      • Adaptive Control of a Class of Unknown Switched Linear Systems with Dwell time

        In this paper, we discuss the model reference adaptive control problem of switched linear systems with unknown switching signals and unknown parameters. We discuss state feedback and output feedback adaptive control for the switched systems. Variable structure based adaptive controllers are applied to the switched systems and error convergence and signal boundedness are shown for a class of switching signals. A sufficient condition for stability and error convergence of the output feedback switched system with unknown parameters is derived in terms of dwell time. Simulation results are provided to show the effect of switched systems with adaptive control.

        This paper presents our new intelligent interactive robot, which is constructed to eagerly provide multi-functional services in an office environment. In order to endow a full interactive capability of our robots for realizing so-called human-robot interaction (HRI), we propose sensor fusion based human detection and tracking system and human pose estimation to deal with a number of situations which may take place in the office environment. Not only by these perceptions, human interact with the robot also by some natural way, such as touching the interface screen and talking with the robot through microphone. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed work is tested and validated by some of experiments.

        Temperature control scheme using hot-gas bypass for a machine tool oil cooler

        Accurate temperature control that addresses heat generation is crucial given the development of high-accuracy high-speed machining process. Heat generation leads to a thermal error of machine tools. Therefore, developing high-accuracy machining without appropriate temperature control scheme is challenging. Machine tool coolers for forced convection cooling can effectively control heat generation. However, temperature control accuracy cannot be achieved because the temperature control scheme for machine tool oil cooler encounters nonlinear and time-varying problems with time delay characteristic. This study presents a novel temperature control scheme, namely, Proportional–integral–derivative (PID) control logic based on Smith predictive method. MATLAB simulation software was utilized to determine the specifications of outlet temperature control using hot-gas bypass scheme of high-precision oil cooler with refrigerant R-32. Simulation results revealed that the proposed control scheme present better temperature control accuracy than the traditional PID control. The proposed control scheme can also effectively solve the abovementioned problems through on-site experimental results. The steadystate error of the oil outlet temperature of the high-precision-type machine tool oil cooler can be controlled within 0.1 °C by using the proposed control hot-gas bypass scheme.

        Case Reports : Scaly Ear Rash as the Herald of a Young Girl with Juvenile Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

        Juvenile systemic lupus erythematosus (JSLE) is an autoimmune- mediated multiorgan disease. The cutaneous manifestation is one of the most common initial presentations in JSLE. A typical lesion is a facial malar rash, but a patient may sometimes present with nonclassical lesions. Herein, we report two cases of JSLE with similar persistent scaly ear rashes as the heralding cutaneous symptom preceding systemic symptoms. Identifying this atypical and underestimated cutaneous rash in juvenile patients might help the clinician make the correct diagnosis and provide earlier intervention, which may help prevent disease progression.         An experiment investigation of temperature control performance for machine tool oil coolers with hot-gas bypass temperature control scheme and inverter temperature control scheme

        Following the machine tool with demands of high-speed, high-precision machining and multi-axis, the heat generation of machine tool will lead to thermo growth of spindle, thermal error, etc. Therefore, the machine tool oil cooler has been frequently adopted for thermal management of heat generation for machine tool. However, it will be quite challenging to develop high-precision machining without suitable temperature control scheme. And, the machine tool oil cooler with on-off control is difficult to control the oil temperature accurately. Therefore, in this paper, the machine tool oil cooler with hot-gas bypass temperature control scheme and inverter temperature control scheme based on the PID control logic have been proposed to solve the oil temperature control problem for machine tool oil cooler. Furthermore, the temperature control performance (i.e. thermo growth of spindle, oil temperature control accuracy, and EER) of hot-gas bypass temperature control scheme and inverter temperature control scheme has been compared by means of experiment. The experimental results shows that the inlet oil temperature control accuracy can be maintained ±0.2 °C during spindle operation by using the hot-gas bypass temperature control scheme (HGB cooler) and inverter temperature control scheme (INV cooler). Furthermore, the thermo growth of spindle of HGB cooler is about 14 % smaller than the INV cooler because of hot-gas bypass temperature control scheme with thermal compensation function. However, the total power consumption of HGB cooler is about 0.18 kW higher than the INV cooler. Hence, the energy efficiency ratio (EER) of INV cooler reveals about 10.9 % higher than the HGB cooler at steady state. Furthermore, when oil flow rate declined to about half, the temperature difference between initial and final steady state temperature of the spindle is increased around 94.3 %, and the thermo growth of spindle is increased 58.7 %.

        Treatment outcomes of patients with stage II pure endometrioid-type endometrial cancer: a Taiwanese Gynecologic Oncology Group (TGOG-2006) retrospective cohort study

        Objective: Choice of hysterectomy and adjuvant treatment for International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) 2009 stage II endometrioid endometrial cancer (EEC) is still controversial. Aims of this study were to evaluate survival benefits and adverse effects of different hysterectomies with or without adjuvant radiotherapy (RT), and to identify prognostic factors. Methods: The patients at 14 member hospitals of the Taiwanese Gynecologic Oncology Group from 1992 to 2013 were retrospectively investigated. Patients were divided into simple hysterectomy (SH) alone, SH with RT, radical hysterectomy (RH) alone, and RH with RT groups. Endpoints were recurrence-free survival (RFS), overall survival (OS), disease-specific survival (DSS), adverse effects and prognostic factors for survival. Results: Total of 246 patients were enrolled. The 5-year RFS, OS, DSS and recurrence rates for the entire cohort were 89.5%, 94.3%, 96.2% and 10.2%, respectively. Patients receiving RH had more adverse effects including blood loss (p<0.001), recurrent urinary tract infections (p=0.013), and leg lymphedema (p=0.038). Age over 50-year (HR=9.2; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.2–70.9) and grade 3 histology (HR=7.28; 95% CI, 1.45–36.6) were independent predictors of OS. Grade 3 histology was an independent predictor of RFS (HR=5.13; 95% CI, 1.38–19.1) and DSS (HR=5.97; 95% CI, 1.06–58.7). Patients receiving adjuvant RT had lower locoregional recurrence (p=0.046), but no impact on survival. Conclusion: Different treatment modalities yield similar survival outcomes. Patients receiving SH with RT had lower locoregional recurrent with acceptable morbidity. Age and tumor grading remained significant predictors for survival among patients with FIGO 2009 stage II EEC.

      • A Cross-Cultural Comparative Study of Cultural Characteristics and Informa tion Search Behaviours of Business Travellers

        This study examines the information searching of business travelers and their behavior based on the cultural differences. Despite growing academic interest in business travel i n recent years, there has been little investigation of the information search behaviors of business travelers in a cross-culture context. The above themes are rational assumed that information search behaviour are necessary to understand. To address the identified gap s in the literature, the proposed relationships are examined and presented through using chi-square method with a survey sample. The research sample included Japanese, English and Chinese business travellers. A self-administrated questionnaire was distributed to 211 business travelers attending international conventions in Taipei. The research findings reveal that information preferences of business travelers are significantly differed from the three recognized groups in the case of Taiwan. Some significant differences in information search behaviors were recognized amongst the three recognized respondent groups. Marketing implications were also proposed and presented.

        An investigation on dicing 28-nm node Cu/low-k wafer with a Picosecond Pulse Laser

        For a nanoscale Cu/low-k wafer, inter-layer dielectric (ILD) and metal layers peelings, cracks, chipping, and delamination are the most common dicing defects by traditional diamond blade saw process. Sidewall void in sawing street is one of the key factors to bring about cracks and chipping. The aim of this research is to evaluate laser grooving & mechanical sawing parameters to eliminate sidewall void and avoid top-side chipping as well as peeling. An ultra-fast pico-second (ps) laser is applied to groove/singulate the 28-nanometer node wafer with Cu/low-k dielectric. A series of comprehensive parametric study on the recipes of input laser power, repetition rate, grooving speed, defocus amount and street index has been conducted to improve the quality of dicing process. The effects of the laser kerf geometry, grooving edge quality and defects are evaluated by using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and focused ion beam (FIB). Experimental results have shown that the laser grooving technique is capable to improve the quality and yield issues on Cu/low-k wafer dicing process.
