As disinfection is employed extensively, disinfection by-product bromate has become an emerging environmental issue due to its carcinogenic toxicity. For developing an effective alternative approach for reducing bromate, cobalt and nickel-based Prussian Blue (PB) analogues are proposed here for incorporating a convenient reducing agent, NaBH4 (i.e., a H2-rich reagent) for reducing bromate to bromide as cobalt and nickel are recognized as effective metals for catalyzing hydrolysis of NaBH4, and PB exhibits versatile catalytic activity. While CoPB and NiPB are comprised of the same crystalline structure, CoPB exhibits slightly higher specific surface area, more reductive surface, and more superior electron transfer than NiPB, enabling CoPB to accelerate bromate reduction. CoPB also exhibits a higher affinity towards NaBH4 than NiPB based on density functional theory calculations. Moreover, CoPB also exhibits a relatively low activation energy (i.e., 59.5 kJ/mol) of bromate reduction than NiPB (i.e., 63.2 kJ/mol). Furthermore, bromate reduction by CoPB and NiPB could be also considerably enhanced under acidic conditions, and CoPB and NiPB could still effectively remove bromate even in the presence of nitrate, sulfate and phosphate. CoPB and NiPB are also validated to be recyclable for reducing bromate, indicating that CoPB and NiPB are promising heterogeneous catalysts for reducing bromate.

Accumulated evidence has indicated that Ephrin A1 (EFNA1) is associated with angiogenesis and tumorigenesis in various types of malignancies, including colorectal cancer (CRC). In the current study, we performed an online search using the public microarray database to investigate whether EFNA1 expression might be altered in CRC tissues. We then conducted a case-control study including 306 subjects (102 cases and 204 well-matched controls) in Xiaoshan County to assess any association between genetic polymorphisms in EFNA1 and CRC susceptibility. Searches in the Oncomine expression profiling database revealed EFNA1 to be overexpressed in CRC tissue compared with adjacent normal tissue. The rs12904 G-A variant located in the 3' untranslated region (UTR) of EFNA1 was observed to be associated with CRC susceptibility. Compared with the AA homozygous genotype, those carrying GA genotype had a decreased risk of developing CRC (odds ratio (OR)=0.469, 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.225-0.977, and P=0.043). The association was stronger among smokers and tea drinkers, however, no statistical evidence of interaction between rs12904 polymorphism and smoking or tea drinking on CRC risk was found. Our results suggest that EFNA1 is involved in colorectal tumorigenesis, and rs12904 A>G polymorphism in the 3' UTR of EFNA1 is associated with CRC susceptibility. Larger studies and further mechanistic investigations are warranted to confirm our findings.
The Influence of Changing PV Array Interconnections under a Non-uniform Irradiance
Kun Ding,Li Feng,Si-Yu Qin,Jing Mao,Jing-Wei Zhang,Xiang Wang,Tao Peng,Quan-Xin Zhai 전력전자학회 2016 JOURNAL OF POWER ELECTRONICS Vol.16 No.2
Usually, the output characteristics of a photovoltaic (PV) array are significantly affected by non-uniform irradiance which is caused by ambient obstacles, clouds, orientations, tilts, etc. Some local maximum power points (LMPP) in the current-voltage (I-V) curves of a PV array can result in power losses of the array. However, the output power at the global maximum power point (GMPP) is different in different interconnection schemes in a PV array. Therefore, based on the theoretical analysis and mathematical derivation of different topological structures of a PV array, this paper investigated the output characteristics of dual series PV arrays with different interconnections. The proposed mathematical models were also validated by experimental results. Finally, this paper also concluded that in terms of performance, the total cross tied (TCT) interconnection was not always the optimal structure, especially in a dual series PV array. When one of the PV modules was severely mismatched, the TCT worked worse than the series parallel (SP) structure. This research can provide guidance for switching the interconnection to gain the greatest energy yield in a changeable- structure PV system.

Tang, Shu-Kun,Wang, Yun,Lou, Kai,Mao, Pei-Hong,Xu, Li-Hua,Jiang, Cheng-Lin,Kim, Chang-Jin,Li, Wen-Jun Society for General Microbiology 2009 International journal of systematic and evolutiona Vol.59 No.6

A Gram-positive actinobacterium, designated strain YIM 90716(T), was isolated from a saline soil sample collected from Ganjiahu Suosuo Forest National Nature Reserve in Xinjiang Province, north-west China. The new isolate contained lysine, glutamic acid and alanine with peptidoglycan type Lys-Ala(3) (variation A3alpha). The major phospholipids were phosphatidylglycerol and diphosphatidylglycerol. The predominant menaqinone was MK-7(H(2)). The major fatty acids were anteiso-C(15 : 0), iso-C(16 : 0) and anteiso-C(17 : 0). The DNA G+C content of strain YIM 90716(T) was 68.0 mol%. Chemotaxonomic properties supported the affiliation of strain YIM 90716(T) to the genus Kocuria. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences revealed that the organism was related most closely to Kocuria kristinae DSM 20032(T) (96.8 % similarity) and showed lower levels of 16S rRNA gene similarity (<96.5 %) with the type strains of other species of the genus Kocuria. The results of fatty acid analysis and physiological and biochemical tests allowed the genotypic and phenotypic differentiation of strain YIM 90716(T) from its closest relatives. On the basis of data from the present polyphasic study, strain YIM 90716(T) is considered to represent a novel species of the genus Kocuria, for which the name Kocuria halotolerans sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is YIM 90716(T) (=DSM 18442(T)=KCTC 19172(T)=CCTCC AB 206069(T)).

Analysis of Fracture Surface Morphology and Study of Seepage Diffusion Characteristics
Zheng Li,Kun Mao,Jie Liu,Kexin Zhang 대한토목학회 2024 KSCE Journal of Civil Engineering Vol.28 No.1
There are a large number of rough and irregular fractures in underground engineering rock mass, which makes the movement of fracture fluid very complex. To address the issues of non-visibility of physical model tests and non-repeatability of joint surfaces in natural rock fractures, a method was proposed to accurately depict the impact of rough fracture morphology on rock seepage. This method involved using natural rock fractures as a prototype and creating secondary molds using gypsum and silica gel to precisely replicate the rough fracture surface morphology. The three-dimensional morphology scanning technology was used to accurately obtain the surface morphology information of rough fractures, and the anisotropy of rough fracture morphology parameters was analyzed. Additionally, the study investigated the characteristics of seepage area and frontal flow line morphology through the use of a visual transparent fracture model. The obtained results provided an intuitive understanding of the distribution law of the seepage field. The evolution law of flow velocity with roughness was analyzed by layer superposition technique. The point of maximum flow velocity corresponded to the point of abrupt change in elevation, which occurred in the region with the greatest fluctuation height of the fracture surface. The accurate description of flow patterns in various rough fractures offers theoretical guidance for seepage in rock fractures in practical engineering applications.
Cyclic Softening Properties of 30Cr2MoV Steel at Elevated Temperatures
Liu, Zongde,Yang, Kun,Bai, Shu Lin,An, Jiangying,Mao, Xue ping 대한금속재료학회(대한금속학회) 2001 METALS AND MATERIALS International Vol.7 No.1
Low cycle fatigue tests for 30Cr2MoV steel are done at both room and elevated temperatures and their softening properties are investigated. Based on the experimental results, a quantitative relationship between hardness and remaining life is established, allowing prediction of the remaining life of metals. A modified Mason-Coffin equation including the aging effect is also derived. Both the experimental and theoretical results show that it is useful to be able to predict the remaining life of a steam turbine rotor through the measurement of hardness.

Rice seed dormancy is an important trait related to the preharvest sprouting resistance of rice and is controlled by a polygene network. To identify the genes involved in this process, transcriptome analysis was applied to strong seed dormancy indica cultivar N22 and its weak dormancy mutant Q4646. The results showed that 280genes were significantly upregulated and 244 genes significantly downregulated in the seed of Q4646 as compared to N22 during 25 to 28 days after heading. These genes were mainly involved in stress response, Ccompound metabolism, plant development, DNA processing, and lipid metabolism. Some of these genes were colocalized with several reported dormancy QTLs, suggesting that they are possibly candidate genes underlying rice seed dormancy. Our work provides important clues for future effort to clone seed dormant genes in rice.
