We fabricated α-Fe(100)/Nd2Fe14B(001) bilayer films with different thicknesses values of the-Fe layer on MgO(100) substrates by using an ultra-high-vacuum (UHV) magnetron sputteringsystem. The exchange coupling constant at the heterointerfaces of α-Fe(100)/Nd2Fe14B(001) wasevaluated by analyzing the magnetization curves and the ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) spectra. We observed a significant lower shift of the α-Fe resonance field compared to that of the α-Fe singlelayer irrespective of the Fe-layer thickness, which suggests the existence of an internal field owingto a positive exchange coupling between the -Fe(100) and the Nd2Fe14B(001) layers.

Background: Synovial chondromatosis occurs rarely in the shoulder, and its details remain unclear. The purpose of this study was to clarify the clinical results of surgical resection and the histopathological findings of synovial chondromatosis in the shoulder. Methods: Ten shoulders with synovial chondromatosis that had been operatively resected were reviewed retrospectively. Osteochondral lesions were present in the glenohumeral joint in six shoulders and in the subacromial space in four shoulders. Two patients had a history of trauma with glenohumeral dislocation without recurrent instability, and the other seven patients (eight shoulders) did not have any traumatic episodes or past illness involving the ipsilateral shoulder girdle. The occurrences of osteochondral lesions, inferior humeral osteophytes, and acromial spurs were assessed on radiographs before resection, just after resection, and at final follow-up. The Constant scores were compared before resection and at final follow-up with Wilcoxon signed-rank tests. Resected lesions were histopathologically differentiated between primary and secondary synovial chondromatosis. Results: Inferior humeral osteophytes were found in five shoulders with synovial chondromatosis in the glenohumeral joint, and all four shoulders with synovial chondromatosis in the subacromial space had acromial spur formation. Osteochondral lesions appeared to have been successfully removed in all shoulders on postoperative radiographs. At the final follow-up, however, one shoulder with secondary synovial chondromatosis in the subacromial space showed recurrence of osteochondral lesions and acromial spur formation. The mean Constant score improved significantly from 53.0 points before resection to 76.0 points at a mean follow-up of 6.0 years (p = 0.002). On histopathological evaluation, one shoulder was diagnosed as having primary synovial chondromatosis, while nine shoulders had secondary synovial chondromatosis. Conclusions: The present study showed that resection of shoulder osteochondral lesions successfully relieved the clinical symptoms and that primary synovial chondromatosis is less common than secondary synovial chondromatosis in the shoulder. Although most of the present osteochondral lesions were clinically determined to be primary chondromatosis, only one case was histopathologically categorized as primary synovial chondromatosis. These results suggest that histopathological identification is needed to differentiate between primary and secondary synovial chondromatosis.

[Purpose] Exercise is a key factor in preventing obesity and metabolic syndrome. Sumo wrestlers increase their body size from childhood for athletic advantage; however, the risk of metabolic syndrome in junior sumo wrestlers is undetermined. Preventive measures against pediatric obesity should be initiated during childhood to prevent obesity in adulthood, considering its high global incidence. We comparatively evaluated the risk factors for metabolic syndrome in junior sumo wrestlers and children with obesity. [Methods] We enrolled 70 male children (age 9-17 years [sumo group, n = 14] and 9-14 years [other sports and non-exercise groups, n = 28 each]) and evaluated their anthropometric parameters (height, weight, body mass index z-score, obesity rate, waist circumference, waist to height ratio) and hematological parameters (total, low-density, high-density, and non-high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol; triglycerides; plasma glucose, and glycated hemoglobin levels). [Results] The BMI z-score, obesity rate, waist circumference (p < 0.05, along with the non-exercise group), and systolic blood pressure were significantly higher and the high-density cholesterol level was lower in the sumo group than in the other sports group (p < 0.05). The waist to height ratio was significantly higher in the non-exercise group than in the other sports group (p < 0.05). No significant difference was found in other blood lipid, plasma glucose (significantly lower level than the reference range in the sumo group, p < 0.05), and glycated hemoglobin (within the reference range in all groups) levels among the three groups. [Conclusion] Junior sumo wrestlers had a larger body size and higher blood pressure than children with obesity who exercised regularly. This provides direction for future research into targeted preventive interventions against metabolic syndrome for junior sumo wrestlers with large body size.
An Interface based on Switched-Capacitor Sample/Hold circuit of Differential Capacitance Transducers
Satomi Ogawa,Takuya Tanigawa,Daisuke Adachi 대한전자공학회 2008 ITC-CSCC :International Technical Conference on Ci Vol.2008 No.7
For high-accuracy and high-speed signal processing of differential capacitance transducers, an interface circuitry based on a switched-capacitor sample/hold circuit using unity-gain buffer (UGB) is developed. The interface produces the output voltage which is proportional to the ratio of difference-to-sum of two capacitors of a differential transducer using only single reference voltage, Vr. Hspice simulations are described to predict performances of the interface when implemented by 0.35㎛ n-well CMOS process. Experimental results using discrete components are also given to confirm the principles of operation.

<P>We identified the orientation of individual Lu@C82 molecules on alkanethiol self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) by scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) at a molecular resolution. STM images of Lu@C82 on alkanethiol SAMs at 65 K showed a striped structure corresponding to the molecular orbitals of the Lu@C82 molecule, suggesting that thermal rotation of Lu@C82 on alkanethiol SAMs is prevented at 65 K. By comparing these molecular-resolution STM images with Kohn−Sham molecular orbitals of Lu@C82 calculated by density functional theory (DFT), we identified the molecular orientation of Lu@C82. Spatial mapping of the differential conductance on individual Lu@C82 molecules revealed that the local conductivity within a molecule became large around the Lu atom at a negative sample bias voltage. From spatial mapping of the differential conductance measurements, we also evaluated the HOMO−LUMO gap of Lu@C82 to be 0.47 eV. From the results of the spatial mapping of the differential conductance and DFT calculations, the locally high conductivity around the Lu atom was attributed to the HOMO-2 level orbital concentrated on the Lu atom and its six nearest C atoms at 0.055 eV below the HOMO level. We demonstrated changes in the molecular orientation of Lu@C82 by applying a high electric field (about 1 × 107 V/cm) with a large tunneling current (1.5 nA).</P><P><B>Graphic Abstract</B> <IMG SRC='http://pubs.acs.org/appl/literatum/publisher/achs/journals/content/jpccck/2010/jpccck.2010.114.issue-35/jp1023394/production/images/medium/jp-2010-023394_0007.gif'></P>
Interface State and Coercivity in Nd-Fe-B/Dy Films
Jin Umezawa,Yoshiki Sakai,Kunihiro Koike,Daisuke Ogawa,Yoshiyuki Mizuno,Hiroaki Kato,Takamichi Miyazaki,Yasuo Ando 한국물리학회 2013 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.63 No.3
We fabricated a model interface system, which consised of a Nd2Fe14B layer with Dy overlayers,in order to study the relationship between the microstructure near the interface and the coercivity. The coercivity Hc of the 1-µm-thick Nd-Fe-B films with a Dy overlayer was enhanced by thermaldiffusion of Dy atoms from the film’s surface into the Nd-Fe-B layer. The Nd-Fe-B/Dy films annealedat 700℃ showed a significant increase in the Hc of up to about 17 kOe. The maximum increasein the value of the coercivity ΔHc of the annealed films with a Dy overlayer was approximately 13kOe. The XRD measurement suggested the existence of rare-earth oxides (NdO and Dy2O3) in theDy-coated films with high value of the ΔHc.

Objectives: As the population ages worldwide, including in Japan, there is a growing expectation for older adults to remain active participants in society. The act of sharing one’s experiences and knowledge with younger generations through social engagement not only enriches the lives of older individuals, but also holds significant value for our society. In this study, we examined both positive and negative perceptions of older adults and investigated the correlation between these perceptions and generativity among older citizens. Additionally, we evaluated the impact of life satisfaction on these factors. Methods: We conducted a survey of 100 older adults in Japan (mean age, 71.68 years) and utilized multiple regression analyses, using positive and negative perceptions of older adults, life satisfaction, and demographic factors as independent variables. The sub-categories of generativity—namely, generative action, concern, and accomplishment—were used as dependent variables. Results: Participants who held a more positive perception of older adults demonstrated a higher level of generative actions and concerns. Additionally, participants who reported higher levels of life satisfaction also exhibited more generative actions, concerns, and accomplishments. Conversely, those who held a more negative perception of older adults were found to have higher levels of generative actions. Conclusion: Enhancing positive perceptions of older adults among them can boost the sub-categories of generativity. This study, which was conducted from an exploratory perspective, has several limitations, including a potential sampling bias. A more comprehensive examination of the relationship between perceptions of older adults and generativity is anticipated in future research.
