        Double hysteresis loops induced by Mn doping in Pb0.99Nb0.02(Zr0.95Ti0.05)0.98O3 ferroelectric ceramics

        Pb0.99Nb0.02(Zr0.95Ti0.05)0.98O3 (PNZT95/5) ceramics with 1 mol% and without Mn doping were prepared via conventional solid state reaction process. X-ray diffraction patterns show that the PNZT95/5 and Mn-doped PNZT95/5 (PNZTM95/5) ceramics, with composition near the boundary of the ferroelectric phase (FE)/antiferroelectric phase (AFE), have a rhombohedral perovskite structure. The ferroelectric behavior of PNZT95/5 ceramics is strongly affected by Mn doping. Without any aging process the PNZTM95/5 ceramics possess double hysteresis loops (P–E loops), whereas the PNZT95/5 ceramics possess normal single hysteresis loops. Due to the defect dipoles formed by effectively negatively charged Mn3+ dopants and positively charged O2- vacancies, the PNZTM95/5 ceramics exhibit the double P–E loops. The defect dipole effect has been proved by investigating the P–E loops under different external fields. As a result, the PNZTM95/5 ceramics become ‘‘hardened”, exhibiting a high mechanical quality factor (1300).

        Structural Characterization of Microwave-Assisted Solution-Synthesized Strontium-Substituted Hydroxyapatite

        Hydroxyapatite and strontium-substituted hydroxyapatite nanoparticles (n-HA and Sr-HA) were prepared by microwave-assisted solution synthesis with aqueous solutions of various Sr/(Sr+Ca) molar ratios ranging from 0% to 15%. The structural properties of the hydroxyapatite powders were investigated by X-ray powder diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and Raman spectra, field emission scanning electron microscopy coupled with energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry and transmission electron microscopy. The results confirmed that strontium ions had been incorporated into the hydroxyapatite lattice. The synthetic n-HA and Sr-HA nanocrystalline consisted of hydroxyapatite crystalline phase with hexagonal structure, and the particle size was 30–40 x 60–70 nm and 40–50 x 70–80 nm, respectively. The calcined HA particle size ranged from about 120 nm to 150 nm, the calcined Sr-HA products were composed of spherical aggregates with a size of about 70–100 nm. The incorporation of Sr ions lead to the formation of vacancies in the crystal structure of the HA. The results indicated that the strontium substitution did not change the crystal structures. More Sr resulted in less calcined crystallites and formed agglomerates owing to the size effect.

        Isolation and characterization of tick-borne Roseomonas haemaphysalidis sp. nov. and rodent-borne Roseomonas marmotae sp. nov.

        Four novel Gram-negative, mesophilic, aerobic, motile, and cocci-shaped strains were isolated from tick samples (strains 546T and 573) and respiratory tracts of marmots (strains 1318T and 1311). The 16S rRNA gene sequencing revealed that strains 546T and 573 were 97.8% identical to Roseomonas wenyumeiae Z23T, whereas strains 1311 and 1318T were 98.3% identical to Roseomonas ludipueritiae DSM 14915T. In addition, a 98.0% identity was observed between strains 546T and 1318T. Phylogenetic and phylogenomic analyses revealed that strains 546T and 573 clustered with R. wenyumeiae Z23T, whereas strains 1311 and 1318T grouped with R. ludipueritiae DSM 14915T. The average nucleotide identity between our isolates and members of the genus Roseomonas was below 95%. The genomic G+C content of strains 546T and 1318T was 70.9% and 69.3%, respectively. Diphosphatidylglycerol (DPG) and phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) were the major polar lipids, with Q-10 as the predominant respiratory quinone. According to all genotypic, phenotypic, phylogenetic, and phylogenomic analyses, the four strains represent two novel species of the genus Roseomonas, for which the names Roseomonas haemaphysalidis sp. nov. and Roseomonas marmotae sp. nov. are proposed, with 546T (= GDMCC 1.1780T = JCM 34187T) and 1318T (= GDMCC 1.1781T = JCM 34188T) as type strains, respectively.

        Geometry and Mechanical Behaviour of Radially Retractable Roof Structures During the Movement Process

        In this paper, the kinematic characteristic of the radially retractable roof structure was firstly discussed and the motion boundary of the system was also studied. The results show that the diameter of the outer boundary of the system increases firstly and then decreases when the roof is open. Moreover, the numerical study of the structural behavior of the retractable roof with radial foldable bars and circumferential foldable bars was carried out, respectively. It can be found the latter one has a better structural behavior. Then the mechanical behaivor of the system during the motion was also investigated. Finally, a loop linkage based on a special scissor-like element was proposed to support the retractable roof.

        Experimental and theoretical research on mechanical behavior of innovative composite beams

        The web-encased steel-concrete composite (WESCC) beam is a new developed steel-concrete composite beam. Experiments of six simply supported WESCC beam specimens were conducted. The effects of the shear-span ratio and steel section type were all investigated on the static behaviors such as failure modes, failure mechanism and bearing capacity. The experimental results denoted that all specimens failed in bending mode and the degree of combination between the bottom armor plate of steel shape and concrete were very well without any evident slippage, which demonstrated that the function of bottom armor plate and web were fully exerted in the WESCC beams. It could be concluded the WESCC beams have high stiffness, high load carrying capacity and advanced ductility. The design methods are proposed which mainly consist the bearing capacity calculation of bending and flexural rigidity. The calculation results of the bearing capacity and deflection which take the shear deflection into account are in agreement with the experimental results. The design methods are useful for design and application of the innovative composite beams.

        Protein target identification of ginsenosides in skeletal muscle tissues: discovery of natural small-molecule activators of muscle-type creatine kinase

        Background: Ginseng effectively reduces fatigue in both animal models and clinical trials. However, the mechanism of action is not completely understood, and its molecular targets remain largely unknown. Methods: By screening for proteins that interact with the primary components of ginseng (ginsenosides) in an affinity chromatography assay, we have identified muscle-type creatine kinase (CK-MM) as a potential target in skeletal muscle tissues. Results: Biolayer interferometry analysis showed that ginsenoside metabolites, instead of parent ginsenosides, had direct interaction with recombinant human CK-MM. Subsequently, 20(S)-protopanaxadiol (PPD), which is a ginsenoside metabolite and displayed the strongest interaction with CK-MM in the study, was selected as a representative to confirm direct binding and its biological importance. Biolayer interferometry kinetics analysis and isothermal titration calorimetry assay demonstrated that PPD specifically bound to human CK-MM. Moreover, the mutation of key amino acids predicted by molecular docking decreased the affinity between PPD and CK-MM. The direct binding activated CK-MM activity in vitro and in vivo, which increased the levels of tissue phosphocreatine and strengthened the function of the creatine kinase/phosphocreatine system in skeletal muscle, thus buffering cellular ATP, delaying exercise-induced lactate accumulation, and improving exercise performance in mice. Conclusion: Our results suggest a cellular target and an initiating molecular event by which ginseng reduces fatigue. All these findings indicate PPD as a small molecular activator of CK-MM, which can help in further developing better CK-MM activators based on the dammarane-type triterpenoid structure.

        Use of Long-chain Alcohol in Extraction and Purification of Lincomycin from Fermentation Broth

        Low selectivity for lincomycin in butanol extraction process leads to relatively higher content of impurities. A novel process for extraction of lincomycin from fermentation broth was studied in this work. Mixture of n-octanol and n-decanol is used as extractant to replace n-butanol in extraction of lincomycin. Oprimal operation conditions for the process have been studied. Due to higher extraction selectivity for lincomycin A by long-chain alcohol, content of impurity(lincomycin B) in the final product is much lower than that in product by butanol process. Furthemore, the practicability for combination of long-chain alcohol and butanol in purification of linecomycin was investigated.

        Multistory Stairs-based, Fast and Point-of-care Testing for Disease Biomarker Using One-step Capillary Microfluidic Fluoroimmunoassay Chip via Continuous On-chip Labelling

        Sufficiently long reaction time and low flow velocity are crucial for capillary microfluidic immunoassay chips, especially for truly “one-step” detection with continuous on-chip labelling and capturing. In this study, a multistory stairs-based new delay valve is used to meet the time and flow requirements for protein testing. The delay strategy is capable of slowing down the flow of liquid into the functional region and delaying the time out of the regions as well, thus extending the labelling and capture time to about 100 and 60 s respectively, and further reducing the flow velocity to below 8 μL/min. Based on the principle of sandwich-like immunocomplex, the designed chip is capable of automatically accomplishing on-chip mixing, labelling and capturing procedures via once sample loading and sensitively detecting human Alpha-Fetoprotein (AFP) in 40 μL serum with a wide dynamic ranging from 10 ng/mL to 10 000 ng/mL within 5 min. It could be foreseeable that this microchip has great potential in biomarkers clinical testing.

      • Smart Grid-The next Generation Electricity Grid with Power Flow Optimization and High Power Quality

        As the demand for electric power increases rapidly and the amount of fossil fuels decreases year by year, making use of renewable resources seem very necessary. However, due to the discontinuous nature of renewable resources and the hierarchical topology of existing grids, power quality and grid stability will deteriorate as more and more distributed generations (DGs) are connected to the grids. It is a good idea to combine local utilization, local consumption, energy storage and DGs to form a grid-friendly micro grid, these micro grids can then assembled into an intelligent power system - the smart Grid. It can optimize power flow and integrate power generation and consumption effectively. Most importantly, the power quality and grid stability can be improved greatly. This paper depicts how the smart grid addresses the current issues of a power system. It also figures out the key technologies and expectations of the smart grid.

        Influence of Alkalization Treatment on the Color Quality and the Total Phenolic and Anthocyanin Contents in Cocoa Powder

        The effects of alkalization treatments on color,colorimetric fractions, total polyphenol content, andanthocyanin content of cocoa powder were investigated. Adarker color and a lower total polyphenol content wereobtained for cocoa powder alkalized using a K2CO3solution than with an NaOH solution. A high temperatureand basic pH conditions favored formation of darkcomponents during alkalization due to sugar degradation,Maillard reactions, and anthocyanin polymerizing. Theanthocyanin content decreased with an increasing alkaliconcentration, suggesting that more anthocyanins weretransformed into brown polymers in darker cocoa powder. Cocoa powder with a heavy degree of alkalization had thelowest ratio of monomer anthocyanins to yellow/brownpolymer content. OD460/OD525 values for alkalized sampleswere higher than for non-alkalized samples. Cocoa powderpresented a better color quality after alkalization treatment.
