In the present study we evaluated the anti-inflammatory potential of 3-hydroxy-4,7-megastigmadien-9-one (Comp) isolated from Ulva pertusa Kjellman, in LPS-stimulated bone marrow-derived dendritic cells (BMDCs). Comp treatment exhibited strong dose dependent inhibition of IL-12 p40 and IL-6 cytokine production with $IC_{50}$ values of $7.85{\pm}0.32$ and $7.86{\pm}0.18$, respectively in LPS-stimulated BMDCs. Treatment of Comp inhibited MAPKs and NF-${\kappa}B$ pathways in LPS-stimulated BMDCs by inhibiting the phosphorylation of ERK1/2, JNK1/2, p38 and I${\kappa}B$. Thus, these results suggest that Comp have a significant anti-inflammatory property and affirm further studies concerning the potentials of Comp for medicinal use.

Y-type hexagonal ferrite Co2Sr2Fe12O22 was prepared by microemulsion route. A conducting polymer, polypyrrole was chemically synthesized and doped with dodecylbenzenesulphonic acid (PPy$DBSA). FTIR and magnetic properties of Co2Sr2Fe12O22 were investigated and compared with composite made by mixing the Co2Sr2Fe12O22 with this conducting polymer PPyeDBSA by 1:1 molar ratio. Phase analysis was performed by using X-ray diffraction (XRD). The microstructure was examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) showing heterogonous distribution of grains. The field dependent magnetic properties of the prepared samples were investigated at room temperature by using vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). It has been observed that mixing of polymer in ferrite plays a crucial role in enhancing the coercivity, while saturation magnetization (Ms) and remanance were observed to decrease. Due to fine grain size, the density of grain boundaries increases where the domain wall pinning can take place, hence the coercivity of the composite samples increases. Appreciable improved value of coercivity guaranteed the use of these synthesized materials in the recording media, which is ¼1896(Oe) in the present samples. The suitable signal-to-noise ratio in the high density recording media can be achieved due to small particles size of this synthesized composite, which is expected in the present ferriteepolymer composite sample.

Ishige sinicola (I. sinicola) is an edible brown alga native to South Korea. In the present study, we screened the anti-inflammatory activity of monoolein isolated from I. sinicola. Monoolein pretreatment in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated primary murine bone marrow-derived dendritic cells (BMDCs) showed strong dose-dependent inhibition of interleukin (IL)-12 p40, IL-6, and TNF-α cytokine production with IC50 values of 1.69±0.02, 6.87±0.37, and 5.19±0.56 μM, respectively. Pretreatment of monoolein attenuated the activation of MAPK and NF-κB pathways in the LPSstimulated BMDCs by inhibiting the phosphorylation of p38, ERK1/2, JNK1/2, and IκBα. Furthermore, monoolein inhibited the production of NO and iNOS in RAW264.7 cells. Overall, our findings indicate that monoolein has a significant anti-inflammatory activity, and further studies regarding the potential of monoolein for medicinal use is warranted.

Different environmental and genetic factors have been attributed to the etiology of colorectal cancer. Dysbiotic gut microbiota is associated with initiation and progression of colon carcinogenesis. Hyperactivation of STAT3 promotes carcinogenesis by upregulating cell proliferation, survival, tumor-induced immunosupression and angiogenesis. IRAK-M is a negative regulator of toll-like receptor signaling and inhibits innate immune response. The cancer cell may exploit this property of IRAK-M and evade host immune surveillance. Recently, it has been found that IRAK-M provide controlled feed back to bacteria involved in colorectal cancer by reducing antibacterial response in mice. Furthermore, IRAK-M increased the stability of STAT3 in tumor cells that support tumor promotion by upregulating cell proliferation and survival. Thus, it is suggested that IRAK-M promotes colitis associated colon cancer by enhancing bacterial colonization and stabilization of STAT3.

Photocatalysis has emerged as a promising technology for solving global environmental and energy challenges. The selectivity of low-cost, non-toxic and thermochemically stable materials for photocatalyticapplications is crucial to meet the industrial standards. Despite of owing unique layered structure, distinctelectronic band structure and tunable optical properties, the bismuth oxyhalides BiOX (X = Cl, Brand I) photocatalytic materials suffer from rapid recombination of charge carriers and limited lightabsorption issues. These limitations restrict the photocatalytic efficiency and industrial applications ofBiOX materials. The focus of this critical review is to discuss recent developments in the design and modificationof existing and new BiOX materials for getting optimum photocatalytic response from thesematerials. The key elements of the review are BiOX synthesis methods, BiOX driven water splitting, singleand double stage hydrogen evolution systems, degradation of organic pollutants and trends of boostingthe photocatalytic efficiency of the BiOX materials. Finally, this insight discusses the existing issues andfuture perspectives of BiOX photocatalysts.

During the lightning activities every air terminal has the equal chances to be hit by the lightning fashes and it produce electric feld in the surrounding. Therefore, with the passage of time when the lightning air terminals become aged due to acidic rain and chemical contamination, lightning air terminal (LAT) bypasses on side edges takes place which has not been given much attention by the researchers. A modifed lightning protection system (LPS) was proposed in this paper using experimental and electromagnetic feld approach. One of the LAT on diferent geometrical structure was selected as sacrifcial point in order to reduce the chances of LAT bypasses. The modifed protection system can be referred by diferent standard to make sure buildings protection. All the experimental work was done using high voltage impulse and ANSYS/MAXWELL was used as a simulation tool. The modifed protection technique will help diferent standards to provide comprehensive protective measures against lightning.
