        The prediction of the tooth size in the mixed dentition for Korean

        이번 연구의 목적은 혼합치열기 아동에서 미맹출된 견치와 소구치의 크기를 예측하는데 있어서 한국인에 맞는 방정식을 만들기 위함이다. 미맹출 치아의 크기를 예측하는 것은 혼합치열기 교정 진단과 치료계획 수립에 있어서 매우 중요하다. 미맹출된 견치와 소구치 크기를 예측하는 방법은 몇가지가 있지만 그중에서도 가장 흔하게 쓰이는 것이 모이어의 예측표와 다나카와 존스턴의 방정식이 있다. 하지만 그것들은 백인을 위해서 제작된 것이고 치아 크기는 인종에 따라서 다르다고 알려져 있다. 이번 연구에서는 치아크기를 측정하여 하악 영구 절치의 크기 합과 견치 및 소구치의 크기 합 사이의 상관관계를 구하고 회귀방정식을 이용해서 한국인에 맞는 예측표를 만들었다. 연세대학교 치과대학에 재학중인 178명의 한국 학생(남 108명, 여 70명, 평균연령 21.63)을 대상으로 실험하였다. 영구치의 근원심 폭경을 석고모형상에서 calipers를 이용해서 측정하였다. 성별간의 치아 크기는 차이가 있었다(p<0.05). Correlation coefficient는 0.57에서 0.64의 범위였고, standard errors of the estimates 는 여성에서 0.6으로써 남성보다 우수하였다. r^(2)값은 0.27에서 0.41의 범위를 나타내었다. Estimating the size of unerupted teeth is an essential aspect of orthodontic diagnosis and treatment planning in the mixed dentition. Several methods were introduced and used for the prediction. The most common methods among these would be Moyers probability chart and Tanaka and Johnston equations. These are currently used widely, but they were developed for Caucasians. Because there are clear racial differences in teeth size, the objectives of this study were to produce correlation coefficients between the combined mesiodistal widths of the permanent mandibular incisors and those of the canines and premolars for each quadrant, and prediction tables with regression equations, specifically for Korean. 178 young adults (70 women, 108 men, mean age 21.63 years) were selected from the College of Dentistry, Yonsei University, Seoul, Korea. The mesiodistal crown diameters of the permanent teeth were measured with calipers. Significant sexual dimorphism was found in tooth sizes. The correlation coefficients between the total mesiodistal width of the mandibular permanent incisors and those of the maxillary and mandibular canines and premolars were found to be between 0.52 and 0.64. The standard error of the estimatation was better (0.60) for women and the r^(2) values ranged from 0.27 to 0.41 for both sexes, Prediction tables were prepared for Korean. This study showed larger canine and premolar diameters than Tanaka and Johnston's and Moyers' studies which might be due to the racial differences. Further investigations with a larger sample size will be needed for more representative data on the Korean population.

No effective antiviral therapy is proven yet, but clinical use of ribavirin (RBV) has been tried. We investigated the antiviral effect of RBV against SFTSV in vitro. Methods: To test for cytotoxicity of RBV, Vero cells were treated with different concentrations of RBV (3.90 to 500 μg/mL, two-fold dilution) and analyzed by cell viability MTS assay 48h post-infection. To determine antiviral activity of RBV against SFTSV, Vero cells were infected with SFTSV strain Gangwon/Korea/2012 at 100 TCID50 (50% tissue culture infective dose) per well in a 96-well plate, and RBV was added at the concentrations showing no or minimal cytotoxicity. Viral RNAs were extracted from the culture supernatants and quantifi ed using one-step real-time reverse transcription- PCR to amplify the partial large segment of SFTSV. Statistical analysis was done by one-way ANOVA with Tukey`s post hoc test. Results: Cytotoxicity due to RBV was not observed at RBV concentration =31.3 μg/ mL. Viral RNAs at 24h post-RBV treatment were reduced with increasing RBV concentrations (1-32 μg/mL), compared with those of mock-treated cells (P <0.01, Figure). Half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) of RBV was 3.69 μg/mL at 24h post-RBV treatment. Conclusions: Our study shows that RBV has antiviral effect against SFTSV in a dose-dependent manner. Further studies are required to evaluate the effi cacy of RBV in SFTS.

        하악 제3대구치와 하악관과의 위치관계에 대한 파노라마 방사선사진과 cone beam형 전산화단층영상의 비교

        Purpose : To assess the diagnostic accuracy and value in an imaging technique field through the comparison of cone beam computed tomography and conventional panoramic radiography in assessing the topographic relationship between the mandibular canal and impacted third molars. Materials and Methods : Participants consisted of 100 patients offered the images through cone beam computed tomography and panoramic radiography. PSR-9000 Dental CT system (Asahi Roentgen Ind. Co., Ltd, Japan) was used as the unit of cone beam computed tomography. CE-II (Asahi Roentgen Ind. Co., Ltd, Japan) and Pro Max (Planmeca Oy, Finland) were used as the unit of panoramic radiography. The images obtained through panoramic radiography were classified into 3 types according to the distance between mandibular canal and root of mandibular third molar. And they were classified into 4 types according to the proximity of radiographic feature. The images obtained through cone beam computed tomography based on the classification above were classified into 4 types according to the location between the mandibular canal and the root and were analyzed. And they were classified into buccal, inferior, lingual, and between roots, according to the location between mandibular canal and root. The data were statistically analyzed and estimated by χ²-test. Results : 1. There was no statistical significance according to 3 types (type l, type ll, type lll) through CBCT. 2. The results of 4 types (type A, type B, type C, type D) through CBCT were as high prevalence of CBCT 1 in type A, CBCT 2 in type B, CBCT 3 in type C, and CBCT1 in type D and those of which showed statistical significance (P value=0.03). 3. The results according to location between mandibular canal and root through CBCT recorded each 49, 25, 17, 9 as buccal, inferior, lingual, between roots. Conclusion : When estimating the mandibular canal and the roots through the panoramic radiography, it could be difficult to drive the views of which this estimation was considerable. Thus it is required to have an accurate diagnostic approaching through CBCT that could estimate the location between mandibular canal and roots.

        매복 과잉치 발거시의 전후방적 위치선정

        Surgical removal of impacted mesiodens can be performed easily when exact position of mesiodens is identified. This case report is argued about methodological approach of exact antero-posterior postioning of mesiodens using conventional cross-sectional occlusal film and periapical film. The author concludes, 1. Among various methods of positioning mesiodens, exact position of mesiodens can be determined with occlusal film and periapical film. 2. On operation, exact antero-posterior position of mesiodens can be determined with comparing occlusal images of adjacent teeth and anatomic structure to real ones. 3. It is important that exact removal course of mesiodens has to be determined in addition to exact determination of one's position, and that it has to be determined in regard to position, morphological basis, direction of impacted pattern of mesiodens and adjacent anatomic structure. 4. In 2 cases presented, both are mesiodens of inverted conical type, and impacted direction are class Ⅰ and Ⅲ respectively according to classification author suggested, and surgery can be performed with ease by different approach directions.

      • 산업장의 소음환경에 관한 연구

        This study investigated the noise level and distrbution of sound pressure level over audible frequency range of noise produced at various work sites. The results of the study were as follows 1. Of the total 84 work sites, 50 work sites (59.5%) produced noise exceeding threshold limit value (≥90㏈(A))set by the Ministry of Labor. 2. The frequence analysis of noise produced at the 14 work sites revealed that 7 work sites (50%) had the maximum sound pressure level at high-frequencies greater than 2㎑. 3. By the results of a question paper, 87% of the workers response there is too much noise, 48.6% of them response they appears a masking effect in work sites. 4. The noise induced hearing loss increased in numbers with duration of working.

      • 철도교통소음의 수평·수직적 전달 및 감쇠 특성

        This study has been conducted to achieve the following objectives: First, in order to understand the horizontal propagation and attenuation characteristics for the railroad traffic noise, we selected actively developed areas within 100 meters away from the road to measure the level of traffic noise near a road. To measure the noise near a railroad, we selected areas within 100 meters away from the railroad and then selected Saemaul-ho and Mugoongwha-ho as the subjects for our experiment, In this way, we analyzed the horizontal propagation and attenuation characteristics for the traffic noise occurring in diversified areas. Second, in order to understand the vertical propagation and attenuation characteristics for the railroad traffic noise, we measured and analyzed the distributional characteristics of vertical sound pressure levels on each floor of multi-storied apartment buildings according to changes of traffic load and types, and the existence or nonexistence of soundproof walls. For the case of the railroad traffic noise, we also selected Samaul-ho and Mugoongwha-ho as the subjects for our experiment, and we measured and analyzed the different noise levels on each floor of multi-storied apartment buildings from the soundproof wall. The results of Horizontal propagation and attenuation characteristics for the railroad traffic noise are as follows: In cases of the flat land, cutting land, and bridge area, as distance increases, the sound pressure level steadily decreases. The cutting land has an especially high distance decrease compared to the other areas, and the sound pressure level for the bridge area is higher than that of the flat land with a measurement of 9.7~17.5㏈(A). Vertical propagation and attenuation characteristics for the railroad traffic noise are as follows: The amount of sound pressure level decrease is 13.9~15.4㏈(A) for Samaul-ho and 10.9~11.5㏈(A) for Mugoongwha-ho when measuring the vertical sound pressure levels at heights lower than 4.5m, which indicates a fairly large decrease. At 6m, the amount of decrease is 7.3㏈(A) for Samaul-ho and 5.0㏈(A) for Mugoongwha-ho, which indicates a small decrease.

      • 活性炭을 Media로한 生物學的 流動層의 合成廢水 處理에 關한 硏究

        This paper was performed for characteristics of BOD removal, DO uptake and effluent water of SS by the BFB filled with activated carbon. 1) According to the experimental results, hydraulic retention time was 42 minutes, 3.42㎏-BOD/㎥·day of BOD volume loading rate, almost 85percent of organic removal characteristic, almost 40 percent upper of DO uptake rate, below 15㎎/ℓ of SS concentration rate of effluent water. 2) If media concentration was more than 257 ㎏/㎥, 30 percent of reactor, normal treatment rate was not anticipated. 3) As recirculation velocity was 0.57 ㎝/sec, the best optimum organic removal rate was 88.6 percent. 4) In the view of DO uptake, media concentration was 171㎏/㎥ and uptake rate was 56.4 percent in recirculation velocity 0.42 ㎝/sec. 5) The effluent SS concentration was below 15 ㎎/ℓ. 6) As characteristic of organic removal and DO uptake, the optimum treatment rates were recirculation velocity of 0.42 ∼ 0.66 ㎝/sec and media concentration of 222 ∼ 257 ㎏/㎥.

      • Electron Cyclotron Resonance O_2 Plasma에서 증착한 규소 산화 박막의 특성

        규소 산화막을 ECR-CVD(electron cyclotron resonance-chemical vapor deposition) 증착방법으로 5인치 기판위에 상온에서 증착하고, 증착공정조건인 증착율, 기판온도, 마이크로파의 세기변화 및 플라즈마 혼합기체의 비에 따른 규소 산화막의 특성을 조사하였다. 또한 산화막의 구조적인 특성을 비교하기 위해 FTIR을 이용하여 ECR-CVD 증착한 산화막, RPE-CVD(remote plasma enhanced-CVD) 증착한 산화막 및 열 산화막의 stretching frequency를 측정하였다. 측정된 결과 ECR-CVD로 증착된 산화막이 구조적인 면에서 열 산화막과 거의 같음을 보였다. ECR-CVD로 증착된 산화막의 전기적인 특성을 전류-전압 및 축전-전압 측정에의하여 분석하였다. 축전된 산화막의 전기적인 특성은 산화막의 전하 밀도는 1×10 exp (11)/㎠이였고, 평균 절연 파괴 전압은 약 6 MV/㎝이다. We have grown thin films of SiO_2 at room temperature by using an ECR-CVD system and have investigated the changes in the properties of the deposited films with changes in the processing conditions such as the deposition rate, the substrate temperature, the microwave power and the plasma gas mixing ratio. We also measured the stretching frequency of three kinds of oxides, and ECR-CVD-grown oxide, a PECVD-grown oxide, and a thermally grown oxide, using FTIR analysis to compare their structural properties. The result shows that the structural properties of the ECR-grown oxide are similar to those of the thermally grown oxide. Additionally, the electrical properties of the ECR-grown oxide were investigated by using current-voltage and capacitance-voltage measurements. These electrical results indicate that the oxide charge density and the average breakdown voltage are 1×10 exp (11) ㎝^-2 and 6 MV/㎝, respectively.

      • 천마의 항 불안 효과

        천마(Gastrodia elata Blume)의 근경을 말린 것은 한방에서 오래전부터 여러 형태의 간질발작 치료 목적으로 이용되어지고 있었으나 어떤 활성물질에 의해 또 어떤 작용 기전을 통해 약리작용을 나타내는지를 충분하게 설명하지 못하고 있다. 최근 항경련 작용기전 연구 결과 천마추출물의 GABA성 신경전달계에 대한 조절작용과 관련이 있을 것이라는 연구 결과가 보고되었으며, 소량으로도 뇌억제 및 진정작용이 있다는 문헌을 참고하여 볼 때 천마의 항불안 작용 가능성이 시사되었다. 이에 본 연구를 통하여 천마를 사용하여 실험동물에서 항불안 작용을 검색하고 그 작용기전의 일부를 밝히고자 항불안작용 기전에 중요한 benzodiazepine 수용체와의 상호작용을 관찰하였다. 실험 결과, 천마 추출물의 경구 장기투여는 생쥐의 elevated plus maze 검사에서 개방 통로에로의 진입 및 개방통로에서의 체류시간을 증가시킴으로써 항불안 효과를 나타내었다. 천마의 에탄올 추출물은 benzodiazepine수용체 길항제인 [³H] Ro15-1788결합을 억제하였으며, 천마 추출물은 [³H] Ro15-1788의 수용체 결합에 대한 최대 결합력(Bmax)은 변화시키지 않고, 친화력(affinity)을 감소시킴으로써 상경적인 결합 양상을 나타내었다. 또 천마의 에탄올 추출물은 benzodiazepine 수용체의 효현제인 flunitrazepam의 수용체 결합반응을 억제시켰는데, 이러한 억제는 GABA 존재하에서 항진되는 것을 관찰하였다. 이상의 결과로 미루어보아 천마의 에탄올추출물 내에는 항불안작용을 나타내는 성분이 함유되어 있을 가능성을 예상케한다. Gastrodia elata Blume is a medicinal plant which has been used as anticonvulsant in oriental medicine, and has been used as sedatives. A survey of the relevant literature has indicated that the putative anxiolytic activity of G.elata Bl. has not been scientifically investigated. Therefore, the present study was designed to assess anxiolytic property and interaction with benzodiazepine receptor of G. elata BI. The putative anxiolytic activity of ethanol extract of G. elata BI. was performed in mice using an elevated plus maze paradigm. Chronic oral administration of G. elata BI. showed anxiolytic action in mice. It was suggested that regulation of GABAergic neurotarnsmission may be important in the action of G. elata BI. The interaction of G. elata BI. with benzodiazepine receptor was investigated using rat cortices. Ethanol extract of G. elata inhibited the binding of [³H] Ro15-1788, a selective benzodiazepine receptor antagonist to benzodiazepine receptor. The inhibition of [³H] Ro15-1788 binding by G. elata BI. appeared to be competitive. Further, GABA significantly enhanced the potency of this extract in inhibiting [³H] flunitrazepam, a selective benzodiazepine receptor agonist, binding to benzodiazepine receptor. From these findings, it can be concluded that substance or substances with neurochemical properties characteristic of a benzodiazepine receptor agonist may contribute to the anxiolytic property of G. elata BI.
