Enhanced Maturation and Function of Dendritic Cells Using Hydrogel Coated Plate and Antigen Electroporation

<P>Dendritic cells (DCs) are potent antigen-presenting cells that can be matured <I>in vitro</I> from immature dendritic cells (iDCs) in the presence of several biological agents such as cytokine cocktail, CD40L, TNF-a and antigen loading, which are necessary and achieved using various protocols, such as lipofection, passive pulse or electroporation. However, these DCs maturation protocols may cause with a significant loss of cells because of cellular attachment and spreading during culturing. Some biomaterials that influence adhesion and development of cells have been used in cell culture techniques, and it was thought that they might be applied on the culture of DCs. In this study, we used polyHEMA, which is a hydrogel coating biomaterial that prevents DCs from adherence, and investigated whether hydrogel coating affects the maturation of iDCs. The efficiency in the generation of mDCs was improved through hydrogel coating procedure and a dendritic cell maturation marker, CD83, was significantly increased in hydrogel-coated culture condition. The antigen-loaded mDCs from electroporation were further expressed the CD83. The mDCs generated in the hydrogel-coated culture condition showed more, longer and thicker dendrites, and produced more amounts of cytokines such as IL-12 and IFN-γ. Therefore, it was suggested that the hydrogel-coated culture condition could improve function of mDCs.<fn><P>Cheol-Hun Son and Jae-Ho Bae contributed equally to this work.</P></fn></P>

서울의 Penicillinase Producing Neisseria gonorrhoeae 발생빈도(1998)

In recent years, gonorrhea has been pandemic and remains one of the most common STDs in the world, especially in developing countries. For the detection of a more effective therapeutic regimen and assessing the prevalence of Penicillinase Producing Neisseria gonorrhoeae(PPNG), we have been trying to study the patients who have visited the Venereal Disease Clinic of Choong-Ku Public Health Center in Seoul since 1980 by menas of the chromogenic cephalosporin method. In 1998, 93 strians of N. genorrhoeae were isolated, among which 60(64.5%) were PPNG. The prevalence of PPNG in Seoul, which had been decreased to 39% in 1996 after a peak of 74.3% in 1993, is increased to 64.5% in 1998.

Trichorhinophalangeal syndrome(TRPS) typeⅠis characterized by sparse and slow-growing hairs, pear-shaped nose, elongated philtrum, thin upper lip, and bone deformities, especially, cone-shaped epiphyses of the phalanges. The syndrome is inherited in an autosomal dominant manner. We report a case of TRPS typeⅠ with alopecia like male pattern baldness and Perthes-like changes on the right hip joint. 특화거리 조성의 변천과정에서 나타난 Network의 중요성에 관한 연구

Recently, the Specified streets are designated in the many cities. The specified street is formed naturally by gathering the same type of shops in the same street. The purpose of the specified street is to enhance and to make more lively the characteristics of the street. These specified street has the network consisted of elements, namely shop owner, the authorities, the consumers, etc. In the beginning, we examined how specific streets are made and composed in Seoul and Inchun: the street of the culture, the rodeo, and the furniture. As it turned out, the formation of the network organization in the specific streets showed that how much it is important that it impacted managing. The members of network work together for improvement of the street by negotiation and cooperation. In that process, the street scenery is also improved. This network promotes the spontaneous participation of the members of the affair. In the result of that, the effect of the network is a core which is one of the factors managing and improving specific street. A continuous examination of the more study would strengthen the importance of the network in changing specific street construction.

慶北地方山羊에 發生한 Anaplasmosis

1) Four goats which had shown anemia, emaciation, nasal discharge and cough for a long time were splenectomized and their blood were examined thereafter. In the results Anaplasma-like bodies were detected in their circulating red blood cells, and the anemia became more marked after the splenectomy. 2) In dry fixed preparations stained with Giemsa, the Anaplasma-like bodies were appeared as minute spherical points measuring from 0.3 to 1.1 micron in diameter, located usually near the margin or rarely center of red blood cells, stained deeply and took red or reddish violet colour. Ordinarily there was only one body per cell although 2 or 3 were seen in some cells. Most of the bodies were spherical in shape. Besides the typical deeply and uniformly staining spherical form, diad, triad or ring forms were occasionally observed in some cells. These findings were coincident with the morphology of Anaplasma described by previous workers. 3) Two healthy goats, a healthy sheep and a splenectomized co w infected with small-type piroplasma were artificially inoculated with the blood of the goats infected naturally with the bodies. In the results it was found that the goats and sheep were appearantly infected with the same boides, whereas the cow did not show any signs of infection. These results seemed to be coincident with the pathogenecity of Anaplasma ovis described by previous workers. 4) From the standpoint of the morphology and pathogenecity of the bodies observed in the present study, it may be concluded that the bodies are Anaplasma ovis. This is the first report of anaplasmosis of goats in Korea.

편측성 순ㆍ구개열자의 기도 분석

본 연구는 순·구개열자의 호흡과 발음, 그리고 안모 성장에 영향을 미칠 수 있는 기도에 대한 평가를 위해 시행되었다. 이를 위해 부산대학교병원 치과교정과에 내원한 완전 편측성 순·구개열자 78명(남성 48명, 여성 30명)의 측모두부규격방사선 사진을 촬영하여 상기도 및 설골에 대한 전후방적, 수직적 거리 및 각도를 계측하였다. 연구대상은 사춘기 성장급등기를 기준으로 두 집단으로 나누었고, 각각의 집단을 다시 남녀 성별에 따라 구분하여 비교하였다. 계측된 자료들을 통계처리하여 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 1.사춘기 성장급등기 이후 남녀 모두에서 설골 위치가 보다 낮아졌다. 2.사춘기 성장급등기 이후 남녀 모두에서 인두 용적에 관계된 CV3ia-APH, PNS-ad수치가 크게 증가하였는데, 이는 adenoid 감소와 하악의 전하방 성장과 관련된 것으로 사춘기 이후 호흡 및 발음의 변화에 영향을 미친다. 3.사춘기 성장급등기를 이후 남성에서 모든 계측항목이 여성보다 큰 증가를 보였으며, 이는 성별간 성장량의 차이에 따른 것으로 판단된다. 4.남녀 성별간 비교에서 사춘기 성장급등기 전후 시기 모두에서 남성의 설골 위치가 여성보다 낮았다. 5.남녀 성별간 비교에서 사춘기 성장급등기 이후 남성에서 CV3ia-APH수치가 매우 크게 증가했고, 이는 남성의 하악골 성장이 보다 커 악이복근등 근활성이 야기되었기 때문인 것으로 판단된다. This study was designed to analysis the airway which affects to breathing, speech, and facial growth pattern in unilateral cleft lip and palate patients. Upper airway and the position of hyoid bone pattern were analyzed on the lateral cephalometric radiographs of the 78 subjects of complete unilateral cleft lip and palate group and each group was divided two sub-groups by circumpubertal growth peak and gender. These data were statistically analyzed to examine the difference between pre-circumpubertal growth peak group and post-circumpubertal growth peak one, and between male and female group. The results of this study were as follows. 1.After circumpubertal growth peak stage, the position of hyoid bone was lower than before in both male and female group. 2.After circumpubertal growth peak stage, the measurement were increased in CV3ia-APH, PNS-ad which related to the volume of pharyngeal space. This was due to the decrease of adenoid and anteroinferior growth of mandible and affected to breathing and speech after circumpubertal growth peak. 3.During circumpubertal growth peak stage, all measurements increased more in male than female group, which due to the different amount of growth in different gender. 4.The position of hyoid bone was lower in male than female group in all age group. 5.After circumpubertal growth peak stage, CV3ia-APH increased more in male. This was due to the more growth in madible of male which resulted in the activation of digastric muscle.

새로운 방법의 Length Scale 정의가 Averaged Navier-Stokes 방정식을 구하기 위해 제안되었다. 새로운 방법을 사용하는 동기는 어떻게 하면 쉽게 Length Scale를 정의할 수 있을까 하는 관찰을 통해서이다. 논문은 또한 난류흐름을 일반적으로 이해하는 방향으로 기술되었다. 대부분의 난류모델에 관한 연구가 난류 본래의 특징보다는 Parameter의 값을 어떤 값으로 선택했는가 하는 연구에 국한되어왔다. 난류흐름을 이해하기 위해 변수의 변화가 아니라 물리적 의미가 보다 중요한 것이다. 그러므로 쉽게 물리적으로 난류의 본래의 의미로 설명하는 것이 교육적으로 매우 중요한 의미가 있다. 서로 다른 3종류의 곡면을 가진 Duct에 대한 해답을 구하기 위해 여러 가지 Boundary Condition이 CFD(Computational Fluid Dynamics)관점에서 또한 제안되었다.

PHC 파일 시공성능 향상을 위한 연직 자동제어기의 개발

The objective of the research is to develop the automated vertical controllable equipment for PHC piles. The motivation for the research is that inherent problems related to vertical control during pile driving. The paper explains the current vertical control methods and problems, design and manufacturing of the pilot-type automated equipment, and its testing and discussions of the results.
