        Linguistic Differences in EFL Learners’ Direct and Translated Writing in Two Genres

        The current study investigated the effects of two writing genres (narrative and argumentative) and two writing task types (direct and translated) on L2 learners’ writing performance in terms of lexical and syntactic complexity. A total of 46 college freshmen were asked to write four articles, one in each genre and one in each writing task type in a counterbalanced way. The findings are as follows: 1) the genre effect was found significant both in lexical and syntactic complexity measures, irrespective of writing task type, that argumentative texts displayed greater lexical and syntactic complexity than narratives; and 2) the role of L1 use in L2 writing (writing task type) was significantly evident in syntactic complexity measures, especially in narratives, but not in lexical complexity measures except for one measure of lexical diversity. The theoretical and pedagogical significance of the findings is discussed. (Chungnam National University)

      • Awareness Study on the Accessibility of Home Appliances for People with Disabilities

        Accessibility was examined and evaluated for the home appliances made in Korea. Even though the home appliances are essential to everyday life, people with disabilities have limited access to them due to lack of accessibility features in the interfaces and controls. The needs of the disabled people in using various types of home appliances were examined through a survey. A survey on awareness of universal design of home appliances and accessibility-related standards was also conducted with the engineers and product designers of many big-name electronics companies. We found out a serious lack of understanding in accessibility and of awareness in related standards among the engineers and designers. Some suggestions were made for developing programs to increase the awareness of accessibility and to provide electronics companies with appropriate standards in home appliances.

        Emphasizing the government"s efforts to strengthen social responsibility and support for daycare center and daycare center for the growing number of working women, and to relieve the stress on the daycare center of working women as a result of the publicity of daycare center policies and the localization of daycare center have. In this study, the current status of daycare centers and childcare services using public data centered on Seoul and Incheon is investigated and the factors of type of daycare center that affect the filling rate are derived using bigdata technology.

      • A Study on Developing Methodology of Evaluating an Accessibility of Home Appliances

        Concerns about the quality of life and accessibility for people with disability have surfaced as a serious issue from early 2000 in Korea. Although, the laws has been established as a result, they are biased to information technologies and architectures. It rarely concerns about house appliances for everyday use. Therefore, the countermeasure that evaluates the level of accessibility of house appliances is urgently required. Thus, the purpose of this paper is to offer accessibility checklist, which can be used as a specific guidelines to improve the accessibility of home appliances, and to derive the quantitative score for service providers and designers. The laws relevant to accessibility and guidelines for the disabled are used to the evaluation items in checklist. However, the checklist have limitation that can"t address the level of accessibility in quantitative way. The AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) and QFD(Quality Function Deployment) methods are used to give weight on each group in checklist. This method can show the actual level of accessibility of house appliances. Moreover, service providers and product designers can inspect the level of accessibility of their product by themselves.

      • 가전제품 접근성의 정량적 평가를 위한 방법론 연구

        장애인의 수가 점차 늘어감에 따라 접근성과 장애인들의 삶의 질 향상에 대한 관심이 고조되고 있다. 허나 현재까지 가전제품에 대한 접근성 평가가 제대로 이루어 진 바 없고, 평가 방법론에 대한 연구도 미진한 실정이다. 이에 본 연구에서는 가전제품의 접근성 평가를 위한 방법으로 HTA(Hierarchical Task Analysis, 계층적 과업 분석)를 제시하며 작성법과 작성예시를 함께 기술하였다. 이를 바탕으로 5 개의 장애유형을 대상으로 실제 관찰과 인터뷰를 실시한 후 일반인 사용자 HTA 와 비교를 통해 접근성 평가를 실시하였다. 본 논문은 향후 장애인을 대상으로 하는 접근성 평가의 정량화에 활용될 수 있을 것이다. Nowadays, The people with disability are increasing, and the concept of accessibility is perceived more important than before. However, there are few studies and methodologies to evaluate the accessibility for house appliances and cases that are regarded as properly evaluated. In this paper, we suggest a methodology, HTA(Hierarchical Task Analysis), describe how to make it and the results from accessibility test, based on it. We expect this can be used to quantify accessibility evaluation for house appliances.

      • 고령자를 위한 병원 안내 시스템 설계 및 사용성 평가 : 사용자 중심의 화면 인터페이스 및 인터랙션 설계와 시나리오 기반의 사용성 평가

        본 연구에서는 고령자의 인지적인 어려움과 모바일 플랫폼의 한계를 고려하여 고령자들이 본인의 진료 절차에 대해 실시간 안내 서비스를 받을 수 있는 병원 안내 시스템을 설계하고, 그에 적합한 사용성 평가를 실시하고자 한다. 고령자에게 특화된 병원 안내 시스템을 설계하기 위해 안내 기능을 일정 안내와 경로 안내로 세분화하고, 각각의 기능에 따라 화면 인터페이스와 화면 전환을 위한 인터랙션을 설계하였다. 본 연구에서 제안하고자 하는 병원 안내 시스템의 효용성 및 사용성 검증을 위해 프로토타입을 제작하고, 이를 바탕으로 실 사용자를 대상으로 한 시나리오 기반의 사용성 평가를 실시하였다. 이를 통해 향후 고령자들을 대상으로 하는 모바일 서비스의 사용성 및 부가가치를 높이는데 활용될 수 있을 것이다. This study aim to design guidance system, which helps users to know both clinical process and where to go, and carry out proper usability test. This system gives information in real-time. Difficulties of cognition of elder people and limitation of mobile platform are fully considered in this system. We separated function of this system into two: navigating the ways and informing schedules. The interaction for changeover display and interface of display depending on its own function is also designed. We made prototype to verify usability and utility of this system. We also implemented usability test based on scenario that aimed to users. This can be used to enhance usability and added value of mobile service that is for elderly.

      • A Study on Changes in Foreign Tourists Using Big Data Analysis Method

        Background/Objectives: In this study, by analyzing foreign tourists entering the country by country, we tried to study the changes in the inflow of foreign tourists according to the monthly pattern. Methods/Statistical analysis: For the purpose of using statistical data on foreign tourists entering the country for the purpose of using it as basic data for establishing tourism policy and marketing strategy by the Korea Tourism Organization, data on monthly foreign tourist statistics are collected, and pandas and matplotlib technologies provided by Python are used. Thus, data preprocessing and time series data were analyzed. Findings: The number of foreign tourists steadily increased from 2010 to 2016, but the number of tourists decreased sharply in early 2017. It was analyzed that the number of tourists gradually increased from mid-2017. Every summer, the influx of tourists was analyzed to be very high, and especially in the summer of 2015, the number of tourists was analyzed to have decreased significantly. Improvements/Application: In this study, the trend of monthly tourists by country was analyzed, and if the relationship between social issues in the section in which the change trend curve rapidly decreases, it is likely to be possible to analyze the factors that influence the change of tourists.

      • Design and Analysis of Fiber Bragg Grating-based Contact Force Sensor for Probe-based Confocal Laser Endomicroscopy

        Probe-based confocal laser endomicroscopy (pCLE) allows imaging of targeted tissue with high resolution in situ and in vivo. For stable imaging of pCLE, it is essential to consistently maintain distance and force between an imaging instrument and the tissue surface because its depth-of-focus is limited. Although force control schemes with robotic devices has been proposed to maintain the contact force, use of conventional sensors still pose problems. For example, the relatively large sizes of the conventional sensors hinder embedding the pCLE instrument in the sensors and accurately measuring force delivered from the pCLE probe. In this study, we propose a fiber Bragg grating (FBG)-based force sensor that owns a hollow and slender structure. The FBG-based sensor possesses great advantages over other conventional sensors, such as high sensitivity, small dimensions, sterilization, and biocompatibility for medical applications. The dual structure of the proposed sensor is designed to improve force balance between axial and transverse forces while measuring 3-DOF forces. Finite elements analysis was carried out to investigate the feasibility of the structure. As a result, the proposed sensor has a resolution of 3.5 mN for transverse force within a force range of range of 7.9 N and a resolution of 7.0 mN for axial loading up to 22.7 N. Future plans include the fabrication of the sensor and performance evaluation.

        Local radiotherapy for palliation in multiple myeloma patients with symptomatic bone lesions

        Purpose: To evaluate the clinical outcomes of symptomatic bone lesions in patients with multiple myeloma (MM) who received local radiotherapy (LRT). Materials and Methods: Fifty-one patients with 87 symptomatic bone lesions treated via LRT were analyzed. LRT was delivered at a median total dose of 21 Gy (range, 12 to 40 Gy) in a median of 7 fractions (range, 4 to 20 fractions). The clinical outcomes of LRT and the factors affecting treatment response were assessed. Results: After a median follow-up time of 66.7 weeks, symptom relief was achieved for 85 of 87 lesions (97.7%). The median time to symptom relief was 7 days from the start of LRT (range, 1 to 67 days). The duration of in-field failure-free survival ranged from 1.1 to 450.9 weeks (median, 66.7 weeks). The radiation dose or use of previous and concurrent chemotherapy was not significantly associated with in-field failure for LRT (p = 0.354, 0.758, and 0.758, respectively). Conclusion: Symptomatic bone lesions in patients with MM can be successfully treated with LRT. A higher radiation dose or the use of concurrent chemotherapy may not influence the in-field disease control. A relatively low radiation dose could achieve remission of symptoms in patients with MM.
