        Synthesis and Characterization of Curcumin-Incorporated Glycopolymers with Enhanced Water Solubility and Reduced Cytotoxicity

        Curcumin is the physiologically and pharmacologically active component of turmeric (Curcuma longa L.) with attractive fluorescent property. However, the applications in live cell imaging field are restricted mainly due to the water-insolubility and cytotoxicity. To overcome this problem, curcumin-incorporated glycopolymers are synthesized by free radical copolymerization in this study. The glycopolymers are well-characterized by infrared spectroscopy (IR), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), gel permeation chromatography (GPC), UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy and photoluminescence spectroscopy. Furthermore, obtained glycopolymers are assayed by MTT assay and cell imaging for supporting the potential bio application. The MTT result indicates that the introduction of carbohydrate units can reduce the cytotoxicity of curcumin unit. The live cell imaging investigations reveal that the curcuminincorporated glycopolymers are good candidates for cell imaging and may find broad applications in biological areas such as biological diagnosis, imaging, and detection.

        Application of adaptive local iterative filtering in axis trace purification of turbine generator rotor

        In order to solve the problem that the measured axis trace is polluted by noise and can not reflect the real fault type of the turbine generator rotor, the adaptive local iterative filtering is applied to the purification of the axis trace of the generator rotor. As an adaptive mode decomposition method, adaptive local iterative filtering can adaptively decompose a complex original signal into a series of single components reflecting the wave nature of the signal, then, by calculating the correlation coefficient between the autocorrelation function of each decomposition component and the autocorrelation function of the original signal, the real intrinsic mode function is extracted, finally, the extracted intrinsic mode function is used to synthesize the signal to purify the axis trace. The simulation analysis and the purification results of the measured axis trace show that the adaptive local iterative filter can effectively avoid the false components in the decomposition process and is more favorable for extracting the signal features by introducing the Fokker-Planck equation to design the filter, compared with ensemble empirical mode decomposition, this method has better purification performance.

        Carcass Fat-free Lean Gain of Chinese Growing-finishing Pigs Reared on Commercial Farms

        Five regions and 258 pigs were selected for this study: North (Beijing), Central (Wuhan), South (Guangzhou), Southwest (Chongqing), Northeast (Harbin). Five typical genetics of growing-finishing pig were selected: Landrace${\times}$Large White${\times}$Beijing Black, Duroc${\times}$Landrace${\times}$Large White, Duroc${\times}$Large White${\times}$Landrace, Landrace${\times}$Rongchang, Landrace${\times}$Harbin White, respectively at each sites. The basal diet was a corn-soybean meal containing sufficient nutrients to meet requirements. Carcass fat-free lean gain was determined by dissecting and analyzing chemical composition of the carcass. Cubic function fitted lean moistures to live weights better than other functions. Exponential function fitted lean lipids to live weights equally to allometric function. Carcass fat-free lean gain of Duroc${\times}$Large White${\times}$Landrace, Landrace${\times}$Large White${\times}$Beijing Black, Duroc${\times}$Landrace${\times}$Large White, Landrace${\times}$Harbin White, Landrace${\times}$Rongchang from 20 to 100 kg of average body weight was 259 g/d, 261 g/d, 311 g/d, 220 g/d, 200 g/d, respectively. All are lower than intermediate fat-free lean gain in NRC (1998).

        Pneumococcal wall teichoic acid is required for the pathogenesis of Streptococcus pneumoniae in murine models

        Pneumococcal asymptomatic colonization of the respiratory tracts is a major risk for invasive pneumococcal disease. We have previously shown that pneumococcal wall teichoic acid (WTA) was involved in pneumococcal infection of sepsis and adherence to epithelial and endothelial cells. In this study, we investigated the contribution of pneumococcal WTA to bacterial colonization and dissemination in murine models. The result showed that nasopharynx colonizing D39 bacterial cells have a distinct phenotype showing an increased exposure of teichoic acids relative to medium-grown bacteria. The WTA-deficient mutants were impaired in their colonization to the nasopharynx and lungs, and led to a mild inflammation in the lungs at 36 h post-inoculation. Pretreatment of the murine nares with WTA reduced the ability of wild type D39 bacteria to colonize the nasopharynx. In addition, the WTA-deficient strain was impaired in its ability to invade the blood and brain following intranasal administration. WTA-deficient D39 strain was reduced in C3 deposition but was more susceptible to the killing by the neutrophils as compared with its parent strain. Our results also demonstrated that the WTA enhanced pneumococcal colonization and dissemination independently of the host strains. These results indicate that WTA plays an important role in pneumococcal pathogenesis, both in colonization and dissemination processes.

        Thermal creep behavior of CZ cladding under biaxial stress state

        Thermal creep is a key property of zircaloy cladding. CZ developed by CGN is a new zircaloy used as PWR fuel cladding. This research is devoted to investigating the thermal creep behavior of CZ and build the thermal creep model of CZ. Twenty internal pressure creep tests were conducted, and the ranges of temperature and Tresca stress were 320-430 ℃ and 70-300 MPa, respectively. Real-time creep data were analyzed by separating primary creep and steady-state creep. Based on Soderberg model and creep test data, CZ thermal creep model is derived. As a whole, the mean value and the standard deviation of P/M of CZ saturated primary creep strain are very close to these from steady-state creep rate, however, the predictive effect of primary creep is less satisfactory. Four conditions, where there exists large deviation between predicted values and test data, are 320 ℃ and 300 MPa, 350 ℃ and 190 MPa, 380 ℃ and 160 MPa, 380 ℃ and 190 MPa, respectively. As primary creep was much smaller than steady-state creep in long-time operation, the thermal creep model built can be applied to predict the thermal creep behavior of CZ cladding.

        An improved bearing fault diagnosis method based on variational mode decomposition and adaptive iterative filtering (VMD-AIF)

        Rolling bearings are widely applied in rotary machines. Bearing failures can lead to long machine downtime and costly maintenance. To reduce the maintenance time and cost, this article proposes a new denoising approach to remove heavy noise and extract weak bearing fault vibration features. The first step proposes a global variational mode decomposition (VMD) optimization algorithm that adaptively matches the optimal decomposition parameters based on kurtosis. In the second step, an adaptive selection criterion for IMF is developed by kurtosis theory. Meanwhile, an adaptive termination criterion is established based on sample entropy (SampEn), and the fault features are extracted with a Butterworth band-pass filter (BBF). Finally, actual fault-bearing experiments are performed using the proposed denoising approach. The comparison with respect to EEMD and WPD is illustrated in detail. The experimental result shows that the proposed approach is a validated tool for the diagnosis of bearings.

        Enhanced Robust Motion Tracking Control for 6 Degree-of-freedom Industrial Assembly Robot with Disturbance Adaption

        Industrial assembly robots are designed to enable accurate and repeatable tracking of the positions and orientations of the robot’s end-effector and are hence often required to perform complex tasks within uncertain environments. Therefore, trajectory tracking control is vital to the wide range of applications of industrial robotic systems. This paper presents an enhanced robust motion tracking controller with disturbance adaption for trajectory tracking control of industrial assembly robot. The dynamics of the industrial assembly robotic system is formulated in the working space of the end-effector and the tracking control problem is then formulated. The enhanced robust motion tracking control is synthesized by using disturbance adaption and modified iterative control terms, which is a refined version of conventional robust adaptive control with only disturbance rejection. The capability and effectiveness of the enhanced robust motion tracking control have been evaluated based on an industrial robotic platform. The comparative results clearly show that the proposed control can be used to better minimize the trajectory tracking errors in finite time as compared with conventional proportional derivative control.

        An Optimization Model for Low Carbon Oriented Modular Product Platform Planning (MP3)

        Consumers, industry, and government entities put more focus on the global warming. With this point in view, enterprises have started to take into account of the low carbon idea to develop products. Recently, lots of firms are using the Modular Product Platform Planning (MP3) between product generations for the rapid update of products with lesser production costs and time to market. Traditionally, MP3 mainly concerns on module sharing between product generations in modular planning, but pays no attention to the environmental concern which becomes an important design criterion due to the rising awareness of environmental protection. In this paper, an optimization model for low carbon oriented MP3 is presented. To support low carbon oriented MP3, this article proposed a probability approach to evaluate the scheme of modular planning for MP3. Meanwhile, a measurement method for low carbon performance of modular planning is provided. Then, an optimization model for low carbon oriented MP3 is formulated to determine the modular planning in pursuit of maximizing the low carbon performance of the product with controlling the implementation probability of MP3. Furthermore, an Adaptive Memetic Algorithm (AMA) is developed for solving the optimization problem. Finally, a case study is proposed to validate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

        Optimal Configuration and Economic Operation of Wind–Solar-Storage Complementary System for Agricultural Irrigation in Mountainous Areas

        The disorderly use of electricity in agriculture is a serious source of the current electricity tension, and as distributed energy is expediently promoted, it is becoming increasingly notable that the source network and load are not well coordinated. Small pumped storage power station is established in this paper using irrigation facilities and mountain height differences. On the basis of satisfying the electricity demand for irrigation, the capacity of pumping units and generating sets is configured prudently with wind farms and photovoltaic power stations. In addition, fluctuation smoothing is factored into consideration, the spectrum analysis method is utilized to calibrate the installed capacity. We develop a wind-solar-pumped storage complementary day-ahead dispatching model with the objective of minimizing the grid connection cost by taking into account the uncertainty of wind power and photovoltaic output and combining the complementary characteristics. The proposed model and method were validated through simulation on four typical days for a microgrid system. The simulation results demonstrate that the system fully utilizes new energy sources and successfully addresses the issue of water and electricity consumption for agricultural irrigation in mountainous regions. This system also offers a valuable concept for achieving low carbon and environmental protection for agricultural electricity consumption.
