        Creating a Public Sphere : A Self-Portrait in the Women's Studies Movement of China

        This self-portait of a Chinese Marxist and feminist academic woman reflects an experienced development of the Women's Studies Movement in China, a vast public sphere under the political system that has been labeled "centralized" or even, "totalitarian." While in college, being disappointed to discover no woman visible in the disciplines of history or philosophy, she turned to women in literature. She then found a "blank in science," i.e. the lack of a women's perspective, and has tried to fill that gap through a compilation of Chinese women's history on the one hand and through the study of Marxism and western feminism on the other. Despite some pessimism and criticism of her, the more she learned about women's lives, the more she realized that a movement for women, in the form of education and research, was inevitable. The movement should be beyond Marx, who presented his own ideas on women, but not a theoretical abstraction of women, from the tradition of women being molded by the state, and also deviate from the western feminist movement. She initiated a course in women's studies as well as a consciousness-raising program for those Chines women who, with the socialist "gift" of "equality with men," refused or feared to identify themselves as women. She also helped establish the Women's Association, the first "true" NGO in China, and the Women's Studies Center at Zhengzhou University. Together with her own research and writing about women, these are central features of the Women's Studies Movement in China. The process of these developments and the "tactics" used are described in detail.

        125I Seed Permanent Implantation as a Palliative Treatment for Stage III and IV Hypopharyngeal Carcinoma

        Objectives. The aim of this study was to investigate the feasibility and safety of percutaneous 125I seed permanent implantation for advanced hypopharyngeal carcinoma from toxicity, tumor response, and short-term outcome. Methods. 125I seeds implant procedures were performed under computed tomography for 34 patients with advanced hypopharyngeal carcinoma. We observed the local control rate, overall survival, and acute or late toxicity rate. Results. In the 34 patients (stage III, n=6; stage IV, n=28), the sites of origin were pyriform sinus (n=29) and postcricoid area (n=5). All patients also received one to four cycles of chemotherapy after seed implantation. The post-plan showed that the actuarial D90 of 125I seeds ranged from 90 to 158 Gy (median, 127 Gy). The mean follow-up was 12.3 months (range, 3.4 to 43.2 months). The local control was 2.1–31.0 months with a median of 17.7 months (95% confidence interval [CI], 13.4 to 22.0 months). The 1-, 2-, and 3-year local controls were 65.3%, 28.6%, and 9.5% respectively. Twelve patients (35%) died of local recurrence, fourteen patients (41%) died of distant metastases, and three patients (9%) died of recurrence and metastases at the same time. Five patients (15%) still survived to follow-up. At the time of analysis, the median survival time was 12.5 months (95% CI, 9.5 to 15.4 months). The 1-, 2-, and 3-year overall survival rates were 55.2%, 20.3%, and 10.9%, respectively. Five patients (15%) experienced grade 3 toxic events and nine patients (26%) have experienced grade 2 toxic events. Conclusion. This review shows relatively low toxicity for interstitial 125I seed implantation in the patients with advanced stage hypopharyngeal cancer. The high local control results suggest that 125I seed brachytherapy implant as a salvage or palliative treatment for advanced hypopharyngeal carcinoma merit further investigation.

        Driving Mechanism of CSR Strategy in Chinese Construction Companies based on Neo-Institutional Theory

        Chinese construction companies, represented by huge Chinese construction corporations (HCCCs), have taken steps to develop their CSR (corporate social responsibility) strategy. To investigate the driving mechanisms of the CSR strategy of HCCCs, an analytical framework is proposed based on neo-institutional theory to explore how organizational legitimacy affects managerial perceptible institutional pressures and ultimately affects the development of CSR strategy. Specific scales were developed for HCCCs, and a questionnaire survey was conducted. Structural equation modelling was adopted to verify the paths proposed by the theoretical model. The results show that the expectations of the public and subcontractors/suppliers do not constitute sources of HCCCs’ organizational legitimacy. Different stakeholders have different influences on different institutional pressures. Environmental organizations have the most prominent effects. Government can reduce concerns about the CSR performance of HCCCs in society, and clients have a significant influence on the formation of institutional pressure, but employees' demands still need to be taken seriously by management. Additionally, due to the lack of regulations and norms in China, the promotion of CSR strategies relies mainly on the spontaneous demands of HCCCs. The applicability of neo-institutional theory to construction corporations is verified. The identified driving mechanisms help to effectively promote business strategy for HCCCs.

        Enhanced separation for paraffin wax using CO2-responsive emulsions based on switchable hydrophilicity solvents

        Wax precipitation leads to destructive harms in the exploitation and transportation of petroleum. Solventtreatments can remove paraffin wax easily but the separation of solvent relying on distillation is admittedinefficient. Aiming at enhancing the separation and recovery performance of paraffin wax, CO2-responsive emulsion (SHS/W emulsion) based on switchable hydrophilicity solvents (SHS) is adopted. Since the paraffin wax is dissolved, emulsified, and dispersed by SHS/W emulsion, SHS/W emulsion exhibitsbetter removal performance than SHS. The paraffin wax is recovered effectively upon introducingCO2, which attributes to the transformation of SHS from hydrophobic to hydrophilic state. Comparedwith the SHS system, the recovery of paraffin wax is improved obviously by introducing surfactantSpan80. Owing to the deprotonation of SHS by bubbling N2 and heating, 77.6% SHS is recycled after recoveringparaffin wax. Here, the recycled SHS can be used to realize the removal of paraffin wax again. Thus,it is a promising and alternative strategy for realizing the sustainable and rapid removal of paraffin wax inthe petroleum industry.

        A New Type of CPPM Machine with Stator Axial Magnetic Ring

        This paper proposes a new type of consequent-pole permanent-magnet (CPPM) machine with stator axial magnetic ring that increases torque capability over a wide speed range and enhances efficiency for the built-in rare-earth permanent magnet synchronous machine used in new energy vehicles. The excitation winding of the CPPM hybrid excitation synchronous machine in the stator is replaced by ferrite magnetic ring to simplify the structure and manufacturing process of the machine. The basic structure and magnetic regulation principle of the proposed machine are introduced and compared with the traditional interior rare-earth permanent magnet synchronous machine and CPPM hybrid excitation synchronous machine. Finally, experimental results of a new type of CPPM synchronous motor prototype with axial magnetic ring are introduced in the paper.

        Large-scale pilot test study on bearing capacity of sea-crossing bridge main pier pile foundations

        Due to the sea-crossing bridge span is generally large and main pier pile foundations are located in deep water and carry large vertical load, sea-crossing bridge main pier pile foundations bearing mechanism and load deformation characteristics are still vague. Authors studied the vertical bearing properties of sea-crossing bridge main pier pile foundations through pilot load tests. Large tonnage load test of Qingdao Bay Bridge main pier pile program is designed by using per-stressed technique to optimize the design of anchor pile reaction beam system. Test results show that the design is feasible and effective. This method can directly test bearing capacity of main pier pile foundations, and analysis bearing behaviors from test results of sensors which embedded in the pile. Through test study the vertical bearing properties of main pier pile foundation and compared with the generally short pile, author summarized the main pier pile foundations vertical bearing capacity and the main problem of design and construction which need to pay attention, and provide a reliable basis and experience for sea-crossing bridge main pier pile foundations design and construction.

        Chemical constituents from Phyllanthus emblica and the cytoprotective effects on H2O2-induced PC12 cell injuries

        Two new compounds (1–2), including a bisabolane-type sesquiterpenoid (1), one new diphenyl ether derivative (2), together with 23 known compounds (3–25), were isolated from the fruits of Phyllanthus emblica. Their structures were elucidated by detailed spectroscopic analysis. All the isolated compounds were screened for the DPPH scavenging effects and cytoprotective effects against H2O2 induced PC12 cells injury. Compounds 12–15 showed significant DPPH scavenging effects with the IC50 values in the range of 3.25–4.18 lM. Among these potential antioxidants, compound 14 improved the survival of PC12 cells after H2O2 exposure without showing any cytotoxicity at the tested concentrations.
