        Identification of MicroRNAs as potential biomarkers for detecting ischemic stroke

        Background: Increasing epidemic of ischemic stroke (IS) makes it urgent to understand the pathogenesis and regulatory mechanism, previous studies have described microRNAs (miRNAs) is part of the brain's response to ischemia. Objective: The aim of this study was to screen potential biomarkers for the prediction and novel treatment of IS. Methods: Differentially expressed miRNAs were screened from three newly diagnosed IS patients and three controls by RNA sequencing technology. Furthermore, target prediction databases were then used to analysis the target genes of different expressed miRNAs, and the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway database were used to identify the functions and the main biochemical and signal pathways of differentially expressed target genes. Results: Our results revealed that 27 miRNAs were differentially expressed in IS, among which, hsa-miR-659-5p was the most highly increased and was first found to be associated with IS. In addition, KEGG pathway analyses showed that differentially expressed miRNAs were mainly significantly enriched in lysosome pathway, cytokine-cytokine receptor interaction pathway, spliceosome pathway, base excision repair pathway. Conclusions: miRNAs were involved in IS pathogenesis, and hsa-miR-659-5p, hsa-miR-151a-3p and hsa-miR-29c-5p as the three highest |log2FoldChange| regulation in this study, which may be the biomarkers of IS and need further study.

        Preparation and Investigation of Ulex Europaeus Agglutinin IConjugated Liposomes as Potential Oral Vaccine Carriers

        We prepared and optimized Ulex europaeus agglutinin I (UEAI)-modified Bovine serum albumin (BSA)-encapsulating liposomes (UEAI-LIP) as oral vaccine carriers and examined the feasibility of inducing systemic and mucosal immune responses by oral administration of UEAILIP. The prepared systems were characterized in vitro for their average size, zeta potential,encapsulation efficiency (EE%) and conjugation efficiency (CE%). In vitro release studies indicated that the presence of UEAI around the optimized liposomes was able to prevent a burst release of loaded BSA and provide sustained release of the encapsulated protein. In vivo immune-stimulating results in KM mice showed that BSA given intramuscularly generated systemic response only but both systemic and mucosal immune responses could be induced simultaneously in the groups in which BSA-loaded liposomes (LIP) and UEAI-LIP were administered intragastrically. Furthermore, the modification of UEAI on the surface of liposomes could further enhance the IgA and IgG levels obviously. In conclusion, this study demonstrated the high potential of lectin-modified liposomes containing the antigen as carriers for oral vaccine.

        There may be not direct path from the psychological selection by the customers to the green behavior owing to the complexity of the green consumption. The specific mode of action still needs being further researched. This paper will research the specific path and mechanism of customer’s green consumption based on VBN theory. Based on a survey of Chinese respondents, environment values bring indirect influence to green customer behavior through individual belief or subjective norm intermediately. However, there are different paths from value to behavior. One path is that egoistic value-subjective norm-green customer behavior while another path is that altruistic value-environment beliefs-subjective norm-green customer behavior which really fits into previous research of VBN theory.

        Analysis of Fracture Surface Morphology and Study of Seepage Diffusion Characteristics

        There are a large number of rough and irregular fractures in underground engineering rock mass, which makes the movement of fracture fluid very complex. To address the issues of non-visibility of physical model tests and non-repeatability of joint surfaces in natural rock fractures, a method was proposed to accurately depict the impact of rough fracture morphology on rock seepage. This method involved using natural rock fractures as a prototype and creating secondary molds using gypsum and silica gel to precisely replicate the rough fracture surface morphology. The three-dimensional morphology scanning technology was used to accurately obtain the surface morphology information of rough fractures, and the anisotropy of rough fracture morphology parameters was analyzed. Additionally, the study investigated the characteristics of seepage area and frontal flow line morphology through the use of a visual transparent fracture model. The obtained results provided an intuitive understanding of the distribution law of the seepage field. The evolution law of flow velocity with roughness was analyzed by layer superposition technique. The point of maximum flow velocity corresponded to the point of abrupt change in elevation, which occurred in the region with the greatest fluctuation height of the fracture surface. The accurate description of flow patterns in various rough fractures offers theoretical guidance for seepage in rock fractures in practical engineering applications.

        Phase II trial of VEGFR2 inhibitor apatinib for metastatic sarcoma: focus on efficacy and safety

        Apatinib (YN968D1) is a novel tyrosine kinase inhibitor targeting vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2 (VEGFR- 2). We conducted a single-arm, nonrandomized phase II study (NCT03121846) to assess the efficacy and safety of apatinib in patients with stage IV sarcoma. We recruited 64 patients with stage IV sarcoma who had failed chemotherapy. The primary endpoint was progression-free survival (PFS), and the secondary endpoints were progression-free survival rate (PFR), objective response rate (ORR), and disease control rate (DCR) at week 12. Treatment-related adverse effects (AEs) were evaluated. Fifty-nine patients were assessed for efficacy and 64 patients for AEs. The median PFS was 7.93 months. At 12 weeks, the PFR was 74%, the ORR was 16.95% (10/59), and the DCR was 86.44% (51/59). The final ORR was 15.25% (9/59) and the DCR was 57.63% (34/59). Notably, 22 patients (34.38%) who developed hypertension, hand-foot-skin reaction, or proteinuria had significantly longer OS than those without these AEs (18.20 vs. 10.73 months; P = 0.002). We conclude that apatinib is effective and well tolerated in patients with advanced sarcoma. The development of hypertension, hand-foot-skin reaction, or proteinuria may indicate a favorable prognosis, representing a novel finding in sarcoma patients.

        Copper-based deep eutectic solvents (Cu-DES) assisted the VPO catalyst as a structural and electronic promoter for n-butane selective oxidation

        Currently, deep eutectic solvents (DESs), as an exclusive class of ionic liquid analogs, are extensivelyemployed in various fields. Herein, vanadium phosphorus oxide (VPO) catalysts assisted by copperbaseddeep eutectic solvent (Cu-DES) as an electronic promoter and structure directing agent were ingeniouslysynthesized and exploited in the selective oxidation of n-butane to maleic anhydride (MA). TheDES is efficient, cost effective and highly green compared to conventionally use metal inorganic modifiers. Cu-DES was prepared from a eutectic mixture of an organic salt (ChCl) and a metal salt hydrate/metal salt of cupric (Cu(NO3)2.3H2O, CuCl2) and cuprous (CuCl) salt with a molar ratio of 1:1–1:3, whichnotably improved the catalytic performance compared to that of an unpromoted VPO catalyst. The MAselectivity and n-butane conversion of Cu–DES–VPO increased significantly, while the COx (CO andCO2) selectivity decreased. FTIR, DSC, XRD, SEM, EDS, TEM, Raman, TGA, XPS, and NH3-TPD characterizationtechniques were utilized to fully analyze the DES, precursor and catalyst to explore MA selectivity. This work shifts the significant increase of 13% n-butane conversion, 11% MA selectivity and 16% MAmass yield, which greatly influences low carbon alkane utilization. Importantly, the CO: CO2 ratio isreduced from 2.02 to 1.62, which is more beneficial for chemical plants as well as green environments.

        Adsorption capacity of sodium dodecyl sulfate activation okara for methylene blue on aqueous solution

        Agricultural waste okara (OA) was selected as a precursor to prepare low-cost adsorbent for the removal of methylene blue (MB). Sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), as a kind of anionic surfactant, was loaded onto okara (SOA) to achieve high adsorption ability. Scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectrometer and X-ray diffraction were investigated for the materials characterization. The effect of pH, contact time, initial concentration, adsorbent dose and ionic strength was determined to explore the adsorption properties. The adsorption kinetics, adsorption isotherms, cost analysis of adsorbent and adsorption mechanism were discussed. And the adsorption equilibrium data fitted well with Langmuir model, while the calculated maximum adsorption capacity was 238.10mg g1 for OA and 334.83mg g1 for SOA, respectively. The kinetics data followed the pseudo-second-order model. Thermodynamic parameters (Ho, Go and So) indicated the spontaneous and exothermal nature. This research reveals that SOA is an effective, low-cost and promising adsorbent on the adsorption of MB on aqueous solution.

        The mitochondrial genome of red-necked phalarope Phalaropus lobatus (Charadriiformes: Scolopacidae) and phylogeny analysis among Scolopacidae

        The red-necked phalarope is a wonderful species with specific morphological characters and lifestyles. Mitochondrial genomes, encoding necessary proteins involved in the system of energy metabolism, are important for the evolution and adaption of species. In this study, we determined the complete mitogenome sequence of Phalaropus lobatus (Charadriiformes: Scolopacidae). The circular genome is 16714 bp in size, containing 13 PCGs, two ribosomal RNAs and 22 tRNAs and a high AT-rich control region. The AT skew and GC skew of major strand is positive and negative respectively. Most of PCGs are biased towards A-rich except ND1. A codon usage analysis shows that 3 start codons (ATG, GTG and ATA), 4 stop codons (TAA, TAG, AGG, AGA) and two incomplete terminate codons (T–). Twenty two transfer RNAs have the typical cloverleaf structure, and a total of ten base pairs are mismatched throughout the nine tRNA genes. The phylogenetic tree based on 13 PCGs and 2 rRNA genes indicates that monophyly of the family and genus Phalaropus is close to genus Xenus plus Tringa. The analysis of selective pressure shows 13 protein-coding genes are evolving under the purifying selection and P. lobatus is different from other Scolopacidae species on the selective pressure of gene ND4. This study helps us know the inherent mechanism of mitochondrial structure and natural selection.
