Lysophosphatidylethanolamine delays fruit softening of persimmon (Diospyros kaki)
Jihye Jung,Young-Pyo Lee,Sung-Woo Bae,Gwang-Hwan Ahn,Stephen Beungtae Ryu 한국원예학회 2019 Horticulture, Environment, and Biotechnology Vol.60 No.4
We investigated the possibility of prolonging the freshness of persimmons ( Diospyros kaki ) for overseas export. Previous studies aimed at improving the shelf life of harvested persimmons focused on the synthetic gas 1-MCP, an inhibitor of ethylene perception. In this study, the natural lipid compound lysophosphatidylethanolamine (LPE) was applied to prolong the freshness of persimmons. LPE signifi cantly delayed persimmon softening when applied not only during fruit growth, but also after harvest, or after a long period of post-harvest cold storage, simulating conditions of overseas export. LPE suppressed the expression of the softening-related genes ACS1 , ACO1 , ERF24 , DkUGD1 , DkCHI3 , and DkB - CHI1. These results reveal the eff ects of LPE on persimmon softening and the related molecular mechanisms and provide evidence that LPE can be used to delay persimmon softening.
Immediate effect of self-myofascial release on hamstring flexibility

Objective: This study aimed to identify the area with greatest effect using self-myofascial release technique (self-MFR) in the hamstring, suboccipital, and plantar regions. Design: Cross-sectional study. Methods: Twenty-two adult subjects were evaluated for flexibility and hamstring pain threshold after self-MFR. Based on the superficial back line, the self-MFR application areas were the suboccipital region, hamstring, and plantar regions. Self-MFR was applied to each area using a wooden pole for a total of 4 minutes. Self-MFR was applied for 3 days at the same time of day, which was randomly assigned for each subject. Treatment was applied to one area each day. The sit and reach test (SRT), active range of motion (AROM), and passive ROM (PROM) were used to determine changes in flexibility, and an algometer was used to determine pain threshold. Pre/post-self-MFR effectiveness was tested using a paired t-test. Repeated measurement was used to compare self-MFR effects in the suboccipital, hamstring, and plantar regions. Results: When the self-MFR technique was applied to the 3 areas, the SRT showed significant improvement over baseline (p<0.05). Bilateral AROM and PROM showed significant improvements (p<0.05). When the self-MFR technique was applied to the hamstring, the semimembranosus showed a significant change in pain threshold (p<0.05). Conclusions: Our findings suggest that indirect application based on the Anatomy Trains could be effective for those who need to improve muscle flexibility. Moreover, self-MFR easily alleviates myofascial pain while maintaining flexibility, and can be performed at any time and place.
INTERNATIONAL NETWORKS, RELIGIOUS DISCOURSE, AND MISSIONARIES IN HIGH-RISK COUNTRIES
Jung, Jihye 횃불트리니티신학대학원대학교 한국이슬람연구소 2023 Muslim - Christian Encounter Vol.16 No.2
Why do some local religious organizations, particularly Christian foreign mission groups, dispatch missionaries to some culturally risky states, such as Muslim countries, where they face personal high risks and political entanglements? I argue that local religious organizations’ beliefs, identities, and goals are heavily influenced by the diffusion of international religious discourse carried by international religious networks, which is a key factor in mobilizing missionaries to dispatch to high-risk countries. These religious activities are driven by constituted identities and expected behaviors from the international networks. I offer a detailed examination of records and publications of the international religious movements, the Lausanne Movement and the AD 2000 and Beyond Movement, and find common themes, discourse and ideas generated from these international networks. The results show that the discourse of ‘unreached people’ was highly influential in encouraging global Christians to target high-risk countries, and I present more specific discourse of why, how, and when the ideas of Christians approaching the unreached people were discussed and disseminated.
