Identification, fine mapping and characterization of Rht-dp, a recessive wheat dwarfing (reduced height) gene derived from Triticum polonicum

        Hou-Yang Kang,Li-Juan Lin,Zhi-Jian Song,Jing-Ya Yuan,Mei-Yu Zhong,Hai-Qin Zhang,Xing Fan,Li-Na Sha,Yi Wang,Li-Li Xu,Jian Zeng,Yong-Hong Zhou 한국유전학회 2012 Genes & Genomics Vol.34 No.5

Semi-dwarfism is an agronomically important trait in breeding for resistance to damage by wind and rain (lodging resistance)and for stable high yields. Dwarf Polish wheat (Triticum polonicum L., 2n = 4x = 28, AABB AS304) is a potential donor of dwarfing and other traits for common wheat improvement. A genetic analysis using an F2 population derived from a cross of AS304 and tall cultivar AS302 and derived F2:3 lines indicated that AS304 carries a recessive dwarfing gene, temporarily designated Rht-dp. Molecular markers and bulked segregant analysis were used to characterize and map the gene. Eight polymorphic SSR markers (Xwmc511, Xgwm495, Xgwm 113, Xgwm192, Xgpw7026, Xgpw3017, Xgpw1108 and Xgpw7521) on chromosome arm 4BS and two AFLP markers (M8/E5 and M4/E3) were mapped relative to the dwarfing locus. The closest linked markers, Xgpw3017 and M8/E5 at 0.5 and 3.5 cM, respectively, from Rht-dp will enable its marker assisted transfer to wheat breeding populations. Allelic tests indicated that Rht-dp was allelic to Rht-B1b; hence it may be an alternative allele at the Rht-B1 locus.

Investigation of flexural strength and porosity of porous Si₃N₄ ceramics through orthogonal experimental design

        Juanli Yu,Jianmei Hou,Jian Zhang,Guanjun Qiao,Zhihao Jin,Hongjie Wang 한양대학교 세라믹연구소 2008 Journal of Ceramic Processing Research Vol.9 No.6

Porous Si3N4 ceramics by a gel casting preparation route have received considerable attention because of their excellent performance. In this paper, orthogonal experimental design L16(45) was used to investigate the preparation of porous Si3N4 ceramics by a gelcasting technique. Three variables including solid loading, monomer content and the ratio of monomers were studied. Through range analysis and variance analysis, the results suggest that the ratio of monomers has a significant influence on both the flexural strength and porosity of Si3N4 sintered bodies. For the flexural strength of a Si3N4 sintered body, the order of significance levels was as follows: the ratio of monomers, solid loading and monomer content. For the porosity of a Si3N4 sintered body, the order of significance levels was as follows: the ratio of monomers, monomer content and solid loading. The experimental results suggest also that solid loading has an optimum value where the flexural strength can achieve a maximum value. Realgar bioleaching solution suppress ras excessive activation by increasing ROS in Caenorhabditis elegans

        De Juan Zhi,Na Feng,Dong Ling Liu,Rong Li Hou,Mei Zu Wang,Xiao Xia Ding,Hong Yu Li 대한약학회 2014 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.37 No.3

Although realgar bioleaching solution (RBS) hasbeen proved to be a potential candidate for cancer therapy, themechanisms of RBS anticancer are still far from beingcompletely understood. Dosed with RBS in C. elegans, themultivulva phenotype resulting from oncogenic ras gain-offunctionwasinhibited in a dose dependentmanner. It could beabrogated by concurrent treatment C. elegans with RBS andthe radical scavengerDMSO. However, RBS could not induceDAF-16 nuclear translocation in TJ356 or the increase of HSP16.2 expression in CL2070, which both could be arousedvisible GFP fluorescent variation to represent for oxidativestress generation. Treatment C. elegans with superoxide aniongenerator paraquat, similar results were also obtained. Ourresults indicated that RBS suppress excessive activated ras byincreasing reactive oxygen species (ROS) in C. elegans. Secondly, ROS induced by RBS significantly accumulated ona higher level inC. elegans with amutational ras than that withwild ras, thus leading to oxidative stress on ras gain-of-functionbackground rather than on normal ras context. Our resultsfirstly demonstrated that using C. elegans as amodel organismfor evaluating prooxidant drug candidates for cancer therapy.

Relation between the local structure and solid solubility of the layered material LiMO2 (M=Co, Ni, Fe) in Li2MnO3

        Chen Hou,Xiang Xiao,Yi-Ran Xing,Le-Le Yu,Yong-Heng Si,Han Lu,Yu-Juan Zhao 대한금속·재료학회 2022 ELECTRONIC MATERIALS LETTERS Vol.18 No.1

Although low solid solubility and activity of LiFeO2in xLi2MnO3·(1–x)LiFeO2 limit its practical application, it still has thepotential to become a new-generation cathode material without cobalt or nickel for Li-ion batteries. In order to understand theeffects of the local structures of different LiMO2(M = Co, Ni, Fe) layered materials on their solid solubility in Li2MnO3,partialdensities of states are calculated to determine the Jahn–Teller distortion in the layered cathode material, and the first-principlescalculation method based on density functional theory is used to optimize and compare the local structures of LiCoO2,LiNiO2,LiFeO2,LiMnO2,and Li2MnO3. The degrees of distortion of the transition metal–oxygen (M–O) and lithium–oxygen (Li–O)octahedra in the crystal structure of the material are evaluated. It is clear that the solid solubility of layered materials is relatedto the bond lengths and degrees of distortion of the M–O and Li–O octahedra. Among them, the similar bond length of LiNiO2and Li2MnO3and the high distortion of NiO6enhance the solid solubility of LiNiO2in Li2MnO3. Owing to the absence ofJahn–Teller distortion in LiFeO2and LiCoO2,the FeO6and CoO6octahedra are slightly distorted, thereby decreasing thesolid solubility of LiMO2(M = Fe, Co) in Li2MnO3. Understanding the relation between intra-octahedral distortion and solidsolubility provides simple and efficient evidence for comparing the solid solubilities of different LiMO2layered materials inthe Li2MnO3of Li-rich cathode materials. This study can be used as a reference for component design in Li-rich materials.

Seroprevalence of Dirofilaria immitis in Cats from Liaoning Province, Northeastern China

        Honglie Hou,Lili Cao,Wenzhi Ren,Dansheng Wang,He Ding,Juan You,Xinhua Yao,Hang Dong,Yanbing Guo,Shuxian Yuan,Xi-Chen Zhang,Pengtao Gong 대한기생충학ㆍ열대의학회 2017 The Korean Journal of Parasitology Vol.55 No.6

The present study was performed to investigate the seroprevalence and risk factors for Dirofilaria immitis infection in cats from Liaoning province, northeastern China. From October 2014 to September 2016, sera of 651 cats, including 364 domestic cats and 287 feral cats (332 females and 319 males) were assessed. They were tested for the presence of D. immitis antigen using SNAP Heartworm RT test kit. In this population, the average prevalence was 4.5%. Age and rearing conditions (feral or domestic) were found to be associated with the prevalence of D. immitis. The prevalence was significantly higher in feral cats compared with domestic cats (8.4% vs 1.4%, P<0.01). There was no significant difference between males and females (4.7% vs 4.2%, P>0.05), but older cats (≥3 years old) showed a statistically higher prevalence compared with younger cats (<3 years old) in feral populations (16.8 vs 2.4%, P<0.01), while the difference between the age groups was not statistically significant in domestic cats (2.4% vs 0.51%, P>0.05), all these results suggest that outdoor exposure time may be one of the most important factors for D. immitis prevalence in cats. Results reveal that D. immitis are prevalence in domestic and feral cats in northeastern China, which indicates that appropriate preventive measures should be taken to decrease the incidence of feline heartworm disease in Liaoning province, northeastern China.

Improving Inter-story Drift Distribution of Steel Moment Resisting Frames Through Stiff Rocking Cores

Bing Qu,Juan Carlos Sanchez,Hetao Hou,Michael Pollino 한국강구조학회 2016 International Journal of Steel Structures Vol.16 No.2

This investigation assesses adequacy of the Stiff Rocking Core (SRC) technology for rehabilitating steel Moment Resisting Frames (MRFs) vulnerable to drift concentrations and soft-story failures. The technology installs a single or multiple SRCs pinned to the foundation and connected to a deficient multi-story steel MRF to re-distribute seismic forces along its height and create more uniform inter-story drift and ductility demand distributions. This research team implemented the SRC technology in two archetype steel MRFs including one three-story and one nine-story. Results from nonlinear static analyses show that the SRC technology can reduce inter-story drift concentration in both steel MRFs regardless of the seismic force distributions and drift limits considered in design. Additionally, the SRC extending along the entire height of a steel MRF is more preferable than the one extending over the bottom portion of the system, although these two SRC options can be both valid in many cases.

        Duan, Lian,Hou, Liudong,Lee, Tae-Woo,Qiao, Juan,Zhang, Deqiang,Dong, Guifang,Wang, Liduo,Qiu, Yong Royal Society of Chemistry 2010 Journal of materials chemistry Vol.20 No.31

<P>Organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) based on vacuum deposited small molecules have undergone significant progress since the first efficient double-layered OLEDs were reported in 1987 by Tang and Van Slyke. Recently, solution processed small molecular OLEDs are also drawing more and more research attention, as such a technology combines advantages of the facile synthesis of small molecules and the low-cost solution process like polymers. The performance of OLEDs made by solution process is gradually catching up with their vacuum deposited counterparts. This feature article will review the device structures adopted to achieve high performance solution processed OLEDs, the development of solution processable small molecules, and the comparisons of the different nature of the films and devices fabricated by solution-process or by vacuum deposition. Finally, the prospects and remaining problems will be discussed.</P> <P>Graphic Abstract</P><P>Recent developments, prospects and remaining problems of organic light-emitting diodes based on solution processable small molecules are reviewed, with comparisons of the films and devices by solution-process or vacuum deposition. <IMG SRC='http://pubs.rsc.org/services/images/RSCpubs.ePlatform.Service.FreeContent.ImageService.svc/ImageService/image/GA?id=b926348a'> </P>

Compound glycyrrhizin injection for improving liver function in children with acute icteric hepatitis: A systematic review and meta-analysis

        Liang Shi-Bing,Hou Wen-Bin,Zheng Ruo-Xiang,Liang Chang-Hao,Yan Li-Jiao,Wang Hao-Nan,Cao Hui-Juan,Han Mei,Robinson Nicola,Liu Jian-Ping 한국한의학연구원 2022 Integrative Medicine Research Vol.11 No.1

Background: Compound glycyrrhizin injection (CGI) is a preparation with glycyrrhizin as the main active ingredient extracted from licorice. As clinical trials suggest that CGI is effective in improving liver function for acute icteric hepatitis in children (AIHC), this systematic review aimed to evaluate and verify its therapeutic effects and safety. Methods: Six electronic databases were searched from their inception to 15 May 2021. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) assessing therapeutic effects and safety of CGI for AIHC were included. The risk of bias for each trial was assessed using the Cochrane Risk of Bias Tool 2.0. Primary outcomes were indexes related to liver function, including total bilirubin (TBiL), alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate transaminase (AST). RevMan 5.4 software was used for data analyses. The certainty of the evidence was assessed using the online GRADEpro tool. Results: Six RCTs involving 608 children were included. The overall bias was assessed as having “high risk of bias” in all trials. All trials compared the combination of CGI and conventional western medicine (CWM) with CWM alone. Regarding the effects of CGI for AIHC, results showed that CGI plus CWM was superior to CWM alone in reducing the levels of TBiL (mean difference (MD) = -8.19 mmol/L, 95% CI -9.86 to -6.53), ALT (MD = -24.09 U/L, 95% CI -30.83 to -17.34) and AST (MD = -18.67 U/L, 95% CI -21.88 to -15.45). No trial reported adverse events. The certainty of the evidence for outcomes were all evaluated as low or very low. Conclusion: CGI may have adjuvant therapeutic effects on improving the liver function of children with AIHC. There is no evidence to determine the safety of CGI for AIHC. As current evidence is weak, further well-designed RCTs are required for verification of the therapeutic effects of CGI.
