<P>In this work, ZnS microspheres consisting of nanoblocks were synthesized by a simple, template-free approach employing a hydrothermal reaction at different temperatures, using Zn(CH3COO)2 and Na2S2O3 · 5H2O as starting materials in the aqueous solution. The synthesized samples were characterized using field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET). The photocatalysts were evaluated using photodecomposition of methylene blue under UV-C light. The photocatalytic degradation rate followed a pseudo-first-order equation. The kinetic constant (k1) of the ZnS microspheres was 5.43 x 10(-2) min(-1).</P>
The characterization of glass-ceramics made from waste glass and fly ash

Glass-ceramics with well-crystallized whisker-type crystals were prepared by milling and heat treatment using fly ash from a thermal power plant and waste glass cullet. Various heat treatment temperatures [850, 900, 950 and 1000 oC] were used to obtain a glass-ceramics that have the optimum crystal phase and mechanical properties. The crystallization of a whisker-type phase in the matrix was achieved in the heat treatment temperature range of 950-1000 oC, and the whisker-type main crystal phase in the glass-ceramics was wollastonite [CaSiO3] The heat treatment temperature range [950-1000 oC] also brought about much better mechanical properties. The aim of present study was to investigate the effect of exercise and/or L-arginine on Insulin growth factor-Ⅰ(IGF-Ⅰ) and lipid profile in high fat induced obese rat. For our experiment, male Sprague-Dawley rats (n = 32) at age 6 weeks were divided into four groups as follows: (1) High fat diet (HF), (2) HF with Exercise (EX), (3) HF with Arginine injection (ARG), (4) HF with EX + ARG (EX + ARG). The groups performed the training program for 12 weeks. After the program, blood was collected from left ventricle for analysis. As a result of analysis, IGF-Ⅰ was significantly increased in both EX + ARG and ARG (p < .05) while IGF binding protein (IGFBP) was not significantly different among the groups. Total cholesterol (TC) and LDL-C were significantly decreased in EX + ARG and EX (p < .05). In conclusion, this study suggests that combination of regular aerobic exercise and L-arginine consumption might prevent cardiovascular disease by increasing IGF-Ⅰ and decreasing TC and LDL-C.

The osteochondroma is a cartilage-capped exostosis resulting from an error in the regulation of normal chondrocyte proliferation and maturation that leads to a normal bone growth. Although exostoses are benign lesions, they are often associated with characteristic progressive skeletal deformities and may cause clinical symptoms. Surgery can prevent progression and provide correction for certain deformities. We experienced a rare case of solitary osteochondroma in a 21-year-old male which caused the valgus deformity of the ankle.
Analysis on the Findings of Serum Biochemical Test in Inhabitants Infected with Clonorchis sinensis

The findings of serum biochemical tests in the inhabitants residing in some riverside areas of Kyongsangnam-do were analized to know the correlation wish the Clonorchis sinensis infection. A total of 2,722 fecal samples of inhabitants was examined by Kato's cellophane thick smear and formalin-ether sedimentation methods, and their serums were analized biochemically. Three hundred and thirty-three inhabitants (12.2%) were positive with C. sinensis eggs (egg-positive group), and remaining 2,389 were negative (egg-negative group). In the egg-positive group, the positive rate of aspartate aminotransferase (AST) was 6.9% (male: 10.3%; female: 3.2%), that of alanine aminotransferase (ALT) was 6.3% (male: 9.1%; female: 3.2%), of γ-glutamyl transpeptidase (γ -GTP) was 9.0% (male: 13.1%; female: 4.4%), and that of α-fetoprotein (AFP) was 3.0% (male: 2.9%; female: 3.2%). In the egg-negative group, the positive rate of AST was 5.2% (male: 8.9%; female: 3.2%), that of ALT was 5.1% (male: 8.6%; female: 3.2%), of γ -GTP was 7.5% (male: 13.0%; female: 4.5%), and that of AFP was 0.3% (male: 0.5%; female: 0.1%). In the egg-positive group, 127 cases (38.1%) were light infection, 108 (32.4%) were moderate infection, 64 (19.2%) were heavy infection, and 34 (10.2%) were very heavy infection. The positive rates of all tests were high according to the intensity of infection. From the above results, It was confirmed that prevalence of clonorchiasis is still high in some riverside areas of Kyongsangnam-do, and findings of serum biochemical tests are not different between the egg-positive group and egg-negative group. However, there were some difference in the positive rates of serum AST, ALT, γ -GTP and AFP by the age, sex and the intensity of infection.

To study repellent of Drosophila melanogaster, we extracted plant materials from wild sesame leaf, cinnamon, fig leaf, ginko leaf, quince with 100% ethanol or water as an extract solvent and described an insecticidal effect on the plant extract respectively. In the result, the 100% ethanol extract had higher insecticidal effect than the water extract. The ethanol extract of wild sesame leaf showed 58% extinction effect on Drosophila and the extracts of cinnamon and fig leaves had the effect of repellent. Each ethanil extract and the extract of cinnamon water were mixed with the ethanol extract of wild sesame leaf and a secondary test on the repellent effect has been conducted. In case of cinnamon extract mixed with wild sesame leaf, it showed no larva development and low Drosophila influx and also confirmed the same effect in the ethanol extract of fig leaf. The ethanol extract of wild sesame leaf has aromatic compound and high level of flavonoid concentration that affect like lure materials and accelerate a repellent effect of Drosophila. The cinnamon extract has high concentration of phenol compound that reasons material on repellent effect. However, the effect of fig leaf can not describe because it is low concentration of phenol compound and flavonoid compared with wild sesame leaf and cinnamon. Therefore, in case of mixed plant extracts with the ethanol extract of wild sesame leaves it can make repellent product to induce larva inhibition and insecticidal effect.

실크 피브로인은 좋은 기계적인 특성과 세포 호환성 때문에 인공 골 재료로써 널리 사용되어왔다. 최근 실크 피브로인이 가진 취약성 때문에 실크 피브로인은 다양한 재료들이 첨가되어 실크 복합 지지체로서 연구되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 실크 피브로인의 단점을 보완하기 위해 하이드록시아파타이트/실크 복합 지지체를 제작하였다. 하이드록시아파타이트/실크 복합 지지체는 기계적/생물학적 특징을 확인하기 위해 SEM, EDS, 물 침투성, 다공도, 압축강도, MTT assay, ALP 활성도, mRNA 발현을 통해 연구되었다. 실험 결과, 하이드록시아파타이트/실크 복합 지지체는 골 조직 공학을 위한 지지체로서 뛰어난 특성을 가지며, 토끼 골수 유래 줄기세포로부터 골 형성을 유도하는 잠재성을 확인하였다. Silk fibroin (SF) has been widely used as an artificial bone material due to the good mechanical properties and cell compatibility. Recently it have been studied as hybrid silk scaffold with the addition of various materials because it has vulnerability. In this study, we manufactured hydroxyapatite (HAp)/SF hybrid scaffolds to complement the disadvantage of the SF. HAp/SF hybrid scaffolds were measured to study the mechanical/biological characteristics through SEM, EDS, measurement of water uptake, porosity, compressive strength, MTT assay, ALP activity and mRNAs expression. These results showed HAp/SF hybrid scaffold has excellent properties as a scaffold for bone tissue engineering and potential for inducing osteogenesis from rabbit bone marrow-mesenchymal stem cells (rBMSCs).

In the egg-positive group, 127 cases (38.1%) were light infection, 108 (32.4%) were moderate infection, 64 (19.2%) were heavy infection, and 34 (10.2%) were very heavy infection. The positive rates of all tests were high according to the intensity of infection. From the above results, It was confirmed that prevalence of clonorchiasis is still high in some riverside areas of Kyongsangnam-do, and findings of serum biochemical tests are not different between the egg-positive group and egg-negative group. However, there were some difference in the positive rates of serum AST, ALT, γ-GTP and AFP by the age, sex and the intensity of infection.
