[OBJECTIVES] The purpose of this study was to investigate the changes in the concentration of blood angiogenic factors and pro-inflammatory cytokines during acute exercise after the administration of branched-chain amino acid (BCAA) and glutamine. [METHODS] All 7 adolescent male athletes performed 2000 m rowing exercise after the completion of each of three different 7-day treatments; non-treatment (CO); a total daily dose of BCAA 3.15 g (1.05g×3) (BCAA); or both a total daily dose of BCAA 3.15 g (1.05 g × 3) and glutamine 6 g (2 g × 3) (BC+GLU). There was a 30-day rest period between each treatment. After intake of amino acids for 7 days, the participants completed the rowing exercise on day 8, and their blood samples were collected (at resting state, Rest; immediately after exercise, Ex0; and 30 min after the exercise, Ex30) and were analyzed using ELISA. [RESULTS] The concentration of Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) increased in the BCAA and BC+GLU treatment groups compared to that at Rest in the CO group (p<0.05). Interleukin-6 (IL-6) increased at Ex0 compared to that at Rest in the CO and BCAA treatment groups (p<0.05), and significantly decreased at Ex30 compared to that at Ex0 in the BCAA treatment group (p<0.05). However, significant differences were not observed in BC+GLU at Ex0 and Ex30 compared to at Rest. IL-8 also significantly increased at Ex0 compared to at Rest, and significantly decreased at Ex30 compared to at Ex0 in CO (p<0.05). However, the blood IL-8 level in BCAA and BC+GLU were not altered by acute exercise. [CONCLUSIONS] This study suggested that the administrations of BCAA and/or glutamine have enough to induce increase of VEGF concentration and inhibited the increase of pro-inflammatory cytokines after acute exercise in adolescence athletes.

Background/Aims: We compared the cirrhosis-prediction accuracy of an ultrasonographic scoring system (USSS) combining six representative sonographic indices with that of liver stiffness measurement (LSM) by transient elastography, and prospectively investigated the correlation between the USSS score and LSM in predicting cirrhosis. Methods: Two hundred and thirty patients with chronic liver diseases (187 men, 43 women; age, 50.4±9.5 y, mean±SD) were enrolled in this prospective study. The USSS produces a combined score for nodularity of the liver surface and edge, parenchyma echogenicity, presence of right-lobe atrophy, spleen size, splenic vein diameter, and abnormality of the hepatic vein waveform. The correlations of the USSS score and LSM with that of a pathological liver biopsy (METAVIR scoring system: F0.F4) were evaluated. Results: The mean USSS score and LSM were 7.2 and 38.0 kPa, respectively, in patients with histologically overt cirrhosis (F4, P=0.017) and 4.3 and 22.1 kPa in patients with fibrotic change without overt cirrhosis (F0.F3) (P=0.025). The areas under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves of the USSS score and LSM for F4 patients were 0.849 and 0.729, respectively. On the basis of ROC curves, criteria of USSS ≥6: LSM ≥17.4 had a sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, and accuracy of 89.2%:77.6%, 69.4%:61.4%, 86.5%:83.7%, 74.6%:51.9% and 0.83:0.73, respectively, in predicting F4. Conclusions: The results indicate that this USSS has comparable effi cacy to LSM in the diagnosis of cirrhosis.

In addition to increasing atmospheric COz, ecosystems experience various levels of COz. For example, levels of COz must be heterogeneous in soil matrices as expected from spatial variation of denitrification rates (Parkin 1987). The patchy distribution of particulate organic matter may lead to highly variable levels of COz through microbial consumption of Oz in soil air, when isolation of air pocket due to poor aeration in soil pores impedes diffusive transport of gases. The isolation may occur at micropores inside soil aggregates and at macropores between aggregates. In particular, many confined air pockets may be distributed in poorly drained soils and even in general soils during and just after a period of rainfall. Two sandy loam soils were taken from in the south- and north-facing slopes. respectively, located at a local area of forest floors in Mt. Jumbong. After the soils were incubated for 6 weeks under five different environments of COa (final levels ranged from 0.00 to 1.95), available and microbial pools and mineralization of C. N, and P were determined. Overall. COz enrichment lowered pool of NHa-N and enlarged that of N03 -N in the soils, indicating that it stimulated nitrification, enlarged the ratio of microbial C/N, inhibited mineralization of organic C, and stimulated mineralization of N. Effect of COz enrichment on mineralization of organic C has not been identified
GO-14 : Paratubal Serous Bordeline Tumor: a Case Report

Paratubal serous borderline tumors are identified mild epithelial atypia and proliferation without stromal invasion. Fallopian tubal or paratubal borderline tumors are extremely rare. Therefore, the clinic and pathologic characteristics and treatments of these tumors are unclear. A 43 year-old married female with obstetric history of 3-0-2-3 (T-P-A-L) complained of pain in lower abdomen. Abdominal CT and MRI revealed corpus luteum in ovary. And HPV 18 test which is in high risk group was positive. After left pelviscopic paratubal cystectomy, pathologic result revealed the left salpinx as serous borderline tumor. Following up with paratubal serous borderline tumors are important because it is essential to decide the treatment and predict the prognosis of this tumor. The evaluation of the structure of cyst by ultrasonography and the performance of intraoperative frozen section analysis are important. Since most of these tumors are unilateral and confined to the fallopian tube or paratubal cyst and most patients are young, fertility-sparing surgery with comprehensive surgical staging procedures is acceptable, and adjuvant chemotherapy is likely unnecessary. Acceptable fertility-sparing procedures for young patients who desire to maintain childbearing include salpingectomy for fallopian tubal serous borderline tumors and paratubal cystectomy for paratubal serous borderline tumors.
