Aromatic polyurethane dispersions were synthesized with dimethylolpropionic acid (DMPA), isophorone diisocyanate(IPDI), and aromatic polyester polyol, prepared chemical reaction of esterification and polycondensation, The structures of these polyurethanes were characterized by FT0IR, H-NMR, and the properties were measured with DSC, TGA. Increase aromatic polyol contents made of unplasticized polyurethane dispersions. As the aromatic structures in polyurethane dispersions introduced, glass transition temperature(T_(g)) and thermal stability increased. In this polyurethane dispersions increased with DMPA concentrations, particle size decreased and dispersible stability increased and T_(g) increased over 50℃.

Background : Left ventricular diastolic dysfunction is now recognized as a significant cause of cardiac symptoms even in patient with normal systolic ventricular function. During the last several years, the use of Doppler echocardiography for assessing left ventricular diastolic function has attracted increased attention. Doppler study have demonstrated that patients with ischemic heart disease have abnormal diastolic filling pattern suggesting impaired relaxation. Methods : This study was designed to correlate Doppler mitral flow velocity patterns and measuared variance with hemodynamic findings in 33 patients: 10 with myocardial infarction(group 1), 10 with angina pectoris(group 2) and 13 with no coronary disease(group 3). Results: 1. E/A ratio (0.87±0.24 m/sec versus 1.09±0.91 m/sec, P<0.05) was lower in group 1 than in group 3. 2. Significant correlation were demonstrated between pulmonary capillary wedge pressure (PCWP) and isovolumic relaxation time(IVRT) (r=-0.58; p<0.001), and E velocity (r=0.61; p<0.005). 3. IVRT was (61±30msec versus 92±35msec, p<0.05) shorter in patients with PCWP>10mmHg than in patients with PCWP≤10mmHg. Conclusion: Doppler mitral flow recordings have partially clinical potentiality in assessing left ventricalar diastolic function in patient with ischmic heart disease.

It was found that all the subjects bended slightly their elbows and shoulder in Back Swing at the moment of release and they increased their moving angle for larger Swing motion. The objective of this study was to evaluate platelet-rich fibrin (PRF)’s effectiveness in repairing articular disc defect in the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) of rabbits. Eight rabbits were divided into four groups of two rabbits each, corresponding to groups A, B, C, and D. Both TMJs of all of the rabbits were used in the experiments: the right joints comprised the experimental groups, and the left ones, the control groups. The disc defect was circular and 2 mm in diameter. In the experimental groups, the PRF was compressed into the defect, whereas the control group defects were left untreated. A, B, C, and D groups were sacrificed at the 1st, 2nd, 4th and 6th weeks, respectively. The defects of each control group exhibited no specific changes. Contrastingly, in each experimental group, there was an increased number of chondroblasts at the margins of the defects, along with accelerated cell differentiation and a columnar cell arrangement observable at the time of cell differentiation. The experimental groups showed inflammatory cell infiltrations and fibrosis by the 1st week, maturation of chondrocytes by the 2nd week, and proliferation by the 4th week, after which the defects began to be filled with chondrocytes, a process that was complete after the 6th week. In the histological evaluation (H-E), the experimental groups showed significant increases of chondroblasts after the 2nd and 4th weeks, as well as regular columns of chondrocyte arrays observable during cell division. After 6 weeks, the defects were filled with chondrocytes.

Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy of primary chemotherapy combined with local therapy in the treatment of retino-blastomas not treatable with a single therapeutic method. Methods: We performed a retrospective chart review of 227 patients diagnosed with retinoblastoma. Sixty-five eyes in 52 patients had tumors not treatable with a single therapeutic method and received primary chemotherapy combined with local therapy as needed. Results: Tumor control and eye salvage was achieved in 34 of the 65 eyes; the probability of ocular survival was 46.56% using the Kaplan-Meier method. Forty-three of the 65 eyes were group D or E tumors, in which tumor control and eye salvage was achieved in 16 eyes. Twenty eyes were treated with chemotherapy only, while 28 eyes received one additional modality of local therapy, and 17 eyes received two modalities of local therapy. Of the eyes treated with chemotherapy only, tumor control was achieved in 5 eyes. Conclusions: Primary chemotherapy combined with local therapy can be effective and safe in the treatment of retino-blastomas otherwise untreatable with other therapeutic methods, such as group D and E retino-blastomas. More vigorous treatment with more local therapeutic methods combined may yield even better results.

<P>Ginsenoside Re, one of the main constituents of Panax ginseng, possesses novel antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. However, the pharmacological mechanism of ginsenoside Re in dopaminergic degeneration remains elusive. We suggested that protein kinase C (PKC) δ mediates methamphetamine (MA)-induced dopaminergic toxicity. Treatment with ginsenoside Re significantly attenuated methamphetamine-induced dopaminergic degeneration in vivo by inhibiting impaired enzymatic antioxidant systems, mitochondrial oxidative stress, mitochondrial translocation of protein kinase Cδ, mitochondrial dysfunction, pro-inflammatory microglial activation, and apoptosis. These protective effects were comparable to those observed with genetic inhibition of PKCδ in PKCδ knockout (-/-) mice and with PKCδ antisense oligonucleotides, and ginsenoside Re did not provide any additional protective effects in the presence of PKCδ inhibition. Our results suggest that PKCδ is a critical target for ginsenoside Re-mediated protective activity in response to dopaminergic degeneration induced by MA.</P>

Aims: Several important changes were made to the 8th edition of American Joint Commission on Cancer (AJCC) tumor staging system for intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC). We assessed the prognostic impact of this new tumor staging system compared to the 7th edition. Methods: A retrospective single-institution study was performed with 626 patients who underwent R0 resection for ICC over 20-year period. Results: Anatomical resection and concurrent bile duct resection were performed in 571 (91.2%) and 62 (9.9%) patients, respectively. Cumulative tumor recurrence and patient survival rates were 40.6% and 73.3% at 1 year; 66.7% and 43.8% at 3 years; 73.6% and 30.4% at 5 years; and 74.4% and 20.3% at 10 years, respectively. Independent prognostic factors for tumor recurrence and patient survival were multiple tumors, CA 19-9 >200 U/mL, tumor size >5 cm, direct invasion to extrahepatic structure, and lymph node metastasis. For TNM stages in the 7th versus the 8th editions, C-index was 0.615 and 0.625 for tumor recurrence and 0.626 and 0.628 for patient survival, respectively. Conclusions: The 8th edition AJCC appears to provide high prognostic contrast for T stage categories, except for T3. However, overall prognostic performance of the 8th edition was not markedly improved over the 7th edition.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Decomposition of SF<SUB>6</SUB> and its by-products by ionizing radiation were investigated. The SF<SUB>6</SUB> concentration was decreased as the ionizing radiation intensity increased. When the initial concentration of SF<SUB>6</SUB> increased, the removal efficiency of SF<SUB>6</SUB> was decreased. As a result, the ionizing radiation intensity and initial concentration were the influencing factor in the treatment process. The deposited particles and aerosol particles on effluent pipeline and HEPA filters were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with the energy dispersion spectrum analysis (EDS), attenuated total reflectance/Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR-ATR) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The amount of aerosol particles in the HEPA filter was influenced by the ionizing radiation intensity. The detected species in the HEPA filter are S-S, SF<SUB>5</SUB>, SOF<SUB>2</SUB>, SF<SUB>4</SUB>, SO<SUB>2</SUB>F<SUB>2</SUB>, S=O and SOF<SUB>4</SUB> by FTIR-ATR. This means that the SF<SUB>x</SUB> compounds formed by ionizing irradiation still existed. When we compared with results of removal characteristics using plasma, the input energy of ionizing radiation process was 3–37 times higher than that of plasma. However, the required energy of ionizing radiation process for 1 g of SF<SUB>6</SUB> removal was 16–160 times lower than the other processes. It is evident that the ionizing radiation process was more efficient process than that of plasma.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> SF<SUB>6</SUB> was successfully decomposed by ionizing radiation. </LI> <LI> The titanium foil was corroded during the ionizing irradiation. </LI> <LI> The aerosol particles lead to severe scaling problem in effluent gas pipeline. </LI> <LI> The amount of aerosol particles was influenced by ionizing radiation intensity. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>
