<P>We demonstrate the charge transport characteristics of MoS2-based vertical heterojunction devices through the formation of interfacial strain. Atomically thin MoS2 bilayers were directly synthesized on a p-type Si substrate by using chemical vapor deposition to introduce an interfacial tensile strain in the vertical heterojunction diode structure, which was confirmed by Raman, X-ray and ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy techniques. The electrical and optoelectronic properties of the heterojunction devices with the as-grown MoS2 (A-MoS2) on p-Si were compared with those of transferred MoS2 (T-MoS2)/p-Si devices. To clearly understand the charge transport characteristics induced by the interfacial tensile strain, the Fowler-Nordheim (FN) analysis of the electrical properties of the diode devices was conducted with the corresponding energy band diagrams. All of the fabricated MoS2-based vertical diodes exhibited clearly rectifying behaviors, but the photoresponse properties of the A-MoS2-based and T-MoS2-based heterojunctions exhibited distinct differences. Interestingly, we found that the tunneling barrier heights of the A-MoS2-based heterojunction devices were relatively higher than those of the T-MoS2-based devices and were almost the same before and after illumination due to the interfacial tensile strain, whereas those of the T-MoS2-based devices were lowered after illumination. Our study will help further understand the charge transport properties of 2D material-based heterojunction devices in the presence of interfacial strain, ultimately enabling the design of electronic and optoelectronic devices with novel functionalities.</P>

With a simple equivalent circuit model, we obtained an analytical equation for the electrical signal and its spectrum induced by a relativistic electron bunch on a pickup electrode of the beam position monitoring system. Useful formulae are derived to estimate beam position monitor parameters, such as V(fBPM) = 70 mV and the coupling impedance Zb = 0.5 , for the Pohang Light Source.
어촌, 농촌, 도시 지역별 주민의 식품을 통한 다이옥신의 섭취량 추정

본 연구에서는 식생활 양상이 서로 다를 것으로 생각되는 어촌, 농촌, 도시 지역별 각각 213명, 193명, 187명을 대상으로 직접면담과 24시간 회상법에 의한 식사섭취조사를 실시한 후 35가지 식품 중 다이옥신 함량 자료를 이용하여 추정한 다이옥신 섭취상태를 비교·평가하였다. 지역별 조사대상자의 평균 연령은 어촌 61.5세, 농촌 57.6세, 도시 49.4세순으로 유의하게 높았으며, 신장은 도시 대상자가 160.0 ㎝로 어촌의 158.1 ㎝나 농촌의 157.7 ㎝보다 유의하게 높았다. 지역별 남녀 성별 분포는 유의한 차이가 없었다. 1일 에너지 섭취량은 농촌 1707.7 ㎉, 도시 1596.5 ㎉, 어촌 1493.8 ㎉로 농촌이 어촌보다 유의하게 높았다. 1일 총 식품섭취량은 지역별 유의한 차이가 없었으나 어패류는 어촌지역이, 곡류, 채소류, 육류, 조미료류는 농촌지역이, 당류, 두류, 난류, 해조류, 우유류, 유지류는 도시지역이 가장 높았다. 35종 식품의 다이옥신 함량자료를 이용하여 평가한 어촌, 농촌, 도시 대상자의 1일 다이옥신 섭취량은 어촌이 0.70 pgTEQ/㎏/day로 농촌의 0.32 pgTEQ/㎏/day나 도시의 0.46 pgTEQ/㎏/day보다 유의하게 높았다. 곡류, 두류, 채소류, 어패류를 통한 다이옥신 섭취량은 어촌이, 난류와 우유류를 통한 다이옥신 섭취량은 도시가 가장 높았다. 전체 대상자의 다이옥신 섭취량은 육류, 난류, 어패류, 유지류, 조미료류 및 총 식품섭취량과 각각 유의한 정의 상관관계를 보였다. 이상의 연구결과를 종합할 때 식품을 통한 다이옥신 섭취량은 어촌 지역이 농촌이나 도시보다 높고 어패류나 동물성식품을 통한 섭취가 높았으나, 세 지역 모두 우리나라 내용(耐容) 1일 섭취량보다 낮아 안전한 수준이었다. The human population is mainly exposed to dioxins through the diet. The purpose of this study was to estimate the daily dietary intake of PCDDs and PCDFs in Korean adults residing in different regions. Subjects were recruited and divided into three groups according to the districts where they lived: rural (n=213), coastal (n=193), and urban district (n=187). Subjects were interviewed using a general questionnaire and 24-hour recall for dietary intake. The daily intake of dioxins was estimated through the use of the database of dioxins contents in 35 Korean foods. The average age of the subjects were 61.5 years for coastal district, 57.6 years for rural district, and 49.4 years for urban district. Daily energy intake was 1707.7 ㎉ for rural district, 1596.5 ㎉ for urban district, and 1493.8 ㎉ for coastal district. There was no significant difference in total food intake by regions. The intakes from fishes of coastal district, those from cereals, vegetables, meats, and seasonings of rural district, and those from sugars, pulses, eggs, seaweeds, milks, oils of urban area were higher than those of the other two districts. The daily dioxins intake of coastal district (0.70 pgTEQ/㎏/day) was significantly higher than those of rural district (0.32 pgTEQ/㎏/day) and urban district (0.46 pgTEQ/㎏/day). The dioxins intake from cereals, pulses, vegetables, fishes of coastal district and those from eggs and milks of urban area were the highest among the districts. The daily dioxins intake was positively correlated with the intakes of meats, eggs, fishes, oils, and seasonings. Therefore, it could be concluded that the daily dioxins intake of coastal district is higher than that in other districts and the fish is one of the main sources in dioxin intakes. However, daily dioxins intakes of the three regions were below the level of tolerable daily intake (TDI).
The Phase Estimation Algorithm of Arrival Phase Differences in Space-Time Coded Communication

One objective in developing the next generation of wireless communication systems is to increase data rates and reliability. A promising way to achieve this is to combine multiple-input and multiple-output signal processing with a space-time coding scheme, which offers higher coding and diversity gains and improves the spectrum efficiency and reliability of a wireless communication system. It is noted, however, that time delay differences and phase differences among different channels increase symbol interference and degrade system performance. In this letter, we investigate phase differences and their effects on multiple-input and multiple-output systems, and propose a compensation algorithm for the Rayleigh fading model to minimize their effects.
Two-dimensional SR Interferometer for PLS-II

A synchrotron radiation (SR) interferometer was used for beam size measurements at the Pohang Light Source (PLS). It was an one-dimensional (1D) interferometer, and the horizontal beam size was only available for real time measurements of the user service. In the PLS upgrade project (PLS-II), a 2D interferometer was tried for simultaneous measurements of the horizontal and the vertical beam sizes. Various sizes of the 2D slits were tried to find an optimum condition by considering the SR characteristics and the instrument’s limitations. Measurement results of the beam size were cross-checked in three different ways and showed good agreements with each other. After optimization, the measurement accuracy of the beam size was improved significantly, and a vertical beam size change was noticed when the gap distance of the elliptically polarized undulator (EPU) was changed.
3D X-ray Tomography System in the PLS 7B2 Bio-imaging Beamline

The 7B2 bio-imaging beamline of the Pohang Accelerator Laboratory (PAL) is newly equipped with a 3D X-ray tomography system. It can provide 3D X-ray images with a resolving power better than 2 µm in a non-destructive way without destroying an optically opaque substance. By using stable, high-flux synchrotron radiation, it can photograph digital images with high resolution at exposure times of ms in real time. While it can obtain an absorption contrast image according to the absorption difference of a substance, it can also obtain an image representing the edgeenhanced mechanism by using a small angle diffraction of synchrotron radiation, which takes place at the boundary surface of the density difference in an individual component material. The 7B2bio-imaging beamline has been newly setup and provides users with image acquisition, reconstruction,and image-rendering software for computer X-ray tomography. In this presentation, we will introduce the beamline setup, with optical instruments and imaging processing software, of the 7B2bio-imaging beamline.
Tailoring the Permselectivity of Water Desalination Membranes via Nanoparticle Assembly

<P>Thin film composite membranes can selectively separate mono- and divalent ions from water via solution-diffusion of each species through a dense but ultrathin, highly cross-linked polymer “skin” layer; water is transported across the membrane faster than associated salts. Changing the selectivity of the “skin” layer typically requires adjusting the monomer chemistries that make up the polymer “skin” layer, but doing so also impacts a host of other membrane properties. Here, we employ electrostatic layer-by-layer deposition of inorganic nanoparticles to enhance the permselectivity of an existing commercial nanofiltration membrane. We chose this approach because it is simple and robust and does not require any change to the underlying chemistry of the thin film composite (TFC) membrane. We found that a single layer of nanoparticles was sufficient to increase the permselectivity of the membrane by nearly 50%, compared to the virgin TFC membrane. In order to understand the mechanism for permselectivity enhancement, we developed a modified solution-diffusion model to account for the additional hydraulic resistance of the nanoparticle layer, which can faithfully capture the effect of nanoparticle layer thickness on the observed water and salt flux of the modified TFC membrane.</P><P><B>Graphic Abstract</B> <IMG SRC='http://pubs.acs.org/appl/literatum/publisher/achs/journals/content/langd5/2014/langd5.2014.30.issue-2/la403718x/production/images/medium/la-2013-03718x_0006.gif'></P><P><A href='http://pubs.acs.org/doi/suppl/10.1021/la403718x'>ACS Electronic Supporting Info</A></P>
