takes the characteristics of the gifted young children would be required. 본 연구는 우리나라보다 먼저 유·아동 영재교육을 실시하고 있는 미국, 호주, 독일, 이스라엘, 싱가폴, 중국 6개국과 우리나라 조기 영재교육 시스템을 비교하여 체계적이고 효율적인 유·아동 영재교육의 모델과 방향을 모색해 보는 데에 목적이 있다. 영재교육에 관련된 국내·외 문헌 자료를 수집분석한 결과 우리나라는 유·아동 영재를 위한 영재교육기관과 유·아동 영재들을 판별하는 객관적도구, 유아-초등학교 저학년 영재를 위한 조기 영재판별 시스템과 영재교육 전문 담당 교사의 수급이 취약한 실정이며 영재교육 운영분야가 다양하지 못하다는 문제점을 보였다.

        Selection and Reporting of Statistical Methods to Assess Reliability of a Diagnostic Test: Conformity to Recommended Methods in a Peer-Reviewed Journal

        <P><B>Objective</B></P><P>To evaluate the frequency and adequacy of statistical analyses in a general radiology journal when reporting a reliability analysis for a diagnostic test.</P><P><B>Materials and Methods</B></P><P>Sixty-three studies of diagnostic test accuracy (DTA) and 36 studies reporting reliability analyses published in the <I>Korean Journal of Radiology</I> between 2012 and 2016 were analyzed. Studies were judged using the methodological guidelines of the Radiological Society of North America-Quantitative Imaging Biomarkers Alliance (RSNA-QIBA), and COnsensus-based Standards for the selection of health Measurement INstruments (COSMIN) initiative. DTA studies were evaluated by nine editorial board members of the journal. Reliability studies were evaluated by study reviewers experienced with reliability analysis.</P><P><B>Results</B></P><P>Thirty-one (49.2%) of the 63 DTA studies did not include a reliability analysis when deemed necessary. Among the 36 reliability studies, proper statistical methods were used in all (5/5) studies dealing with dichotomous/nominal data, 46.7% (7/15) of studies dealing with ordinal data, and 95.2% (20/21) of studies dealing with continuous data. Statistical methods were described in sufficient detail regarding weighted kappa in 28.6% (2/7) of studies and regarding the model and assumptions of intraclass correlation coefficient in 35.3% (6/17) and 29.4% (5/17) of studies, respectively. Reliability parameters were used as if they were agreement parameters in 23.1% (3/13) of studies. Reproducibility and repeatability were used incorrectly in 20% (3/15) of studies.</P><P><B>Conclusion</B></P><P>Greater attention to the importance of reporting reliability, thorough description of the related statistical methods, efforts not to neglect agreement parameters, and better use of relevant terminology is necessary.</P>

        국내 위암 환자 간호중재 연구에 대한 통합적 문헌고찰

        본 연구의 목적은 국내에서 진행된 위암 환자에 대한 간호중재 연구의 특징을 파악하여 추후 위암 간호중재 연구에 대한 방향성을 제시하기 위함이다. 국내에서 위암 환자를 대상으로 진행된 중재연구 8편에 대한 통합적 문헌고찰을 한 결과, 비동등성 대조군 사전 사후 시차설계가 6편, 무작위 대조군 전후 실험설계가 2편이었다. 중재 내용은 질환과 관련된 정보제공이 대부분이었고, 영양교육, 운동요법, 마사지 및 정서적 지지가 시행되었다. 국내 위암 환자 간호중재 프로그램의 효과는 결과변수에 따라 다르게 나타났으며, 다양한 간호중재 효과를 명확하게 결론지을 수 있도록 중재 전략을 강화할 필요가 있다. 위암 환자를 위한 간호중재의 지속적인 효과를 확인하기 위해서는 다양한 전환의 시점에서 종단적인 연구가 필요하며, 신체적, 정서적, 사회적 영역을 포함한 중재내용을 개발하여 임상현장 및 지역사회에서 적용할 수 있는 통합적 프로그램 개발이 필요할 것이다. The purpose of this study was to identify the characteristics of nursing intervention research for gastric cancer patients currently being conducted in Korea, and to suggest directions for future research. As a result of an integrated literature review of eight interventional studies conducted on gastric cancer patients in Korea, six pre-post lag designs for inequality controls and two before-and-after experimental designs for randomized controls were found. Most of the interventions involved providing disease-related information, nutrition education, exercise therapy, massage, and offering emotional support. The effects of nursing intervention programs for gastric cancer patients in Korea differed depending on the outcome variables. Intervention strategies need to be strengthened to allow clear conclusions to be drawn about the effects of various nursing interventions. To confirm the lasting effect of these nursing interventions, longitudinal studies are required at various transition points. It is also necessary to develop and implement an integrated program that can be applied both in clinical settings and local communities through interventions that include physical, emotional, and social domain development.
