        A new dimeric neolignan from Magnolia grandiflora L. seeds

        Bioassay-guided fractionation of the MeOHextract of Magnolia grandiflora seeds resulted in the isolationof a new dimeric neolignan, named bishonokiol A(1), as well as two known neolignans magnolol (2) andhonokiol (3). The structures of the compounds weredetermined on the basis of data obtained using NMR andMS. Bishonokiol A (1) showed potent anti-proliferativeactivities in four human cancer cell lines, with IC50 valuesranging from 5.1 to 7.5 lM. Additionally, bishonokiol A(1) induced apoptosis, as well as down-regulated theexpression of the anti-apoptotic protein Bcl-2 and caspase-3 cleavage in HepG2 cell line.

        Encapsulation, Pharmacokinetics and Tissue Distribution of Interferon α-2b Liposomes after Intramuscular Injection to Rats

        The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of liposome-encapsulation and liposome-size on the in vivo pharmacokinetics of interferon α-2b (IFNα-2b) following i.m. administration to rats, and whether there was any liver-targeting of these liposomes. Since liposomes of different sizes can be obtained by homogenization, the effect of homogenization on the IFNα-2b activity was also investigated. The pharmacokinetics of IFNα-2b solution (12.8 μg/kg) and IFNα-2b prepared in liposomes, including three mean sizes of 172 nm (12.2 μg/kg), 113 nm (44.2, 11.0, and 2.8 μg/kg, respectively), and 82 nm (13.1 μg/kg), were studied after a single i.m. dose to rats. Compared to a solution of IFNα-2b. administration of liposomal IFNα-2b resulted in a significantly prolonged t_max, the apparent elimination half life (t_(1/2β)) was 2.3 times longer, both AUC_(0-∞) and MRT_(0-∞) were also clearly enhanced and greater accumulation was obtained in the liver (p < 0.05). The AUC_(0-∞) increased proportionally to the administered dose of IFNα-2b liposomes. Moreover, the size of liposomes ranging from 82 nm to 172 nm had no significant difference on the pharmacokinetic behavior in vivo (p > 0.05). In sum, compared with the free form, IFNα-2b encapsulated in liposomes can alter strikingly the pharmacokinetics properties following i.m. injection and if a liposomal size ranging from 82 nm to 172 nm was used, consistent pharmacokinetic behaviors of IFNα-2b was exhibited. The liposomal formulation apparently targeted the liver, offering a potential advantage for hepatitis B treatment.

        Model Parameters Online Identifi cation and SOC Joint Estimation for Lithium-Ion Battery Based on a Composite Algorithm

        The purpose of this paper is to discuss how to solve the problem of on-line identifi cation of model parameters of Li-ion battery and on-line estimation of SOC. Based on the matlab/simulink platform, a fi rst-order RC equivalent circuit model of the battery is built, and a joint estimation algorithm of the model parameters and SOC of the lithium ion battery is designed based on the dynamic model, which is compared with the single adaptive Kalman fi lter algorithm (AEKF). The simulation results show that the proposed joint estimation algorithm can make eff ective online estimation and update of the battery model parameters and SOC. The average estimation error of SOC is less than 2.8%, the estimation accuracy is higher than that of adaptive Kalman fi lter, and its robustness level is relatively high.

        Black rice anthocyanidins prevent retinal photochemical damage via involvement of the AP-1/NF-κB/Caspase-1 pathway in Sprague-Dawley Rats

        The effects of black rice anthocyanidins (BRACs) on retinal damage induced by photochemical stress are not well known. In the present study, Sprague-Dawley rats were fed AIN-93M for 1 week, after which 80 rats were randomly divided into two groups and treated with (n = 40) or without BRACs (n =40) for 15 days, respectively. After treatment, both groups were exposed to fluorescent light (3,000 ± 200 lux; 25oC), and the protective effect of dietary BRACs were evaluated afterwards. Our results showed that dietary BRACs effectively prevented retinal photochemical damage and inhibited the retinal cells apoptosis induced by fluorescent light (p < 0.05). Moreover, dietary BRACs inhibited expression of AP-1 (c-fos/c-jun subunits), up-regulated NF-κB (p65) expression and phosphorylation of IκB-α, and decreased Caspase-1 expression (p < 0.05). These results suggest that BRACs improve retinal damage produced by photochemical stress in rats via AP-1/NF-κB/Caspase-1apoptotic mechanisms.

      • Inhibition of the NEDD8 Conjugation Pathway by shRNA to UBA3, the Subunit of the NEDD8-Activating Enzyme, Suppresses the Growth of Melanoma Cells

        Neural precursor cell-expressed developmentally down-regulated 8 (NEDD8), a ubiquitin-like protein, mainly functions through covalent ligation to cullin proteins. Conjugation of NEDD8 with cullins can promote ubiquitination, which plays a critical role in the degradation of many proteins. UBA3 is the subunit of NEDD8-activating enzyme which is one of the keys for NEDD8 linkage to cullin proteins. Previous research showed NEDD8 conjugation to be up-regulated in highly proliferative cell lines. In the present study, up-regulated NEDD8 conjugation was observed in melanoma cell lines by Western blot analysis. After down-regulation with a RNAi to UBA3, proliferation of M14 was suppressed in vitro and in vivo. In conclusion, up-regulated NEDD8 conjugation may be involved in the development of melanoma. Interference in this pathway might offera promising method for melanoma therapy.

        Methanol synthesis from CO2 hydrogenation over Cu/g-Al2O3 catalysts modified by ZnO, ZrO2 and MgO

        Cu/g-Al2O3 catalysts for methanol synthesis from CO2 are prepared and modified by metal oxides viaimpregnation in the present work. Results indicate that promoters modification leads to the formation ofsmall Cu0 particles with a high dispersion, improves catalytic performance of Cu-based catalysts inmethanol synthesis. Moreover, the activation temperature is another important factor on affecting theCu0 dispersion and particle size. The investigation on CO2 hydrogenation shows that methanol is mainlyfrom hydrogenation of activated CO2 with active hydrogen on Cu0 particles, which is inhibited by highreaction temperature due to improvement on reverse water-gas shift reaction and methanation

        Comparison of organic acids supplementation on the growth performance, intestinal characteristics and morphology, and cecal microflora in broilers fed corn-soybean meal diet

        Objective: The aim of this study was to compare the effects of three kinds of organic acid (OA) products on the growth performance, intestinal characteristics and morphology, and cecal microflora in broilers fed a corn-soybean meal meal diet. Methods: A total of 420 one-day-old male Cobb 500 broilers with an average initial body weight of 49.11±1.02 g were used in this 42-day experiment. Birds were randomly allotted to one of five treatments (7 replicates with 12 birds per replicate). Treatments consisted of negative control (NC), basal diet; positive control (PC), basal diet+100 mg/kg of Aviramycin; OA1, basal diet+500 mg/kg of OA product 1; OA2, basal diet+1,000 mg/kg of OA product 2; and OA3, basal diet+1,200 mg/kg of OA product 3. Results: The results indicated that OA product addition had no effect on growth performance parameters, such as body weight gain, feed intake, and feed conversion ratio, from days 1 to 14, 15 to 28, and 0 to 42, or on the pH values of the intestine, intestinal weight, or intestinal weight to body weight ratio. The intestinal morphology in terms of villus height and crypt depth were affected by dietary supplementation of OA products, respectively. Furthermore, dietary addition of OAs had positive influences on the maintenance of the cecal microflora based on the results of 16S rRNA analysis. Conclusion: Dietary inclusion of three kinds of OA products all benefit broilers, but the mode of action may be different. This study provides a basis for the application of OA products used in the poultry industry.

        China Consensus Document on Allergy Diagnostics

        The prevalence of allergic diseases has increased dramatically in recent years in China, affecting the quality of life in 40% of the population. The identification of allergens is the key to the diagnosis of allergic diseases. Presently, several methods of allergy diagnostics are available in China, but they have not been standardized. Additionally, cross-sensitization and co-sensitization make allergy diagnostics even more complicated. Based on 4 aspects of allergic disease (mechanism, diagnosis procedures, allergen detection in vivo and in vitro as well as the distribution map of the most important airborne allergens in China) and by referring to the consensus of the European Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, the World Allergy Organization, and the important literature on allergy diagnostics in China in recent years, we drafted this consensus of allergy diagnostics with Chinese characteristics. It aims to standardize the diagnostic methods of allergens and provides a reference for health care givers. The current document was prepared by a panel of experts from the main stream of professional allergy associations in China.

      • Transmission Network Expansion Planning Based on Dependent-chance Bi-level Programming Method

        Transmission Network Expansion Planning method considers return rate based on Dependent-chance bi-level programming method is presented in the paper. The upper level objective of the model is maximum realization rate of return rate being bigger than one realization level. The lower level programs have two sub-problems, one is social profit maximization in normal operation, the other is load shedding being lower than one realization rate in N-1 operation environment. Monte-Carlo method is adopted to mimic uncertain parameters. A hybrid algorithm combining Genetic algorithm and prime-dual interior point method is adopted to solve the proposed model. 18-bus system has been tested in the paper, the results prove proposed method is valid.

        Applicability Analysis of Microseismic Technology in Tunnel Water Inrush Monitoring

        Water inrush disaster is one of the most serious geological disasters in tunnel construction. There are still some problems in the existing researches, such as the activity information of surrounding rock is difficult to obtain, the mechanism of water inrush disaster is unclear, the correlation between water inrush disaster and microseismic (MS) information is missing, which have caused the water inrush disaster to be passively controlled. Combining with the practical experience of tunnel engineering, the application problems of MS technology in tunnel engineering is summarized, which provides ideas for monitoring of surrounding rock activity. The formation mechanism of water inrush disaster caused by rock mass fracturing and filling medium instability has been revealed. The MS characteristics of the water inrush channel in different water inrush disasters have also been revealed. The MS response characteristics of water inrush and rockburst disasters are compared, which provides guidance for the improvement of MS monitoring technology and the analysis of effective MS information. The compression failure test of limestone under saturated and natural conditions is carried out. The results show that the presence of water weakens the ability of rock to store energy. The acoustic emission (AE) phenomenon is weaker in the process of saturated limestone failure, which increases the difficulty of AE monitoring. The number of AE events of natural limestone and saturated limestone shows a slow increase to a sudden increase in the process stress loading, which can be regarded as an important precursor of rock failure.
