Deacylated lipooligosaccharides (dLOSs) were developed as human vaccine adjuvants. The dLOSs have significant immune activities and markedly lower toxicities than their precursors, lipopolysaccharides (LPSs). In this study, we developed a novel liquid chromatography mass spectrometry (LC?MS) method for characterization of the dLOSs. The structural identification and characterization of the dLOSs were carried out using electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometric experiments. Finally, we propose the most likely structure of the dLOSs as being composed of a diacyl form of lipid A with seven sugars, 3 HEP?+?2 KDO?+?1 GlcN?+?1 Glc.

Background/Aims: There are limited data regarding the clinical outcomes of self-expandable metal stents in the treatment of proximal colon obstruction. We compared the clinical outcomes of stent placement in patients with malignant proximal to distal colon obstructions. Methods: We reviewed medical records from 37 consecutive patients from three institutions (19 men; mean age, 72 years) who underwent endoscopic stent placement at a malignant obstruction of the proximal colon. We also examined the records from 99 patients (50 men; mean age, 65 years) who underwent endoscopic stent placement for a distal colon obstruction. Technical success, clinical improvements, complications and stent patency were compared between treatments. Results: The technical success rate tended to be lower in stents inserted to treat proximal colon obstructions than in those used to treat distal colon obstructions (86% vs 97%, p=0.06). Clinical improvement was achieved in 78% of patients (29/37) with proximal colonic stenting and in 91% of patients (90/99) with distal colonic stenting (p=0.08). Complications (24% vs 27%), stent migration (8% vs 8%) and stent reocclusion rates (11% vs 17%) did not differ signifi cantly between groups. Two cases of bowel perforation related to stenting (5%) occurred in patients with proximal colonic stenting. Conclusions: The technical success and clinical improvement associated with self-expandable metal stents used to treat proximal colon obstruction tend to be lower than cases of distal colon obstruction. Technical failure is an important cause of poor clinical improvement in patients with proximal colon stenting. Complication rates and stent patency appear to be similar in both groups. Device Coupling Effects of Monolithic 3D Inverters
Yu, Yun Seop,Lim, Sung Kyu The Korea Institute of Information and Commucation 2016 Journal of information and communication convergen Vol.14 No.1
The device coupling between the stacked top/bottom field-effect transistors (FETs) in two types of monolithic 3D inverter (M3INV) with/without a metal layer in the bottom tier is investigated, and then the regime of the thickness TILD and dielectric constant εr of the inter-layer distance (ILD), the doping concentration Nd (Na), and length Lg of the channel, and the side-wall length LSW where the stacked FETs are coupled are studied. When Nd (Na) < 1016 cm-3 and LSW < 20 nm, the threshold voltage shift of the top FET varies almost constantly by the gate voltage of the bottom FET, but when Nd (Na) > 1016 cm-3 or LSW > 20 nm, the shift decreases and increases, respectively. M3INVs with TILD ≥ 50 nm and εr ≤ 3.9 can neglect the interaction between the stacked FETs, but when TILD or εr do not meet the above conditions, the interaction must be taken into consideration.

Mesenchymal stem cells can differentiate into multiple lineages depending on their exposure to differing biochemical and biomechanical inductive factors. The Ganglioside is included in biomarker, that are the major component of cytoplasmic cell membranes complex glycosphingolipids, and play a role in the control of biological processes. However, role of ganglioside in osteogenesis of mini-pig adipose derived mesenchymal stem cells (AD-MSCs) unclear . We have knocked down was ganglioside synthase UDP-glucose ceramide glucosyltransferase (UGCG)using a siRNA differentiation into osteoblast was markedly decreased in UGCG-knocked down AD-MSCs. The results showed significant inhibits alkaline phosphatase, osteocalcin, osteopontin, and Runt-related transcription factor 2 in UGCG knock down AD-MSCs compared to with the control AD-MSCs. Thus we guess, maybe ganglioside is essential factor to stimulate osteogenesis in AD-MSCs.

We determined the nationwide seroprevalence of hepatitis E virus (HEV) infection in the wild boar population in Korea. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) results showed that 42% of the 528 wild boars that were hunted between 2013 and 2014 were anti-HEV antibody positive. Furthermore, all Korean provinces showed an HEV seroprevalence between 9.8% and 51.1%, suggesting that wild boar HEV infection occurs throughout the country. Importantly, infected wild boar could act as a potential reservoir for HEV and could aid transmission to other animals and humans.

Background/Aims: We assessed the bolus transit and motility characteristics in gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) patients with abnormal esophageal pH monitoring. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the combined impedance-esophageal manometry data from consecutive patients who had abnormal acid exposure during 24-hour esophageal pH monitoring. We compared these data to the results from functional heartburn (FH) and asymptomatic volunteers. Results: The data from 33 GERD patients (mean age of 51 years, 18 males), 14 FH patients (mean age of 51 years, one male), and 20 asymptomatic volunteers (mean age of 27 years, nine males) were analyzed. Ineffective esophageal motility was diagnosed in 10% of the volunteers, 21% of the FH patients, and 15% of the GERD patients. Ineffective contraction was more frequent in GERD and FH patients than in volunteers (16% and 20% vs 6%, respectively; p<0.05). Additionally, 10% of the volunteers, 21% of the FH patients and 36% of the GERD patients had an abnormal bolus transit. Complete bolus transit was less frequent, and bolus transit was slower in GERD patients than in volunteers for liquid (70% vs 85%) and viscous swallows (57% vs 73%). A longer acid clearance time was associated with abnormal bolus transit in the GERD group. Conclusions: Patients with GERD have mild peristaltic dysfunction and incomplete and slower esophageal bolus transit. These conditions predispose them to prolonged acid contact with the esophagus. Chemicals related to hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and nitric oxide (NO) generations were exogenously applied to Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. fragariae (Fof ) causing Fusarium wilt disease in strawberry plants, and regulations of in vitro conidial germination and mycelial growth of the fungus by the chemical treatments were evaluated. H2O2 drastically reduced the conidial germination of Fof in a dose-dependent manner, and treatment with 3-amino-1,2,4-triazole (3-AT) catalase inhibitor also led to dose-dependent inhibition of conidial germination but relatively moderately. Gradual decreases in mycelial growth of Fof were found by high concentrations of H2O2, whilst exogenous 3-AT slightly increased the mycelial growth. Increasing sodium nitroprusside (SNP) NO donor, NG-nitro-l-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME) NO synthase (NOS)-inhibitor and tungstate nitrate reductase (NR) inhibitor led to dose-dependent reductions in conidial germination of Fof in quite different levels. SNP conversely increased the mycelial growth but increasing L-NAME moderately decreased the mycelial growth. Tungstate strongly enhanced mycelial growth. Differentially regulated in vitro mycelial growths of Fof were demonstrated by SNP, L-NAME and tungstate with or without H2O2 supplement. Superoxide anion production was also regulated during the mycelial growth of Fof by nitric oxide. These results show that H2O2 and NO-associated enzymes can be suggested as fungal growth regulators of Fof as well as eco-friendly disease-managing agents in strawberry production fields.
