        Character Formulae for Queer Lie Superalgebras and Canonical Bases of Types A/C

        <P>For the BGG category of -modules of half-integer weights, a Kazhdan-Lusztig conjecture A la Brundan is formulated in terms of categorical canonical basis of the nth tensor power of the natural representation of the quantum group of type C. For the BGG category of -modules of congruent non-integral weights, a Kazhdan-Lusztig conjecture is formulated in terms of canonical basis of a mixed tensor of the natural representation and its dual of the quantum group of type A. We also establish a character formula for the finite-dimensional irreducible -modules of half-integer weights in terms of type C canonical basis of the corresponding q-wedge space.</P>

        Low-dose diethylhexyl phthalate exposure does not impair the expressive patterns of epigenetics-related genes and DNA methylation of breast cancer-related genes in mouse mammary glands

        Backgrounds: Di-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), as an endocrine-disrupting chemical (EDC), is widely used in plasticizer and other productions. Ubiquitous human exposure to DEHP has been proposed to be a potential risk to public health. Developmental exposure to DEHP could alter epigenetic programming and result in adult-onset disease. Methods: In this study, we investigated whether DEHP exposure to pregnant mice affected epigenetic changes as a result of increase in breast cancer incidence. Results: Our results showed that the expression of total 143 epigenetics-related genes in mammary gland cells, have no significantly altered after short time and low-dose treated with DEHP from 0.5 days post-coitum (dpc) to 3.5 dpc of pregnant mice. DNA methylation status of some neoplastic development genes, such as EGFr, Esr1, Pgr, Fos and Rassf5 also had no obvious change. Conclusion: These finding showed no impact of DEHP on the expressive patterns of epigenetics-related genes and DNA methylation of breast cancer-related genes in pregnant mouse mammary gland cells.

      • Irreducible characters of Kac–Moody Lie superalgebras

        <P>Generalizing the super duality formalism for finite-dimensional Lie superalgebras of type ABCD, we establish an equivalence between parabolic Bernstein-Gelfand-Gelfand (BGG) categories of a Kac-Moody Lie superalgebra and a Kac-Moody Lie algebra. The characters for a large family of irreducible highest weight modules over a symmetrizable Kac-Moody Lie superalgebra are then given in terms of Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials for the first time. We formulate a notion of integrable modules over a symmetrizable Kac-Moody Lie superalgebra via super duality, and show that these integrable modules form a semisimple tensor subcategory, whose Littlewood-Richardson tensor product multiplicities coincide with those in the Kac-Moody Lie algebra setting.</P>

        논문 : 중국 대도시의 압축적 공간구조 특성이 도시경제발전에 미치는 영향력

        도시의 저밀도·외연적 확산 개발에 따른 문제점과 그로 인한 교통 에너지 소비 및 기후변화에 대한 우려가 높아지면서 압축도시 개발에 대한 논의가 활발해지고 있다. 중국의 경우 지난 30여년 동안 놀라운 경제성장과함께 급격한 도시화가 진행되었다. 본 연구는 중국 33개 대도시를 대상으로 2003~2012년 동안 압축적 공간구조요소들이 도시경제발전에 미치는 영향력을 분석하는데 목적을 두었다. 종사자 1인당 지역내총생산을 종속변수로 하여 압축적 공간구조 요소들을 설명변수로 하는 패널모형을 구축하여 추정하였다. 그 결과 압축적 공간구조 특징을 나타내는 변수들의 영향력은 모두 (+)의 부호로 나타났다. 즉, 인구밀도가 높을수록, 집중도가 높을수록, 토지이용의 혼합도가 높을수록, 종사자 1인당 지역내총생산을 증가시키는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 대중교통 접근성과 다양한 대중교통수단이 제공될수록, 보행도로면적 비율이 높을수록, 종사자 1인당 지역내총생산이 증가되는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구 결과를 통해 서구 도시들과는 달리 이미 고밀화된 중국 대도시의 경우 압축적 공간구조 구축을 통해 도시경제발전을 유도할 수 있다는 정책적 시사점을 도출하였다. 그러나 해당 도시의 적정 인구밀도 수준을 추정하여 도시경제의 생산성을 극대화하면서도 부정적 영향력을 미치지 않을 수 있는 정책을 펼쳐나가야 한다. The concept of the compact city has been widely recognized due to the energy consumption and air pollution from the urban sprawl. During the past three decades, China has experienced rapid economic growth with rapid urbanization. This paper aims to analyze the effects of the compact urban spatial structure on the urban economic development based on 33 large metropolitan areas in China. The panel model was set by a balanced panel data for 33 metropolitan areas for the period of 2003~2012. Gross regional domestic product per employee was used as the dependent variable and relevant factors of urban spatial structure were selected as the explanatory variables. The important findings can be summarized as follows. First, the density of population, degree of concentration and mixed land use variables are significantly positive effects on urban economic development. This is mainly because high population density contributes to the effect of the agglomeration economy and thus raises economic development. Second, as public transportation service is more accessible and increased, the higher labour productivity of the metropolitan area will be. The results of this empirical study provide policy implications to strengthen the urban economic development in China. It is necessary for the government to analyze the optimum population density to ensure the urban labor productivity to the highest level, since the population density exceeds the optimum level of density, it will in turn exert negative influence on the urban economy.

      • Zearalenone exposure affects epigenetic modifications of mouse eggs

        <P>Zearalenone (ZEA) is a mycotoxin produced by various <I>Fusarium</I> fungi, which has been shown to cause several cases of mycotoxicosis in farm animals and humans. However, there is no evidence regarding the effect of ZEA on mouse egg developmental competence. In this study, we found that the activation rate of maturated oocytes was affected in mice by ZEA treatment, indicating that ZEA affects egg developmental competence. And we explored possible mechanisms of low mouse maturated oocyte developmental competence after ZEA treatment from an epigenetic modification perspective. The fluorescence intensity analysis showed that 5-methyl cytosine level increased after ZEA treatment, indicating that the general DNA methylation level increased in the treated eggs. Moreover, histone methylations were also altered: H3K4me2 as well as H3K9me3 and H4K20me1, me2, me3 levels decreased in eggs that were cultured in high-dose ZEA medium. Thus, our results indicated that ZEA decreased egg developmental competence by affecting the epigenetic modifications.</P>

        Apoptosis induced in vivo by new type gosling viral enteritis virus

        In this study, apoptosis was induced by new type gosling viral enteritis virus (NGVEV) in experimentally infected goslings is reported in detail for the first time. After 3-day-old goslings were orally inoculated with a NGVEV-CN strain suspension, the time course of NGVEV effects on apoptotic morphological changes of the internal tissues was evaluated. These changes were observed by histological analysis with light microscopy and ultrastructural analysis with transmission electron microscopy. DNA fragmentation was assessed with a terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP nick end-labeling (TUNEL) assay and DNA ladder analysis. A series of characteristic apoptotic morphological changes including chromatin condensation and margination, cytoplasmic shrinkage, plasma membrane blebbing, and formation of apoptotic bodies were noted. Apoptosis was readily observed in the lymphoid and gastrointestinal organs, and sporadically occurred in other organs after 3 days post-infection (PI). The presence and quantity of TUNEL-positive cells increased with infection time until 9 days PI. DNA extracted from the NGVEV-infected gosling cells displayed characteristic 180~200 bp ladders. Apoptotic cells were ubiquitously distributed, especially among lymphocytes, macrophages, monocytes, and epithelial and intestinal cells. Necrosis was subsequently detected during the late NGVEV-infection phase, which was characterized by cell swelling, plasma membrane collapse, and rapidly lysis. Our results suggested that apoptosis may play an important role in the pathogenesis of NGVE disease.

      • Histopathological Evidence for the Existence of Primary Liver Progenitor Cell Cancer: Insight from Cancer Stem Cell Pathobiology

        Aims: Primary liver progenitor cell cancer is a rare disease entity without definite evidence and characterization. Current nomenclature of primary liver cancer with prominent progenitor features is not comprehensive. This study was aimed to investigate the existence of this kind of primary liver cancer and characterize it immunohistopathologically based on the emerging understanding of cancer stem cell pathobiology. Methods: Surgical specimens from primary liver cancer which posed diagnostic difficulty fitting within current WHO classification of combined hepatocellular-cholangiocellular carcinoma with stem-cell features according to the growth morphology and its suggested immunohistochemical features, were stained with antibodies against well-defined markers of progenitor cells, stemness, and differentiation toward hepatocytes or cholangiocytes. Comparative interpretation of images was processed considering the histological morphology and characteristic markers. Results: The primary liver cancer consisted of CD24+ cancer progenitor cells and CD90+ mesenchymal stromal cells, which were intimately mixed. CD24+ cancer cells demonstrated bi-directional trends of differentiation: bile ductule transformation (cytokeratin 19+, epithelial cell adhesion molecule [EpCAM]+, neural cell adhesion molecule [NCAM]+, CD133+, and delta-like 1 homolog [DLK1]+); and trabecular or nested cell clusters toward hepatic lineage (hepatocyte nuclear factor-4 alpha [HNF-4α]+, Hep Par1+ and negative for CK19, EpCAM, CD133, and DLK1). Moderate lymphocyte (mostly CD4+ and CD8+ T cells) infiltrated in the CD90+ cancer- associated stroma. Conclusions: We provided the corroboration that liver progenitor cells can form primary liver cancer, not just presented as few side population of cancer stem cells. Its existence might pose significance for future stem cell therapeutic intervention targeting liver diseases, albeit the disease is rare.
