        This treatiese is to provide basic data to contribute to development of our textiles industry by introducing the representing textiles of each times under the studying scope from the ancient times to the Japanese textiles which is culturally neighboring country upon recognition of imporance of the material in fashion. The chronological changes and characteristic style of Japanese textiles are as follows : 1. The origin of textiles in Japan was about 300 years B.C. When the tillage culture was about to begin and the yarn in Jomon(繩文 時代) period was coarse enough which used of bark tress and the faber in Yayoi period(彌生 時代) plan textiles made by cotton fiber now on exhibition. 2. In Aska period(飛鳥 時代) as it was origin of the Japanese art and there were consecutive grid flory pattern, tortoise skin & flower pattern, lion & phoenix pattern's Dokganggeum(獨江錦) 3. In Nare period(奈良 時代) which was golden age in the Japanese history the silk fabric was especially developed and Chinese grass pattern(唐草 文樣) under-tree animal pattern(樹下動物 文樣) and woonkan pattern(量澗 文樣) were the main stream therof. The "lion-tooth pattern silk with speckles"(獅子 齒文 長班錦) of the Seiso-In Hall. 4. In Heian period(平安 時代) the diplomacy with the continent was lessened and the Japanese own culture was formed and the ceremorial costume which emphasized style and color and beauty Some krido of Brocades in Nara period for weaving patterns were "tiger pattern silk under tea tree" of the Seiso-In Hall.

      • Synthesis and Properties of Hydroquinone Glycosides Synthesized Using Leuconostoc mesenteroides Glycansucrases

        In this seminar I will briefly introduce about current research progress in our Lab related with glycoside synthesis using glycansucrases and carbohydase inhibitor screening using Grid. We are synthesizing various glycosides of the hydroquinone for the improvement of antioxidant activity. Hydroquinone (HQ) functions as a skin whitening agent, but it has the potential to cause dermatitis. We synthesized a novel HQ fructoside (HF), HQ galactoside and HQ glucoside as potential skin whitening agents by reacting glycansucrases from Leuconostoc mesenteroides with HQ as an acceptor and sucrose as a donor. The product was purified using butanol partition and silica-gel column chromatography. One of them HF synthesis was determined using a response surface methodology and the final optimum condition was 350-mM HQ, 115-mM sucrose, and 0.70 U/ml levansucrase, and the final HF produced was 1.09 g/l. HF showed anti-oxidation activities and inhibition against tyrosinase. The IC50 of DPPH scavenging activity was 5.83-mM, showing higher anti-oxidant activity compared to β-arbutin (IC50 = 6.04-mM). The Ki value of HF (0.67-mM) against tyrosinase was smaller than that of β-arbutin (Ki = 2.8-mM). The inhibition of lipid peroxidation by HF was 108.12% that of HQ (100%) and much higher than that of β–arbutin (0.81% of HQ). Virtual screening (VS) was applied for discovery of new inhibitors for the human intestinal maltase (HMA) enzyme. VS of 308 307 compounds was performed with HMA using 4700 CPUs and AutoDock 3.0.5 in a WISDOM (Wide In Silico Docking On Malaria) production environment. The 42 best ranked compounds containing hydrogen bond interaction with key residues from VS were tested in vitro for their inhibitory activities against the recombinant HMA from Pichia pastoris. Compounds 17 and 18 were identified as competitive inhibitors for enzyme inhibition with Ki values of 19.8 and 19.6 μM, respectively. In contrast to acarbose, the two compounds showed no inhibition on human pancreatic α-amylase, suggesting potential inhibitors with fewer side effects, including abdominal discomforts.

        혈액투석 환자에서 혈관내피세포 기능이상과 관련된 인자들에 관한 연구

        목적: 동맥경화성 심혈관계 질환은 아직도 투석 환자에서 사망의 가장 흔한 원인이다. 혈관내피세포의 기능이상은 동맥경화증 발생의 가장 초기 단계에 발생하는 중요한 과정으로, 비가역적인 변화인 동맥경화증과는 달리 회복 가능한 가역적인 변화이므로, 이 단계에서의 조기 진단과 치료가 가능하다면 환자의 예후 향상에 크게 기여할 수 있을 것이다. 따라서, 본 연구에서는 혈액투석 환자의 혈관내피세포 및 평활근세포의 기능을 조사하고 심혈관계 질환의 발생과 예후 결정에 중요한 인자인 전신염증반응의 지표, 환자의 영양 상태 및 기타 생화학적 지표와의 상관관계를 조사하였다. 방법: 임상적으로 안정된 혈액투석 환자 37명 (평균연령 51.8세, 평균투석기간 37.9개월)와 11명의 건강 대조군, 24명의 고혈압 대조군에서 상완동맥 도플러 초음파를 이용하여 혈관내피세포 기능을 측정하였다. 내피세포 의존성 혈관확장능 (FMD), 니트로글리세린을 설하로 투여한 후의 내피세포 비의존성 혈관확장능 (EIV), 최대반응시간 (PT) 등의 지표를 측정하고, 허혈성 심질환 (IHD)의 이환 여부, 환자의 영양 상태, hsCRP 농도 및 다른 생화학적 지표와의 상관관계를 조사하였다. 결과: 1. 혈액투석 환자의 FMD와 EIV는 건강 대조군에 비하여 감소되어 있었고, 각 반응의 PT는 두 대조군에 비해 지연되어 있었다. 고혈압 대조군에서는 FMD만 감소되어 있었고 EIV는 정상 대조군과 유사하였다. 2. FMD와 EIV는 혈중 hsCRP 농도와 각각 의미 있는 음의 상관관계가 있었으나, 연령, 투석기간, RAS 차단제의 복용 여부, 알부민, 프리알부민, 총콜레스테롤, 중성지방, 호모시스테인 농도와는 상관관계가 없었다. 3. 투석 환자 중 IHD가 있는 환자가 IHD가 없는 환자에 비하여 평균투석기간이 길었고, SGA에 의해 평가된 영양실조 환자가 많았다. hsCRP의 농도는 IHD가 있는 환자에서 증가되어 있었다 (중앙값: 1.43 vs. 0.15 mg/dL, p<0.05). IHD가 있는 환자에서 FMD (4.1±2.5 vs. 6.4±2.6%, p<0.05)와 EIV (8.7±4.1 vs. 13.8±7.2%, p<0.05)가 유의하게 감소되어 있었다. 결론: 혈액투석 환자에서 환자의 전신염증반응은 혈관내 피세포와 평활근세포의 기능 결정에 중요한 역할을 할 것으로 생각된다. CRP 농도의 증가가 전신염증반응 존재의 간접적인 지표인지 또는 혈관 기능이상에 직접적으로 작용하는지의 여부와 그 기전에 대해서는 향후 전향적인 연구와 in vitro 실험이 필요할 것으로 사료된다. Purpose: Endothelial dysfunction is an event in the atherosclerotic process usually considered reversible at its early stage. Early detection, therefor, may improve the prognosis in the cardiovascular disease. The aim of this study was to investigate the vascular function in hemodialysis (HD) patients and to explore its relation to other various parameters with a specific emphasis on systemic inflammatory reaction (SIR), nutritional status and the presence of ischemic heart disease (IHD). Methods: Flow-mediated endothelium-dependent vasodilatation (FMD) was measured, using Doppler sonogram, in 37 stable HD patients, 11 healthy people and 24 hypertensive controls. Nitroglycerineinduced endothelium-independent vasodilatation (EIV) and peak reaction time (PT) of each FMD and EIV were also measured. Results: FMD in HD patients was decreased compared to healthy group whereas it was comparable in HD patients and hypertensive control. EIV in HD patients was significantly decreased compared to healthy and hypertensive controls. PT of each FMD and EIV was significantly delayed in HD patients. Each FMD and EIV showed a negative correlation with serum hsCRP level, but no significant correlations of FMD with other parameters were noted. Both FMD and EIV were further decreased in HD patients with IHD than non-IHD group. Conclusion: Our study confirmed a characteristic pattern of vascular dysfunction in HD patients: the impaired endothelial and smooth muscle function with a delayed reaction time. Importantly, SIR was one of the important factors determining vascular dysfunction in HD patients. Further studies will be necessary to define the causative role of SIR on endothelial dysfunction and the effect of inflammation-modulating therapy.

        A Case of Paraneoplastic Limbic Encephalitis Associated with Small Cell Lung Cancer

        Paraneoplastic limbic encephalitis (PLE) is a rare syndrome characterized by memory impairment, affective and behavioral disturbances and seizures. Among many different neoplasms known to cause PLE, small cell lung cancer (SCLC) is the most frequently reported. The pathogenesis is not fully understood but is believed to be autoimmune-related. We experienced a patient with typical clinical features of PLE. A 67-year-old man presented with seizure and disorientation. Brain magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated high signal intensity in the bilateral amygdala and hippocampus in flair and T2-weighted images suggestive of limbic encephalitis. Cerebrospinal fluid tapping revealed no evidence of malignant cells or infection. Positron emission tomography/computed tomography showed a lung mass with pleural effusion and a consequent biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of PLE associated with SCLC. The patient was subsequently treated with chemotherapy and neurologic symptoms gradually improved.

        Effects of Several Cosmetic Preservatives on ROS-Dependent Apoptosis of Rat Neural Progenitor Cells

        Benzalkonium chloride, diazolidinyl urea, and imidazolidinyl urea are commonly used preservatives in cosmetics. Recent reports suggested that these compounds may have cellular and systemic toxicity in high concentration. In addition, diazolidinyl urea and imidazolidinyl urea are known formaldehyde (FA) releasers, raising concerns for these cosmetic preservatives. In this study, we investigated the effects of benzalkonium chloride, diazolidinyl urea, and imidazolidinyl urea on ROS-dependent apoptosis of rat neural progenitor cells (NPCs) in vitro. Cells were isolated and cultured from embryonic day 14 rat cortices. Cultured cells were treated with 1-1,000 nM benzalkonium chloride, and $1-50{\mu}M$ diazolidinyl urea or imidazolidinyl urea at various time points to measure the reactive oxygen species (ROS). PI staining, MTT assay, and live-cell imaging were used for cell viability measurements. Western blot was carried out for cleaved caspase-3 and cleaved caspase-8 as apoptotic protein markers. In rat NPCs, ROS production and cleaved caspase-8 expression were increased while the cell viability was decreased in high concentrations of these substances. These results suggest that several cosmetic preservatives at high concentrations can induce neural toxicity in rat brains through ROS induction and apoptosis.

        The Influence of Transformational Leadership Exhibited by Organizational Leaders on Organizational Commitment : Focusing on the Mediating Effect of Knowledge Management Activities

        본 연구는 상사의 변혁적 리더십이 지식경영활동과 조직몰입에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지를 분석하였으며, 상사의 변혁적 리더십과 조직몰입의 관계에서 지식경영활동이 매개효과를 나타내는지를 분석한 실증연구이다. 이를 위한 연구방법으로서 본 논문은 서비스/제조/IT 대기업 종사자 635명을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였고, 이를 토대로 산업별 변수간의 관계에 대하여 비교·분석하였다. 본 연구에서 사용한 용어에 대한 정의를 살펴보면, 변혁적 리더십은 목표달성에 그치지 않고 변화와 혁신을 추구하며, 조직구성원들이 지니고 있는 잠재적 역량과 강점을 개발하고 자신감과 열정을 증대시키며, 긍정적 강점을 자극하여 기대했던 것보다 높은 성과를 달성하도록 한다. 이러한 변혁적 리더십은 조직유효성을 증진시키는 선행요인으로 중요하게 인지되었다. 본 연구의 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 상사의 변혁적 리더십이 지식경영활동에 모두 유의한정(+)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 상사의 변혁적 리더십이 조직몰입에 모두 유의한 정(+)의영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 지식경영활동도 조직몰입에 유의한 정(+)의 영향을 미치는 것으로나타났다. 넷째, 상사의 변혁적 리더십이 조직몰입간에 지식경영활동의 매개역할에 관해서 부분매개효과를나타내는 것으로 분석되었다. 다섯째, 각 집단별로 분석해보면 상사의 변혁적 리더십이 지식경영활동에 미치는 영향에서는 서비스업이 가장 큰 것으로 나타났으며, 지식경영활동이 조직몰입에 미치는 영향에서도서비스업이 가장 큰 것으로 나타났다. 또한 상사의 변혁적 리더십이 조직몰입에 미치는 영향에서는 IT업이 가장 큰 것으로 나타났다. 마지막으로 위와 같은 분석결과를 토대로, 변혁적 리더십이 지식경영활동과조직몰입에 미치는 영향에 대한 결과의 의미와 산업별 차이에 대한 의미를 중심으로 시사점을 논의하였고연구의 한계점도 제시하였다. This empirical study analyzed the influence of transformational leadership on knowledge management activities and organizational commitment, and examined the mediating effect of knowledge management in the relationship between transformational leadership and organizational commitment. A survey was employed as the research method. The survey targeted 635 participants working in the service, manufacturing, and IT industries. The results were used to compare and analyze the relationships among industry-specific variables. Transformational leadership is defined as the tendency to strive for change and innovation despite the achievement of objectives, develop the potential capabilities and strengths that each member of the organization possesses, amplify their self-esteem and passion, and lead them to surpass their expected objectives by stimulating positive strengths. Such type of leadership has been perceived as a precedent that enhances organizational effectiveness. In summary, this study has yielded the following results: First, the transformational leadership exhibited by organizational leaders was found to have a significant positive impact on knowledge management activities as well as organizational commitment. Second, knowledge management activities were found to have a significant positive influence on organizational commitment. Third, the transformational leadership exhibited by organizational leaders was found to have a partial mediating effect on the mediating role of knowledge management activities in the relationship with organizational commitment. Fourth, analyzing industry-wise, the influence of transformational leadership on knowledge management activities was the most significant in the service industry, which was also the case for the influence of knowledge management activities on organizational commitment. The influence of leaders’ transformational leadership on organizational commitment was the most significant in the information technology industry. Finally, based on the aforementioned research results, suggestions were made regarding the meaning of the influence of transformational leadership on knowledge management activities and organizational commitment and the differences by industry thereof, while also suggesting the limitations of this work.

        Nitric Oxide (NO), derived from L-arginine, is produced by two types (constitutive and inducible) of nitric oxide synthase (NOS: cNOS and iNOS). The NO produced in large amounts by the iNOS is known to be responsible for the vasodilation and hypotension observed in septic shock and inflammation. The inhibitors of iNOS, thus, may be useful candidate for the treatment of inflammatory diseases accompanied by the overproduction of NO. We prepared alcoholic extracts of herbal drugs which have been used for the treatment of inflammation in oriental medicine. We have screened the inhibitory activity of NO production in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-activated macrophages after the treatment of these extracts. Among the 81 kinds of extracts of herbal drugs, 34 extracts showed potent inhibitory activity of NO production above 50% at the concentration of 50 (μg/ml. The inhibitory activities of NO production were also evaluated for several solvent fractions at three different concentrations. Especially, hexane soluble fractions of Agrimonia pilosa, Hydrangea serrata, Machilus thunbergii, Prunella vulgaris, Saussurea lappa, Tussilago farfara, and ethyl acetate soluble fractions of Angelica gigas, Ostericum koreanum, Torilis japonica, Perilla frutescence showed moderate activity at 10 and/ or 25 (μg/ml. These fractions are promising candidates for the study of the activity-guided chromatographic purification of active compounds.
