        The Beneficial Effect of Adenophorae Radix on DSS‐induced Colitis in Mice

        Ulcerative colitis (UC) is an inflammatory bowel disease, which is a chronic gastrointestinal disorder. Adenophorae Radix (AR) has been used as a traditional medicine for various diseases including strengthening cardiac function, allaying a fever, and easing pain and cough. However, the regulatory effects of AR in intestinal inflammation are not yet understood. This study attempted to determine the effect of AR in dextran sulfate sodium (DSS) ? induced colitis in mice. The colitis mice were induced by drinking water containing 5% DSS for 7 days. The results showed that mice treated with DSS showed remarkable clinical signs, including weight loss, and reduced colon length. Administration of AR attenuated weight loss, colon shortening and inhibited the levels of interleukin (IL) ? 6 in DSS ? treated colon tissues. These results provide experimental evidence that AR might be a useful therapeutic medicine for patients with UC.

        상악 제2유구치와 상악 제1대구치의 치관 형태: 치아계측학적 연구

        The basic structure of the primary crowns usually resemble their succeeding permanent teeth. However, maxillary second primary molars resemble ipsilateral first permanent molars. Accordingly in this study, odontometric data of the two teeth was obtained, then analyzed to verify the morphological relationship and sex difference between the two teeth. Dental study casts were examined for their mesiodistal and buccolingual width of the crowns, diameter of each cusps, and intercuspal distances. Photographs of the crowns were taken to measure the angles between each cusp tip. The results are as follows : 1. In boys, PrI, PaI, DBC angle, and MBC angle did not show any statistically significant difference between the two teeth(p>0.05), and moderate level of correlations were observed. 2. In girls, crown index, DBC angle, and MBC angle of the two teeth did not show any statistically significant difference(p>0.05), and moderate level of correlations were recognized. 3. Measurements that did not show statistically significant difference between the two teeth in both boys and girls were DBC angle and MBC angle(p>0.05). In DLC angle, however, statistically significant difference was observed(p<0.01). 4. Most of the measurements showed sex differences, except DBC angle, which did not show any sex difference in both teeth(p>0.05). 유치 치관의 기본적인 구조는 대개 계승 영구치를 닮는다. 그러나 제2유구치는 계승 영구치인 제2소구치보다 오히려 제1대 구치와 더 유사한 경향이 있다. 이에 본 연구는 한국인에서 상악 제2유구치와 제1대구치의 치아계측학적 자료(odontometric data)를 얻어 두 치아의 형태와 크기 사이의 연관성을 살펴보고, 나아가 남녀간의 차이점 유무를 고찰해 보고자 하였다. 남아 150명, 여아 150명 총 300명의 모형을 이용하여 상악 제2유구치와 상악 제1대구치의 근원심 치관 폭경, 협설측 치관 폭경, 각 교두의 직경, 교두정간 거리를 계측하였고, 치관의 교합면 사진을 촬영하여 각 교두정 사이의 각도를 측정하여 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 1. 남아에서 Protocone index, Paraconeindex, Distobuccal cusp(DBC)각, Mesiobuccal cusp(MBC)각은 상악 제1대 구치와 제2유구치 사이에 통계적 유의차가 관찰되지 않았고(p>0.05), 중등도의 상관관계가 확인되었다. 2. 여아에서 crown index, Distobuccal cusp(DBC)각, Mesiobuccal cusp(MBC)각은 상악 제1대구치와 제2유구치 사 이에 통계적 유의차가 관찰되지 않았고(p>0.05), 중등도의 상관관계가 확인되었다. 3. 남, 여 모두에서 Distobuccal cusp(DBC)각, Mesiobuccal cusp(MBC)각은 두 치아 사이에 유의할만한 차이를 보이 지 않았고(p>0.05), Distolingual cusp(DLC)각에서는 통계적 유의차가 관찰되었다(p<0.01). 4. 대부분의 계측치에서 남녀 차이를 나타냈지만, Distobuccal cusp (DBC)각은 상악 제1대구치와 제2유구치 모두에서 남녀 차이를 보이지 않았다(p>0.05).

        성장기 아동의 single tooth scissors bite의 교정 치료: 증례 보고

        A scissors bite in the posterior teeth occurs when the upper teeth are positioned totally buccal to the lower teeth in centric occlusion, either unilaterally or bilaterally. This malocclusion can result from either excessive width of the maxilla or deficient width of the mandible, or sometimes combination of the both. Scissors bite, when left untreated without a proper dental intervention, interferes with the normal mandibular growth leading to a state where consequent disharmony in dental arch width evokes occlusal disturbances. Therefore, early preventive orthodontic treatment is necessary in patients with scissors bite. Scissors bite rarely involves anterior and posterior sites concuttently across the dental arch but usually affect single tooth. Even in the single tooth scissors bite cases, more likely to be met in the clinical fields, immediate dental intervention is indicated because continuous occlusal forces that exacerbate the already adverse axis of the posterior teeth. In this case study, patients with single tooth scissors bite, each 7, 14, 12, and 16 years old, were each treated with criss-cross elastic, fixed appliance, removable appliance, and miniscrews. With the proper selection of appliances appropriate to each specific cases, good treatment outcome can be achieved without resulting any side effects. 중심교합위의 상태에서 편측 혹은 양측으로 상악 구치부의 치아가 하악 구치부의 협측으로 위치한 경우를 scissors bite라 고 한다. 이는 상악의 폭경이 크거나 하악의 폭경이 좁은 경우 발생한다. Scissors bite의 경우 방치하게 되면 하악의 성장이 방해받게 되고 그 결과, 악궁 폭경의 부조화가 심해져 저작 장애를 일으킬 수 있으므로 조기 차단 교정이 반드시 필요하다. 실제 임상에서는 여러 치아의 scissors bite보다 최후방 구치 혹은 그 외 하나의 구치만의 single tooth scissors bite(STSB)을 보이는 경우가 많다. 이러한 STSB의 경우도 방치하게 되면 저작력으로 인하여 구치의 각도가 더욱 악화되므로 즉각적인 치료가 필요하다. 본 증례에서는 STSB를 보이는 7세, 14세, 12세, 16세의 환자에게 각각 criss-cross elastic, 고정성 장치, 가철성 장치, miniscrew를 사용하여 치료한 증례를 보고하였다. 각 환자의 증례에 적합한 장치를 잘 선택하여 사용한다면 치아를 정출시키는 등의 부작용을 야기하지 않고 양호한 결과를 얻을 수 있을 것이다

      • 난소절제로 유도된 골다공증 백서의 발치창 치유과정에 관한 조직학적 연구

        As the old aged population is on a rise, osteoporosis become considered as a major systemic disease causing severe impediment. For the purpose of knowing about the healing process of the extraction socket in the osteoporotic rat and for applying the results to modify treatment plan in the dental management of osteoporosis patient following aging and menopausing, the author induced osteoporosis by orariectomy in rats, and histologically observed the healing process of the extraction socket. The results were as follows. 1. In the control group, 2 weeks after surgery active bone formation was found and after six weeks extraction socket was filled with mature lamellated bone to the middle half. 2. In the experimental group active new bone formation was found one week after surgery and the poor trabeculae was observed composed of immature woven bone in the wall of extraction socket to six weeks. 3. In the fluroscent microscopic study the amount of bone formation of the experimental group was increased in 2 weeks than in 4 weeks, and its quantity of the newly formed bone was less than that of the control group.

      • 現行 中等學校 科學敎育의 實態와 改善方案 : On the Basis of the Analysis of the Questionaire to Secondary Science Teachers 科學敎師를 對象으로 한 設問調査分析을 中心으로

        This study is to analyze the status of current science education, and to find its improvement measure. For the analysis of current science cducation, the questionare to present science teachers, interview with science teacher and statistical data relative to education were used. The categories for the analysis were the curriculum and its management, facilities for experiments, teachers, and students. The improvement measure for the inquiring science learning are as follows: 1. The contents of learning should be systematically connected with the objec-tives of subject, and the methods of evaluation should be managed in order to measure the student's level of achievement in the light of objectives of subject. 2. Since the possession ratio of laboratories and experimental facilities is very low, a epoch-making remedy is required. Also, the management system should be improved in order to raise the level of its practical use, and the law of standard facilities should be reformed according to the new curriculum. 3. The opportunities of science teacher's training should be enlarged, and the class hours and mental burden should be lessened. 4. The teaching methods should be improved so that the student may play an active role in his class, and the number of students per one class should be diminished for the inquiring learning.

      • AZO 투명전도막의 전기 광학적 특성에 미치는 PET 기판 표면처리 효과

        In this paper aluminium-doped zinc oxide(ZnO:Al) conducting layer was deposited on polyethylene terephthalate(PET) substrate by r. f. magnetron sputtering method PET substrate was modified by a DBD(dielectric barrier discharge) plasma before sputtering to improve the electric and optical properties of ZnO:Al film and to increase also the deposition rate The effect of heat treatment time on the dectrical, optical, chemical and structural properties of ZnO:Al thin film were investigated experimentally The PET films modified with the DBD plasma showed a significant decrease in water contact angle The deposition rate of ZnO:Al film in the case of the plasma-treated substrate was also increased by around 2 times compared to the untreated substrate The minimum resistivity of about 28×10-3 Ω-cm and transmittance of about 83.3% were obtained under the experimental condition of 6min of heat treatment time.

      • 영국회사법 제459조와 지배주주권 행사의 한계

        The Limitation on the Exercise of Majority Power relating to the Sec. 459 in the UK's Companies Act. there is a general principle of company law that minority shareholders cannot sue for wrongs done to their company or complain of irregularities in the conduct of its internal affairs. This principle has come to be known as the rule in Foss v. Harbottle from the decision in which it was first clearly established: (a) the right of the minority to bar a minority action whenever they might lawfully ratify alleged misconduct: (b) the normally exclusive right of the company to a sue upon a corporate cause of action. But this rule does not extend to a case where the act complained of is either illegal or ultra vires, or is a fraud upon the minority, and there is also an exception in cases where the act done, although regular in form, in unfair and oppressive as against the minority. In American law a representative action by shareholders to enforce corporate rights, by seeking the recovery of damages for or property belonging to their corporation, is termed a derivative action. The rules now to be discussed apply where, under the fraud on minority or ultra vires exceptions to be rule in Foss v. Harbottle, the plaintiff shareholder seeks to recover damages for breach of duty form directors(or third parties) or the restitution of property for the company. And also sec. 459 allows a member to apply to the court by petition for an order under the section. The ground on which he may petition is as follows: that the company's affairs are being or have been conducted in a manner which is unfairly prejudicial to the interests of its members generally or of some parr of the members or that any actual or proposed or omission on its behalf is or would so prejudicial. Generally this article is concerned with judicial interpretation attributed to sec. 459 of the Company law's regulation.

      • 라미부딘 내성 만성 B형 간염 환자에서의 아데포비어의 치료 효과

        Backgrounds/Aims : Adefovir dipivoxil(ADV) has been shown to be effective against lamivudine resistant strain of hepatitis B virus. But continuation of lamivudine therapy or switching to Adefovir dipivoxil in patients with viral breakthrough after long term lamivudine therapy are controversial. To find efficacy of adefovir dipivoxil, we retrospectively assessed clinical course after lamivudine resistance in patients who changed adefovir dipivoxil and continued lamivudine therapy. Methods : 58 patients with lamivudine resistant HBV mutants after at least 6 months of lamivudine treatment were included in this study. 24 of the 58 patients were treated with ADV and rest of them were continued the lamivudine therapy after lamivudine resistance. The continuous lamivudine treatment group (n=34) was divided into two groups according to ALT count (ALT≧40, n=19 vs ALT<40, n=16) The clinical course and the biochemical and virological response of the switching adefovir group were compared with those of continuing lamivudine group. HBV genotypes and YMDD mutation site was anaylzed by TRUGENE HBV Genotyping. Results : At twelve months, the levels of median serum HBV DNA and ALT was decreased and albumin was improved significantly(P<0.01) in adefovir switching group compared with lamivudine sustained group, especially ALT was elevated more than 40. There is no significant differences between adefovir switching group and lamivudine sustained group (ALT<40, n=15). This study showed that adefovir dipivoxil reduces HBV replication and improves not only biochemical markers of disease activity, but also liver function. HBV genotypes of 58 patients were all C and rtM204I/V mutant was the most common. Conclusion : This study provides an evidence that adefovir dipivoxil can be effective in the treatment of lamivudine-resistant HBV mutants, especially ALT elevated.
