The causes of pyogenic liver abscess has been known as biliary tract disease or intrabadominal infection but the large proportions of the patients has no apparent underlying disorders. Recently colonic mucosal lesions were reported in patients with cryptogenic liver abscess and it has been suggested that colonic mucosal break may play a role in developing liver abscess in otherwise healthy patients. We experienced a patient of severe recurrent liver abscess complicated with endophthalmitis only 3 months after successful treatment of initial cryptogenic liver abscess and a polypoid colon cancer was discovered by chance. It seems prudent to proceed colonoscopic examination in patients with cryptogenic liver abscess especially when it is recurrent.
Effect of Design Instruction on Creativity

Objective: The objective of this study is to find out the effect of design instruction on creative idea generation. Background: Creativity has been generally considered as an inherent cognitive ability. Some studies, however, demonstrated that creativity is not a special gift only for a few persons, but also potentially a learned skill. Therefore, the study of importance is the availability and application of methodological processes based on which people develop their creativity. Method: Four groups of students are provided different instructions to generate creative ideas for a new camera function. Group 1 was provided a problem scenario without any other special instruction. Group 2 and 4 were instructed to conduct a problem analysis before solving the problem scenario. Group 3 and 4 saw the ideas of groups 1&2 before generating their own idea. Overall creativity level of each idea generated was evaluated by six professors of School of Design and Human Engineering at UNIST. Results: Group 3 and 4 showed higher creativity scores than group 1 or 2. Participants with higher interest in camera and design showed higher scores. Conclusion: These results suggest that creativity is a quality of cognition which can be developed. Upcoming studies are expected to find out various methods to increase practical creativity. Application: This research can propose a methodological direction to developing creativity.
Exploring the Roles of Lighting in Human-Product Interaction

Lighting enables humankind to visually perceive everything in the dark since they invented artificial lighting sources such as candle and light bulb. Nowadays lighting is used not only to brighten the space but also to play a more diverse roles in humanproduct interaction. For instance, the LED indicator on a battery charger lets the user recognize whether the batteries are fully charged or not. Although lighting is getting deeply pervasive to our daily lives, few studies on the interaction between human and lighting have been done. Therefore, this study aims to identify the role of lighting in human-product interaction. To figure out what kinds of role lighting plays in human-product interaction, literature study was conducted. Four roles of lighting were identified: Visibility, Information Transfer, Visual Aesthetic Enhancement and Emotion Induction. Based on the four roles, a conceptual framework was made in order to provide a better understanding of the relationship between human and lighting. Further implications to the design practice are discussed as well.

The Application of Lighting Factors in Information Transfer

Objective: The aim of this study is to explore the interaction between human visual perception and lighting factors in information transfer. Background: Visualization through lighting helps effectively deliver information to people. Although lighting can be controlled with various factors, only a few factors have been used to transfer information. Therefore, we wondered how various factors of lighting are related to the visual perception of information. Six factors of lighting were identified based on the literature study: Intensity, Color, Area, Movement, Texture and Distribution. Method: In order to reveal the interaction between the lighting factors and the perception of information, an experiment was designed and 10 participants were recruited. Based on representative three scenarios of an external hard disk storage space usage (in case of being full, half full and empty), the participants were asked to set the most appropriate lighting of each scenario by controlling each factor of lighting according to given scenarios. Results: The results indicated that there was no significant difference in the pattern of setting lighting factors between the participants for each scenario. However, the pattern of setting lighting factors was distinct among scenarios. Conclusion: The conclusion was drawn that lighting factors influence the human perception in information transfer depending on use cases. Application: In information transfer, lighting can be more effectively utilized by understanding the interaction between lighting factors and the visual perception of human.

Non-conductive paste (NCP) formulation for chip-on-board (CoB) flip chip packages should contain a large amount of inorganic filler to achieve the low CTE (coefficient of thermal expansion) of cured joint and resultantly the reliability of overall packages. As the interconnection pitch decreases, the filler particle size should also be decreased because the particles trapped between bump and pad at the joint may deteriorate the joint reliability. In this study, effects of submicron-sized silica filler additions on the uncured and cured properties of NCP formulation and the void formation behavior at the flip chip joint were investigated. Two kinds of spherical fused silica fillers having particle size of 1 ㎛ and 100 nm were used. The abrupt increase point of viscosity of NCP formulation was shorten in the finer silica addition due to the increased probability of agglomeration and collision of particles. It resulted in the maximum filler content of 60 wt% and 30 wt% for 1 um and 100 nm silica, respectively. The addition of 100 nm silica showed lower effect on the CTE reduction and increased void formation at the flip chip joint compared to 1 ㎛ silica. It was considered that the defects at the interface between epoxy resin and silica filler originated from the surface contaminants, such as moisture and adsorbed gases, of silica particles was mainly responsible for the bad effects of the finer silica particles on CTE reduction and void formation behaviors.

Goods for modern times are rapidly provided because of the mechanization and industrialization, so the number of people who find the goods of the past is gradually increased. Retro-style which is shown throughout the society and culture, not appeared independently, is redirected for modern times and provided. This thesis is significant to examine fashion style and hair style of retro-style and be helpful to develop the industry of retro-phenomenon by selecting 6 female singers who reinterpreted the retro-style and provided it to people. Preferred style of the past has characteristics in each period and especially, denim which is the most representative item of retro-fashion was reinterpreted for modern times and is loved by many people. And, it is the item including both the past and the present with retro-items such as miniskirt, jumpsuit and power shoulder, etc. Retro-style gives comfort and friendliness to the older generation and newness and uniqueness to new generation. And, it is loved by various ages regardless of age. Through the redirection of various retro-styles, fashion and hair style should be more grown and redirected because of the appearance of retro in the whole industries.
