Sarcomatoid Carcinoma Arising from Mature Cystic Teratoma
Ho-Chang Lee1, Seung-Myoung Son, Yong-Moon Lee, Ji Hae Koo, Song-Yi Choi, Ok-Jun Lee, Eun-Hwan Jeong 충북대학교 동물의학연구소 2012 Journal of Biomedical and Translational Research Vol.13 No.2
Malignant transformation of mature cystic teratoma (MCT) is rare. Sarcomatoid carcinoma is a neoplasm comprising malignant mesenchymal cells and a conventional carcinomatous area. Here, we report on a case of sarcomatoid carcinoma arising from an MCT in the left ovary of a 45-year-old female. A unilocular cyst consistent with MCT was observed; however, a nodule within the cyst was confirmed from the resected ovary. Microscopically, the nodule showed both squamous cell carcinoma and pleomorphic sarcomatous components admixing with each other. Lining epithelial cells at the periphery of the main tumor showed squamous metaplasia. When a sarcomatous component is observed in the ovary tumor, it is important to find a squamous cell component, either benign or malignant.
Tenacibaculum crassostreae sp. nov., isolated from the Pacific oyster, Crassostrea gigas.
Lee, Young Sun,Baik, Keun Sik,Park, So Yeon,Kim, Eun Mi,Lee, Dong-Heon,Kahng, Hyung-Yeel,Jeon, Che Ok,Jung, Jae Sung Society for General Microbiology 2009 International journal of systematic and evolutiona Vol.59 No.7

A rod-shaped, yellow-pigmented, aerobic, Gram-negative bacterium, designated strain JO-1(T), was isolated from an apparently healthy Pacific oyster, Crassostrea gigas, collected at Wan Island, Korea. It grew at 15-37 degrees C (optimum 30 degrees C) only in the presence of sea salts. Strain JO-1(T) hydrolysed casein, Tween 80 and starch. The major fatty acids were iso-C(15 : 0) (23.8 %), summed feature 3 (comprising C(16 : 1)omega7c and/or iso-C(15 : 0) 2-OH; 14.5 %) and iso-C(15 : 1) G (14.1 %). Analysis of the 16S rRNA gene sequence indicated that strain JO-1(T) was a member of the genus Tenacibaculum in the family Flavobacteriaceae, with sequence similarity of 94.6-97.8 % to the type strains of recognized members of the genus. The G+C content of the genomic DNA was 31.4 mol%. DNA-DNA relatedness levels between strain JO-1(T) and the five closest relatives, Tenacibaculum litoreum KCCM 42115(T), T. lutimaris KCTC 12302(T), T. aestuarii KCTC 12569(T), T. mesophilum DSM 13764(T) and T. adriaticum JCM 14633(T), were less than 28 %. Phylogenetic analyses and differences in physiological and biochemical characteristics suggested that strain JO-1(T) (=KCTC 22329(T) =JCM 15428(T)) should be classified as the type strain of a novel species within the genus Tenacibaculum, for which the name Tenacibaculum crassostreae sp. nov. is proposed.

Antidiabetic Coumarin and Cyclitol Compounds from Peucedanum japonicum
Lee, Sung-Ok,Choi, Sang-Zin,Lee, Jong-Hwa,Chung, Sung-Hyun,Park, Sang-Hyun,Kang, Hee-Chol,Yang, Eun-Young,Cho, Hi-Jae,Lee , Kang-Ro The Pharmaceutical Society of Korea 2004 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.27 No.12
The antidiabetic activity-guided fractionation and isolation of the 80% EtOH extracts from Peucedani Radix (Peucedanum japonicum, Umbelliferae) led to the isolation and characterization of a coumarin and a cyclitol as active principles, that is, peucedanol 7-O-${\beta}$ -D-glucopyranoside (1) and myo-inositol (2). Their structures were identified by spectroscopic methods. Compound 1 showed 39% inhibition of postprandial hyperglycemia at 5.8 mg/kg dose, and compound 2 also significantly inhibited postprandial hyperglycemia by 34% (P<0.05).
Epidemiological Studies of Avian Paramyxovirus Type 4 and 6 in Commercial Chicken Flocks in Korea
Lee, Hae Rim,Koo, Bon-Sang,Jeon, Eun-Ok,Han, Moo-Sung,Min, Kyung-Cheol,Lee, Seung Baek,Bae, Yeonji,Choi, Kang-Seuk,Shin, Jeong-Hwa,Mo, In-Pil The Korean Society of Poultry Science 2013 韓國家禽學會誌 Vol.40 No.4
Avian paramyxovirus (APMV) type 4 and 6 were isolated during an avian influenza (AI) surveillance program of wild birds. This study also conducted experimental infection of wild-bird-origin APMV type 4 and 6 in specific pathogen free (SPF) chickens to study pathogenicity and transmission within domestic flocks. In addition, serological prevalence data of APMV type 4 and 6 in domestic fowls was conducted with chicken sera collected from 2007 to 2009 in order to understand infection status. The results of the animal experiment showed that APMV type 4 and 6 had the ability to infect chickens with sero-conversion and to transmit the virus from infected birds to contacted birds, but showed low pathogenicity. Serological tests revealed that APMV type 4 was widespread in the poultry industry, especially in layer flocks, but the positive rate for APMV type 6 was very low. This study concluded that wild bird-origin APMV type 4 and 6 could infect the chickens by inter-species transmission and the seroprevalence of APMV type 4 was quite high in Korean poultry. However, since almost all the chicken flocks had a high level of antibody titer against APMV type 1, there was possibility of cross reaction between APMV type 1 and 4, which made the interpretations more complicated. In order to understand infection status in the natural environment, additional study is necessary regarding the seroprevalence of APMV type 4 and 6 in the wild bird population.
Gender Impact Assessment of the National Posting Project of Licensed Exercise Instructors
( Eun Ha Koh ),( Yong Sik Lee ),( Young Ok Park ),( Seong Sik Cho ),( Mi Kyung Hwang ) 체육과학연구원 2010 International Journal of Applied Sports Sciences Vol.22 No.2
This study aims to analyze the national posting project of licensed exercise instructors with gender-sensitive approach by conducting a gender impact assessment. This research explored gender issues that influenced immensely the planning, management and evaluation stages of the project, and suggested some recommendations. The gender impact assessment was drawn up by employing 8 evaluation indexes and 11 detailed questions. Major findings are as follows: First, in planning and decision-making stages, the national posting project did not reflect the current demands of instructors concerning gender perspectives. And the ratio of female members in charge of sports in all committees in local organizations was very low. Second, in the operating stage, there was no gender discrimination in the procedures of advertisement and engagement of instructors. However, there is a possibility that female instructors are restricted to a few sports such as aerobics, dancing and weight training. Third, in the evaluation stage, the participation ratio in this project and the satisfaction level of female instructors were high. However, further attention is needed to the fact that female instructors tend to work in poorer circumstances in the labor market and thus reveal less dissatisfaction than their male counterparts as well as to the possibility that male managers do not have such gender-sensitivity as to notice problems. Finally, government officers, administrators at sport organizations and local managers should have gender-sensitivity and consider gender equality as an important factor in posting exercise instructors. It is necessary to encourage female instructors` professional growth and development and enhance the position of women within all the service areas of public sports.
