Human embryonic stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes (hESC-CMs) have been reported to exhibit immature embryonic or fetal cardiomyocyte-like phenotypes. To enhance the maturation of hESC-CMs, we identified a natural steroidal alkaloid, tomatidine, as a new substance that stimulates the maturation of hESC-CMs. Treatment of human embryonic stem cells with tomatidine during cardiomyocyte differentiation stimulated the expression of several cardiomyocyte-specific markers and increased the density of T-tubules. Furthermore, tomatidine treatment augmented the number and size of mitochondria and enhanced the formation of mitochondrial lamellar cristae. Tomatidine treatment stimulated mitochondrial functions, including mitochondrial membrane potential, oxidative phosphorylation, and ATP production, in hESC-CMs. Tomatidine-treated hESC-CMs were more sensitive to doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity than the control cells. In conclusion, the present study suggests that tomatidine promotes the differentiation of stem cells to adult cardiomyocytes by accelerating mitochondrial biogenesis and maturation and that tomatidine-treated mature hESC-CMs can be used for cardiotoxicity screening and cardiac disease modeling.

본 연구에서는 장시간 근무가 직장인의 건강에 미치는 영향을 살펴보기 위해 부정적 정서를 우울, 분노, 불안으로 세분화하여 장시간 근무와 폭식의 관계에서 각 부정적 정서의 매개역할을 살펴보았다. 연구를 위해 직장인 204명을 대상으로 근무시간, 우울, 분노, 불안, 폭식행동을 평가하는 설문을 실시하였다. 그 결과, 대다수의 직장인이 한 달에 하루 이상 10시간 이상의 장시간 근무를 하였다. 또한 본 연구에서 살펴본 모든 부정적 정서가 초과근무와 폭식의 관계를 부분매개하였다. 이러한 결과는 장시간의 근무가 부정적 정서를 유발하여 폭식행동을 하게 함을 시사한다. The current study investigates the mediating effect of negative emotions (depression, anxiety, and anger) in the relationship between long working hours and binge eating behavior in order to examine the effect of long working hours on individual health. Two hundred four workers completed questionnaire about working hours, depression, anger, anxiety, and binge eating behavior. Results confirmed the most employees work more than 10 hours at least once a month. Additionally, it was found that depression, anger, and anxiety all partially mediate the relationship between long working hours and binge eating behavior. The results indicate that long working hours influences negative emotions that leads to binge eating behavior.
Impact of cracked gas diffusion layer on performance of polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells

This paper reports the negative effect of the cracked gas diffusion layer (GDL) on the performance ofpolymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) under varyingflow channel width. The polarizationcharacteristics and the corresponding electrochemical impedance spectra of the PEMFCs with pristineGDLs and cracked GDLs were computed. The results showed that for PEMFCs with 1.0 mmflow channels,the power density rates of reduction between the PEMFCs with pristine GDLs and those with crackedGDLs were 2.8% under the condition of oxygen and 6.6% under the condition of air. On the other hand, forthe PEMFCs with 0.5 mmflow channels, these values were 10.3% under the oxygen condition and 14.2%under the air condition. This implies that the thinner theflow channels, the more severely the crackedGDLs influence the PEMFC performance in terms of concentration loss. The EIS data indicated that,compared to the PEMFCs with 1.0 mmflow channels, the cracks on GDLs had more impact on the PEMFCswith 0.5 mmflow channels with regard to activation overvoltage.

With the recent increase in data disclosure, the Comprehensive Knowledge Archive Network (CKAN), which is an open-source data distribution platform, is drawing much attention. CKAN is used together with additional extensions, such as Datastore and Datapusher for data management and Harvest and DCAT for data collection. This study derives the problems of CKAN itself and Harvest Extension. First, CKAN causes two problems of data inconsistency and storage space waste for data deletion. Second, Harvest Extension causes three additional problems, namely source deletion that deletes only sources without deleting data themselves, job stop that cannot delete job during data collection, and service interruption that cannot provide service, even if data exist. Based on these observations, we propose herein an improved CKAN that provides a new deletion function solving data inconsistency and storage space waste problems. In addition, we present an improved Harvest Extension solving three problems of the legacy Harvest Extension. We verify the correctness and the usefulness of the improved CKAN and Harvest Extension functions through actual implementation and extensive experiments.

As Korea"s aging population increases, research on the development of senior-friendly foods is being actively conducted, such as preparing standards for senior-friendly foods. In this study, the hardness of raw ingredients and processed foods was measured by selecting fruits that were consumed frequently by the elderly in Korea. The hardness level of raw ingredients and processed foods was selected for each mastication level according to the standards of the Food Code (KS H 4897). As a result of measuring the hardness according to the third method, 2 types (banana, peach) of the 6 types of raw fruit met the standard for the first stage (tooth intake), and all other raw fruits exceeded 500,000 N/m2 and did not meet the standard. In case of processed food, all products except for 2 types (pear, grape) satisfied the first stage (tooth intake) stadard. Accordingly, the hardness was re-measured according to the first method for raw and processed foods that met the first stage criteria. In case of raw fruits, both types (banana, peach) did not exceed 500,000 N/m2 in hardness, thus satisfying the standard. All six processed foods, including apples, also met the hardness standards.
