This chapter deals with various methodological issues in studying Menicus and other early Chinese thinkers. Kwong-loi Shun, first, examines carefully the relationship between the text, the Mencius and the thinker, Mencius, the problem of reference inherent in the term, Confucianism, and the meaning of “ethical.” Next, he discusses bigger issues concerning methodology. This first one is whether or not it is proper to treat early Confucianism as an object of intellectual inquiry. The second is how to avoid imposing on early Chinese certain presuppositions and frameworks alien to it. Kwong-loi Shun, while defending his own approach based on the analysis of content of thought, acknowledges the relevance of historical research and suggests the complementary relationship between them. And he attempts to resolve the second problem by the scrupulous cross-examination of early texts as well as by avoiding modern, western terms that carries too much alien connotations. Lastly Shun tells how to use commentaries and translations in analyzing the text. By comparing and adjudicating between the major alternative interpretations, he says he seek to provide some reason for accepting a proposed interpretation, rather than merely presenting it as his own preferred interpretation. In so doing, he hopes to put forward considerations in its favor to which those who disagree can respond, thereby providing the starting point of a dialogue to resolve such disagreements.

In this paper, teaching in a “switching converter (SC) design” course using problem-based learning (PBL) with dynamicbehavior-model simulation, given at Lunghwa University of Science and Technology (LHU), Taiwan, is proposed. The devised methodology encourages students to design and implement the SCs and regulate the controller’s parameters in frequency domain by using ‘sisitool’ (‘bode’) in the MATLAB toolbox. The environment of PBL with converter characterization modeling and simulation reforms the learning outcome greatly and speeds up the teaching-learning process. To qualify and evaluate the learning achievements, a hands-on project cooperated with the continuous assessment approach is performed to modulate the teaching pace and learning direction in good time. Results from surveys conducted in the end of the course provided valuable opinions and suggestions for assessing and improving the learning effect of the proposed course successively. Positive feedbacks from the examinations, homework, questionnaires, and the answers to the lecturer’s quizzes during class indicated that the presented pedagogy supplied more helpfulness to students in comparisons with conventional teaching paradigm, their learning accomplishments were better than expected as well.
Human life engineering in daily life : Recent trends of mobile support based on human factors

Ergonomics (or Human Factors) are applied to make human life convenience and comfort according to precise observation and understanding of human characteristics and functions. In these fields of studies, basic and key technologies have been human centered design towards the improvement of quality of daily life. Living in our home, working in the office and moving in society are all in our daily affairs and life itself. In these circumstances, mobile support for human is one of the great issues in human centered design. To make better designs for driver support, first of all, a precise measurement of behaviors and understanding of the phenomena are also necessary to apply and fit with personal behaviors. In this paper the recent technical trends of driving behavioral analysis are reviewed for driving support systems and, above all, the examples of advanced behavioral analysis are shown for predicting the application for future active safety as well as suggesting the research topics for future development of driving support.
Cloud computing with single server threshold and double congestion thresholds

In this work, we study how to minimize the average system delay in a cloud computing center with heterogeneous servers, where each server may have a different average service rate. We consider M∕Mi∕C∕K with a single server threshold and double congestion thresholds. The analytical models and performance measures are derived for the systems considered. The effect of the average arrival rate on performance measures is studied. It is shown that M∕Mi∕C∕K with a single server threshold and double congestion thresholds outperforms M∕Mi∕C∕K in terms of the average system delay. Finally, a computer simulation is written to verify the accuracy of the analytical results.
Research on Frog Pattern in Li Brocade

Frog or toad is an animal adoration of ancient ancestors in ethnic minorities in South China, in Li tribe tradition, frog is not only a symbol of avoiding evil and the expression of maternal love, but also the decoration of missing the ancestors. This article has discussed the origin of frog pattern, summarized the frog pattern`s forms in Li brocade. At last also discussed the common frog pattern in Li tribe.
MicroRNA-129-5p inhibits 3T3-L1 preadipocyte proliferation by targeting G3BP1

MicroRNAs have been regarded to play a crucial role in the proliferation of different cell types including preadipocytes. In our study, we observed that miR-129-5p was down-regulated during 3T3-L1 preadipocyte proliferation, while the expression of G3BP1 showed a contrary tendency. 5- Ethynyl-2′-deoxyuridine (EdU) incorporation assay and flow cytometry showed that overexpression of miR-129-5p could bring about a reduction in S-phase cells and G2-phase arrest. Additional study indicated that miR-129-5p impaired cell cycle-related genes in 3T3-L1 preadipocytes. Importantly, it showed that miR-129-5p directly targeted the 3′UTR of G3BP1 and the expression of G3BP1 was inhibited by miR-129-5p mimic. Moreover, miR-129-5p mimic activated the p38 signaling pathway through up-regulating p38 and the phosphorylation level of p38. In a word, results in our study revealed that miR-129-5p suppressed preadipocyte proliferation via targeting G3BP1 and activating the p38 signaling pathway.
Chemoprevention of Colitis-Associated Dysplasia or Cancer in Inflammatory Bowel Disease

The association between inflammatory bowel disease and colorectal cancer is well known. Although the overall incidence of inflammatory bowel disease has declined recently, patients with this disease still have a 1.7-fold increased risk of colorectal cancer. The risk factors for developing colorectal cancer include extensive colitis, young age at diagnosis, disease duration, primary sclerosing cholangitis, chronic colonic mucosal inflammation, dysplasia lesion, and post-inflammatory polyps. In patients with inflammatory bowel disease, control of chronic inflammation and surveillance colonoscopies are important for the prevention of colorectal cancer. The 2017 guidelines from the European Crohn’s and Colitis Organisation suggest that colonoscopies to screen for colorectal cancer should be performed when inflammatory bowel disease symptoms have lasted for 8 years. Current evidence supports the use of chemoprevention therapy with mesalamine to reduce the risk of colorectal cancer in patients with ulcerative colitis. Other compounds, including thiopurine, folic acid, statin, and tumor necrosis factor-α inhibitor, are controversial. Large surveillance cohort studies with longer follow-up duration are needed to evaluate the impact of drugs on colorectal cancer risks. (Gut Liver 2022;16:840-848)
