        Two adaptive control schemes, direct and indirect, are applied to a steam generating unit(200MW) with nonlinearities which are due to strong couplings between input-output variables. In the direct adaptive scheme the controller parameters are determined by using the tracking error between the output variable of reference model and that of actual plant. The Hopfield network-based identifier is introduced in the indirect approach to estimate the unknown parameters of the boiler system and the controller paprameters are determined based on the concept of certainty equivalence control. The performance of two proposed adaptive controllers is investigated. Simulations are performed in various operating conditions and the results show the robustness of the overall control system against unmodelled dynamics and parameter variations.

        췌십이지장절제술 후 발생한 지속적인 구토증과 Wernicke 뇌병증

        Wernicke encephalopathy is an acute neurologic disorder attributable to thiamine (vitamin B1) deficiency. We report the case of a 61-year-old female patient who presented Wernicke encephalopathy after surgery for pancreatic head cancer. From the ninth postoperative day, she had suffered from nausea and vomiting and had difficulties ingesting food, she was given total parenteral nutrition (TPN), but lacked adequate vitamin (thiamine) supplementation. After 28 days, she developed ataxia, ophthalmoplegia, and mental confusion. The magnetic resonance image showed pathologic changes in the medial thalamus,periaqueductal gray matter, medulla and mamillary bodies. The blood level of thiamine was very low. After intravenous and oral supplementation of thiamine (200 mg/day), consciousness was soon normalized and neurologic symptoms have gradually been improving. Nausea and vomiting disappeared after administration of a low dose of mirtazapine (7.5 mg/day). We emphasize the importance of thiamine supplementation to the patients who suffer from vomiting which hinders them from taking food and who require prolonged TPN.

        In this paper, a theoretical optimization approach is presented in order to consider natural frequencies for vibration transmitted to the fuselage. Also, this paper describes methods for reduction of structural vibration by the optimal placement of masses for formal mathematical optomization techniques. An optimization procedure is developed which employs the tuning masses and corresponding locations as design valiables which are systematically changed to achieve low values of shear without a large mass penalty. Three optimazation strategies are developed and tested. The first is based on minimizing the modal shaping parameter which indirectly reduce the modal shear amplitudes corresponding to each harmonic of airload. The second strategy reduces these amplitudes directly and the third strategy reduces the shear as a function of time during a revolution of the blade.

        Frozen dough of two flour, Tazo and Tazo-S, and two thawing, room and cold temperature, were determined to qualified bread quality. For best bread quality from frozen doughs, very strong flour should be used. Frozen doughs are increasingly being produced in the baking industry even though they generally provide bread with lower loaf volume than dose unfrozen fresh dough. Several investigators have reported that the major changes in doughs that have been frozen are related to yeast. During the dough fermentation, yeast produces carbon dioxide and flavor compounds. Loaf volume decreased markedly with freezing and thawing, and gradually during frozen storage.

        친환경농업 시범마을에 대한 환경영향평가

        1999년부터 2001년까지 3년간 친환경농업 시범마을에 적용되고 있는 INM (Integrated Nutrient Management) and IPM (Integrated Pest Management) 실천에 따른 추진효과를 분석하기 위하여 시범마을로 지정된 옥천과 양평지역의 농가 포장에서 시비량, 양분유실 및 생태계 변화 등을 조사 분석하였다. 3요소 시비량은 토양검정시비로 인하여 농가관행시비와 비교하여 28.6~39.4% 절감할 수 있었으며, 쌀 수량도 시비량이 비교적 적은 토양검정 시비구에서 3~10% 증수하였다. 영농기간동안 토양 침투수중 NO₃-N 농도는 농가관행 시비구 2.9 ㎎/L에 비하여 토양검정 시비구는 1.5 ㎎/L로 감소하였으며, 시범마을 논으로 유입되는 관개수의 COD, NH₄-N, NO₃-N 농도는 각각 15.0, 0.67, 1.39 ㎎/L, 시범마을 논에서 배출된 용수는 각각 12.4, 0.29, 2.42 ㎎g/L로 감소되는 경향이었다. 처리별 수서곤충, 환형동물, 패류 및 감각류 등의 개체수는 농가관행구 100에 대하여 토양검정 시비구 293, 토양검정과 개량제 혼용구 276, 무비구 90으로 토양검정 시비구에서 많았으며 수서 무척추 동물은 관행농업을 수행하고 있는 지역을 100으로 볼 때 친환경농업마을은 242와 443으로 INM과 IPM을 실천하는 시범마을에서 생물종이 다양하고 그 개체수가 많은 것으로 나타났다. 친환경농업 시범마을 조성 후 작물 추천시비량 준수와 적기 예찰을 통하여 필요이상 사용되는 비료와 농약을 절감하여 생태계의 개선과 토양이 건전화된 것으로 평가되었다. In order to preserve the soundness of ago-ecosystem and products safety in agriculture, this study was evaluated environmental impact in relation to the INM (Integrated Nutrient Management) and IPM (Integrated Pest Management) at paddy fields at Ok-Chun and Yang-Pyung region. By introduction of INM with the application of BB(bulk-blanded) fertilizer based on soil analysis and EM, the application rate of fertilizer was reduced to about 28.6-39.4% and the yield of brown rice was increased to about 3-10% compared to conventional practices. The concentrations of COD, NH4-N, and NO3-N in irrigation water flowed to the environmental-friendly agriculture practices were 15.0, 0.67, and 1.39 ㎎/L, respectively. The concentrations of COD, NH₄-N, and NO₃-N from paddy fields in drainage water were 12.4, 0.29, and 2.42 ㎎/L, respectively. The total number of the freshwater invertebrates was higher in field treated with fektilhtion by prescription with soil testing. Also, the population density of aquatic insects was higher than the other fields at both demonstration villages. In conclusion, it was possible to reduce the amount of fertilizer and agricultural chemicals application, and increase the yield of rice by application of the environmental-friendly agriculture practices.

        Background : Mucins possess the unique function of protecting and lubricating the epithelial surface and other important functions such as call growth, direct implication in the fetal development, the epithelial renewal and differentiation, the epithelial integrity, carcinogenesis, immune regulation, cellular adhesion and metastasis. Purpose : This study was done to provide the significance of alteration of MUC1 and MUC2 expression in colorectal adenocarcinoma, A series of 131 colorectal adenocarcinomas including 11 mucinous carcinomas were screened immunohistochemically for their expression of MUCI and MUC2, Materials and mehtods : Of 131 carcinomas, 76 (58,5%) were MUCI positive and 91 (68, 9%) were MUC2 positive, In normal colonic goblet cells, MUCl was not expressed but MUC2 was expressed in cytoplasm, Conclusion There were up-regulation of MUCI and down-regulation of MUC2 in colorectal carcinomas, The frequency of MUC2 positivity according to differentiation was statistically reliable.         광주지역 소아에서 유행한 호흡기바이러스 유행양상 분석

        Background : This investigation was to perform the epidemiological surveillance and genetic analysis on respiratory viral agents from children with acute respiratory infections in Gwangju. Materials and Methods : For this study, 3,695 specimens obtained from patients with acute respiratory infections were collected by collaboration with pediatric hospitals in Gwangju between 2005 and 2007. Specimens were screened for 8 respiratory viruses including influenza viruses (IFV), human rhinoviruses (HRV), human coronaviruses (HCoV), adenoviruses (ADV), parainfluenza viruses (PIV), human enteroviruses (HEV), respiratory synthitial viruses (RSV) and human bocaviruses (HBoV). Respiratory viruses were detected using multiplex (RT) PCR with viral specific primers. Results : Out of 3,695 specimens, the ratio of virus detection was 24.9% (919). Overall, HRV (35.5%) and IFV (34.9%) were the most common viruses found, followed by HBoV (14.8%), HCoV (10.6%), RSV (3.7%), ADV (3.4%), PIV (3.2%) and HEV (3.0%). In addition, multiple infections were detected in 80 patients (8.7%). When the prevalence was analyzed according to season, HBoV, IFV and HCoV showed two epidemic points in late spring and early winter. ADV, HRV, RSV PIV and HEV, however, were all found to have only one epidemic point, with RSV being most common during winter and the others being most prominent during spring. Conclusions : Through this epidemiological surveillance, the respiratory viruses prevalent in children in Gwanaju area were investigated. We strongly recommend the development of nationwide policy for the management of prevalent respiratory virus that includes long term collection of data and samples, vaccine development and prevention education of the misuse of antibiotics.

      • Si–Mn/Reduced Graphene Oxide Nanocomposite Anodes with Enhanced Capacity and Stability for Lithium-Ion Batteries

        <P>Although Si is a promising high-capacity anode material for Li-ion batteries (LIB), it suffers from capacity fading due to excessively large volumetric changes upon Li insertion. Nanocarbon materials have been used to enhance the cyclic stability of LIB anodes, but they have an inherently low specific capacity. To address these issues, we present a novel ternary nanocomposite of Si, Mn, and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) for LIB anodes, in which the Si–Mn alloy offers high capacity characteristics and embedded rGO nanosheets confer structural stability. Si–Mn/rGO ternary nanocomposites were synthesized by mechanical complexation and subsequent thermal reduction of mixtures of Si nanoparticles, MnO<SUB>2</SUB> nanorods, and rGO nanosheets. Resulting ternary nanocomposite anodes displayed a specific capacity of 600 mAh/g with ∼90% capacity retention after 50 cycles at a current density of 100 mA/g. The enhanced performance is attributed to facilitated Li-ion reactions with the MnSi alloy phase and the formation of a structurally reinforced electroconductive matrix of rGO nanosheets. The ternary nanocomposite design paradigm presented in this study can be exploited for the development of high-capacity and long-life anode materials for versatile LIB applications.</P><P><B>Graphic Abstract</B> <IMG SRC='http://pubs.acs.org/appl/literatum/publisher/achs/journals/content/aamick/2014/aamick.2014.6.issue-3/am404608d/production/images/medium/am-2013-04608d_0008.gif'></P>
